How do I flag outgoing mail as Confidential

We use Exchange here at work. and apparently Voltage as our secure email solution. The way I understand it, any email tagged as Confidential is automatically run through Voltage and thus secured. My question is, when using CFMAIL, is there a way to indicate a message is Confidential? Using CF8 BTW...

CF 10 Install Issue

I am attempting to install CF10 on a Win2008 r2 64 bit box with IIS7.

The installation starts, gets to a point, and then complains that ASP.Net, ISAPI Extensions and ISAPI filter must be in place.

I went back to IIS and enabled those features, rebooted the machine (at least twice), confirmed that the boxes for those features are in fact checked, yet the installer still insists that they are not there. The installation hangs at the same spot.

What am I missing?

Need time tracker using phone call-in

I find myself in need of a tool that will allow our Home Health Aides to call in to a dedicated phone number, enter their employee number and a password, and record that information in a database.

The database would need to record the phone number that they called from, the employee number, and the date/time.

Ideally we would like a phone tree to allow for more options: Press 1 if you are arriving. Press 2 if you are leaving, etc. etc.

Anything out there that I can customize to my needs?

I am stuck on CF8, but realize it might not be a project that can be / should be solved with a CF solution.

Is a gateway what I need?

I am using CF8 in a windows environment.

I have a magentic stripe reader on the network at IP xxx.xx.xxx.174:1070

When a badge is scanned, I want that information to automatically log in my SQL database. I think a Socket Gateway is what I want, so it will listen to the address in question, and allow me to capture and store the information upon a scan, but I cant find much information on the net as to how to go about this. I have gone through the exanples but apparently I am not smart enough to "get it". Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Strange CF/SQL Behavior

Yesterday I started getting "login failed" error messages when CF attempts to run a query against my SQL Server database. The site was basically useless since everything runs off a query. What follows is an email to a fellow employee looking for some help.

IIS, SQL2005, all Windows environment. Same configuration has been working for years.

Soon after we had everything running again, I started getting the "Login Failed" error message all over again. I took a look at the log files and was seeing that the login would be successful, and then, in the same nanosecond, would fail. So there would be two entries for every attempt.

Looking at the SQL database, I saw that it had grown to almost exactly 1 GB. I went to use the "shrink database" command, but it was grayed out. I took the DB offline, and a few minutes later I was able to shrink it. Still no luck with accessing it though.

I went to my tracking tables within the database, and deleted a few years of records. I also emptied out a couple of test tables that I had created. That brought the database down to around 650 mb. Everything has been running fine since then.

Can you think of any mystery surrounding a cutoff point of 1 GB?

Can CF "listen" to an IP Address /Port?

I have a magnetic stripe reader that sits on the network at IP address xx.xx.xx.x

When a badge is scanned, I want that information to go straight to a database as if entered on a keyboard.

I have this working fine with a keyboard wedge style scanner, but need to capture the scan from an IP based scanner instead. At issue is the fact that when using the keyboard wedge scanner, the end user is already on my CF page. What I want to do is have CF MONITOR an IP address.

How can I tell CF to receive input from my network IP address?

CFSELECT from a List?

I find it hard to believe that I have never done this, but I need a CFSELECT that always includes the current year and the previous two years. So, right this minute it should have 2010, 2009, 2008.

What is the best way to do this dynamically?

CF8, SQL Server, Windows Server

When I print the contents of a text field that contains a '<' or a '>'. the output truncates. The part that I find odd is as follows:

"Administer Meds if pain level <2 on the pain scale" truncates after the <.

"Administer Meds if pain level < 2 on the pain scale" prints the entire content, note the SPACE after the <.

Since the input fields are free text, I can't guarantee that tne end users will ALWAYS put a space after these characters.

My output code is as simple as follows: <td>#GetOIG.Goals#</td>

I presume this has to do with the <> characters traditionally being part of the opening and closing of the td tags, but this is just a guess. I inherited this project, and this issue is just being brought to my attention.

View/Manipulate the Comments property of a file?

When you view a directory in windows expolorer, or view the properties of a file, one of the properties is called "Comments". If you right click on a file, you can modify the value for this property.

Is there a way that I can manipulate this property using CFFILE?

I am still on CF8 if that makes a difference.

Asking for network password

Since I am running an all-windows environment, people dont need to login to use my site. I assess permissions based on the nework username. Works great and has been adequate for years.

Now I have a project where we want to allow the end user to enter text into a text box, and commit that information to a database. The problem is that we would like to require the end user to enter their network password at the time of submission to validate that this really is the correct end user, and not just somebody jumping on the computer while another user is logged on.

While I am skeptical as to the validity of this "security measure", it is still up to me to implement it.

I tried using CFLDAP, but that does not give me access to the password, due to the permissions that CF logs in under. The political battle it would take to make that happen is not appealing to me.

Is there a way that I can insert a cfinput field with a type of "password" and validate it somehow? Barring that, can I create my submission page on a page that is NOT set up for authentication, thus immediately prompting for a network password?

CFTREE to create directory navigation

I have done quite a bit of searching, but not finding what I want.

I am looking for a CFTREE solution that will display the directories, subdirectories and files under a given directory on my file server. I swear I have seen canned scripts out there where I just plug in the initial directory, but I am not finding anything.

Can anyone help??

Dictating default name in CFPDFFORM

I am using CF8 BTW.

I have a complicated PDF form where I prepopulate some of the data in the form, and expect the end user to populate the remainder. Works great so far.

In this case, my CFM page is "MakeNew485.cfm". When the user attempts to save the file, Windows suggests "MakeNew485.pdf".

How can I dictate the name of the new, saved file?

Spry not working after move from CF7 to CF8

I copied my entire website directory structure over to the new CF8 server. Just about everything works except my Spry stuff. I seem to remember having to make a change in a configuration file in order to make Spry work the first time around, but I cant find any reference to having to do so.

Instead of showing the spry menu bar on the web page, I am just getting the text.

What am I missing?

Query of Queries Runtime Error

I just moved an application from CF 7 to CF8. Just about everything is working dandy, except for one error so far that has me flummoxed.

Query of Queries runtime error

Unsupported SQL type java.sql.Types.UNKNOWN

My query is as follows:

FROM GetAll

For clarification, I run a fairly complex query to retrieve a list of ICD9 codes for a given person in GetAll. Then I extract a DISTINCT list of those codes using the query above. And yes, there are reasons why I cant do this in a single query....

The above query works perfectly in CF7, and has been working for years. In my Google search, I have found a few instances where people are asking questions about the error, but I have yet to find a solution.

Any clues?

Open A Specified Tabbed Panel

I have an application that makes use of tabbed panels, with forms on each tab. When a user fills out information on a given tab, the form submits, and the user is automatically returned to the initial form. The problem is that they always return to tab 0, as opposed to the form they started from. I am sure there is a way to dictate which tab has focus. What is the protocol?

On our intranet we schedule transportation trips where up to 20 different clients are picked up and brought back to our daycenter.

The staff wants to be able to order the clients, and then have a map print out the route to take between addresses. We already maintain a list of the addresses, so that is covered.

Is there any particular API out there for any of the map providers that will take a list of addresses and create a corresponding route?

Would I need to dictate the order of the pickups, or is the API smart enough to determine the most efficient pickup order based on location?

Values of field returned with ColumnList

Odd that I have not encountered this before, but here it goes..

I used a select all statement with a maxrows attribute of 1 to return a single record where TransactionID = xxxx. Simple enough..

I used query.ColumnList to return a list of the columns in returned. Works great.

Now I want to display the values associated with the fields. Essentially, I want the dynamic value of a dynamic value.

I want to loop over the table, showing the fieldname, the current value of that field, and an input box allowing the user to change the value. I can do this manually because I know the field names and have access to the backend table, but I want this form to continue working whenever I change the underlying database table for whatever reason. I figured doing it dynamically was the way to go.

I am sure there is an elegent solution that is eluding me.

Timing of next version of CF

We are currently running 7.02. I finally have a pressing need for version 8 features, but want to try to buy version 8 within the customary time period that version 9 might be free. Historically if you buy a version within three months or six months, Adobe allows you to upgrade to the newest version gratis.

Of course, this upgrade privilege might not even be offered this time around, who knows.

I believe that version 9 is in beta or about to enter beta status, but have not confirmed that. Any hints or rumors that would allow me to make a more educated decision would be appreciated.

Case Insensitve Ordering

My CFQUERY is working fine, and has for years. I am ordering my lastname. Just recently a client joined the list with a last name that starts with a lower case letter. As many of you know, lowercase appears at the end in a database sort. This really screws up my reports.

I tried using ORDER BY lower(lastName) and ORDER BY UCASE(lastName) but neither of those solutions work. They throw errors. What am I missing here? What is the best way to deal with this?

Flummoxed by a query

This is a new one for me. I have been querying the same database for years. I have hundreds of queries working on this very database on a daily basis without issues. Today a new request came in to access a field that I have not needed to retrieve before.

Mcaidrecda (Medicaid Recertification Date) is a field in the BasicInfo table, which is part of a FoxPro database designed by a vendor.

The following query completes just fine:

SELECT *
FROM BasicInfo
WHERE IDNo = '5183'

And yes, I know that the use of asterisks in a query is not good practice. I am trying to troubleshoot here...

I do a CFDUMP of the query, and the field I am most interested in, namely BasicInfo.MCAIDRECDA, shows up as expected in the CFDUMP, along with all of the other fields in the table.

HOWEVER,

When I rewrite the query as follows:

SELECT IDNo, Mcaidrecda
FROM BasicInfo
WHERE IDNo = '5183'

I get an error saying that Column 'MCAIDRECDA' is not found. It happens when I remove the WHERE clause, too.

When I open the database table (a FoxPro table), the Mcaidrecda field is very clearly there, and this is supported by the first test (CFDUMP) shown above. Why can't it see the field when the query is written the second way??? I checked and triple checked my spelling of the field names, etc, and all is well.

The reason this is important is because I want to set a WHERE clause based on the Mcaidrecda field, but it stops cold and says the field does not exist, even though I have proven time and again that it is most certainly there.

SOMEBODY tell me I am missing the obvious here....

Calendar Application Integration With Outlook

This project is for an environment similar to a nursing home. I have a calendar application that I built that allows me to schedule the participants with each of our four or five providers. Pretty simple stuff.

My desire is to allow the staff that schedules the appointments (sometimes well in advance) too see what the provider's vacation or out of office times are. So, ideally, I would like my calendar application to be able to READ the free/busy times for the providers from their outlook/exchange calendars, since this is where their personal calendars are maintained.

Any clues or new evolutions on how CF interfaces with Outlook calendars on the Exchange server??? I have seen and used the standard Outlook activex control. but that only shows the calendar of the currently logged in user. It does not show or allow you to choose someone elses calendar.

Connecting to a FoxPro Database

I have been connecting to a FoxPro database for years now with the ODBC Connector. It works OK, but would like to know if there is a JDBC connector available these days. My searches have uncovered ODBC-JDBC Bridges, but I am not sure if that buys me anything.

What is the current standard for connecting CF 7.02 to a FoxPro data directory?

Return only values up to the first space

I have two related tables. tblVisits, and tblProcedure. Each Visit has one or more procedures, linked on VisitIDNo.

What is the syntax to return ALL the visits, and only the FIRST procedure (CPT4)?

Script to Collect Computer Info

I need to start collecting information such as RAM, Operating System, etc on the computers in my organization. What I would like to do is send an email to all users, asking them to merely click a button in my email. That button would run a CF page that collects as much information as possible and logs the info into a database.

We use IIS and authenticate against the domain, so I know this will work through CF for such information as login name, IP address (we use static IPs), operating system, etc, so I am looking for solutions that will tell me more. Can I get the RAM? Resolution (not that it has much value). How about (dare I ask) programs installed?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Turning a List Into A Query

New Error Message

I got this error message today. We have been running this page for well over a year with no problems:

Error Executing Database Query. The system is out of memory. Use server side cursors for large result sets:null. Result set size:2,806,384. JVM total memory size:776,273,920.

Can/Should I tweak the JVM settings perhaps? What is a server side cursor?

Can I schedule an email for tomorrow?

Without going into a laborious explanation, I have a process where "data changes" are requested via a CFFORM, and then distributed via email to the medical records department. Currently these requests are sent via CFMAIL immediately upon the completetion of the request form by other staff members.

Now, due to reasons beyond our control, the medical records department cannot print the new face sheet until the following day. I can add a statement in the email asking them not to print the face sheet until (today + 1 day), but that becomes a record keeping hassle on the part of the medical records department.

I have thought about queing the information and using CFSCHEDULE to make this happen, but would like to avoid the hassle if there is a feature that I am overlooking. I know in Outlook you can compose an email and schedule it to be sent at a later date and time.

Can I send all of today's data change requests out to medical records at 2:00 AM tomorrow???

Anything new with CF Faxing?

I know there is a lot of dated information in the archives. I am wondering if there is a relatively new, cheap, easy way for me to send a fax from my application.

I have a list of four different places that the fax will go. I want the end user to fill out a simple form online and have the application email the information to the fax number chosen.

I dont want to subscribe to a service if I can avoid it. The perils of working for a non-profit company, I guess.

Can I prepopulate a Word document or PDF?

This application is for a home health agency. There is an extensive form that needs to be filled out periodically called a CMS-485. There are tons of fields and lots of formatting to the document. I currently have the document in Word format.

We maintain participant information in a database. I would like to prepopulate SOME of the fields in the Word document with information from my database. Namely things like name and address. date of birth, SSN, etc. Basic demographics that are readilly available in my database.

I can generate the form from my website in any format, really. PDF would be fine. Word would be fine. My objective is to go to a client's information screen in my application (already done) and click a button to generate a blank CMS-485 that is prepopulated with the basic demographic inorimation.

I know that I can create an HTML or report builder version of the report, but that would be absolutely daunting given the complexity of this form. Since it is already in Word format, can I leverage the work that has already been done and make this easier on myself?

My 10 years of experience with CF is strictly with intranet sites, so search engine optimization has not exactly been one of my priorities. I am now developing an external site for my organization, and am curious about how I have been doing things.

For my intranet site, I have been placing my site's navigation bar in the application.cfm page of my site. This, of course, allows it to appear at the top of each and every one of my pages. For my purposes, it works fine.

I had thought about using this approach for the external site, and putting my keywords and META tags in that same application.cfm page. This ensures that they are seen on every page, easy to maintain in one place, etc. etc.

The problem with this approach (other than the rhetoric about keeping application logic and presentation logic separate, etc. etc) is that from what I understand, search engines despise sites that have the SAME tags on every page of their site. If this is true, I would not be doing myself any favors by using Application.cfm for my META tags.

Is there a consensus about the benefits or detriments of every page showing the same META tags?

I, personally, am here to provide answers to CF questions when I am confident that I can help, and to read about other CF problems and their posted suggestions or solutions.

But when I read YOUR posts, I can't figure out why they are even posted. What objective of yours makes the time it takes to type it worth your while?

Data Entry Form / Insert

I am sure this is a matter of not seeing the forest through the trees, so assstance would be appreciated!

I need a data entry form to enter physician encounter information.

So... an encounter will have a client, a location, and a date. This will go into tblEncounter, which has an autonumber indexNum

Linking to tblEncounter is a diagnosis table. Each Encounter can have any number of diagnosis. The diagnosis table contains ProviderIDNumber, DiagnosisCode, and IndexNum (linking back to tblEncounter).

Also linking to tblEncounter is a procedure table. Each Encounter can have any number of procedures. The procedure table contains ProviderIDNumber, ProcedureCode, and IndexNum (linking back to tblEncounter).

So, so far we have parent table "tblEncounters", and two one-to-many child tables "tblDiagnosis" and "tblProcedure"

I want a form that allows for data entry of the tblEncounter info, and then I want to allow any number of diagnosis and procedures to be entered that link back to the tblEncounter table.

How can I gracefully do this with speed and agility for the data entry operator? What I have in mind is...

Enter into tblEncounter info into main screen. This brings up the diagnosis screen.

Enter diagnosis code 1
Do you want to enter another code?
YES button refreshes current form
NO button goes to procedure form

Enter procedure code 1
Do you want to enter another code?
YES button refreshes current form
NO button goes to submision form

When you arrive at the submission form, commit all of the above data to the database.

-OR- am I better off commiting to the database after EACH diagnosis code and EACH procedure code???

BTW, CF 7.02 and SQL Server 2005

Flash Forms Not Appearing

I have an intranet web site on a server that I manage. I have flash forms up and running on a daily basis.

I just recently added another website to the same box, with a new IP Address. I copied the Flash forms over to the new site, but none of them work.

The error I get is "lc_id is undefined". on line 175.

There is no lc_id in any of my databases, or any of my cfm pages. There never has been. I suspect this is an internal file used by the flash form. Heck, none of the pages in question even have a line 175!

Is there something that I need to turn on in IIS to get Flash to work on the new site? Permission changes perhaps?

Inner Join Across Two Data Sources?

I have a fox pro database table called 'Identity'. It contains a key field called 'ID'. DSN is 'PCData'.

I have a SQL Server database called 'Superbill'. It contains a key field called 'ClientNum'. DSN is 'SuperbillSQL'.

Both SQL Server and the fox pro database live on the same server.

Can I write a single query using an inner join statement in ColdFusion that will link the two tables together where PCData.Identity.ID equals SuperbillSQL.Superbill.ClientNum?

Do I have to run two separate querys and then run a QofQ???

Simple Query Help Needed

I must not be in the right mode today, because this is giving me a hard time...

I have a SQL Server database with 250,000 records. Each record represents a medical visit.

Each record has 25 fields that contain patient diagnosis. A visit may show one diagnosis, or it may show as many as 25. Any specific diagnosis (250.00 for example) may appear in a field called Code1, or a field called Code2.... Code25.

There are a total of about 500 patients that make up the 250,000 visits.

What I need is a report that shows each DISTINCT diagnosis, and a listing (and count) of people that have been assigned that diagnosis.

My thought is to first query the table to arrive at the unique list of diagnosis codes. Then, in a nested loop, query the database to see who has been assigned that code, and how many times.

This strikes me as an incredibly database intensive query, however.

What is teh correct way to do this?

Requred Fields throwing error

Using 7.1 on Win2k Server. HTML forms. NOT Flash forms.

I have a form with a number of requred fields. Messages are assigned to these fields.

If I hit the submit button while INTENTIONALLY leaving requred fields blank, I get a dialog box informing me of the problems with the form, just as expected.

But when I click OK on the dialog box, the form submits anyway, resulting in an error message generated by the action page.

I dont recall having this specific problem before, so I am a bit flummoxed.
