I've had a user contact me saying that the pictures he creates save as JPG and because they are JPG they lose transparency. I looked at the code I'm using and it's CameraRoll.addBitmapData(bitmapData). I could find no other options or parameters. He also said it is highly compressed JPG as well. If it's not supported (although I thought it was in an earlier version??) is there a work around!?

Text field over Flash instance stops working after already focused

I was attempting to file a bug on this but the site is not loading for me. You can reproduce this using the following steps.

1. Create an HTML page with a Flash instance on it.

2. In the HTML add an HTML text input positioned over the Flash instance and run it in the browser.

3. Type into the text input.

4. Click into the same text input at any position other than the current position.

5. Try to type more text in the text input.

Expected results:

The text input continues to work.

Actual results:

The text input no longer accepts input and the browser makes a sound each time you attempt to type.

I am using Firefox 28 and OSX 10.9.2. This same example works in Safari. Also, wmode needs to be set to opaque for the text input to appear over the Flash instance.

I would like to show ads in my app. How are you doing it? I've seen an AdMob ANE by Milkman Games mentioned but I'm on a budget right now. Even if I did use that I don't know what to do next. Basically, how are you doing it?

PS I've been looking at https://github.com/StickSports/MoPub-ANE/ and have the ANE installed but it seems to be a mediator to other Ad Networks and does not serve any ads itself.

Can't download Scout

I can't download Adobe Scout. When I try I get this window. I click OK and a window starts to open and then crashes.

If I try again I get this message. Whichever option I choose the program that opens crashes right away.

Is is possible to paste BitmapData from the clipboard when using the browser? When I look at the reference to the general clipboard it says the following properties "alive", "canReadContents" and "canWriteContents" are true. The formats array shows one entry for air:bitmap but when I try to access the data it returns null.

Is there a Scout API to get sub-millisecond time like getTimer()? Here's the problem I'm trying to solve, http://forums.adobe.com/message/5181744.

Let me make the case that it's becoming more important as machines increase in processing time measure how long something takes is going to be harder to measure using millisecond precision in getTimer. This makes it difficult to find bottle necks without iterating through a 100000 instances or more. When you add in things like I'm trying to measure (validation, rendering and reset time) it just becomes a nightmare.

How to show frames dropped between a selected range?

I'm guessing there isn't this view but is there a way to show the number of frames dropped between a selected range of frames? Or show how much time was spent in overhead between a range?

For example, if I'm showing an animation for 1 second (1000ms) I would like to see if everything was on schedule. If I see 5 frames out of 500 dropped or 900 of 1000 in a process it makes more sense than calculating them up by hand especially if it is over a long range of frames.

So it might look like this when a range is selected:

Total Frames Selected: 600

Actual Played: 300

Dropped: 300

Total Time Selected: 10,000ms

Actual Time: 5,000ms

Overhead: 5,000ms

Can you explain what's different about 3.7 captive runtime?

I'm creating an ItemRenderer in Flex 4.6 and I want to know how to measure total time to create, view and render an item renderer and how long it takes to view and render that item renderer when it's being reused.

I just watched the video, Performance Tips and Tricks for Flex and Flash Development and it describes the creation time, validation time and render time and also the reset time. This is described at 36:43 and 40:25.

I'm looking for a way to get numbers in milliseconds for total item renderer render time and reset time (what is being done in the video).

Is there a way to mark events in ActionScript for Scout?

Is there a way to send a message to Scout in my swf to mark a point where I can later find easily in Scout? For example, there are 4 or 5 different events I'm profiling but they do not begin until much later. My timeline that runs across the top of Scout is very long.

What would be ideal is to mark places in my code like this:

import flash.performance.Scout;

Scout.start("Welcome screen");

Then in Scout I can do a search for "Welcome screen" and it would take me to that frame.

There are also ranges that I'd like to profile like this:

I could go into Scout and do a search for this key word and then select that range.

How do I add up the total time in the views

In the following view it reports that I spent 189 ms in Rendering dirty regions. When I expand out the activity it doesn't add up to that value. I'm counting 82?

Also, is it possible to see / find what objects are connect to the FTE text and what images are being decompressed? Maybe I can find it in another view? My Display List Rendering is showing some 1000 objects. : P

Is it possible to create a display list tree view in Scout? There is sortof one that is in DisplayList Rendering panel sometimes nested below "Rendering dirty regions". I was thinking it would start at the Stage object and you could step into the display list.

- Comment List - shows a list / data grid of comments in the article

- Comments status - a list of options about the comment including "Completed", "Acknowledged", "Not Applicable", "Deferred" or custom reply

When I read a comment made by someone else I'd like to be able to check that comment off as if it were a to do list item. I'd also like to see a list of all the comments and their status in a datagrid. Thanks! Buzzword rocks!

How to play an effect in reverse

In one function I am calling the play method on an effect and in another I am calling the reverse method. The play method works but the reverse method does not. It appears that the propertyChangesArray is used to store the previous effect start values but that property is null when calling reverse. How do I do this?

I have seen this error all over the web but no solutions. I have tried everything I know how to get this working. Is there a bug with AIR and SQLite?

UPDATE: I FOUND THE CAUSE!

I was getting a reference to the database file correctly. The file size was correct and everything was verified. The problem was that I had local variable named "file" and a class variable named "file". Since my connection code was setup in another scope the file I thought was set was NOT set. I wish I would have received an error that the file didn't exist instead of creating a new empty one!!!

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S phone in the summer and found out that I can't do AIR development on it without Android 2.2. I also found out that the AIR runtime and Flash Player 10.1 are not able to be installed without Android 2.2. There has been no update from Samsung and since December Android 2.3 and now Android 3.0 is coming out.

So millions of users aren't able to run AIR created Android apps or run Flash Player in their browser. Is there anything Adobe can do to help push this update out? It's ridiculous that an update to 2.2 has been available to European markets for the last few months running on the exact same hardware.

FYI US Galaxy S phones have been upgraded automatically to the latest update when they've been connected to their network and continue to work flawlessly when switching back to a US network.

Flash Builder not copying out some images

Flash Builder is not copying some images to the output debug folder. I've tried Clean and that erases the output folder and then copies the files out again but there are still some images missing.

Would the image file name be in conflict with something? One that is not working is "assets/images/close_button.png". Another is "[something?]/video-play-button.swf" or something close to that.

Is there a way to expose properties or styles from a skin part to the host component?

For example, I have this skin that contains a border around an image. I would like to be able to let the user set the cornerRadius.

States - Transition from named state to named state - Flex 4

I have an item render in a Spark List component that has 2 states. In the default state the item renderer is 150 px high. In the expanded state the item renderer is 350 px high.

When I go from the default state to the expanded state the transition is not shown the first time. After I have expanded the row then the transition shows from both to and from normal to expanded states.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Do I need to setup another transition?

Here is my top ten list of requested features for Flash Catalyst:

10. Rearranging of pages / states in the pages / states panel (also resizing to smaller icons)

9. Menu bar option to Insert Custom / Generic Component. There isn't a way to create a custom component without first adding something to stage and then converting that.

8. Edit component on double click in layers panel

7. Replace existing artwork with library component - for example, when you create a button or text input then you should be able to use that skin in all of the text input instances rather than creating new ones every time you choose convert artwork to component

6. Artboard sized to content - no hardcoded size of the project

5. Import of Flex Components / movieclps

4. Flex Capacitor library integration / support - supports deep linking and navigation through your flash catalyst or flex project without coding - all the work is done

3. Integration and coexistence in native Flex project - no fxpl or zip - flat file structure

2. Container support - VGroup HGroup Skinnable Container - set layout property

1. Component Constraints support - top left bottom right horizontal center vertical center baseline width height 100%
