Projects first created in Windows are now not publishing correctly from a Mac

I've been using the Windows version of Captivate for months without issues, putting together a large number of HTML5 courses, non-responsive. Lots of custom javascript via the 'Execute JavaScript' action for smartshapes, etc.

I just purchased a new Macbook Pro and then purchased a subscription license for Captivate. Now my cptx files that were working fine when opened and published from Windows Cp are very not publishing correctly - the javascript does not execute, etc. Everything *appears* fine within Captivate but I get issues upon preview/publish.

Thank goodness I have the 30 days to cancel the subscription and get a refund...but before I do that - has anyone else tried switching to a Mac and run into problems with Captivate projects?

Both machines have 8.01 installed. The only thing I can think of is, after installing 8.0 via the subscription download, I then did the 'Check for updates' and it went and downloaded and installed the 8.01 update. When I did this on Windows I followed the directions on a blog post somewhere (sorry - I forget the name!) that stressed deleting some directories on the machine first before running the update. I assumed the subscription files would be fixed/patched....

Install on two different computers - license?

Is that correct today?

Also, and this is the most important question to me: if I'm using Windows at work, can I use the same license for the Mac version on a personal Macbook Pro?

I'm switching over to a Macbook Pro Retina 15" as my primary computer tomorrow, and I have a spare Windows XP license that I don't use for anything else. And since Captivate's licensing is different from Creative Clouds in that the same license cannot be used for both Windows AND Mac, I'd prefer to use the Windows XP license I already have.

Javascript not working in swf output

I am working on a project where the quiz requirements are quite unique and not all that logical, but it's what the client requires...

I have a lot of courses ("lessons") for this project. I'm using a fully custom quiz for each lesson. Because of the sheer number of courses, and the unique requirements, I am trying to leverage javascript for this project as much as possible.

I must publish both HTML5 and Flash versions. While not contractually required to publish a swf version, I am pretty certain that having both formats available will avoid having to deal with all of the browser issues down the road (already seeing issues in IE 11 on the client's PC).

So for each quiz question slide I have smartshapes which are acting as clickable text captions, like this:

Question text....

A. Answer choice a

B. Answer choice b

C. Answer choice c

D. Answer choice d

Each of the above answer choices is a smartshape button that is set to 'Execute Javascript' on click. In the javascript panel for each I have the following:

CORRECT_ANSWER = 'q1b';

ANSWER_CHOICE = (event.target) ? event.target.id : event.srcElement.id;

evaluate_answer(ANSWER_CHOICE, CORRECT_ANSWER);

In an external 'quiz.js' file I have the evaluate_answer function, which looks like this:

*********** quiz.js *************

var evaluate_answer = function (answerChoice, correctAnswer) {

 var answerChoice = window.cpAPIInterface.getVariableValue("ANSWER_CHOICE");

 var correctAnswer = window.cpAPIInterface.getVariableValue("CORRECT_ANSWER");

 if (answerChoice == correctAnswer) {

 cp.show('fb_q1_correct');

 cp.show('fb_q1_correct_next');

 cp.show('q1_answer_disabler');

 } else {

 cp.show('fb_q1_incorrect');

 cp.show('fb_q1_incorrect_next');

 cp.show('fb_q1_incorrect_remediate');

 cp.show('q1_answer_disabler');

 }

}

*********** END quiz.js *************

The above works great in HTML5 output but not in the swf version. It looks like the swf version can't handle/pass the event.target, but that's just a guess.

Any ideas?

Pause Project Until User Clicks on Master Slide

I recall this working before but it's been a while so perhaps not?

I have a Main Master Slide (i.e., the top-level Master Slide that all other Master Slides inherity from) with custom Back and Next SmartShape buttons. Each has the following properties:

Pause Project Until User Clicks is checked

When clicked, go to Previous or Next Slide

I then have a series of Master Slides that inherit these buttons. The only thing that differs is the background for some, and some content objects.

I assumed that the 'Pause Until User Clicks' property would carry over to all of the slides in which the buttons appear, but what is happening is that visual slides pause but the slide audio continues from slide to slide throughout until the end. In other words, the project slide audio continues but the project slide visuals do not.

Anyone encounter this?

In the meantime I did the usual clunky 'just add a click box' to each slide, but that is not ideal as they have to be manually timed for each slide. Annoying.

Custom Navigation Suggestions

I ran into bugs with prior versions of Captivate while trying to implement custom navigation buttons (i.e., next slide, previous slide, etc.). The issues now appear to be fixed with Cp7, so I'm going to give it another go. The one place where Articulate shines is in their player navigation, both in it's stock experience but also in customizability. : (

I'm interested to hear from those of you that have done similar. Specifically, what buttons do you make available? Aside from go to next/previous slide buttons, I'm thinking just a 'Menu' button to toggle the TOC's visibility. Mute/unmute is something I prefer to leave to the system hardware/software to control. A pause/play button's usefulness is debatable.

Any tips/ideas you have are appreciated!

First Event/Webinar Yesterday After Upgrade - Numerous Bugs

Fortunately no showstoppers, but it was concerning...

The below issues were experienced yesterday during a live event webinar. Fortunately they impacted only those with Host permissions. Fortunately the attendees were not impacted. For this event we had 5 different hosts, all separately logged in from different machines, from 3 different physical locations (Florida, PA, Texas). This was in a Seminar room. I assume they are specific to the latest upgrade, because we never experienced these problems before.

Issues experienced by Hosts:

1. When first logging in, the Share pod with a PPTX file shared was not loading for the hosts. The rest of the Connect room/pods loaded and displayed fine, but the PPTX Share pod was in a continual 'preload' state with the preloader animation (spinning circle/lines) showing. This happened with two different Share pods with PPTX files loaded into them prior to the event so that they would be ready once the event started. Workaround: stop the share and restart it after the hosts had already logged in.

2. Poll pods: when I select the Pod Options > "Hide" option to hide the poll from the stage, it doesn't go away. It stays. The only way to get rid of them was to drag it to the Presenter Only Area. A minute later I found out that, even though it was off of the stage for me and Attendees, it was still on the stage for the other Hosts, and the only way to get rid of them was to manually drag each poll to the POA on each and every host's machine.

Note: this issue did not impact the first poll used during the event, but it did the second and third polls, which were both introduced to the stage at the same time. Perhaps two polls on the stage at the same time caused the issue?

3. Q&A pod: Export to RTF does not export all of the questions! I would need to go back to look at exactly what questions it did export, but of the 12 questions asked during the event, only 4 of them were in the "Export to RTF" file. Fortunately, the "Email Q&A" transcript works fine - all 12 questions were in the text emailed.

We're on a hosted instance of Connect.
