cfexchangecalendar question

I am writing a process that loads an office 365 exchange calendar from an external database. I have the functionality working. Howver, it is not efficient. I am looping through several hundred records similar to:

</cfloop>

This is working, however it is slow and sometimes i get: "The request has exceeded the allowable time limit" I do not want to up the time limit. I would like, however, to make this process faster. I am almost 100% positive the bottleneck is the fact that I am creating the event hundreds of times, rather than once. The query called is very fast and only run once. Is it possible to pass multiple events to the cfexchangecalendar create tag rather than one event at a time? Or, does anyone have any suggestions for making this process run quicker?

Where are the specifications for the structure we pass to the cfexchangecalendar via the event variable?

Change ctrl shift / from html comment to cfml comment

Is there a way to make a quick <!--- comment (cfml) rather than a <!-- comment (html) by using shortcuts like ctrl+shift+/ ?

I am used to adding comments around blocks and lines using keyboard shortcuts or clicking a button on dreamweaver. Any way to manage these shortcuts?

psql datasource

I have set up a psql datasource(odbc) in cf10. Everything works fine, but some tables require a password. In order to provide the password, for each databse connection, I need to make the following SQL statement: SET OWNER='myPassword';

I do not want that statement before every query. I could use cfinclude and have the password in one file. But, I would rather have it as part of the datasource settings. Is there anyway to do this? Can I set up the above command to run in the datasource settings?

Dynamic Document Builder

A client is asking me to upload files in word, pdf, or whatever format. These documents are legal documents. The upload is no problem, however, he also wants me to create a screen for him to edit uploaded documents. The majority of the documents will remain the same, but the parties (Company Names) will change. He wants to be able to put the two party names in, and then print/download the document for the parties to then sign.

I have not had to do this before and I cannot think of an easy way to do this. I am thinking I will have to convert the word, pdf, or whatever file to html, then manually create the text fields for every document. Basically, I will make every documene he uploads an html form. I will then create a pdf document for the user to print or email. The main issue is the fact that every html form will have to be created manually and this can get expensive for him and tedious for me.

Does anyone here know of a better way to do this? If not, how should I go about converting the doc, pdf, etc to html in coldfusion?

I understand that cfinvoke is trying to look for an 'Application' directory, correct? The Projects.cfc is located within a directory names 'sys'. Would it be a better idea to use:

I am thinking about designing a coldfusion application that will allow my clients to sms their customers promos, news, etc. I need to receive text message from the customers to add them to the text club, then at a pre-determined date/time, I send out a bulk sms to all the people that have signed up. I noticed getting a short code is very expensive. I would love to use a short code, but I cant manage the costs. I also know there are companies that specialize in this, but I want to integrate into an already existing coldfusion app. Does anyone here have any experience with bulk sms and coldfusion. I have researched twilio a little, but are there any other companies that I could partner with in order to get this done?

Retrieve user from IIS using ISA (TMG)

I am writing a coldfusion application that is only accessible through a specific windows server. The users log into the server using citrix. The windows server is using a proxy server called ISA or TMG (Threat Management Gateway), which includes all of the web authentication. This allows the ability to pass Active Directory credentials from TMG to the IIS web server for authentication. This user credentials system is adequate for our client and we are not wanting to have another credential system within our application. In order to utilize this authentication system, we only need to retrieve the username. This system already ensures the user is logged in. Would I try and retrieve the username from IIS? Or, is there some way to retrieve the windows username? The apps I write typically have their own authentication system, so I am new to this and looking fro some guidance.

If anyone has some suggestions on how to proceed in retriving the username I would appreciate the help!

Single Login across multiple sites

I am anticipating being asked to createa single login system for my coldfusion site and other sites(not coldfusion) on different domains. The other sites will not be tasked with this, but hopefully there will be some cooperation with the other vendors(there has to be). How would I even begin to research this? I was thinking about somehow passing the login info from the coldfusion site to the new site and logging in in the background.

I have an coldfusion application in production. I am getting more and more requests for certain functions to be available in a mobile friendly format. I do not need the entire site to be mobile friendly, just certain parts. I have researched and determined how to detect the devices and how to redirect mobile users. 2 questions:

1. What is the typical architecture for what I am needing. For example....currently I have:

webroot/mycfapp

Should I do this?:

webroot/mycfapp/mycfmobileapp Just add a subfolder? I am wanting to keep using the original authentication and other processes from mycfapp, but just have a section seperated that includes the mobile features.

What is a light weight accepted way to do this? I typically develop desktop apps so this is new for me.

2. Where should I store the variable that tells the application which format(desktop or mobile)? Should I keep that flag or variable in a session variable or cookie?

It seems the prevailing wisdom to keep the apps seperate and I am all for that. I just would like to design it with some thought before I begin coding anything.

I am wanting to document my web application with online docs. I have written some docs in pdf and posted them, but I would prefer to have an online version where I can update them easier. It will be text, table of contents, screenshots, etc. What is an easy lightweight to accomplish this?

cflayout tab width issue

I am trying to fix a width issue I have on my site with the tabbed pages. I am trying to place a tabbed page within a table similar to this:

If you try this code, the tabbed area generated will be very wide and the user will have to scroll to see it. I would like the cflayout portion to fit within the table width of 70%. I know cflayout width does not accept a percentage value. I want to control the width of the users pages and I do that using percentages on the rest of my site, but to ge this to look decent I have to specify pixels in the cflayout width field. Any ideas to mae this cflayout fit within the table?

nesting cfform behavior....

I have the following code and I have tested it in chrome and IE:

All the google buttons should submit and go to google.com....The yahoo button should go to yahoo.com. I have code similar to this working elsewhere in my application, but this one has me stumped. The first buton in the loop(when x is 1), is surrounded by the form1 tags and goest to yahoo.com, and the remaining buttons are surrounded by form2 tags and go to google.com like they are supposed to. The final yahoo button is not surounded by a form tag at all and does nothing. I know there is something I am missing....I thought you couldnt nest from tags, but I do it elsewhere and it works fine. I feel like it is something easy I am missing. HELP!

Sharing application scope

This question has been asked in the past but not answered completely, so here is my issue:

I am currently working on a site that has two separate sections(one public section and another admin section), but need to share the same Application variables.

Basic file structure....

Root

-- Admin -- Application.cfc -- index.cfm

-- Application.cfc -- index.cfm

The public side will contain the application start and end code and the the admin Application.cfc will include the public application.cfc(<cfinclude template="../Application.cfc" />) and the login logic. The reason I am trying to do this is that my application scope needs to be accessible by both sides. My understanding is that the CF server will treat this all as one application since they have the same name.

During my testing, I set application.cfcroot variable in the public application.cfc. That variable is not accessible in the admin subfolder. My understanding is the fact that by including the original(public) application.cfc, the application.cfcroot variable will be accessible in subfolders(in this case: admin). Th error I get is that the variable is undefined. I test this by trying to dump the application right after I include it in my application.cfc located in the admin folder. For example:

I am trying to use cfmessage box to confirm prior to deleting a record. I have a delete button that I am diplaying the fessage box using onclick. The problem I am having is the cfmessagebox pop's up, but the record gets deleted anyway and the cfmessagebox goes away. Basically, the form is getting submitted regardless. I am thinking I am doing something wrong here, but can someone point me in the right direction. Below is come code snippets:

I am pretty sure I should change the button type to "button" rather than submit. Then, use calbackhandler to submit the form. However, once the form is submitted, I check for which button is pressed using:

I need to submit the form using javascript, then make sure, after the form is submitted, to make sure the above if statement is true.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Or, any better ways to do this?

cfajaxproxy bind with dynamic form

I have a form with many rows built in a cfloop. I am trying to do a simple client side calculation if the user changes a value in a text box. I can ge the calculation to work, but it places the result in the last row of the form rather than the row the user changed. In other words, they change the values in a text box on row 3 for example. It calculates the right value(using row 3 values) and places the result in the last row(for example row 54).

Does anyone have any insight how to make sure the results of the above calculation go to the proper row? I assume it has something to do with the bind expression above and the fact that the costPerOz_#currentrow# is not in the bind expression.

Page Authentication

I have an application where I am setting user roles using cfloginuser. I restrict some pages depending on roles. I am just using a if statement at the top of the page similar to this:

     PAGE CONTENT

          <cflocation url="unathorized.cfm" addtoken="no">
</cfif>

This is working fine, but I am now wanting to expand the roles. I want to display or reject each page depending on the roles. However, I am not wanting to add an if statement to every page. Can anyone point me to a better method? I know I am missing something very easy, but I would like an easy non-obtrusive way to do this. Thanks for the suggestions.

where to store location variable

I have an intranet application that will be used by many users. Each user has one or many locations. The data is dispayed by location, so the user selects which location they are working with from a drop down in the header. Once they select their location, the can begin viewing and updating the data. I store the location in a session variable and use it in all my queries to select only that particular location, or to only insert or update that location. Is the session variable the right thing to use here? I am concerned because the user can leave the computer while filling out a form and come back in an hour or so, and the session variable will have timed out. I cannot default it to anything and they will get an error. Any deas of a better way to store the location?
