RoboHelp's air installers no longer install with AIR 4.0 update?

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

After updating to AIR 4.0.0.1390, our RH air help installers no longer work. This includes .air help from 2 - 3 years ago, which have installed fine all these years, all the way up to a recent .air file we created for an upcoming release. This problem occurs on both Mac and Win, with the US version of AIR and the Chinese version of AIR, and it's a critical problem for us. Now when you double-click the .air file to install the help, you get this message:

"Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."

Well, the application author is us. But this isn't a problem that we can fix, because it happened with the AIR 4.0 update.

Version 3.8 of AIR works fine. Version 3.9 broke our context-sensitive help on the Mac (bug 3648177, filed in Oct, not that it did us any good). Now version 4.0 has broken our air help completely. We are transitioning to HTML5 help but not quickly enough, it seems.

Can anyone confirm that the same thing happens?

Thank you,

Alexandra

Phone layout not displaying search icon? Responsive HTML RH11

Hello,

I'm creating Responsive HTML5 output in RH11. I've done considerable editing of the default theme, changing colors and removing the index page and the links to it (we don't include an index). At some point, the phone layout stopped displaying the "magnifying glass" icon next to the TOC/Glossary icons. If you hover over the spot, the hovering icon does appear. I have tried everything I can think about to fix this problem, but can't figure it out. The regular icon is definitely present in the folder, along with the hover version. The css correctly names the icon. I have looked at the MasterThemeSchema.xml and when I fooled around with that, I got two magnifying glass icons to appear, but not one. I have created another Theme1 layout, where the search icon displays correctly, and compared the main.css and MasterThemeSchema.xml line by line. I've compared the language for the TOC and Glossary icons, which appear correctly, to the search icon, and everything looks fine. I've even started all over and modified the Theme-1 layout from scratch. Can anyone give me other ideas to check to get the icon to appear correctly in the phone layout?

Thanks,

Alexandra

How to stop popup window using phone layout for display - Responsive HTML5, RH11

Hello,

I'm using the new Responsive HTML5 output in RH11. For some of my hyperlinks, I want to use a pop-up to display the linked topic. In the output, the pop-ups work, but they are automatically displayed using the phone layout, with the associated navigation buttons at the bottom, the help title, and so on. I don't want this - I just want a plain popup window. So, I tried to add a Screen Profile, set to 400 x 500 pixels exactly (thinking that this is bigger than a phone, but smaller than a tablet). I also added a corresponding Screen Layout. In the popup properties, I set the popup size to be 400 x 500 pixels. I guess there is something else I need to do to get this to work... but I don't know what that is. (I tried creating a new Window on the Project Set-up tab, and I tried creating a different master page. These things didn't work.)

Can anyone tell me if what I'm trying to do with these popups is just a bad idea and it won't work well with certain browsers?

Thanks!
Alexandra

Training available for Multiscreen output?

Hello,

For someone with a smattering of css knowledge and basic HTML abilities, the Screen Layout Editor in RH10, is "rather daunting" (to quote a presenter in one of Adobe's own seminars). The default screen layouts, and any free or paid screen layouts I have seen, do not meet our needs. Editing them is difficult. I saw a great class about just this topic, but unfortunately it was in the UK and I am in the US.

Can anyone point me to online or class training about this topic? (We do not need basic beginning RH training.)

Thanks!

Alexandra Duffy

Lead Technical Writer

Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc.
