How can I ensure I am collecting Canadian dollars?

Hi Jane,

If you choose Canadian dallors in "Language and Formatting", it means the prices your entered for the purchase fields are in CA dallors. However, when your customer checks out stuff from your form, PayPal will always collect the equal value of money using the paying customer's local currency. That is, if a US customer checks out 100 CA dollars of stuff from your form, PayPal will automatically convert 100 CA dollars to the equal value of US dollars using the current conversion rate and collect the US dollars from the customer. Therefore, you will receive a payment with US dallors and you need to decide to keep the fund in US dollars or convert it to CA dallors in your PayPal account.

There might be an auto-conversion option in your PayPal account, but that is your own choice and not what we can control. You can call PayPal customer support for more information about currency conversion options.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks,

Eman Fu

Senior Computer Scientist

Adobe Systems Incorporated

Hi Jane,

I am sorry that the information I told you in my previous reply was not completely right. Here is the whole story:

As a merchant, you will receive the money in the currency you choose, but if the currency is not your local currency, the payment will be pending and you must decide to accept the fund with conversion or not.

From the payer’s side, the payer is presented the money to be collected in his local currency calculated with PayPal’s current conversion rate. The converted amount of money in his local currency will be deducted from his account. If he pays with a credit card, it’s up to the credit card company to convert the currency.

Thanks,

Eman Fu

Senior Computer Scientist

Adobe Systems Incorporated
