How could you use this to remove alert if you didn't want them at all? I really want to get rid of the shipping options alert that says "Shipping option selected successfully." but can't figure it out.

I need your help on the alert message of Business Catalyst ecommerce.

I need to show a message in a lightbox when a customer adds more than $100 to the cart, the message should be"You have added more than $100 to your cart! We will send you a FREE bag of coffee in your next delivery" Thanks

but if I remove a product and goes below $100 it should display another message that says "Thats's a shame.... if you spend more than $100, we will send you a FREE bag of coffee. Thanks"

The second message will only happen if he/she reaches $100 and then back to under $100.

Hi Hernan,

There are 2 things you need to do here.

You basically need to check the amount when the shopping cart is loaded and then display the message and also check the total amount in the cart in case the number of items in updated. BC uses Ajax to retrieve and refresh the cart content, so simply placing JavaScript onto a page will not work as that JavaScript will not run on the content returned by Ajax. This means that you will need to override the default BC function and parse the response for the amount, obtain the amount then do a comparison and display the appropriate message.

I have produced some code for you that will cover both cases by looking at the shopping cart summary. This will only work with {module_shoppingcartsummary,horizontal} and not {module_shoppingcartsummary,vertical}. You have to modify the code slightly to get it to work with vertical cart display.

So, this is the code that will do it on page load. Make sure you add it to the bottom of your site-wide template:

You will need a jQuery library linked to your template and also convert the alert code to lightbox code, but I assume you will know how to implement these things.

Hi mario,

I'm a pretty new to all this, kind of working my way through designing a site. How can I use the above "Online-shop.js" to target just one of the error messages, specifically the OutOfStock error. I tried ommiting the other error messages. This worked for the OutOfStock error, but gave me a NaN error on all the other messages. Thanks!

Thanks for all the postings you have placed. They have defintiely been helpful and useful to me.

Now I have a problem I cannot solve. I am having a problem with custom pop up messages on my product pages while running Internet Explorer 9 on Parallels 7 for the Mac 10.8.1. It works fine with Firefox on Parallels and Mac OSX

Right now my prices are labeled as "Sale Price." unless they are on sale where it shows both "Retail" and "Sale Price."

When adding any product to the cart in IE 9, the product description is pushed down and the retail price appears instead of my custom pop up box message that appears fine in Firefox and Safari on my Mac side. The custom pop up message should display: "1 item has been added to your Shopping Cart. Access your Cart and then checkout from the upper right corner of any webpage."

IE does add the item to the cart, but no pop up appears. The Pop up is important to me because a not as savvy Internet user may not know where to go to for the shopping cart and checkout. All of my shopping cart custom pop ups work correctly.

We did put the code <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/online-shop.js"></script> from Step 4 of the article http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/257/bc_2571.html in the template. How do I get the custom pop up to show? What am I missing here? Is it a browser issue? If so, how do I get around it? Could it be possible that we did not put the <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/online-shop.js"></script> in the right template? If so, please reiterate what exact template to put it in.

In Firefox when you click "Add to Cart" the button goes away so that one cannot order more than one item, which is what I want. In Internet Explorer, the "Add to Cart" button stays and when you click it again sometimes it says "Undefined", other times it comes up with its default ERROR message. But I'd like it to say something like "Only 1 originial of this exists. So only 1 of them may be added to your cart." Or better yet, how would I get rid of the button altogether (like Firefox) after the first click so that you can't try to add 2 products. How would I do this?

Hi again Mario,

A friend helping me with BC submitted a ticket to your staff too about my entry above. Needless to say they said they had no problems when clicking Add to Cart in IE and getting the result Pop up "1 Painting has been added to your Shopping Cart. Access your Cart and then checkout from the upper right corner of any webpage."

However, I went to 2 libraries since I don't own a PC and wanted to make sure it wasn't a Mac Parallels issue at home. I tested this pop up on IE on 2 Windows Computer and got the same result that I do on my Mac. You can click the Add to Cart button, no pop up comes up, but it adds the painting to the cart. Also, when adding it to the cart, a "Retail Price" label shows up above the button. Then when you click "Add to Cart" again, an "Undefined" message pops up.

The response my friend got from Adobe staff was incorrect. You need to test it in IE 9 (and other versions) which I have already done. I need the pop up to appear when they click "Add to Cart" as it does in Firefox and Safari. My clients need to know where to find the shopping cart because where BC puts the small text link (in the upper right hand corner) is not very obvious and clients need to know where to Checkout since mine is a business site.

My site is ready to be published and this issue is the only one holding it back. I would appreciate yours or someone else's thorough research and solution on this matter as soon as you can.

I use the online-shop.js in my site. And for all browsers this works fine. But I have one issue i just can't fix:

Only in the cart the translation don't always work, this occurs in safari and chrome. In Firefox and Opera it's working oke. Sometimes the messages are in dutch sometimes in english (and the js doesn't work then i guess). Any idea how to fix this?

You may want to use setTimeout to set a delay to loading that JS, so that it loads after all other JS. That should certainly fix it.

I'm making a Danish site in BC, and this article really helped me with some of my problems concerning translation of system strings.
But…
How do I get to the strings in the modules, for instance the word "Item(s)" in the shopping cart summary module, or the "No one loggedin" in the module_whoesloggedin? Or the “ - - Select something - - “ in a dropdown box?

..Hmmm... I translated all the strings, added the reference to all my templates, and uploaded all files, still...

If I add to cart from small product view, my allert shows up in Danish, but from large product view it's still in English ("1 item(s) added to your cart"). This is fixed by making a reference to the js file from large_product.html. But is this really how to do it? Does one have to add the reference to ALL the files in /layouts/OnlineShop to make sure all allert are presented as intended?

I had the same problems. For me the solutions lays in adding the online-shop.js to all of the templates. And use the code:

setTimeout(oshoplang,1000)

function oshoplang()

{

}

in the onlins-shop.js.

For me this translates everything on all browsers in dutch. Take a look at my site:

Thank you so much for responding

I saw the timerfunction elsewere in the thread, but I couldn't make it work... Instead, moving the reference to the bottom, so it comes after all other js calls, seams to do the trick in regard to most of the alertboxes, but not the one in the cart page, when you try to go on to payment without choosing shipping.
There is also some anoying english frases in my page. For instance if I empty the cart, the alert is Danish, the text in the cart summary is Danish, but in the page it's in English: "Your shopping cart is empty. Go back". Where does this page come from? And when I go back to the shop, shopping cart summary changes to English "Shopping cart is empty"...
I will try to take a look at Mario's tutorial.

I visited your impressing site, and spend a minor fortune on some kitchen aids
I can see you solved a problem that I haven't found the solution to yet - would you please share?

The list drop down for shipping options - how did you change the value "- - Please select - - " to Dutch?

I really hope to find solutions to all of my language issues, because BC is a great platform, but it's a bit tricky if you're non-english and uses Latin-1 Supplement characters in your site...

The cart is the biggest problem when it comes to translate english messages. I have spend hours fixing/testing things and couldn't find a solution. The only one which worked is the one where you use to show the messages in the sites body. Here's the Turtorial from Mario how to do this:

I used this one in a combination with the online-shop.js And that worked for me.

BC is a great system but has it's limitations though. For builing sites in another language then english is not very easy. Because some messages are rendered in english. It would be a very big improvement if they could make that a lot easier.

I went to your page during reading the article about alerts in pages, and I saw something, which you may already be aware of, and maybe not: When I was in the cart, which contained 3 TVs, I pressed backspace and went back to the productpage as wished, but now the cart says that it's empty. If I throw in another TV and open the cart, there are now 4 TV's. I had that same error at a time, and I think it was when I tried using the {tag_shoppingcartsummary} instead of the {module_shoppingcartsummary} ...

I looked into it and i want to thank your for your tip with the shoppingcartsummary. I have not found a solution with that one yet.

I have checked my code of the templates and pages, and i see no code or whatever which makes the translation for the login and shipping option problem. I also encountered another translation problem which is in the cart also. The message which pops up when using a wrong voucher or discount code. I have put this question also in the forums. You will have the same problem.

Today my site went live, and the translations you need too don;t work in the live site. In the testsite it is still translated in dutch but on the live site it isn't...

So if i had a solution it isn't working right.

Count me in. I'll be building in Norwegian. After having used TYPO3, which is very powerful and able, not the least in the i18n department, I am a little surprised that BC is so amateurish in this regard. Not that I am that great a coder, but I do know enough to say that there are a good few frameworks that enables all language strings in one or a few files. I would really expect Adobe to use such tools — even for nothing else but code quality.

The only way to style it is to use JavaScript to target that element and

replace the text. I'd recommend jQuery and .text() method.

Just tested this in Chrome and I'm getting the following message:

"Sorry we are expecting more stock in soon. Please call the shop on 01548 856479 for a delivery date and to reserve this item."

Anyway, put the JS link at the bottom of the template, just before </body> and see if that makes any diference in your case.

Hi Mario - thanks for the step-by-step instructions.

Is there any way to change the Alert message that reads: Please enter shipping details or choose shipping charge." I do not seem to see it on your online-shop.js file. Can it be changed? Or did I miss it?

This alert pops up right after you select a shipping option from the pulldown. My customer would like the message changed to "Please enter state and zip code then select your available shipping options." Again, thanks for all your helpful input on the forum.

Mario,

As always, you're the best! This is working like a charm, however, it's not displaying an alert for ChooseAttribute. I want to use this in small product and large product layout for the size attributes and warn folks to pick a size before they can submit "Add to cart" and "Buy now". Is this not the alert that corresponds to that value or am I using it incorrectly?

The tshirts we sell have size attributes.

Will that alert work for this page, as in when the customer clicks "Buy Now" or "Add to Cart" - will it display an alert message?

I just tested it and it does for me. Add to Cart displays "1 item(s) added

to your cart. Awesome!", which is a custom message by the look of it.

And Buy Now never pops a alert and goes straight to cart.

yes it works, but when someone goes to buy a tshirt, I want it to pop up a message when they click "buy now" or "add to cart" - "Alert: Please pick a size"

This doesn't seem to be working for me at all. I followed the instructions. Does Adobe have any plans for updating this because I need to change my clients out of stock message?

Hi Mario,

I'm just trying to do this for a site (LifeSaver Protection | LifeProof Cases) but I am having a bit of trouble. I couldn't see an answer to the other person who was having the same issue so I thought I'd ask.

This is the code I have in my .js file:

Oshoplang = {

InvalidQuantity: 'Only 1 LifeSaver Protection Policy can be purchased at a time, Please empty cart first if a different product is required',

ChooseAttribute: 'Please choose a LifeProof Case before adding to cart.'

};

The 'Please choose a LifeProof Case before adding to cart.' message comes up when you don't select an attribute and click 'buy now' (which is correct), however the other message comes up as 'undefined'.

What am I doing wrong here?
