Hey Mario,

Thanks for this. Can't seem to get it to work though. I've chucked the js file up, added the

</div>

to my 'page_content.html' file and added that '.alertMessageHolder_success' style to the modulestylesheets.css file and created that empty_cart_page.htm file with no templatea ttached but no luck, asm I missing something?

Implemeted and worked successfully, however, we found 1 issue with it.

We used your previous methods where we made all alerts display in the body content as well as online-shop.js to customise the messages, once we added this, those body alerts don't appear anymore, anything we're doing wrong?

Ok, got the answer myself, you have to use one or the other.

But how would you determine or make sure that some messages are error messages, I'll give an example:

We grouped products with different sizes: so the main 1 that has "the inventory of 0" and shows --Select-- in the drop down is the first one showing up in the large product layout, so when you click on add to cart without choosing the size, you get the error message of "either this is out of stock bla bla" so we used your custom messaging JS thing to say "Please Select a Size" - because we're hiding products out of stock anyway so we don't need the original error message.

However, when the mnessage "Please select a size" shows up, it renders inside the ".alertMessageHolder_success", how can we change that to make it show up in the error one?

Yeah I know funny, I ask and then work it out, but still have a question, maybe Mario can help me out here.

so in the online-shop.js, I wrapped the messages I wanted to style differently with a span, so that's solved.

However, unlike your firts method using the jquery with the messageBox. with this method, the message appears in the body but sticks, it doesn't go away after a little delay. Any tweak to add to the emptycart.js so the message appears and disappears after a bit?

Hi there,

I don't have the URL to your site so I can't really tell what you've done and how, but you should be able to make the message go away with something like:

$('#alertMessageHolder').fadeOut('slow');

Have a look at jQuery's .fadeOut() function for more info.

Your products are behind a secure zone, so no one can really inspect this for you. I have replicated this article in http://www.twoblokeswithapostie.com/blog/2013/02/06/there-are-many-beautiful-sites-bc-unti l-you-clear-cart/ and provided all the code in this repo https://github.com/twoblokeswithapostie/bc-javascript-functions

You should pull the code from the repo with "$git clone https://github.com/twoblokeswithapostie/bc-javascript-functions" and use that as some of the formating in this post can contain double byte characters killing your JS.

Agree. This is such a convoluted work around (though we all really appreciate Mario's help).

There seems a danger that parts of BC are becoming a series of javascript or CSS work arounds as web design and users develop expectations beyond the current system capabilities. Hopefully these will be worked out of the system in coming updates.

I agree. I just need to change the link on "Shopping Cart empty, Continue shopping".

...but I'm not even going to attempt what's described here...I will break something lol.

The new Liquid Mark-up looks like it will offer lots of customization options, that don't require these hacks. What would be nice if there was a library of sample Liquid Mark-up that demonstrates some of the more common usage.
