I like the beta version so far. It seems to integrate better in the overall design of the console. The only thing I am a bit worried about is the handling of repeating regions. At the moment my clients can rearrange repeating regions to their own needs. For some of them this feature is very important as they like to delete items and rearrange the remaining ones. I can't find anything about this in the post and the beta doesn't do it. Will this be different in a future version? Otherwise It would be a real dealbreaker ...

@Liz-Bord: I think that's due to the beta Status. Templates are not supported yet so only the Content area is opening in the Editor. With most pages the navigation is included in the page template.

Any plans to enable H1, H2, etc as choices in the ice:options for type html? Or will users have to fudge it with font sizes?

I notice that the Beta slash is now missing from the top button and take it that this was upgraded in the system upgrade on the 22nd April.

I've two customers who were using the Beta version and thought it was very good. Sadly neither of them are able to use the upgraded version. In one case the editable content is simply not coming up for alteration they just get the template!!!!! All the editable content just isn't there

The other customer simply can't navigate within the site because the meun is on the template and it's not showing

Any chance we could have the Beta version back please?

I havn’t activated the new content editor yet. So my clients still use good old fashioned incontext editing as the new beta editor is not working yet (e.g. no template support hence no navigation). Try to deactivate the new editor in Site Settings/Beta Features.

Hi Tim68,

Templates are now supported in the new Beta Editor, navigation is also supported.

The difference now is that if you haven't explicitely marked regions as editable, they won't be automatically editable in the new Beta Editor.

However, automatic editable regions are planned for the future release - stay tuned.

The Beta ribbon was indeed removed, but it is still a beta feature (you can turn it on/off in the Beta Features Admin page).

The template and menu should be showing, maybe it's a problem with that particular template/page. I'll be glad to investigate this for you, I just need the URL for that page. If you want, you can send it to me by email at ihuzum@adobe.com.

Are templates really supported? While I can define ICE on a page and get the new editor to edit the defined content it only shows the raw text of the page without any formatting from the template. Without the template this isn't a usable tool as the whole point of this editor is to be WYSIWYG and allow a client to navigate between pages.

ok, just figured out my own issue, the new content editor will not recognize a content holder if it is placed in the <head>

if i remove the content holder from the <head> in the template and replace it with the actual code the new editor looks to be working fine

i have a content holder there to define and control CSS, JS, etc. all from one place rather than needing to manage it on all templates

i believe i and many partners do this as a standard practice

is there a plan to correct this behaviour in the new editor so that it will correctly render a content holder that is in the head?

Thanks for the good work on the new editor so far. But: It seems as I can't use format codes like headlines or paragraphs in the editor window. Not to mention the use of custom styles as it was possible in the old incontext editor.

Will this be fixed in a future version?

I have finally got my head around the new editor, but one question i keep getting asked, "Why cant I add an image to a new page via the new editor."

I have looked an tried but can not seem to add new images, you can replace excisting but as content evolves people want to be able to change move images.

Example a client creates a new page, adds their text then thinks, maybe an image should go there, but how??

Can this only be done in the admin not the new editor??

First of all i want to thank you for adding more admin accounts and the new editor.

I agree with snarzom12 about adding new images to the site and there should also be a way to change the image size, is this possible today or will it be added in another update?

In the release note it say there will be new editable regions added, can you post a list over the new tags that have been added?

This looks promising but has anyone found a way to include the "Ctrl-E" or "Cmd-E" shortcut to bring the SBO directly to the editor after logging in? I liked this feature of the old ICE. I guess I could write this up using some jQuery to do this but I guess we don't need the old ICE's javascript files which (when adapted) had this functionality. Anyone have a workaround or implemented this shortcut functionality on the new content editor?

I'm wondering: is it possible to edit the <a href> tag on an image using this editor, so it will change where a user goes to when they click on an image. I currently have an image on all of my pages that goes to one site, but when I update the image, it still goes to the previous site when you click on it.

So, changing the image "link" - possible and if so how?

Also: I can NOT get the backwards compatability to work for me. It crashes in Muse every time I try to update it from BC.

Once you move your site to bc you should stop using muse. I don't think

your changes in muse will be reflected in bc.

Once your are in bc you can update that href by editing the space code of

your page.

Hi trickster,

One of the features of this release of Muse is that Muse will synchronize changes made with the Edit function in BC back into the Muse file. Part of the reason the editing functionality is limited is that it only allows edits that can be safely synchronized back into Muse.

Is there a file we can add to our DW CC config to get up to date "code hints" for the new editor? The ice: hints that come with DW CC relate to a different version.

Hi Grant Senior,

If you're a Muse user, indeed, Muse CC 5 is the version that lets you enable in-browser editing when publishing to a Business Catalyst site. If enabled in the site properties, Muse will automatically add appropriate ice:editable markup for you. After the site is edited online with in-browser editing, Muse will sync back the online changes to the .muse file, once the .muse file is reopened.

This forum document addresses the more general use case of Business Catalyst sites, which can be built independently of Muse, where the developer can apply more specific ice:editable markup.

I hope I brought some clarification, with the gist of it being: you do need Muse CC 5 in order for in-browser editing to work with Muse sites published on Business Catalyst. But in-browser editing also works for non-Muse, Business Catalyst-only sites.

Hi Grant Senior,

Previous versions of Muse prior to Muse CC 5 do not work with in-browser editing.

While there is no "standard" way of marking an image "un-editable", there is a trick/workaround with which you could achieve this: instead of placing the image as a regular image, make it a 'background' image: draw a rectangle and using the Fill Panel, choose an image as the fill. "Background" images are not marked as editable.

Hi Grant Senior,

You don't need to enable "online content editing" in My Settings to use in-browser editing. You will still have access to all of the site's pages, through in-browser editing, even when this setting is off.

If this setting is on, it enables the Site Manager>Pages menu, through which the page can be edited independently of in-browser editing and of Muse. If changes to the page are made beyond the scope of ice:editable regions, then Muse will not be able to bring these changes back into the .muse file - hence the not "not compatible with Muse" for this setting.

Some users who want to start a site in Muse, but then want to extend the site to take advantage of other Business Catalyst features, might want to enable this setting.

I hope this clarifies what this setting does.

I am finding the new ICE editor very handy but have a request that I notice a couple of other people have already mentioned.

Could you please add the option of paragraph styling to the html editor option. I think it's very important to have the option for clients to add basic formatting to the text area such as heading styles: Heading1, Heading2, Heading3 etc. The current html editor only allows bold, italic, font colours which are not great to keep a web page looking professional and in keeping with the site's styles. I don't use the font colours in the editor to prevent code bloat and heading styles would be a lot tidier which only leaves bold and italic.

Currently the only work around is to add single line ICE tags to a heading style, but this is too restrictive if the client wants to add a heading or sub-heading elsewhere which realistically they will want to do if they can control their whole page. Currently they can ofcourse use the general page editor on the dashboard in the Site Manager, but for a page with multi-columns or content blocks, this can be a nightmare hence the ICE editor they can be assured they don't delete any layout/grid html by accident.

Started using the new editor for a client. One thing I noticed right away is I cannot add a content holder. Please add the ability to add content holders to the page from the editor. It would be great to have the ability to choose from a list of content holders.

Also, for those clients who I have confidence in, I would like to be able to turn on adding HTML code to the page. For instance I have a number which needs to be enlarged when used on the page. I have done this using <span> around that number but a client cannot do the same when using the editor.

Just to chime in...

A client just called me saying they are not allowed to any changes on the webpage (red ERROR pop-up, not enough privileges... etc...)

I found that the new content editor Beta feature turned on for clients... support chat Surjeet said to turn it off...

So my frustrating experience:

- Beta feature turned on by Adobe - no good! IMHO, do not touch things until is fully working, looking pro and necessary; rather fix ecommerce, etc...

- in Dreamweaver CC, ICE includes are gone... this site had it on...

- new editor couldn't detect the editable content automatically, needed to add ide:editable="*" or other forced options like "HTML" - extra work, no likey!

- finally made the new editor work - somehow images don't show up in popup box. new wysiwyg editor couner intuitive... the whole reason for us agencies sign up with BC so the end user can edit content "visually". the black and white fceditor style doesn't do that... we already have the content editor inside of Admin, what is the point of all this new look without functions?

- then i decided I will turn off the new editor, re-allow ICE and let the system decide on what's editable. I just did that and then I tested in Safari (my client loves that browser for some reason). I found that everything back to same old but YOU CAN'T RESIZE AN IMAGE ANYMORE! when you click inside of the "pixel valu box" it just wont do anything! alt text says: Change value in pixels, but don't do it...

Can someone please do something about this mess?

***PS, Went to CREATE NOW yesterday in New York... Terry White, Paul Trani, Jason Levine... Great presentations, lots of lovely features in PHOTOSHOP, PREMIERE PRO, DREAMWEAVER CC, EDGE RELOW... but!!! They don't even say a word about BC!!! I asked Paul T. what is going on with BC and he said, he really don't know... and he suggested to contact ADAM BROADWAY to ask questions about things...

The last part of the presentation was Terry White shows Muse with new features!!! DESIGN WITHOUT CODE!!! SURE TERRY! LOL

Two pretty crucial things not added to the editor as yet:

Sub headings (h2 , h3 etc)
Align images left and right

There are other bits and pieces too, please bring this up to the level of a decent editor before releasing - surely you must know these are crucial things for our clients?

Agreed. There are some "nice to have" features to be added like being able to add content holders (that would be brilliant). But being able to add proper styling to text in terms of paragraphs, heading and sub headings is a must have. And the option to add or edit pictures ist useless without being able align those images or add a style to them which is doing that. And the option to add selected css styles would make things much much easier.

And there are some more very basic flaws: Its nice that I can add or edit hyperlinks but its essential that I can name a target frame as well. Linking a PDF e.g. without opening it in a new frame is not a good thing to do. The same with pitcures; Adding and editing images - great - but we also need to be able to set alt and title values.

BC recently rolled out some improvement to the new In-Context Editor so I put together a few demo's of what the ICE editor is really capable of for the BC Sandpile Group. It really is a very powerful tool so have a look if you're interested in finding out a little more. I cover the use in Email Marketing, basic page editing, hooking it into webapps and other modules and then look at converting a whole website landing page into an fully editable site which could be used with the Web Basic Plan.

I have been playing with the ICE editor with email campaigns and a client wanted to be able edit a set of pre defined anchors and the only way I thought it may work would be to have editable "id"s.

Any chance this option is going to be included into ICE?

Or does anyone know a work around so I can deliver this as a defined solution to the client - need to make it KISS for my clients - You follow!
