Thanks for the great and helpful tips. For #5, "Do I need to be a Creative Cloud member to try CC apps?", the link to sign up for a free membership doesn't work and the thread is locked so no comment can be made there... But here is the working link:

Although, technically speaking one does not have to be a member to run the CC free trials – the other option is to use the Adobe CC Direct Links to download and install any desired applications without being a member... However, to continue to use the tools after the tryout period is up, membership is required.

These direct links can also be useful when one needs or wants to make backup copies of the CC installers, burn them to DVD disc, or copy the files to other media (e.g., USB flash drive) for offline use or storage.
