How do I open a Photoshop Touch file in Photoshop, and vice versa?

When your files are stored in the Creative Cloud, you can access them on your mobile device using Adobe Photoshop Touch, or on your desktop computer using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop Touch can open files in the following formats: PSD (flattened), PSDX, PNG, JPG, and GIF. And, with a free plug-in for Photoshop CS5, you can open the PSDX files created by Photoshop Touch in Photoshop. [Note: PSD files can only be opened via the Adobe Creative Cloud. The file is converted, layers are flattened to a single layer, and other info that is only supported in Photoshop is removed.]

Download the plug-in

1. In a browser on your desktop computer, navigate to the Creative Cloud Apps & Services page.

Note: Photoshop CC doesn't natively support importing Photoshop Touch projects (this will change with a future product update) - in the meantime the plugin can be installed manually as described here.

2. Sign-in to Creative Cloud using your Adobe ID and click download under "Touch App Plugins" to start the download and install process. Included with the installer is a plug-in for Illustrator CS5 and CS5.1, which enables opening of Ideas files (.idea) in Illustrator, and a plug-in for Photoshop CS5, CS5.1, which enables opening of Photoshop Touch files (.psdx) in Photoshop.

3. You will be asked (if you haven't already) to install the Adobe Application Manager, follow the steps to install the manager, and the Touch App Plugin should begin the download and installation process. If it does not, click install next to the "Touch App Plugins" icon in the Adobe Application Manager to start the process.

4. You're all set to start opening your PS Touch files in Photoshop CS6.

Upload a file from Photoshop Touch to the Creative Cloud

1. In Photoshop Touch on your mobile device, ensure that you are in the organizer view. (Tap the arrow in the upper-left corner of the screen to move from edit view to the organizer view.)

2. Tap to display the share menu, and touch Upload To Creative Cloud.

3. Select the file to upload, and follow the steps to sign in and upload your file.

Open a Photoshop Touch file in Photoshop CS6

1. On your desktop computer, launch a browser and navigate to the Creative Cloud website.

2. Sign in, and navigate to your Photoshop Touch file.

3. Click the checkbox to select your file, then choose download and select a location on your hard drive.

4. Launch Photoshop CS5, and open the Photoshop Touch (PSDX) file.

Open a Photoshop CS6 file in Photoshop Touch

1. On your desktop computer, save your file in Photoshop CS5. (You can save the file with layers, but layers are flattened when the file is opened in Photoshop Touch.)

2. In a browser, navigate to the Creative Cloud website.

3. Sign in, and upload your Photoshop CS5 file to the Cloud.

4. On your mobile device in Photoshop Touch, use any of the add image options, such as Create new from image. Tap New from Creative Cloud, and navigate to your Photoshop CS5 file.

How to Add a Tattoo.

How to add a tattoo by transforming and applying a simple graphic to any area of skin in a photo.

1. After selecting the "Add a Tattoo" tutorial, press "Begin Tutorial" to start.

2. The top layer of this image isn't visible. Tap the target icon on the layer to make it appear.

3. The tattoo graphic is too large. Tap Transform to scale and rotate the graphic.

4. Drag any of the frame handles to reduce the size of the graphic.

5. Drag the center of the graphic to move it onto the arm.

6. Grab the rotate handle and rotate to match the angle of the arm. Tap Done.

7. Tap Layer properties and change the blend mode to Darken.

Tip: When choosing the Darken blend mode, only the darkest pixels in the graphic layer and the layer beneath will show. The white pixels on the graphic layer are still there but they are invisible in Darken mode.

8. To enhance the tattoo effect, reduce its opacity to about 70%.

9. Tap Layer properties again to close the dialog and evaluate your work.

10. Tap the back arrow in the top options bar. This will prompt you to save. Press Save to save your project.

Here is a quick run down of what's new in the 1.1 update to Photoshop Touch for Android:

Export to PNG functionality

When choosing Save to Camera Roll or Share by E-mail, you can now save to either JPEG or PNG.

Improved image quality of images saved to the local Camera Roll/Gallery

Save to Camera Roll saves out JPEGs which are compressed with max quality now instead of medium quality.

Improved compatibility with Android 4.0

This update addresses some issues related to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) compatibility; including resolving the in-app log-in issues with the Adobe Creative Cloud website.

General bug fixes and performance enhancements

Several performance and memory handling improvements (including Pinch & Zoom and Refine Edge).

Back button improvements

Standard Android Back button is accessible when it wasn't previously. This button supports returning prior to screens and can be used for easier folder navigation.

Note: Even though I open the Creative Cloud site through Adobe Photoshop Touch it can be opened in any browser directly by going to https://creative.adobe.com/

From the main screen to choose whether to open an existing project or start a new one, click the Creative Cloud icon on the top center.

This opens the Creative Cloud website in a browser, click the Sign In button.

Click the upload icon to start the upload process.

Process might differ slightly on a Mac/PC but should essentially be the same.

This was done on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Back in Adobe Photoshop Touch

Note: Adobe Photoshop Touch supports a maximum 1600x1600 resolution canvas.

How to share a Photoshop Touch image on Facebook

1. Open Photoshop Touch and look at your saved projects.

2. Tap the Share icon and tap Share to Facebook. (If you aren't already signed in to your Facebook account, you will be prompted to sign in.)

3. Select the image you want to share. Click OK.

4. Tap Share to share the image on your Facebook page.

5. Open your Facebook page to see your Photoshop Touch image.
