I would just like to bump this question up as I cannot for the life of me find any reference to Tag Editor in CF Builder 3. Nor any reference to it being removed. Is this a bug?

unable to deactivate previous coldfusion builder 2 installations

I can't activate an installation of ColdFusion Builder 2 because it says I have two adjacent installations of CF Builder on two other computers.

The two other computers disks drives were erased before CF Builder could be deactivated.

So, it still thinks they are currently being used.

What can I do ??

CFB 3 is a freaking mess. The FTP/RDS/SYNC is impossible to navigate. It's like they are trying to make it impossible on purpose.

Verified this with a few other guys to make sure this is not just my environment.

After a closer look, it looks like this file with 3000 lines of code is including (cfinclude) many other files and we think CF Builder 3 is trying to load them as well.

In Dreamweaver above scenario could be turned off. And I do not see any options in CF Builder 3 to do that.

I have tested a files with around 3000 lines of codes in CF Builder 3, i can open this file without any such problem, it may be your environment specific issue.

Please crosscheck any other such cfm file and observe its behavior..

When I try to open a large file having 2700 lines of code in CF Builder 3, it becomes completely unusable and in the task manager showing Not Responding.

@Carl - Well heck, yes I did... But after reading your response I went back and tried right-clicking on and refreshing different things and what worked was right-clicking on the project name in the Navigator window and then clicking on refresh in that context menu.

When I start my local CF11 server from within CF Builder 3 (installed on same server as CF Builder) I routinely get this error in the Server console window and then can't debug anything:

My Coldfusion 11 server is running in a virtual machine.

When I add a server I enter following data:

Server Name: CF KOV

Application Server: CF+Tomcat

Host name: 192.168.0.100

Webserver port: 8500

Select 'Is Remote'

This will add a server which status is 'Stopped'.

When I read the manual of Coldfusion Builder 3 I see that I have to start a Admin Server Instance with adminstart.bat
This adminstart.bat isn't installed.

Where can I find this bat file?

Should I stop the service 'ColdFusion 11 Application Server' and all other Coldfusion services?

While installing COldfusion 11 I used the option 'Server configuration' and not the 'JEE configuration'

CF Builder 3 Debugging

When debugging in CF Builder 3, there is a dialog that pops up asking how you want to debug. The choices are 'ColdFusion Application' or 'ColdFusion Client Applications'. I am never going to choose 'ColdFusion Client Applications'. Is there a way to always run as 'ColdFusion Application' without having to select from this dialog every time? CF Builder 2 would just start running as soon as you hit the debug button without a dialog popping up. I guess I'm wondering if there is anyway to get CF Builder 3 to work the same. Thank you.

I tested this issue on MAC(standalone) and Windows machine(Standalone as well as plug-in) installation, i am getting this issue on only MAC machine but not on Windows.

This is NOT a mac only problem. I have it installed on a windows 7 box and there is not CFML Reference links that work.

Does anybody test this stuff before you guys go live? If somebody decides to change how the help works, do they tell the developers that they need to make it work?

I just downloaded a couple of weeks ago too so unless you have something pretty recent, I have the most recent product.

I encountered what I believe is a bug within CFBuilder 3 (standalone and Eclipse plugin) where code coloring breaks after you insert a comment in a function with named arguments. To replicate the issue copy/paste the following code in CF Builder:

argument3 = "blueberries",

argument4 = "pineapples"

You should see argument3,argument4, and the closing bracket are colored incorrectly. If you encounter the same issue and you'd like to see this fixed please feel free to vote for this bug here:

It should be noted that Dreamweaver can handle this type of code coloring situation fine.

I believe it is a feature that is disabled entirely in the express edition. I can't confirm that though, as I have a full license to ColdFusion Builder.

Update: I tried using CFBuilder as a plugin for Eclipse (64 bit) and then followed the steps here: CFBuilder 2 Performance Problems on Windows 7 64-bit Solved » websolete.

So far I have experienced noticeably faster response times. However, the program still hangs when trying to suggest variable names. It would be great if there was a way just to disable that feature until Adobe fixes it.

Does anyone know how to turn off the code assist feature where CFBuilder tries to assist you by listing all the variables on the page? I have a CFC with over 3000 lines and it causes CFBuilder to hang/freeze like you wouldn't believe. I'd like to turn off this feature for large files (or at least see if I can tune the feature to be smarter about what variables it suggests).

Does anyone know how to disable this feature on a specific template or turn this feature off altogether? Note: I do want to keep the tag attribute suggestion if possible.

Yes. I also get crashes in CFBuilder when editing SQL. I just tried editing preferences ColdFusion > Profiles > Editor > Code Assist and turned off "Automatically Display SQL Code Assist When Typing" to see if that helps. Let me know if that helps anyone else or not.

FIX FOR SQL SERVER ONLY!!!

I wrote this simple script to get the names of all the system views in SQL server - I'm sure M$ add new tables and as Terry appears to no longer develop apptacular he won;t be aware of the new views. Simply run the script and copy and paste the list of views it creates. Instructions will be displayed after running the script........

I agree. The CF Documentation for both my installs using the standalone CF Builder 3 fail to display any of the Coldfusion documentation. It shows up in the contents, but fails when I pick any of the available references. I've posted and asked others and do not get a response.

This forum is not monitored. You can see that on the main page where it shows articles about the beta of CF Builder 3.

Answering the questions backwards: Yes, RDS is enabled in CF Administrator. Everything that I have installed is locally as a localhost, from my mySQL to my CFAdministraor. CFAdministrator connects successfully with mySQL, and CF Builder 3 connects successfully to CF Administrator and thus the mySQL database.

One thing I find in the book regarding Application.cfc (pg 394, ch 18 if anyone is interested) is that it must be created and it is automatically executed just before each of the pages that make up the application. It is supposed to be in the same folder as the other templates, somewhere within the Web server's document root. I've created the file and placed it in the same place that I save my other pages, so I think it technically should be OK. I put the following in it:

I think it should be OK, but it still doesn't work. I'm about to give up on this and if I need to test out some SQL or change something I'll just use mySQL. I'm assuming that if I create a CF page that edits a row in the database that it will work, it is just that I can't use the SQL editor in the CF Builder 3 to change the data. Any confirmation or thoughts?

OK, so you have the datasource configured properly in CF Administrator. Did you set up the ColdFusion server instance properly inside CF Builder (or are you using the built-in "defaultLocal" instance)? And did you enable RDS during the ColdFusion server installation?

FWIW, I just tried inserting a new record into a scratch database from RDS. I get a different error:

java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]No ResultSet set was produced.

but the record is created if I refresh the table view contents. Also, if end the insert statement with a semicolon and put a select statement after it, everything runs without error.

Thanks Carl. That was the key, getting the correct version of EGit. I followed other instructions that tried to install the latest version of EGit. I kept getting conflicting software errors. Here's the process I followed. First, go to this link to determine the version of EGit you need: http://wiki.eclipse.org/EGit/FAQ#What_versions_of_Eclipse_does_EGit_target.3F Go to the table labeled "What versions of Eclipse does EGit target?" Look at the column labeled Supported Version of Eclipse to find your version of Eclipse. In my case, it was Eclipse 3.7.2+ (Indigo). There are two versions of EGit for this listed., 2.2.0 and 2.3.1. If you look in the table above labeled "Where can I find older releases of EGit?" you will see the column named "Release Versions" with your version of EGit. In the right column, labeled "p2 repository URL", you will see a link. I used the one for EGit 2.2.0 as it was the one that installed correctly without an error. The link I entered in CFB's install new software was http://archive.eclipse.org/egit/updates-2.2

There is a great tutorial on this at http://cfmumbojumbo.com/cf/githelp/index.htm It is for Coldfusion 9, but it still works.

I do have ColdFusion 11 Administrator installed. When I go to Data and Services there and open the datasource (OWS) that I want to connect to and query off of, and go to Advanced Settings, I show that the following are selected:

SELECT	CREATE	GRANT
INSERT	DROP	REVOKE
UPDATE	ALTER	Stored Procedures
DELETE

If, in ColdFusion Builder 3, I open the RDS Query viewer and write the following basic update query (Server: default:local; Datasource: OWS):

insert into directors(FirstName, LastName)

Values ('Benjamin', 'Forta');

I get the following RDS error message:

java.sql.SQLException: Can not issue data manipulation statements with executeQuery().

According to the book and some information I have seen online, the SQL Query Tool, for security's sake, by default allows execution of SELECT statements, but no other SQL statements. According to the book, to change this behavior I need to edit the Application.cfc file in the ows/sql directory. I have to change the THIS.select_only flag from the default of yes to no and save the file. I cannot find this file anywhere. I have seen an application.cfm, but I think this is different that what they want because I can't find anything in that file that says THIS.select.

When you say that you have "set this mySQL database to be able to be edited", do you mean you enabled the INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE checkboxes for the datasource?

Also, ColdFusion Builder is only an IDE for writing ColdFusion code - it doesn't actually run the code (you need a ColdFusion Server set up somewhere to run the code, although CF Builder does come with an optional built-in copy of ColdFusion 11). So what do you mean that "ColdFusion Builder 3 doesn't seem to allow any editing of the tables"?

Can you provide some code samples to show exactly what you are trying to do and what the actual result (or error) is?

I feel like this is a really simple and stupid question and should be easy to figure out, but I can't.

I am relearning ColdFusion after 12 years out of the IT field. I am using the ColdFusion 9 Getting Started:Volume 1 book. In Chapter 7 it states that I need to edit the Application.cfc file so that I can edit the database rather than just selecting from the database. I can't seem to find anything related to that file in any search. In my ColdFusion 11 Administrator I have set this mySQL database to be able to be edited, but ColdFusion Builder 3 doesn't seem to allow any editing of the tables. I have not had much luck searching for help regarding this on the internet either. My biggest problem so far is getting ColdFusion Builder to talk with my mySQL database properly so I can actually get on with relearning ColdFusion and writing code. Frustrating!!

You need to install EGit, an Eclipse plugin. Go to the Help menu, and select "Install New Software". At the top of the dialog, pick the site for Eclipse Indigo repository. Under the Collaboration group of plugins, look for EGit or Eclipse Git Team Provider.

I have just solved it....I had the webserver port set to 8500, it should have been port 80. Although on my other sert up it's port 8500. Anyway.....I would still welcome any views on environment set up .

Configure CFBuilder 1 on IIS 7.5

Some help required please.

We have a current set up with CF9 running on a win 2003 IIS6 server, also on the same server is CFBuilder 1. My 'production code' lives in c:\inetpub\wwwroot and my developement code that is viewed in CFBuilder is on

ColdFusion9\wwwroot\codeDevelopment. The server I have set up in CFBuilder has a document root of ColdFusion9\wwwroot, this all works fine and has been for about 3 years.

We have a requirement for a 2nd server, so I bought us CF11 and CFbuilder 3 - after a terrible time trying to get these both working on the same server as I have the current set up I have given up. Also, most of our sites have heavily chart based. After discovering the differencies to the CF11 charting engine vs CF9 it was another reason to give up.

So - I have decided to deploy a 2nd CF9 installation.The new server this is on is a win 2008 R2 (64-bit) running IIS 7.5. I have CF9 (32-bit) working as it should and now want to add CFbuilder so I have an environment that matches the current one.

I can install CFbuilder 1 with no issues but I cannot seem to start the server. Because I have IIS on this box I am choosing type 'other' not Jrun when I am adding a new sever. The question is how do I start this server ? It cannot be started from the CFBuilder app, so how do I start it ?

Or - am I going about this all the wrong way, should I be setting up my environment differently, am I making life difficult for myself. I will confess I am not a developer and have been 'getting by' with this over the past 3-4 years. When I set this up at first, this just seemed a reasonable way to set it up - should I be doing it differently ?

Any commect / help appreciated.

Is this site monitored? Am I the only one with a mac that this is not working on? I have this on my iMac and on a Macbook Pro. Both have the same issue.

These were full installs without the CF11 install. I already had the developers edition of CF installed. The documentation is really important to me to review.

I get the same issue running ColdFusion Builder 3 (on the Eclipse 4.2.2 as a plugin, not the stand-alone 3.8 version that comes with ColdFusion Builder 3) while running the RDS on port 8500 and ColdFusion 11 running on Windows 8.1

The installation of ColdFusion Builder (and Apptacular) and running the RDS work as expected, but when trying to 'Generate Application' under the Apptacular menu on the given database, I get the same error. It looks like the last build for Apptacular is Nov 19, 2010 which ran on the old IDE platform that ColdFusion Builder 2 was built on. So it is hard to say whether it is a Coldfusion 11 issue, Eclipse issue, or Coldfusion Builder 3 issue. Sent an email to Terrence to see if there is either a workaround or a new release in the works.

If anyone else has this issue, here is the reason. I received CF builder 2 at a promo price for buying CF Server in 2011. That license is not in the Adobe system as a full license. Anit,was able to assist me in getting a correct license for CF Builder 3 from the licensing group, so my recommendation is to reach out to support!

I have been finding the editor flags some valid syntax as compile errors. This is working code, so I'm not sure why this editor is flagging them as errors. Our team was hoping to add Cold Fusion Builder 3 for our Devs, but it is proving troublesome so far.

The line below shows up as an "Invalid Token" compile error:

param name="url" default={};

The line below says "Invalid Token Component"

public component function preinit() {

Also, it would be great if there was documentation on getting RDS working and also remote debugging on Apache or IIS. The very limited documentation uses the easier localhost examples and most are from 2009.
