I have been getting calls from my users that tell me that videos will not show up since they updated their Shockwave.

I have tested it here and with an older version of Shockwave, everything is fine but when I updated, the video no longer displayed.

The audio does play but no video.
Does the same on all browsers.

Adobe, please fix this asap!!!!!!

Shockwave Flash Object = Flash Player.

Shockwave ActiveX Control = Shockwave Player.

I had not checked All Add-ons previously. Now besides the Flash Object, I see two Shockwave ActiveX Controls, which were already enabled supposedly. I have once again uninstalled and reinstalled my Shockwave using the link you quoted there and I'm still stuck in the same issue. Are those add-ons related to Flash, or the Shockwave Player? And is there perhaps a different installer to use?

I found this post in another thread. It is older (from 2007) but might be worth trying. I will do so now and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply. I have done that, from at least two different sites. I have both the slim and the full. I watched the details screen as it was downloading and saw it deleting the files from the previous download and then putting files into output folders. I thought I saw the Xtra files opened but not sure. I tried to go back and check, but I can't find the shockwave program files. It's not in the Programs or Programs(86) files. The installer file is there but that's all. In the firefox addons, it shows both the Shockwave and Shockwave Director, both are considered up to date. BTW, I downloaded the Director file also. And a new Flash. And still I get the same errors messages.

I'm running Win 8.1 64 with Firefox 33.1. I clicked on your link and downloaded that through a download manager and installed it. So far it still shows the error messages. I'm shutting down and restarting to see what happens.

UPDATE: I restarted. No changes - same errors.

Have you tried just to run the update? The updater icon should disappear after that.

Or if you don't want to update at all, disable auto-update: http://helpx.adobe.com/shockwave/kb/disable-auto-update-setting-shockwave.html

When you checked the IE add-ons, did you select All Add-ons?

If it's not there either, download & install the latest Shockwave Player 12.1.4.154 from http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/default/english/win95nt/latest/Shockwave_In staller_Full.exe

Recently upgraded to Yosemite OS X 10.10. Whenever Safari is opened, most sites have some sort of Shockwave needed. The most specific is Apple's. Whenever I open the homepage, Apple and the homepage to Dashboard Widgets, Apple - Downloads - Dashboard, I receive several popup windows

Most of the time when there aren't any other apps open or if there are, I must shut the computer down via the power button. When I then go through installation

OK, I have not deleted the Adobe folder from the SysWOW64, so that's normal, OK.

Under my security options, "Run ActiveX controls and plugins" is set under enabled. Oddly enough, when I click "Manage Add-ons", the only thing that appears is Shockwave Flash Object (which I believe is separate from my Shockwave Player issue), which is enabled. No Shockwave Player add-on is visible, yet it's working just fine on Chrome. Does the add-on need to be... added manually?

Shockwave Player is only available as 32-bit, so it needs to be in SysWOW64.

Is it (Shockwave ActiveX Control) enabled in Internet Explorer add-ons?

Try the following:

download and run the uninstaller http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/uninstall/win/sw_uninstaller.exe
delete folder :\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Director
download and run the installer http://www.adobe.com/go/sw_full_exe_installer

Hi. I am having the same problem as caroline. I don't have screen shots, but I have the text of the error messages:

I click on the item that uses Shockwave.

First error window:

Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA - Title only. There's no more except the OK button.

I click OK, then get:

Director Player Error (Title)

This application requires an Xtra (Text) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s).

I click on that OK, then get the last box:

Shockwave (title)

Error playing Director movie.

If seeing the screen shots would be more helpful, I can get them for you (I think).

I think it happened when I ran an update for Shockwave. I reinstalled Shockwave Full for other browsers (I use Firefox - how is that not listed with Safari and IE?!) and then Shockwave Slim. I've actually reinstalled these over and over, with and without antivirus and malware programs turned off. I still get the same errors over and over.

Hi folks, ever since I upgraded my Mac to OS X Yosemite whenever I am using Chrome (which is always) Shockwave crashes sooner or later, every single day - sometimes twice.

Is there a fix for this?

I read some oldish stuff on this site http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/internet/3332967/how-stop-shockwave-flash-crashing-in-go ogle-chrome/ that says there is a conflict with the Shcokwave plug-ins for the other browsers and to delete them, but I use them too - sometimes at the same tiime.

Again, how to stop this?

I'd just like to bump this back into the active to inform that I'm still having issues with the re-installation despite the attempted help so far. It looks like the Adobe folder went to the SysWOW64 folder instead of System32, as I suppose it's supposed to be according to other forums. So I copy pasted the Adobe folder into the System32 folder, but the only change has been that the error box mentioned in my last reply no longer appears, yet the test page still fails to appear in IE 11. Any other suggestions, I'm at a loss really.

This ("Shockwave Flash") is about Flash Player, not Shockwave Player. You need to post in the Flash Player forum, as Sean has suggested in his first reply.

OK, I uninstalled and reinstalled using the full installer you linked to. While it still works on Chrome, when I go the Adobe test page in Internet Explorer, an alert comes up saying: "This website wants to install the following add-on: "Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1" ". So I click Install, the page refreshes, and still nothing appears but an error box stating "This system must be restarted to complete the installation. Please try Shockwave Player installation after restarting the system." I restarted the computer and still nothing. So what can I do now?

So, first of all, this is my first time posting here. Thank you all in advance for reading this. I've read through all the troubleshooting pages on Adobe's site but can't seem to work my way around this. I do have Adobe Shockwave (not Flash) installed on my computer since I primarily use it for http://www.isketch.net which is an online form of Pictionary, rather ancient site, but still fun to play around with. Anyways, I have version 12.1.3 installed since June 2014. All of a sudden, tonight, the site tells me I need to install the plugin. I go and see it is already enabled under "Manage Add-ons" in the Tools section of my IE11 browser.

Also, I was thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that might help, but the get.adobe shockwave page redirects me to something about 64-bit browsers even though I always use 32-bit and am using it right now. So what options do I have here? Thank you in advance!

In the thread you are suggesting contains a lot of people asking the same Shockwave crash questions.

After digging around in there and in the help section I have found several things to try..

Sense they did not work for me I am in the adobe shockwave player discussion thread trying to see if anyone has anything else on this?

You are right — insofar as this forum is for the Shockwave Player, the plug-in for content created with Director.

However, many years ago Macromedia decided to call their brand new player for Flash content "Shockwave Flash", presumably in an effort to piggy-back on the mind-share that Shockwave had already gained. This has caused endless confusion ever since, especially now that the Flash Player keeps crashing. Take my advice and (search then) post on the Flash Player forum — you'll see any number of threads about crashes, presumably with some recommended fixes too
