Yes, it is possible. In fact, ColdFusion 11 offers you a number of choices, depending on your needs.

You could use the JMS and ActiveMQ gateways to implement a messaging platform between base-station (the company or back office) and operators. You may then use queues for point-to-point ('personal') messages and topics for publish-subscribe messaging. If you want just a light, chat-like messaging platform, then you could use websockets.

I have been reading about gateways and want to build a new CF11 application to use it. What I want is that my application can comunicate with operators in the field, two ways, realtime, so that every operator has his own personal postbox. Is this possible?

I think you should check the "Maximum number of threads available for CFTHREAD" in the Request Tuning secion. I had set it to 60 (yep thats far too realistic). I got my senses from this post: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/cfmldeveloper/I-3aCT2_ZtM

I made it 10, restarted the server and things looked good.

Hmmz...

So I must be missing something really stupid... (Mind you, I'm reasonably well aquainted with java but not with CF..)

I'm using NetBeans to build my project and this seems to work. (No errors and I end up with a jar file.

Although I'm building a library and not an application I díd edit my manifest file (although it didn't make much sense..) and added the 'main class'.

But I still get the same error...

Is there any way (from administration interface or a short cfm script) to tell what path and files are loaded and available? I'm starting to think I'm barking up the wrong tree here....

I found the solution. There was a cfabort in the code and you get this error of min. You need to check the exception.log.

I am getting an error like this when my eventgateway gets invoked for directorywatch:

Getting an Error with EventGateway in Mac OSX 10.8

Two machines, both fresh ColdFusion installs. Set up a Gateway Instance named cfflexgw. Point it to a working CFC and the local cfg file. When I send a simple message to the gateway, I get the following error:

Unable to find the Flex adapter for destination ColdFusionGateway in the RMI registry on localhost:1099.

Multiserver 9.0.2. Using the base cfusion instance, and I did not alter any of the xml config files yet. This code worked on 9.0.1 (and is still working) in OSX 10.7. I also tried a stripped down CFC and message. Any help yoiu can provide is appreciated! Remoting is working fine BTW, just not sending message from CF via the ColdFusionGateway.

I also had a similar problem with my coldfusion 8 several years ago. The only solution I could find was to switch to Ozeki NG SMS Gateway, because it turned out to be the only reliable gateway on the market that also provides the capacity I need.

Where have you been looking? This is an IBM MQ installation issue, not a ColdFusion issue.

You will first have to install IBM MQ in ColdFusion. This will normally involve downloading the IBM MQ installation JAR files (central of which is com.ibm.mq.jar) to the ColdFusion lib directory.

I haven't used OpenMQ yet, but have used JORAM. Yes, the generic gateway that ships with ColdFusion supports only Topics. You could adapt it to support Topics as well as Queues.

Yes, JRun4 is J2EE 1.3 compliant. I am not aware of the requirements for OpenMQ. If OpenMQ indeed requires Java EE 1.4, then the combination with JRun4 may not be a good idea. One reason is, you have to include the JAR file of the application server in the settings in the build.xml for the gateway Java classes.

Converting ColdFusion's generic gateway from JMS1.0.2 to JMS1.1 is relatively simple to solve. Convert the Java code to JMS1.1. Then download the relevant javax.jms.jar file from the web, and copy it to the lib directory of ColdFusion's gateway.

Time to lose Jrun

Your application might be reverting to an older, cached version of the CFC or class file. If so, then the following procedure could help.

Go to the Caching page of ColdFusion Administrator. Press the button to clear the component cache (I am on CF9). Uncheck the checkbox "Save Class files". Press the button to Submit the Changes

SMS Event Gateway problem

Hello,

I am having a strange problem with my SMS Gateway. The SMPP connection to the external gateway is fine, and outgoing messages are never a problem.

The problem is to do with my incoming.cfc - the gateway instance points to "incoming.cfc" and that file is set up to send an auto reply to the incoming message and add some details to a database. Simple and it works as tested.

Every couple of days though the incoming messages stop getting added to the database, and the auto reply messages don't get generated. The log files indicate that (allthough no changes have been made to either the incoming.cfc file or any other files or configuration settings) we have somehow "switched back" to an earlier version of the incoming.cfc file - I can tell this because the wording of the return message in the logs matches this earlier version.

I have read Adobe documentation that says the gateway will use whatever incoming.cfc it is pointed to and you don't need to refresh the event gateway instance if you change the cfc - even though the old cfc has been deleted off the server entirely and the new one not changed - when the problem occurs (every other day) an instance refresh appears to fix it.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

In the Coldfusion Admin, under Gateway Instances I have configured the following:

Gateway ID: helpdesk

Gateway Type: XMPP - Handles XMPP instant messaging

CFC Path: C:\ColdFusion9\gateway\cfc\helpdesk\im.cfc

Configuration File: C:\ColdFusion9\gateway\config\helpdesk_ejabberd_local.cfg

After I start the "helpdesk" event and check the eventgateway.log there is the following mesage:

the messageID comes back synch, immediately. the delivery receipt depends on 
their network & of course on the receiver, maybe they will return the receipt, 
maybe not.

if your vendor is standard, the  receipt comes back as a "regular" SMS except 
the CFEvent.Data.esmClass is 4 (vs 0 for "normal" SMS & 64 for multipart SMS). 
you have to parse that message to get the receipt (but you probably know that).

no idea what "something else" is or why they'd be sending it. if it's an error, 
cf knows that as long as your vendor is standard. if it's clearly a string, cf 
just passes that on to your onIncomgMessage() method where you can deal with it.

did you ask them about the format of the ID?

what does "no status returned" mean? no delivery receipt? does your SMS vendor

return hex IDs (you won't be able to tell from the IDs as cf will try to convert

them to decimal)? if so there's a bug w/cf's hex-to-decimal conversion, see:

no IDs returned depends on your SMS vendor. for the ones i've dealt with it,

often means they couldn't send the SMS because of an issue w/the phone number,

First things first, the 100000 should be without a space or comma. If that still doesn't work, then it could perhaps be that some ColdFusion configurations find 100000 excessive, and revert to the default value 10. Set the maximum value to 5000 and see what happens.

Directory watcher Flase event

Hi,

I am having a problem with directory watcher, environment is :

Windows 2003

Coldfusion 8.0.1

Current scenario :

My directory watcher is watching a shared folder (A) on network, and copies files from that folder to a different share folder (B) on network (Both shared folder are in different boxes)

Problem :

Sometime my onAdd fires at odd times and it starts copying all the files available on A folder to B. And when I check logs, that time no files were added in A folder.

Problem is onAdd event fires any time and I dont know why its happening.

Please Help.

Some more info:

I am not moving files from A to B, just copying, so old files remains in same folder, there are around 3000-4000 files as of now in A folder, and every day 10-12 files gets copy in A.

Is there a way to restart directory watcher interface from javascript?

Running the directory watcher gateway interface under CF8, watching a network directory, the connection to the remote server is occasionally lost, causing the interface to "fail". Is it possible to code javascript or cf to test the status of the interface and restart it? I see the start(), stop(), restart() and status() methods but I'm not sure (need an example) how they might be used.

Hi,

We are running ColdFusion 9 inside JBOSS.

We have event gateways that communicate with JMS Queue from JBOSS to acquire the vehicle related data for further processing (about 2 millions data per day in real time).

However, we facing performance degradation for the event gateways after it runs for 8hrs (initially data processing at 0 sec delay, subsequently built up to almost 10 mins delay) and it requires restart to resume back to normal speed.

Further checking on the servers show that the event gateways occupied all CPU processing power after running for few hrs.

May I know what is the issue and what can i do improve the performance. Your help shall be high appreciated.

Below the settings for event gateways.

Queue Size : 10000

Thread : 30

Server Spec

IBM x3650 series

RAM : 6GB

Processor : Dual Quad Core Processors 2.5GHZ

I'm using the following:

ColdFusion: 8,0,1,195765

Edition: Standard

Operating System: Windows 2003

Java Version: 1.6.0_20

I have a batch process that queues file upload requests by sending messages to a CFML (asynchronous CFC) gateway.

I get the following messages repeatedly in my eventgateway.log:

Problem adding event for gateway Amazon S3 Gateway Service: Queue size of 10 exceeded when attempting to add more assignments into the threadpool task queue.

I have the same batch process and gateway cfc on multiple servers. During the batch process, I will queue up many requests, somewhere between 1000 and 5000. Only one request processes at a time, which exactly how I want it to work.

I was able to succesfully run the process on 10 different servers all of which are using ColdFusion Standard Edition 8,0,0,176276 and did not receive any of the errors in the eventgateway.log. On the four servers where I get these errors, three are ColdFusion 8,0,1,195765 and one is 9,0,0,,251028.

All the ColdFusion parameters appear to be the same on all servers. The Event Gateway settings on all servers are set to the following:

Event Gateway Processing Threads = 1

Maximum number of events to queue = 100,000

My problem was not "randomly skipping of files". In the ColdFusion administrator under Event Gateways/Settings a parameter for "Maximum number of events to queue" is configured to 10 by default. If you FTP more than 10 files in a timeframe under your configured run interval you will lose events. My directory watcher was running every 60 seconds and it was common to FTP > 10 files in 60 seconds. My solution was to increase the "Maximum number of events to queue" and decrease my run interval from 60 to 15. The combination of these two configuration changes has fixed my missing files problem.

CF9 Directory Watcher randomly skips files

I'm using the directory watcher gateway to log changed files as they are pushed (FTP'd) to a development server. The gateway occassionally misses random files. I've seen some older post where this was a problem and was looking to see if the problem still exists on CF9. The onAdd/onUpdate methods simply write the file details to a SQL database. There is very little logic in the .cfc.

If you FTP 10 files to the server it will tell you 8 changed. If you push the same 10 again it will in some cases it will reconcile the missing files. I have the intervalconfigured for 60 seconds.

Some progress...

Stop all the directory watchers instances

Add a blank file with the corresponding path and name that Prosess Monitor shows jrun is trying to create

Repeat until process monitor stops complaining about NAME NOT FOUND for files in your watched directories

Delete all remaining blank files you added (they may have been processed by the event gateway even while it was stopped, so kill any files your cfc might create in watched directories, too)

Restart the gateways

Test

Success!

Without having to remove gateway instances and without having to restart jrun.

Now it's a matter of figuring out why it got into that state in the first place, and how to prevent it...

Don't know if this would work if you use an onDelete function. It seems as if the function calls get queued up, and can only be cleared by stopping the gateway (to prevent more function calls from queueing up), and making jrun happy (seeing the file that it expects to exist).

Poking around in process monitor, I found that the following error was being thrown incessantly.

Date	<Timestamp>

Result	NAME NOT FOUND
Path	path\to\file.ext
Duration	<duration>

This error was being thrown incessantly even though all the gateway instances were stopped.

(I even stopped them using the global disable on the gateway settings page.)

So I went ahead and dumped a blank file with the name the error specified into the path the error specified.

Process monitor reported a success, and the errors stopped flooding process monitor.

I reenabled the gateway instances and tried a test file. Same problem. Counter gets incremented, nothing happens, nothing in logs, process monitor shows the same error over and over for the new file.

Same exact issue.

Running CF9 Hotfix 1 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

DirectoryWatcher Event Gateway runs fine, then suddenly gives up.

When a file is added to the target directory, the event counter in increments as expected, but the appropriate function (onAdd) in the .cfc is never called.

There is zero information in any of the logs to indicate the directory watcher gateway instance has done anything.

The only indication that the gateway is alive is the event counter in the cfide administration page.

Restarting the gateway does not fix it.

Restarting jrun does fix it. But since this is a production server, we can't just be restarting willy-nilly.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We have a directory watcher gateway that has worked quite well in the past, but over the past couple days has started having problems. What seems to happen is that the gateway cfc stops firing when a file is added to a directory. Stopping and restarting the gateway doesn't fix the problem. However we are running 4 instances on the server, so I removed the gateway from one instance and added it to another. Things started working again. Then the next day, the new gateway stopped working. Moved it back to the original instance, and it's working again.

We also have a scheduled task that cleans up files that the gateway misses, it runs every 3 minutes. The gateway does log some "file does not exist" errors but it seems to only happen when the scheduled task runs - that is, it seems like the gateway doesn't notice the files until another process tries to do something with them!

Incidentally we have been doing a pretty high volume of traffic lately and the server has had some other issues (another process has brought it down multiple times in the past week) - so the server has actually been restarted a few times lately (it's in a cluster of 2). I'm not sure how these things would really affect the gateway's operaion though.

Does anyone know what might be going on here? Thanks in advance!

Only just seen this one. It should be straightforward. Is the setting in the configuration(cfg file) of your socket-gateway instance port=1070?

Sending True Binary SMS With CF Gateway

So I have been working to send actual binary instructions to some remote decvices using the CF gateway. I am setting the command to "data" and the messagePayload to a binary object made up of a hex string. What the stopping point is, is that CF seems to transmit the message to the SMSC as plain text almost no matter what.

I have had some success changing up the DataCoding optional parameter and it has sent the messages to my test SMSC as binary BUT the big issue is that i need to send the message with a specific DCS (datacoding) value to get the remote device to recognize and execute the command.

So, does anyone know what else I have to do to get these messages to go through as binary every time?

Do you know what the range for the DataCoding parameter is? CF SEEMS to want it as a number then it transforms it into the HEX string that the SMSC wants but it seems like any number above 128 gets totally ignored and the message goes through as plain text.

All in all its a very strange issue and it seems like i'm missing some key part of how to make this work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

After I did some readings on Coldfusion SMS Event Gateway.

I'm wondering whether I need an external SMS server or system for the SMS gateway in CF to work. Looking forward to get reply from you all.

After further research, I find the following in the socket-gateway log:

Error attempting to listen on socket: java.net.socketException: socket closed

This is a strange one, because the socket is clearly open when I look at it through Windows administration tools.

I am using port 1070, and because it is over port 1000, I should not need any special permissions.

In the CF administrator it shows the gateway instance as running, but no in and out entries get registered.

I have stopped and restarted the gateway hundreds of times. No effect. Always the message shown above in the socket-gateway log.

Is there a bug that I need to know about?

CF8 on a windows environment.

Web searches turn up nothing, so apparently nobody is using the socket gateway. Even the Adobe documentation is barely existant. Not really sure why I am posting this here, since it is obvious that nobody reads, much less responds to, queries in the Gateway section!

I set up a gateway, and it says it is running, but through all of my testing I get no in or out transactions recorded.

I used the SMS test system provided and it works, and records both in and out transactions, so something must be set up right.

I have my gateway set up to launch a CFC that sends me an email, as a test. It never gets activated. I dont think the CFC is even getting triggered.

I know the badge scanner is working correctly because it logs scans through a simple telnet connection and writes the scan to a text file.

Am I on the wrong track here?

I am using CF8 in a windows environment.

I have a magentic stripe reader on the network at IP xxx.xx.xxx.174:1070

When a badge is scanned, I want that information to automatically log in my SQL database. I think a Socket Gateway is what I want, so it will listen to the address in question, and allow me to capture and store the information upon a scan, but I cant find much information on the net as to how to go about this. I have gone through the exanples but apparently I am not smart enough to "get it". Can anyone point me in the right direction?
