The larger issue is, search worked for me and then it stopped working after I deleted some projects, changed context, etc. No changes were made to the server or client, so it was some pre-existing problem that cropped up when doing these specific actions--but which one? I am working on applying the update to Server, but it takes time in the government to get patches approved.

Only the project's own navigation is shown.

... If you take that copied link and use that as a the hyperlink address, instead of simply copying it into the browser address line and browsing to it directly, the link WILL work. For example, this hyperlink will work for the original query:

http://192.168.231.128:8080/robohelp/robo/server/general/projects/Second%20project%20outpu t/Welcome.htm

Say that the author(s) of the projects have an agreement that project names (eg, "Second project output") and the first topic ("Welcome") will have static names. Is there a way to, for example, create a link in the Welcome page of the First project output which opens the Welcome page of the Second project output?

I am having the exact same problem. We are running the following setup:

Robohelp HTML11.0.0.179

Robohelp Server 9

Publishing to no specific context (no area, just general)

Running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, 2GB RAM

Tomcat 7.0.39

JDK7u17

History of changes:

We have been publishing and running successfully for a few months now, but yesterday, the server started hanging up--no errors, it just wouldn't load the project in the browser. I was totally stumped. After a few more publishing efforts (successful), it still wouldn't respond. Everything looked OK. The files were on the server. However, when logging in as admin to Robohelp Server, it couldn't communicate with itself--it wouldn't display the projects page. Finally, I ran across this thread: RoboHelp Server 8 becomes unresponsive

I bumped up the Tomcat initial memory to 512 and it worked.

Unfortunately, I already made lots of radical changes to try troubleshooting it before I ran across the thread above. I got rid of the contexts, cleared out all folders, manually deleted a bunch of stuff out of the project folders on the server, created a new context in configuration manager, checked it out in admin (OK), and then republished clean to this fresh context. All generation and publication was successful.

Like I said, it looks great, runs great, but now the search (which did work fine) doesn't return any hits. I did check the Output View and it claims it generated full text search results OK ("Finished processing Full-Text-Search data in 57 sec(s).)

Help??

SQL Server Express causing log in difficulties....

All-

Well, I'm not out of the woods yet. I've discovered that my issues of logging in to RHS Config Manager (admin/admin, but then nothing happens when I click Sign-In) returns when I select SQL Server Express. This despite the fact that the Config Mgr's Test Connection function shows success (see graphic below). Any ideas what might be going on?

BTW, is there any source which shows screen shots of EXACTLY how SQL Server Express, Tomcat, and RH Server needs to be set up? I see that others in the forum have had similar frustration with this question.

I'm having trouble adding users to a group other than the RobAdmin. Please let me know what/if I'm doing wrong.

Rh Server *is* a database-driven application and as such it requires a database be up and working for both serving content as well as reporting.

Your IT person raises good points. I have used the "SQL Express" version without issues. As your IT person already knows, there are certain Microsoft connection and size limitations on its use. Otherwise it would be better than Access and assuming it fits the other DB/OS combination requirements I noted in the links above.

Unless something has changed, the open-source Apache Tomcat Server itself does not support "Load Balancing" and so I don't think you can "spread the CPU load". Although I am not that network savvy, so a call to Adobe support (asking to be escalated for Rh Server-specific assistance) to verify this would be a good idea. That said, I know organizations that have set up "fault tolerance" configurations to their satisfaction (but can't be more specific than that.)

Thanks

John Daigle

Adobe Certified RoboHelp and Captivate Instructor

Evergreen, Colorado

303-670-8955

www.showmethedemo.com

I've a couple RH Server questions:

Supposing RH Server's database fails, or at least it's connection to the database fails. What would be the consequences. That is, would RH Server crash and not serve up anything. Or, would it simply be that reports are no longer accessible, etc.

Has anyone used RH Server (installed on a Win 7 system) connected to a SQL Server Express instance (installed on another Win 7 system to spread CPU load).

My IT Manager is very leery of the free database option (for performance/reliability reasons), but there's no way we're going to spend almost 20K$ on SQL Server or Oracle DB. So, I'd like to allay his concerns about the SQL Service Express option.

Thanks in advance.

-Kurt

The problem you may have is that the JavaDocs may have scripting or code that RH does not understand. I had a similar scenario several years ago abd I was able to get a workable solution by assigning a style sheet and doing some find and replace operations. It may require some testing, but once you have it sorted it would be easy enough.

This would save you time and reduce the scope for publishing to the wrong location.

I'm wondering if a RH project can be made part of 2 or more project groups. I'm interested in having the content of a project appear in more than one "search domain" (RHS virtual Web site -- I've forgotten the term for this.)

Thanks!

-Kurt
