Try uploading it to SCORM cloud. If it works there, then the package is not corrupted.

Perhaps the size is too large.

Trying to upload my zip file of a Captivate 8 Video & Quiz SCORM package into Moodle, but it won't upload. After some checking, Moodle says they think it is a 'corrupted SCORM' file. Would appreciate your assistance; been working on this for several days. Thanks.

It is the text that has to appear (Feedback that name is empty) when the TEB remained empty. You have to create the text (caption or shape) and make it initially invisible in its Properties, by clicking on the red eye icon top left.

Ok, I got everything you said but under Actions you have Show (I got that part) but what is NameIncorrect. Is that another varialble I have to create. When I typed it in I do not get a green check mark.

You used the old variable names, now it is cpCmndGotoFrame and cpInfoCurrentFrame. That expression will rewind the playhead one frame back, so that it gets again in the active portion of the TEB to allow the user to enter data. I invented a word for that kind of navigation: micro-navigation. See: Micro-Navigation in Adobe Captivate - Captivate blog

v_name is the variable associated with the TEB. You have to create v_null as well but leave it empty. Because Captivate doesn't allow to enter strings, you cannot use "" which would be the case in a programming language if you wanted to indicate an empty text. If you define a variable v_null that has no value, it is considered as an empty text.

Ok, thank you again. I am still a little hung up on the Null value issue. If my TEB is left blank and the submit button is hit, I do not want people to advance to the quiz slides. There name has to be entered before they can advance. Does the blog you wrote "Where is Null" deal with that percise issue? I tried using the actions you wrote and nothing worked.

v_name I know should be the my variable name and v_null should I write it like that or the name of my variable followed by _null? In the actions when I put in Show and then type in NameIncorrect I do not get the green square on the left.

I am sorry just a little confused on how to correctly get this to work.

No, for that reason I never enter a default value but put a text container to ask the user to enter their name (or add a VO)

Hi Lieve,

Thank you for that suggestion. Now in my TEB I have a default value (Enter Your Full Name). Is there a way to clear default value when the person clicks into the TEB to enter there name? At this point you would have to manually delete the default value before entering your name.

Never use the playbar unless you are prepared to allow total control by the user: they can even just scrub the progress bar till the end and not watch anything! Personally I almost never use it, also because for non-linear courses playbar is just confusing, same with branching scenarios.

At least you'll have to hide the playbar for this slide (if you want that control on the other slides), there is a simple Hide Playbar command in the list. And provide a custom Next button or have the action 'Go to Next Slide' triggered by the conditional action if the TEB is not blank.

Thank you but does this somehow prevent you from simply clicking the forward button on the taskbar if the name field is left blank and advancing to the next slide? If the name field is blank I want the forward button to not advance you to the next slide.

Lilybiri, I have one more question for you. Before the quiz starts I have a slide where you enter your name and hit the Start Exam button. How do I set that page so that you cannot click the forward button on the task bar unless you enter your name and click on the Start Exam button?

The way it is now if someone arrives on the page just before they start the exam and click on the forward button they go to the next slide Quiz question 1 without submitting their name.

CP 8 Unknown Error on reporting setting Inernal Server

I have the quiz preferences set to Internal Server. I have PHP installed and running on my web server running IIS 6. The CP index.html file is on the root directory. When the results page of the quiz appears a popup box displays asking for Student Name and Student Email ID. Once this information is entered the popup box comes back with the text "Unknown Error" displayed and an OK button. The data is written to the server but I don't want this error message to appear.

Does anyone know how to prevent this error? Or even better I would like to code my own script where when the student clicks the submit button the information is posted without any intervention from the users (no popup).

I have been scouring the web only to see that alot of other people don't like the popup window that Adobe has developed but have yet to find how anyone has written their own script to do the posting.

Any advise or suggestions are greatly appricated.

You can use the system variable cpQuizInfoAttempts. I suppose the knowledge questions are all 'before' the the really graded questions? If not, let me know.

The system variable will be set to 2 when the user clicks the Retake button on the score slide. A conditional action On Enter for the first knowledge question slide will do the trick:

If cpQuizInfoAttempts is greater than 1

Hello,

I have a quiz set consisting of 11 graded questions with 0 points for each question (these are questions 1-11) and 10 graded questions with a point for each question(these are questions 12-22). If a user does not pass I want them to be able to retake the test by clicking a button that will reset the test and take them to the first question that they get a point which is question 12 (I want to skip the first 11 non-points questions).

It would have been easier if you told which version you are using. If it is CP8, you have to edit the 'Object Actions' which is strangely on the Format tab of the D&D panel. Indicate there for each target object which drag source will be accepted like in example screen shot. The target is a shape with the form of the country, only the correct text is accepted, when another text is dragged it will go back to its original position.

I just posted this to advanced topics but I now realize I should have posted it here...

I'm getting great answers here, so....

I've created a drag and drop in which student drags three different types of fractions into the correct drop targets.

I've checked 'send drag source to original position but the drag object stays wherever it is put. I would like it to pop right back immediately if dragged to the incorrect drop target.

Is there something else to be done to make the drag source pop right back to its original position immediately if not dropped into the correct drop target?

Yes, I should be able to muddle through... my background is Flash/Actionscript so coding not the issue, just understanding how to go about doing it in Captivate

I have been asked to display the individual question results of a quiz on a separate slide once the quiz has been completed (in addition to displaying the usual results page).

I will need to list the numbers 1 to 10 in this case, with a tick or cross to indicate which questions were answered correctly/incorrectly. Is this possible in Captivate 8?

Hello,

I installed a wamp server on my computer and did all the steps for the internal server reporting to take place.

And it worked brilliantly.

But then it stopped working after 4 or 5 attempts. Meaning, the xml files in the course folder wouldn't get created.

I built another test learning object and it worked again.. and then it stopped working again.

I'm really confused about what prevents the xml files from being generated by the LO. Looked up inside the CPM.JS but it's a bit too messy for me.

Has anyone got this problem, and solved it?

2 things I do which might have an impact on the result:

- I fill in the value of cpQuizInfoStudentID and cpQuizInfoStudentName before the final form, either from inside the LO itself or via the url (http://localhost/myLOfolder/index.html?cpQuizInfoStudentID=tatata&cpQuizInfoStudentName=ta tata)

But as I said before it did work for some time in both cases.

- I open the LOs with several different browsers and OS (my comp is windows but I connect mobile devices to the server, running on android, and I use chrome)

The xml file did get generate when the LO was open on the tablet once, but stopped working soon after.

Would be great to hear from people who have got some experience with this internal server reporting or from the adobe staff!

I also had this problem, and I did the following things to get rid of the popup:

A pop up is still there (to say that the results have been posted) but the user only has to click ok to get rid of it, and the results are sent anyway, even if not clicked.

Thank you for your response. No. I didn't do anything like that. I figured that I should probably divide this into 2 parts and aggregate them. That was going to work, but I checked with one of our other users in TX. He told me that what they always do is to divide up the presentations into 2 parts. They don't aggregate them, but instead, let the LMS take care of going from the learning module (with the Knowledge Check questions) to the Assessment Module. Once you exit from the learning module, you immediately go into the assessment.

Captivate 7 doesn't really allow for this type of test without aggregation or an LMS. You can have a pre-test, but it expects those questions to come at the beginning of the course, not to be interspersed throughout the course. I also found that using the Question Pools gave me more flexibility in moving Knowledge Check questions around using the Filmstrip.

The other interesting thing was that the TX expert told me to remove the Accessibility Feature because, apparently, it causes other parts of Captivate not to work. I found that to be strange.

If you want separate quizzes and scores for each course unit, then each unit of your course needs to be built in a separate Captivate project file. After publishing, then you bundle them together using the Multi-SCORM Packaging tool that comes with Captivate. Your LMS should display each unit with it's own status and score.

Looking over the Quizzing communityI realize this is a standing question with complex programming required to achieve intermediate quiz results. One might imagine that this is something many e-learning educators would require.

I've been a classroom high school teacher for many years. It is always necessary for the teacher to know what's going on in the classroom at any time, specifically whether learning is being achieved.

Captivate is adequate at most things and it is definitely cost effective, particularly for small town educators and compared to the competition which is some five times more expensive.

Perhaps the Cp group could focus on the quizzing aspect for a future release?

Still hoping there is some hope for my question.

That entire section is gone from the properties, as described in my post. It is not collapsed at all. It is not there. I created a new quiz project and compared both projects to find out that that section of "Review Feedback Messages" is missing. That's why I'm posting here to search for a possible solution for this issue. It's very likely a bug or a corruption in the file. I'm not able to edit those pass/fail messages after the project has already been created.

Any idea?

You can select the Submit button on a question slide and set the ENTER key as its shortcut key. That will allow the learner to Submit the question slide by hitting the ENTER key.

Captivate does not give you the ability to configure Short Answer question slides so as to place the cursor in the text field when the question slide enters the timeline.

You cannot add standard slides to a Question Pool. Only actual question slides can be randomised this way. Captivate also does not provide any default way with Advanced Actions to randomise navigation to a subset of standard slides. There may be a way to do randomisation of slide navigation with JavaScript, but I cannot help you with that.

Hi,

I am creating a series of short answer questions in a quiz using a question pool as I want random questions each time for the learner. How do you set the focus of the slide to be the text entry box (where the cursor is so they can start typing) on a question slide? I also want them to be able to submit the question by pressing Enter, not clicking Submit. I know how to do this using a text entry box on a standard slide but as I want to be able to get the user to be given random questions I need it to be in a question pool. Can anyone help me with how to do this?

Either: set focus of a text entry box and have onkeyenter for the submit button

Or: replicate a question pool using standard slides so I can have random questions generated for the users (say 5 questions picked randomly from a set of 10).

Edited to add: I am happy to use advanced actions and java scripts etc if need be

The Force Module Sequence button causes Captivate to set code in the main imsmanifest.xml file of the package that is supposed to force the LMS to only allow the learner to select and view the modules in the order listed. So the LMS is supposed to see this code and prevent the learner from using the TOC to jump to module 2 or 3 untill AFTER completing module 1. The learner must start at the top of the TOC list of links and work their way down. If this property is not set, the learner could theoretically click any link on the TOC and do the modules in any order.

If you select the Quiz Review area and then look on the Properties tab, do you NOT see an accordion called Review Feedback Messages? Is it perhaps collapsed and that's why you cannot see the options to configure pass and fail messages?

That should be a function of your LMS. Once the individual lessons (modules, whatever) are uploaded to your LMS, the LMS should allow you to order those as you want.

In all cases I've seen, the multi-SCO Packager just bundles SCOs into one to make it easier to upload. Once in the LMS, it sees there's more than one SCO...so then you set those up per course/lesson, as you probably would do if you uploaded them individually...

Hi,

I know this thread is four years old but I'm still stuck using Captivate 5.0. I designed a quiz and was able to modify the Review Area for the very last slide - the slide that displays the information about quiz results. I then copied this quiz project and modified from that project. However, I am unable to modify the new project for the review area. When I click the Review Area for the last slide, there are no properties that show pass or fail messages. What I get is Review Area Style, Character, and Position & Size. The section of "Review Feedback Messages" is missing. I found out about that by starting a new project with quiz questions.

I tried to access the link provided by Lilybiri but it's unavailable. Is there a way to edit the pass and fail messages? Or is my option limited to recreating the whole project just for the messages?
