Not really an answer, but the big problem IMO is that PPT, although a presentation tool that will use screens (or projection systems) defines a project in printing units (inches or cm) which is totally crazy. Captivate is a bit more normal for that aspect, it uses pixels to define the size. And screens, devices no longer have all 72ppi. Sorry for the ranting...already commented that way when PPT first appeared (used better applications like Freelance Graphics for presentation, they are now killed by PPT). Contrary to Adobe, MS never listens to comments, reported several bugs in MS Project as well, they are still present in the latest version 15years later.

Rick will not be astonished that I'm popping in to explain that shape buttons can be configured totally within Captivate, no need to create images in another application.

In CP8: you can define states for each shape in the Object Style Manager, same states as for all buttons in all Adobe applications that have that type of object. There is a Normal, Rollover and Down state. For an individual button you can also specify those states in the Properties panel, Style tab (see screenshot)

If you want a 'disabled' button, just insert the shape as it is from that point on, and don't use it as a button at that moment.

Position panel is only to be used for responsive projects, has no sense for traditional projects. I am pretty sure.

Position and size for objects in normal projects are to be found in the Options tab of the Properties panel, not in the Position panel.

Same issue here. Using CP 8 on Windows 7. I tried copying the slides into a new project and get the same random disappearing caption issue.

Hi there

I would begin by inspecting the PowerPoint to ensure there are no settings for advancing the slides on a click or other actions that would cause this.

During the import process from PowerPoint, Captivate actually converts each of the PowerPoint slides to a Flash SWF and configures the SWF as the slide background. I believe if you have clicks in the PowerPoint, they end up in Captivate, but are embedded in the SWF.

Position Panel--No Data--Drop Down Grayed

Version: Captivate 8.

This morning my Position Panel shows blank. Yesterday it functioned well. I worked with position properties in both responsive and traditional projects yesterday afternoon. Currently the Window drop down shows "Position Properties" as gray and unavailable (although checked and the tab visible on the right). No information shows in the Position panel for all project types EXCEPT Responsive Projects. The position panel functions well for new and existing responsive projects.

Actions:

Closed and reopened Cp.

Cleared the project cache and restarted my computer

Opened new and existing non-responsive type projects to test for availability.

Searched Preferences with projects open and with no project open. I cannot find an option controlling the Position Properties function.

Any suggestions?

Hi there

There are some ways to do this. But none of them will work exactly as they do in Storyline, because Storyline is a different product and operates differently.

One thing you might try would be to just insert the "down" version of the button image from the gallery so it's just sitting in front of the button and time it to appear when you want to see the down state.

But that would just show the button as if it had been pressed. If you really wanted the down state but still have the button operable with the mouseovers tp see other states as you mouse over and whatnot, you would need to make copies of the images and use different names for the new copies. Then just ensure you named the current "down" image, the "up" image and so on.

I am tasked with transferring quite a number of PPT presentations into C8. I have come across a few 'bugs' and am trying to solve them, one by one.

Today's issue: slides from PPT are not transfering into C8 with the correct screen resolution. The first thing I noticed about my slide transfer was that the titles in my PPT slides are not in the same position when transfered over into C8, and the font is pixilated. Even when I go into PPT and make changes, save those changes and then update the file in C8, I still have a problem with the titles not being in the correct spot. I know they are off because the titles appear within a band of silver, with a thick, brown bar above them in PPT. In C8, the titles are squished into the brown bar with too much space left over in the silver band -

This is using the default 10" x 7.5" aspect ratio in PPT, and the pixel equivalent in C8 of 720x540. The font is BANK GOTHIC.

(BTW: I found a chart here - I Came, I Saw, I Learned...: PowerPoint: Changing Slide Sizes for Importing into Captivate which is not correct. For instance, this chart suggests a slide resolution of 10.5" x 7" would transfer over into C8 as1008 px x 672px. This size is incorrect; it still produces incorrect slide resolution. And there is no way to use this chart for custom slide sizes).

When I changed the font (to CENTURY GOTHIC), I did get a better result in the position of my title:

However, I am still experiencing the pixilation of the font. I closed this project out of C8 without saving and then re-transfered the files. This time, I went with the C8 default resolution of 960x720 - this translates in Powerpoint to 13.333" x 10". NOT the same slide setting I have in PPT, which is 10" x 7.5" however, this looks much better, with less pixilation of the font within the work area. When I publish it out, the pixilation goes away and the font is smooth again.

My conclusion: some fonts do not transfer well into C8, and screen resolutions differ from PPT, Photoshop and C8. If you are having difficulties getting your PPT slides to look the same in C8, it could be your font is not transfering well, or it could be your screen resolution.

I imported a PowerPoint 2010 file into Captivate 8. When importing, I selected "Automatically" for advancing. When the slides are imported, you can click the left and right side of the screen and advance the slides. This is immediate right after importing...I haven't done any editing to the slides yet. In looking at the Timeline...there are no click box objects on these slides at all. How do I remove these extra clicks?

Got many queries in between, solved many myself, but still have few.

I tried to Record my voice and stuck with many problems. First was a good microphone. Atlast I purchased Sennheiser Headset with Mic.

Recording ok, but still many problems like background sounds toooo much in my locality. used cleaner but still not comfortable. Then my personal problem since my voice is not that much clear.

I found speech management Text-To-Speech and downloaded neospeech for captivate 8. Installed and completed my first project.

I am using Paul and James voice. Also I have downloaded Ivona's Raveena (Indian Voice), Amy (British Voice) and Sally (American Voice).

Combination is wonderful. But i get problem.

Paul and James speak very fast whereas Amy speak very slow.

I wanted to change the settings but don't know how to change. I opened Windows Text-to-speech settings and found Ivona voices there but Neospeech voices is not there. I think they are made only for captivate.

I searched installation directory of Neo Speech and opened their VTeditor_Eng [ C:\Program Files\Adobe Captivate Voices 8\VT\James\M16\bin ]. Found settings there which include change of pitch, volume, speed, etc. but these changes doesn't effect in captivate.

Last thing, anyone has any idea about good TTS Indian Voice. Since I live in India, am looking for Indian Pronounciation.

Any help / suggestions will be highly appreciated.

If I have a button that I want to be down towards the end of the slide, how would I accomplish this? In Storyline, there are triggers that can change the state of button X to hidden/disabled/normal etc. How do Captivate 8 button states work?

Hi at all!

I have one issue really strange.

I have tried to download Adobe Captivate 8 on Adobe's website.

But when I click on the button "install now" suddetly one window appairs and it ask me

the path of the computer for to save my file.

When I choose a path of my computer other window appairs and it tell me

"It's impossible save a file".

I don't understand, I have tried to change a path but nothing It doesn't work.

I hope that somebody help me

when importing a MP4 video file into my Captivate V.8.0.0.145 project, the audio part of the video plays faster than the pictures. (i.e. there is a delay between the audio and the picture) -

the video plays perfectly normal outside of Captivate.

Do you have any suggestions?

The tutorial is for a "how to use catalog searching" instruction in an undergraduate library session. We use boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to combine search terms, ex. to search for books about the sleeping habits of college students, I would enter "college students AND sleep." Because "college students" is a multi-word phrase to describe one concept, I need to put quotation marks around the phrase to prevent the catalog from searching for the individual words separately, so the most correct search becomes ["college students" AND sleep] with quotation marks around only "college students," a user-typed "AND," and the word "sleep" (no q-marks).

A colleague of mine worked out a pretty cool (if complicated) solution that I'll share if anyone is interested. Since the q-marks where the problem, we've set it up so that the TEB validates the response for the search string with q-marks around "college students." If they enter it correctly, the tutorial jumps to the corresponding slide. The attempt # is set to 1, and if the user fails to enter the validated phrase (they misspell or use one of the other response options) then the TEB is set to run an Advanced Actions Script in which the other two options are scripted in IF/THEN statements that cause, when the term is entered correctly, the tutorial to jump to their corresponding slides. We've created another tab of IF/THEN statements that say that if the response is NOT equal to one of these response options, then the slide restarts (technically the slide "jumps" back to itself and starts over) and the user gets another chance to start the cycle over again.

I know this is confusing (I had a really hard time explaining it in words), so if anyone is interested I could make a Jing video when I have some time.

I was using a mac with Safari. My solution which worked for me was to uninstall Captivate 8 and then re-download the Captivate 8 trial again using Chrome this time instead of Safari. it worked upon an install of the new package.

IInstead of entering the search string directly into the conditional action as you have done, I would suggest having them set up in separate user variables that you compare in the condition. Sometimes this will get around captivate's normal tendency to freak out when if sees a punctuation mark in the dialog. Worth a try.

Rollover captions and rollover images are not classed as 'interactive' objects in Captivate like buttons are because they do not have Success an Failure conditions. Neither do rollover slidelets. So that may be the reason they don't show up in the tab order.

Click Boxes are intended to be invisible by design. So having them highlighted would defeat their design to some extent. They were not specifically designed with accessibility in mind. You might be better off replacing them with transparent button objects.

Each TEB can have only one associated variable, in your case I suppose this will be searchterm.

You can combine conditions, by putting them on different lines. The way you created that statement is not correct. What did you want to check? Is it either college students OR sleep? Or is it necessary that the entered value for the TEB has both words? In the first case the condition part IF should be:

searchterm contains "college students" OR the OR will automatically appear when you choose the option 'Any of the conditions true"; don't enter the quotation marks, they will automatically appear because two words

searchterm contains sleep

For the second scenario (both) you have to choose the option "All conditions are true'

Beware:

you cannot exclude case sensitivity in this case (which is possible when validating the TEB), if you expect some users to use capitals, you'll need to add statements (for OR) or even decisions (for AND)
what has to happen if the condition doesn't result in TRUE?

Those activities (an action is something totally different, will be triggered by an event) normally will be on separate slides: the typing of the text, the click on a list etc. Sorry, will leave this to someone else because I don't understand your question at all.

Turns out you were right; I created a dummy user as an Active Directory admin, and from their profile they get no problem, only normal users do (I thought I tested that before, but anyway..)

It's kind of strange because I never thought users had browsing restrictions, only restrictions to system settings (e.g. installing apps). Sometimes they also get a message that says "no connection". Weird.

Retake Quiz results not updated by LMS

Does Captivate 7 send out a score update every time a test is taken (through a SCORM 1.2 LMS server)? I have the following situation

Quiz failed on first attempt
As designed, module presented trainee with retake offer.
Trainee passes quiz
LMS score does not update

What is the likely issue and how can I check for the score information that is being communicated to the LMS? I am not the LMS admin so I don't have access to the LMS.

Captivate 7 HTML5 Results Summary

I am having a strange issue when I publish to both HTML5 and Flash where the Results slide shows nothing other that the titles of the field and not the results. This only happens in the HTML5 version. seems to work fine with flash. For and example we have it set up for the Score, Max Score and Accuracy to display on the results slide. those fields show up. the actual score, max-score and percent do not. again only in the html5 version. Anyone have issues with this?

I am using the latest patch for Captivate 7.0.1.237

All text is set to white and shows up normally in the flash version. Just not on the Android, any browser.

Exporting slides to Microsoft Word

Hello!

I created slides in Adobe Captivate 8 and want to export it to MS Word.

I selected File - Print, than saved it in MS Word document.

But the quality of this slides is not very good: elements of every slide are blurred.

I have 2 questions:

How I can automatically repaint the entire contents of the slide in black and white?
Are there another ways to export contents of slide to MS Word?

Sure, Here you go! "searchterm" is the variable, ["college students" AND sleep] is the value that if entered will cause the tutorial to jump to slide 4 "quotes." I need to be able to have students enter "college students" with quotes around it and have it jump to slide 4.

No worries, thank you for motivating me to find the answers and of course for the whole set up with variables.

I did another simplest project in which I managed to get rid of the issue with MS.

It is basically simple actions - but good for beginners like myself.

In practical terms, the idea for Elapsed time is a very good solution for projects where you need to benchmark the time of the learner to an expert or proficient user.

For instance, how fast would it take the learner to do a procedure.

About the issue with MS, what I did - I converted the MS to S ONLY at the end by dividing the final variable on 1000. Nothing else was converred from MS to seconds. This solved it.

I will later also use the conversion to RealMin from your work to do it so it displays in minutes when the time is more than 60 seconds

It is not getting there by using CTRL-E, but when you drag manually the end of the object timeline to the end of the slide timeline. Get rid of it ASAP, you can either use a shortcut (see Tiny Timeline Tidbits - Captivate blog) or manually, and then use CTRL-E. Dragging on the Timeline can have issues, I agree. Why do you drag? Is it to change the stack order? There is an Alignment toolbar (use Window menu) that has also Arrange buttons.

I did see your questions in the other thread (beware: I'm stalking you). You cannot convert a responsive project to a normal or vice-versa. You can reuse the assets that are in the library. What you'll never see in the Adobe videos is that all objects have styles for the 3 breakpoint views. When I'm training I always start explaining the Object Style Manager, Themes (with all their components), Preferences and the Timeline, but I seem to be the only trainer working that way.

You should use only web fonts (they appear in a group at the top) for responsive projects. Captivate doesn't embed fonts, that is the reason. For real preview only use Preview in Browser.
