The default Downloads folder on the computer, e.g.

C:\Users\fraser\Downloads (on Windows)

/Users/fraser/Downloads (on Mac)

This is the same as the default downloads folder for most browsers.

Once your product is published, users can either get it by using the Adobe Exchange Panel, or via the Adobe Add-ons website (https://creative.adobe.com/addons) which requires users to have the Creative Cloud desktop app installed.

In both cases, your ZIP file will be copied to the user's downloads folder when they click to install it via the Panel or Add-ons website.

Thanks for the feedback about manual downloading of files - this is something which we are currently working on and will be made available in due course.

Hi,

I see there's no easy way to install Plug In's for After Effects until you add support for it in Extension Manager.

So I uploaded a new product to adobe exchange.

It's a ZIP file with OS X and Windows Plugin + PDF with Installation Instructions.

Now, what happens when a user chose install in the new Adobe Exchange?

Where will he be able to access the ZIP file?

I think you should allow a manual download of the files in addition to the automate method.

Hi Royi A,

Ah - yes, you're right; there are no tokens for After Effects because Extension Manager doesn't currently support After Effects. If you want to install files to After Effects-specific paths, you will need to enter the full paths in your MXI file, or perhaps make use of other tokens to get the files to go where you want.

Perhaps other After Effects developers or someone on the Extension Manager forum (Extension Manager) would be able to provide more advice about how best to do this.

(If you are planning to distribute your content via Adobe Exchange/Creative Cloud Add-ons, you have the option of uploading a zip file at www.adobeexchange.com, which is simply copied to the user's Downloads folder upon installation of your product).

In answer to your other question, forward slashes should be used for both Mac and Windows paths in MXI files.

We want to let users download and then install via Extension Manager if for some reason they are having install issues using the Creative Cloud app. Also it means we could support CS6 users without requiring the Adobe Exchange Panel. So yes we are working on this and we hope to release it within the next couple of months.

- Jonathan: Do you mean for URL's that we currently require the user to copy and paste or clicking on a product to make it a new tab. If it's the latter we want to fix it and a bug has been raised, if it's the former yes I think we will but we want to roll it out as part of new preview capabilities for example it would be nice to preview a Muse template or watch a video inline in an Add-ons page. Jonathan: Not sure how you are expecting to see real metrics without usage. You will see what we track without any data but as Add-ons is a website we are currently looking at adding hooks using Omniture to be able to get much more detailed information about users hitting your product details page and we want to provide that kind of information in the future. I don't have a timeframe on that as we are only just starting the work but I would expect detailed metrics this year.

And "Add-ons" isn't here yet, so nothing to see.

I also notice you didn't address most of the questions. As the product manager, I'm sure you must have some idea what you WANT to do, even if it won't all get rolled out. I'm taking a stab at answering the questions myself. Feel free to correct my answers.

Licensing enforcement (is there any?)
PRESUMED: No enforcement. Trivial, or nearly trivial for a user to send or copy his components to another user - depends on the delivered content.
Jonathan: Correct we do not have DRM which is what this is really about. We are looking at possibilities to do enforcement using Creative Cloud desktop app install workflows however DRM in this instance is proving to be far more difficult than expected. For example a product like Photoshop requires a serial number and it can make calls to ensure the serial number is correct and so on. However, when the product is say a JPEG file where and why would you enter a serial number, how would the DRM be implemented, the JPED would probably need to phone home regularly. It's tricky. For any DRM a product has in Add-ons that can continue to be used.
Upgrades... Can I publish an "upgrade" to a product and charge an incremental fee more?
PRESUMED: No way to provide incremental fee upgrades. Same product updates are delivered for free. Producer can provide a new Product (which may be an upgrade). No mechanism for purchaser to get a discount in this case. Add Ons will NOT support pre-requisites (e.g. can't insure that if purchaser buys P3, that she already has P2 and/or P1).
Jonathan: Currently we do not support "upgrades" to products. This I see as more a matter of timing, upgrades require the user to already have bought a previous version on Add-ons. So once lots of people have made purchases I think upgrades could make more sense. Of course the user would need to be signed in for them to see upgrade pricing but it feels like something that would be fairly easy to do, it's just a matter of timing. We do now support subscriptions and lots of producers are now offering subscriptions rather than upgrade pricing.
What information does the producer get about the purchaser? Email? Name? Location? Nothing?
PRESUMED: Nothing about purchaser is provided. There is no way to know if someone who contacts the producer is in fact a legitimate purchaser. No way to engage purchasers since no data about them is provided.
Jonathan: We have privacy protection laws to adhere to. However, in the case of a customer issue we ask the user to contact the producer first to resolve the issue if they contact Adobe we like to get the producer involved and in those cases it absolutely makes sense and we do share the customer's email address so you as a producer know they are a legitimate customer. Additionally, if your product lets users provide their contact details that is absolutely fine for them to do that and for you to ask the customer within your product.

I hope that helps. We are seeing significant traffic increases since launch and look out for integration of Add-ons and linking to the Add-ons website in forthcoming major CC app updates like Photoshop.

I just need it both on PS and AE.

By the way, does it understand `\` according to the operation system?

Namely if I write:

$pluginsfolder\MyFolder\

Will it adjust the slash direction according to the OS?

Please see here for the full list of path tokens which can be used, e.g. $plugin:

Path tokens

Certain tokens will be treated differently on Windows and Mac, e.g. if the destination folder is found somewhere different on those two platforms - but it is not currently possible in Exchange Packager to specify a token which will only be used on one platform. This is a feature which we are looking to make available in the online version of Exchange Packager very soon.

Until then, if you need this level of granularity with your installation paths, you should build your own MXI file by following the documentation here:

Hello,

I want to create a ZXP for easy install for customers.

I'm building Photoshop and After Effects Plug In's.

How can I configure Exchange Packager to target a sub folder in AE / Photoshop Plug In folder (Create it if it doesn't exist) and be compatible with the user OS and choice of installation folder?

I can see there are key folders for brushes, actions etc...

Is there $PlugIN ?

The best way to see what stats we provide is to create a product. We just released the ability to package things like scripts online when submitting your product.

Unfortunately I've learned from experience that "soon" is a word that when used by Adobe means "4 months or more from now". For example the "Fonts feature in Creative Cloud coming soon" took 4+ months even though it was as touted as a selling feature for joining Creative Cloud. File Sync (Adobe Drive) took 6+ months to show up.

Stated another way: would a savvy user have trouble "stealing" Add on content from another user or system?

My presumptions are based on the "least cost" route I would expect Adobe to take to provide the features as well as the features in similar markets (e.g. Apple App Store).

Photoshop CS6 doesn't appear in Extension Manager CS6

Yes the prerelease is still on, just like there is still a prerelease program for mature products like Photoshop and Illustrator. That does not mean that we have not launched things. Even once the Add-ons website is launched we will still have a prerelease so that when required we can share NDA information or let you test things early. Adobe Exchange Panel is very much released and integrated into various CC apps but as mentioned in other discussions with you, it's not necessarily the perfect vehicle for maximum exposure. Add-ons will have much more exposure and be much more visible in-app. In the next major release of the CC desktop apps you will find links to Add-ons within 10 apps including 2 places with links in Photoshop. We plan to have even more links where it makes sense in the future.

In terms of the metrics, we provide total users, total downloads, downloads per version and so on and with Add-ons user automatically get your updates and can even acquire products on their phone or tablet and have them automatically install back on their computer. The best way to see what stats we provide is to create a product. We just released the ability to package things like scripts online when submitting your product.

Give it a try. Oh and we plan to release Add-on later this month all being well. Look out for an a preview event invite via this prerelease soon.

Is there a tentative date when this thing will no longer be "pre-release"? Presumably then you'll start charging $249 a year (or is that already happening?)

It's a bit like a Creative Cloud subscription... you never know WHAT Adobe is going to charge when a renewal comes due until it's actually due. All you really know is that it's going to cost more money!

Meanwhile, I asked a number of questions about what is being provided to participants in the program. Copying here from where I originally posted them.

Where is the correct place to discuss the "Add-on-Exchange thingy"? Nothing leaps out at me in the pull down on this page:

I want to know what this eventual offering may include. The FAQ isn't clear about how any of the following work:

Hi Alan,

This at least suggests that the version you attempted to install was not the same version that I have on my machine. Can you please go to the folder

/Users/Alan Cameron/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Extension\ Manager\ CC/Temp/

and check to see whether there is any file at all starting with com.AdobePaperTexturePro?

If so, can you try again with the commands with my previous post (but using this correct filename)?

P.S. Your screenshot looks like the folder you would find in /Library/Application support; not ~/Library/Application Support (note the tilde at the start - this is a hidden folder inside your user's home folder). Can you try again using Go -> Go to Folder in Finder, if you haven't done so already?

That is quite strange indeed.

Can you please try the following steps, and let me know the outcome?

In terminal, check the result of this command:
- ls ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Extension\ Manager\ CC/Temp/ | grep AdobePaper
If a ZXP file such as com.AdobePaperTexturePro_2.0.2_4ecbd5.zxp exists,
- In terminal:
  - cp ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Extension\ Manager\ CC/Temp/com.AdobePaperTexturePro_2.0.2_4ecbd5.zxp ~/Desktop
- Uninstall Adobe Paper Textures Pro in Extension Manager CC (with Photoshop closed)
- In terminal:
  - /Applications/Adobe\ Extension\ Manager\ CC/Adobe\ Extension\ Manager\ CC.app/Contents/MacOS/ExManCmd --install ~/Desktop/com.AdobePaperTexturePro_2.0.2_4ecbd5.zxp

It would also be good if you could let me know the exact name and size of the AdobePaperTexturePro_....zxp file that is copied to your Desktop.

Sorry Fraser... no joy, carried out yor instructions & still no Log file generated?.... see my screen shot, with relavent file locations & showng PS CC exhange manager & extension manager saying extensions are insatlled but not showing in pull down menu..

Hi Alan,

Yes - it would probably be easiest to reboot after having created those files to enable logging. You can create those files by renaming a blank text file, or you can use the Terminal with the following commands:

sudo touch ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Extension\ Manager\ CC/Log/ExManCoreLibLog.YES
sudo touch /Applications/Adobe\ Extension\ Manager\ CC/Adobe\ Extension\ Manager\ CC.app/Contents/MacOS/ExManLog.YES

Certainly the fact that the folders are missing from the Panels folder suggests that something has gone wrong during the installation, rather than this being a problem with Photoshop itself. These log files should tell us what went wrong.

the /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC/Plug-ins/Panels folder exists but is empty?

I completed the other instructions as requested, re-started PS CC & Extension manager CC, but no log file is produced.... is reboot required?

I'm also assuming to create ExManCoreLibLog.YES & ExManLog.YES, I just rename a blank txt file?

I've just tried installing those particular products with that version of Photoshop, and this is where they end up.

If the folders aren't there, could you please enable logging as follows and send me the log files at fgregor at adobe dot com?

Create a file called 'ExManCoreLibLog.YES' and place it in the following location:

/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CC/Log/ExManCoreLibLog.YES

Then create a file named 'ExManLog.YES' and place it at:

/Applications/Adobe Extension Manager CC/Adobe Extension Manager CC.app/Contents/MacOS/ExManLog.YES

Both log files are generated and saved in the following location:

/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CC/Log

Note I have found the missing associated XMP files within:

Can you please check whether the products you've installed are listed in Extension Manager CC or Extension Manager CS6?

If they are listed in Extension Manager CC, but they are not appearing in Photoshop CC, can you please tell me the exact version of Photoshop you're using, and check whether folders corresponding to the missing extensions can be found in either of these locations? [In Finder, use Go -> Go to Folder...]:

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEPServiceManager4/extensions
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEPServiceManager4/extensions

I have the latest photoshop CC installed, & extensions manager for CC. I cannot for the life of me understand why after installing Russell Brown's paper textures, & watercolor assistant extensions, they show installed in the exchange panel as installed, but not in the drop down window>extentions !

I have ran the extensions manager program & it says they are enabled! but no where to be seen with the PS CC window>extensions !

is this Adobe Exchange prerelease program still on?

or do we have now the paid subscription already?

I have singed in to the adobeexchange.com to upload my free Web

engine plugin for Adobre Lightroom, I have read the "Term and

conditions.." creating account and there was a statement that creating

Adobe Exchange Account costs nothing at first and one can submit

unlimited number of free plugins and two paid ones before the need to

upgrade his account to a paid one.

After submitting this agreement when I logged in to my account I see

there an info:

"Account: Level: Unlimited product submissions for $249 a year (FREE

during prerelease)."

I didn't want to sign in for any paid product.

There was no option to choose the product (Account - Level) during the

registration process, and there was no clear information about it.

Did I create a paid account by mistake?

If so how to cancel it immediately, I don't want to pay anything.

Hi Madeline,

That's great that you've been able to get your CC products to install properly this time - if not a bit frustrating that things still aren't quite working as expected.

I'm afraid the culprit could still be Norton Utilities or some strict firewall software - from time to time, software like this will block internet connections for software it doesn't recognise.

In Registry Editor, regedit.exe, could you please check whether either of these values exists and is set to 0?:

For 32-bit systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\AdobeOnlineDefault.
For 64-bit systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\AdobeOnlineDefault

Setting this value to 0 tells Adobe Extensions "do not connect to the Internet" - and setting it to 1 allows extensions to connect to the Internet. If you find that this is set to 0, can you try changing this value to 1, restarting your computer, and then opening the Exchange Panel again?

The good news is that there are big improvements coming very soon - http://www.adobeexchange.com/comingsoon

Regarding your Flash CS6 installation, it would be better to get support from the Flash team for this - but because this is the same error you were seeing for Photoshop CC updates it might be worthwhile carrying out the same steps for CS6 with the CS6 Cleaner tool.

I spoke too soon, now Adobe exchange panel gives me the following message

"Error in retrieving new products. Please check your internet connection and try again"

Needless to say my internet connection is fine and I have no problems going to any webpage including Adobe and this forum - I'm beginning to believe that this suite of products is far more trouble than it's worth.

Thank you for your help, I disabled norton utilities and went through the uninstall - install process and both photoshop and dreamweaver are fine now; However flash professional cs6 won't update and it's giving me the same U44M1P7 error message. I know this is not the forum for that but again I've been through all the processes for this error message without success. Any advise would be extremely helpful.

Thanks for providing this extra information - this is a big help. You can set the registry value back to how it was now, if you like (just setting LogLevel to 1), otherwise it won't do any harm to leave it at 6.

Yes, Norton Utilities sounds like the kind of thing which could play a role in this.

However in this case the problem does seem to be that you have an update which has gone wrong - particularly given that you're seeing that error code during updates to products which contain the component called CEP (also known as CSXS) - the "Common Extensiblity Platform" which is required for extensions such as the Adobe Exchange Panel. The log file you've pasted also states that "CSXS is not installed".

If possible, I would suggest temporarily disabling Norton Utilities, and then uninstalling your CC apps (Dreamweaver, Photoshop). If you also have CS6 installed, you can leave CS6 - there's no need to uninstall those. Then run the CC Cleaner Tool from here (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html), before reinstalling your CC apps.

At that point, please check whether C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEPServiceManager4 contains CEPServiceManager.exe - I expect that it will, and if it does then the problem should hopefully be resolved.

Sorry it's quite an inconvenient solution, but unfortunately because you seem to have had installation problems then the best thing to do would be to uninstall, clean, and then install afresh.

If you'd prefer, you can also email me your installation log files (fgregor at adobe dot com), found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers and C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\PDApp.log.

Thank you for your response, I was a bit nervous about messing with the registry files however here is the dreamweaver log data.

I also couldn't see Adobe CEP Service Manager running under the processes tab of task manager, now you mention it I wonder if Norton Utilities is blocking something, this runs on my computer automatically. And again I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Regarding trying to update with creative cloud - I can update Extension manager but don't seem able to update Photoshop or Flash, I get the following error - "Error Code: U44M1P7". Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for this extra information regarding the Exchange Panel not appearing. It's strange that the problem appears in both CC and CS6 - these use different processes and different installation directories for extensions and should be independent of each other.

A few questions -

Can you please look in Task Manager when Photoshop CC is running and see if there is a process listed called "Adobe CEP Service Manager"? Do you have any "system optimisation" or security software running which may be blocking processes that you haven't expressly permitted?

In Photoshop CC, can you see any other extensions listed in Window -> Extensions? Upon installation there should be other Extensions available, for example "Kuler" - can you see this in the dropdown? This will help us to work out whether this is a problem with Adobe Exchange specifically, or if it is an issue with all extensions in general.

If you can then turn on logging as follows, that would be very helpful:

In Registry Editor, regedit.exe:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Adobe>CSXS.4

Increase the LogLevel to 6. Then run Dreamweaver or Photoshop CC - Log files will be generated in: C:\Users\<username>\[AppData]\Local\Temp. If you are in Photoshop the log file will have the filename csxs4-PHSP.log, and for Dreamweaver it will be csxs4-DRWV.log. Please email these log files to me at fgregor at adobe dot com.

Upon searching the forums, there was another user who may have had the same problem as you (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1291469) - can you check whether C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEPServiceManager4 contains CEPServiceManager.exe?

Regarding the "glitchy" issues you mention - this forum is for Adobe Exchange, but if you can provide a bit more information about what is going wrong then we'll try to redirect your question to someone else who can help.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner and thank you for your reply, I'm running Dreamweaver CC, Photoshop CC, Fireworks CS6 and Flash Professional CS6. Non of them show the Exchange panel, I've also looked in the location suggested and AdobeExchange folder is there. I'm using extension manager CC.

In addition I'm also having problems updating Photoshop, Firework and Flash through Creative Cloud, I brought this problem before to a forum and followed all the instructions suggested for uninstalling CC and reinstalling it without any luck. I'm finding the monthly subscription fee too high a price to pay for a very glitchy suite of products, any useful help or support would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Can you tell me exactly what version of Dreamweaver you're using (Help -> About Dreamweaver), and tell me what's listed when you go to Window -> Extensions?

Just to confirm - when you say you can see it listed in Extension Manager, you mean Extension Manager CC rather than CS6?

Can you see the Exchange Panel in other products, such as Photoshop?

Can you also tell me whether or not you can see the following folder?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEPServiceManager4\extensions\AdobeExchange

I'd like to follow up on m y original posting.

I spoke with the author who told me there were problems caused by Adobe's software (and some are still unresolved) when software was to be moved from the older exchange to the new in-program exchange.

He sent me an installer to run manually. Everything is now fine regarding functionality. But I still don't see the software on my paid list so someone still has some work to do.

I've the same problem in PS CC x64 since the last update. There's no extensions working anymore. They don't load: Guideguide, CSSHAT and everything else... they are all up-to-date: Reinstalling didn't solve the problem.

I've joined CC and I'm using Dreamweaver, I've also tried to download and install Adobe Exchange panel without success - I can see it in extension manager but the panel doesn't appear in Dreamweaver. I'm beginning to regret ever signing up for CC as it appears to be very glitchy. Could someone help me with this please.

You must proceed to publish the product firstly, then straight away you will be able to make changes by clicking on the pencil icon for metadata changes.

The changes will then be submitted to the vetting team for approval and are normally approved and visible the same day.

Hi,

Apologies, it seems that there are no installation instructions provided for this product so can understand your confusion. The extension install items to the Flash components/ directory so I would expect them to be available in the Components panel inside Flash.

So that we can work out whether this is a problem with Extension Manager or Adobe Exchange, can you try closing Photoshop CC, then downloading the Adobe Exchange Panel (ZXP) from www.adobeexchange.com, then installing the ZXP file directly in Extension Manager without Photoshop CC open?

If this does not work, can you confirm whether other ZXP files can be successfully installed via Extension Manager?
