I think the helpx.adobe.com tutorials can potentially be very helpful, but I can't find the accompanying files that the trainer keeps referring to. Where are they??

Hello,

We are currently looking for ColdFusion training on the Administration side of ColdFusion. Does anyone know of a reputable training class that is face to face that we could look into. I researched a few Authorized Training Centers and did not find any classes that were scheduled.

Things we would like to see in the course is Installing CF, Upgrading CF, Securing the Server and overall troubleshooting of the ColdFusion application. The type of training we are looking for is not geared for the developer, but more toward the individuals that will be managing the server etc.

REST Support in CF 10 webinar

I signed up for the REST Support in CF 10 webinar that should have started at 8:00 AM PST today, June 18, 2013.

Was the webinar cancelled? If so, will you be running it again at some future date?

Well, it's an old post, but for people who search for the answer ,the answer is this. It's very simple and the poster almost had it. Except he had "excludeHeaderRow='false'". So this means, do NOT exclude headerrow. It should've read "exludeheaderrow='true'". This will only work if you have Coldfusion 9.01 or higher.

Now that CF 10 is out, I wish to go for the CF 9 exam. Do you get a discount-voucher if you are already certified in CF 8? If so, please kindly point me to the relevant information. I wrote to Adobe and Pearson VUE. Months have passed: no response.

I passed Coldfusion 8 Exam with 96% and attempted Coldfusion 9 Just 2% away from passing marks and preparing myself again. I studied Ben Forta's Web Application Cosntruction Kit Only First 2 Volumes, coldfusion_9_dev.pdf and Lynda.com video tutorials. Consentrate on <CFSCRIPT> and ORM.

I don't know about the attribute "excludeHeaderRow" . Please take look at following attributes.

Rows=Here you will provide the range of row. Like a value "3-15" decide read 3rd row to 15th row of the xls sheet. Now if we consider that header row is the first row and total no mof row is 20, if want to avoid the header row then just put "2-20" in rows attribute.

I have one xlsheet which conatins the row header and i am reading xlsheet with query.

what i want is i dont want to read 1st row(Header row).

I tried with all options but i am not getting the things.

Please help me.

Even CF9 exam is out, my CF8 certification is still valid. I think, we don't need to take CF9 exam if our current company accept CF8.

I ended up taking the ColdFusion 8 certification test, just because I didn't feel I had enough experience with the new features in ColdFusion 9. I passed the test yesterday, but now I'm seeing things on the Adobe certification web site that refer to something about 90 days validation for previous versions. There was no recertification for ColdFusion 9 only the full test, so does this mean that my ColdFusion 8 certification is good for how long??

That's spot on. Don't concern yourself with the CF8 guide as there's nothing in there that isn't in the CF9 one. Read through the "ColdFusion Functions" and "ColdFusion Tags" sections, as well as the "Application.cfc Reference". That should give you a fair grounding for the exam.

Personally all I did (as advised by an Adobe trainer) was to read through the Livedocs Function and Tag listings, making sure I understood what every one did and what attributes it has. I then read the Application.cfc reference, and that was it. Exam passed

The Adobe exams are pretty good as just being about the knowledge, a decent understanding plus a full listing of functions of tags will get you through.

I'm finding a lot of software downloads (at a cost of course) for ColdFusion Certification. Can anyone help me with the best route to go for preparing for ColdFusion 9 certification and how they prepared for it. Any tips on preparing for the test and the actual test. I did find a book entitled, "ColdFusion MX 7 Certified Developers Study Guide" but nothing on CF8 or CF9. Do you think this book would be beneficial in preparing for the CF9 certification? Any thought or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone out there received their certification yet and if so how much time did you have to devote to prepare for the exam. Thank you.

Those are some great points Jochem. I agree that structured training is not going to take anyone to the guru level. It can introduce a new concept to exerpienced developes though, say LiveCycle to experienced Flex developers for example, or curves based color correction to experienced Photoshop users.

The other factor of both classes and conferences is the enthusiasm factor. When I want to learn a new technology, I like to go to a class or conference because it actually gets me more excited about the technology and gives me the boost in motivation I need to get past the initial hurdles.

IMHO training and conferences serve a very different purpose.

Training is useful for developing your skills. Particularly when you are in the early stages of learning a new product / language. For many people getting started with something new is pretty daunting: installing a development environment, buildin a "Hello World", then switching to a real world example etc. Once people get past the initial hurdles the ROI of training decreases. Training is not going to help anybody moving from a "comfortable with" to a "guru" level.

Where training is particularly useful is when a team has to get started with a new technology while under a project deadline. Getting some trainer on-site to run the team through a training for a week and perhaps do a day of consultancy on the architecture for the project will easily shorten the cycle for that project by a month.

IMHO conferences and user groups are mostly for networking. The ROI very much depends on what you do exactly and what you want to achieve. Typically conferences are a geat way to get to know people. For us it typically is a way to meet developers to see if we would want to subcontract work to them. For others it is a way to meet companies like ours they might want to work for.

The technical content and skills learned at conferences are usually not the primary reason to go. Though especially if you are in a full-time position and have to little time to keep up with everything, getting a few days to see everything that is going on is a good way to get the priorities for your self-study clear.

And for the purpose of disclosure, I am CTO at Prisma IT where we split our time between development, cnsultancy and training for ColdFusion, Flex and LiveCycle ES.

First a full disclosure, I run a chain of Adobe Authorized ColdFusion training centers.

Whether or not classroom based training is worth it for you, is based on a few things. If you find self-study to be effective, it is certainly the least expensive option. There's nothing magical about attending a hands-on class, or attending a conference. I find it's a way to make certain you get some learning under your belt. For a lot of people self-study can be hit-or-miss and it's difficult to stay consistent. The other thing about live training like classes and conferences is that they tend to be a lot more fun for most people, and training sticks best when it's fun. Sorting through the ColdFusion chaff on teh web to find the wheat can also be difficult.

Most people who do attend instructor-led classes or conferences, though, do have employer sponsorship.

I think I'm moving forward with my coldfusion skills at a decent pace just by going to local CFUGs, asking questions on mail lists, etc. But I see and hear about coldfusion training classes and conferences that people spend significant amounts of money on... so my candid question is: Am I missing anything? Are the speakers really providing value, or is it really more about the networking that goes on??

I got the certification a few years ago just for fun and to see where I fit into the community, score-wise. I've never met an employer that knew to look for it, unlike a J2EE cert, but still it's an enjoyable process. Good luck to you.
