When can we expect an update of the web viewer?

The content displayed is not responsive and is therefore not useable on most small screens

Using note-taking functionality in DPS folio

I'm trying to use note-taking with html and java script (Add note-taking functionality to a folio | Adobe Developer Connection) with a DPS folio.

The iPad 4 displays the note records correctly. On the iPad2 the note records are displayed in duplicate.

Is there a way to adapt the code to work with iPad 2?

DPS has been crying out for the ability to disable swiping since day one in my opinion. The argument that the feature is 'for publishing apps' doesn't make sense because it is just digitally replicating a limitation (linear progress) that print has to live with. Also, publishing exists in guises other than print magazines. DPS shouldn't build in limitations like this just because print magazines have to deal with them.

HI DPS Team,

we are trying to migrate the legacy app to native android.

In the legacy app there was a feature to include custom banner URLs for direct entitlement. In the native version not.

Can you tell me if feature this is on your roadmap?

Further Details:

We have set up an Entitlement Server, users can login within the banner and if successful get entitled.

The android native app should include this external banner url, user should be entitled and the app should load the entitled folios.

Can you tell me a way how to do this?

Folio Overlays-Web Content: Work in Container/Frame.

By adding a check box to “Work in Container” in the Web Content window you could make it so that you never activate the full screen web browser in IOS or be redirected to a web browser in Android when navigating inside of a web content container / frame. Tapping links would navigate you inside of the container / frame, not the full screen (native) browser.

This would be so beneficial in many instances in keeping the user engaged and not making it feel like you have left the App. This would allow greater control for say adding purchases to a cart. Navigate to the next page of a website without leaving the current page of the App by being redirected to a full screen web browser that you have to tap Done to. The user experience could become that much more fluid and engaging. I still like the idea of the full page browser but it would be nice to keep the experience in the same screen as the App all be it a smaller screen or even a full page screen that I do not have to tap "Done" to. I know you would not have navigation buttons like back but for what I want to accomplish I don’t need them. There are far more positives than negative in adding such a feature.

Problem to upload an app with Apple Application Loader.

After I published with success a new .ipa with DPS when I tried to upload with Application Loader, the system refused my app.

In the past I never had this problem since last week it is impossible until now.

When I asked help the Apple developer assistance, says:

The error you’re receiving now does make sense that it was caused by the Adobe DPS program. Sometimes when using 3rd party app builders it will cause a similar error when attempting to upload a new app or update.

Unfortunately Apple does not support 3rd party app builders, and I would suggest contacting the support group at Adobe in regards to DPS and what setting you need to adjust within the program to successfully upload the app.

When contacting them be sure to have the description of the error ready for them. I’ve seen this similar case with previous developers that have used the Adobe app builder, and have reached a resolution with contacting them.

What can I do?

Now we have a scenario to use it as well:

We have HTML5 app inside of the web overlay that handles the touch events for the entire page and disables tap to call the navigation bar. To exit from the folio we use another overlay on top of the 1st one as a button with the link to goto://ApplicationViewState/library as per:

Yes, being able to turn of page navigation completely would be very usefull. This makes it possible to build your own navigation inside the page and prevent users from accedently moving to the next article by swiping.

Feature Request: Several Key Items

I am not really new to DPS. Have been publishing under contract for my client for the last 2 years now and it's been going great. However, there seems to be a few things we wish for that we can't seem to do. I figured this is probably the best place to request these features, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that somehow these make their way into an update or are considered maybe for other program features (you'll see what I mean later when I get into it).

1) It would be nice if we could produce apps for android phones as well as tablets. I am more of an iOS guy but we do have a bunch of users who want to access these folios on their phablets and android phones but cannot get access to it. I don't know how complicated this process might be but it would be a great feature to add in any upcoming DPS releases.

2) We are using DPS for publishing but we have been requested to use it in an "app style". The client wants this because they are comfortable with DPS and happy that their staff can use pretty much all the adobe suite programs. Maybe an ability to disable the browse toolbar (where the thumbails for articles show up and navigate). This way we can create a single page with MSOs and trick the user into thinking they're in an app instead of a digital magazine publishing platform app. This would work great for companies that want an app to accompany their magazine and display info about the company, how to reach them etc instead of having certain pages within the magazine.

3) A muse widget. I would love if we could directly export muse files directly into DPS (say, as if we were importing an image). I know this may be much to ask since this isn't the Muse feature request board but it woudl be nice to be able to export it as a widget that will automatically package it into an element with all the required files to import into DPS.

4) As muse and DPS are both great apps for designers who don't know how to code, maybe one or the other, or creating an app that is based off of the two could be an excellent choice for deisgners. There is a huge gap in the market for app builders. Muse is mainly a web builder and DPS is mainly for publishing. I think if Adobe could maybe mash the two into an app that helps users build basic apps. Imagine being able to make an app the same way you do in DPS? Having preset widgets such as capture image from camera, use geolocation, upload to server or whatever. I'm not too verse in this but it'd be nice if I could use an Adobe app to build an app that wasn't just a digital magazine. Maybe my lack of knowledge in this area is simplfying the whole process so forgive me if that's the case. From a business perspective it just seems that there is a huge gap for this, and maybe Adobe can conjure something up for the Adobe Faithful.

5) Automatic web viewer. Would be nice if whatever displayed on my iPad can automatically shoot up into a web viewer linked to a business catalyst account or a specified server as an HTML5 file. Again, I haven't gone too much into the web viewer version so forgive me if this already exists, but I have looked through some documentation and not really found much on it.

6) WIDGETS! More widgets like muse would be a life saver! Maybe something like a slideshow instead of just having the MSOs fade in and fade out, maybe allow a widget to do a slideshow that snaps into place everytime you swipe. It seems more natural since a lot of the apps function this way. Widgets also open up a lot of doors, maybe allowing users to create their own widget and housing a widget library on the adobe website?

Just some thoughts, not sure which ones are really doable but I figured it's worth a shot requesting them.

Hi guys,

It's very good that the new analytics is done in HTML5 and could be displayed on the tablet devices. The only problem here is that DPS Dashboard is still in flash. Could you please make the main Dashboard in HTML5, so we may use analytics on the mobile devices and the rest of the things in flash?

I absolutely agree too. In my country the iOS market for tablets represents only 23% while Android, Kindle Fire, Window 8... the rest. I can't find any client who only wants to sell or distribute its app only in IOS market. It's a pitty because I really prefer Adobe than others platforms.I'm just waiting for a change of the company

I definitely agree. More than anything, I wish I understood the discrepancy. Can anybody explain why it is relatively free to produce Apple apps (provided you're a CC member) but it costs $500/month to produce Android apps? The software to build them is the exact same, and the Apple apps actually have more functionality (in regards to the Folio Overlays that are not supported in droids, etc). I've been using DPS to great success to build some apps for my company, and they want to know why I can only build them for the iPad and not any other tablet.

Frankly, I'd like to know the same thing! Is there anyone out there who knows why there's such a monetary gap between these two seemingly identical tools? Or, better question, does anybody have a solution to converting an iapp into a tablet format that is less expensive?

Relative Path to image sequence/panorama folder for networked/shared drives

When using image sequence overlay (or any overlay requiring a folder of image (3d panorama…) it would be very practical to be able to give relative paths, especially when working on a networked volume.

Typically the path would be "MyFirstUser/SomeSharedFolder/Links/InteractiveFolder" and would require that my collaborator rename it "Collaborator/SomeSharedFolder/Links/InteractiveFolder"

Since the inD file is located in Collaborator/SomeSharedFolder/ or MyFirstUser/SomeSharedFolder/ then i would love to be able to type :

/Links/InteractiveFolder/ only.

I'm interacting with a collaborator and everytime he makes a modification on the file he has to rename the overlay's folder, same on my side.

Unless i missed it there's no easy way to do it.

Some unpractical workaround consists of having either of us build the folio on our own machine online, then share it and the other one "copies" inside the Folio Producer Editor.

Or did i miss something ?

As a smaller developer in it would be very useful to offer single edition licenses for a wide range of other devices. Moving up to the Pro Edition is quite a jump when you are first starting out and you can't prove a financial justification for the yearly payment of 4k plus.

There must be others like us who are starting to develop apps and need an initial soft financial start before taking a bolder step.

Put it into an MSO. Have the first state only a button to activate the

scrolling frame. The second state would be the scrolling frame.

You can have a close button in that state to send it back to the first

state.

Hi, in the case of overlays that overlap, it would be great if particular overlays are 'activated' only if they are tapped. For e.g. in the case of a pull out tab container overlapping a scrolling text frame, the tab should get activated only when tapped, so the text scrolling does not get affected.

Could you pls include Web Content Viewer in DPS SE as well?

Clear cache for HTMLResources

I've come across the need to clear the cache for my HTMLResources folder.

At the moment, if I update the files in HTMLResources.zip and re-upload, it doesn't always pull the latest/current version of everything in there – presumably because some files have been cached and since they're of the same name, it doesn't bother updating them.

Removing the folio from the device and re-downloading doesn't work.

I did a quick search to find an answer and came up with this discussion. From the looks of things, the only way to clear the cache is to delete the Adobe Content Viewer app and reinstall it – and even then, it doesn't always work.

A clear cache function would be great to be able to properly test web content in folios.

Incedentaly when I did delete/reinstall the ACV app I didn't need to log in again... that's weird, right?

Hi, i have a test apps (.ipa) installed on my iPad, and since i updated to iOs 7 my apps crashes. I have tried rebuild the apps, and changing the provisioning profile, but nothing works.

But in my opinion, naming them 'overlays' isn't enough to make this bug a feature.

And it would be great to be able to structure the whole doc using layers panel.

That's a question for engineers.

Using InDesign for DPS makes layers panel useless, as long as interactive objects override any other static element.

Making interactive objects respect layers would be my favorite Christmas gift.

For the use in especially iPads:

I asked the forum if this feature existed in DPS and was surprised to learn that it didn't. As it is now the viewer (when saying 'viewer' I mean the user/consumer of the iPad) always lands on the previously viewed page in the article when swiping horizontally back and forth.

I believe that having the ability to have the viewer always land on the top page of the article is a feature that would enhance the ease of use from the viewers perspective. E.g. when scrolling (horizontally) back to an article and then landing on a 'navigation' page that has hyperlinks/buttons to underlying pages instead of landing on the previously viewed page if you scrolled down (vertically).

Totally with Tara on this - and a considerable portion of DPS designers it seems. I was very sceptical when I heard about the possibility of designing apps with InDesign, but I was actually surprised by it's posibilities. This has great potential, but the e-publish style viewer is a big disadvantage for those wanting to take things a little further - customization or additional viewers to choose from should really be an option for this to hold some weight as a platform for designing apps.

We'll agree to disagree. It is an absolutely fundamental feature of DPS apps, which means it automatically influences every single design that uses it. I'd say such fundamentals are very important.

It may or may not be on Adobe's roadmap but I can tell you that I think

there are a whole host of things way more important to the majority of

users. I'm not saying it's not legitimate, just trying to control

expectations.

That's true, but I have found some clients are confused by the built-in page swipe for magazine style apps, even with very simple and clean UI. I see it as essential that this functionality can be controlled by the designer/developer.

Just be aware that the InDesign based solutions out there are designed for publishers, not developers. If you want a real app, you're going to need to look elsewhere.

I have been a Creative Cloud subscriber for over a year now as both a student and an educator and I have noticed one glaring thing wrong with including a subscription for DPS Single Edition for students (and small design & publishing houses/freelancers). In a nutshell, Single Edition is not enough to really launch people into Digital Publishing with the skills needed.

First and foremost SE is iOS-only. Because of Apple's refusal to allow 100% app devleopment/testing/signing on Windows, this requires students to own a Mac. While the program I teach in is done on Macintosh, about 75% of my students use Windows on their personal machines. Signing the apps using the lab computers would be a violation of the college Acceptable Use policies.

In addition, they need access to create content on Android, Windows, and Kindle Fire as well as most publications are at least on Apple/Android (and by extention Kindle) platforms.

My proposal is to create Digial Publication Suite Creative Cloud Edition. It would be just like Single Edition but allow for Multiple Folios that would allow entities to create digital publications and update them just like a real publication house such as Condé-Nast. Second, it would be available on all platforms allowing Windows users to utilize the subscription and also allow for them to prepare and test documents on multiple platforms. The third feature added would be limited analytics.

Hi all,

as many of us use image sequences swiping for multiple purpose (like 3D rotation of an object etc...) it would be great get the ability to choose the swip direction for the image sequence.

For many purposes the vertical option seems to be so much logical in order to move the object.

Does it looks like something possible ?
