Hi,

If you are using Prelude 2.1 or later it supports logging directly to RED media.

What version are you using and what does Prelude show you that is preventing you from adding markers?

Adding markers to RED footage in Prelude

Hey everyone, I was hoping to find a way to add markers to my RED footage without having to transcode it during ingestion. All my footage is kept on a separate drive from my computer. Two separate computers can pull from this drive so I'd love to avoid the transcode process to save me some time and allow me to edit everything RAW. Anyone have a work around to this process they know about?

Can`t change color of custom markers in Prelude

Hi,

Although I managed to find out how to create custom markers in Prelude, I`m not able to change their color once I`ve created them. They seem to be linked to the marker I used to create my custom marker (hope that makes sense). They also do not show up in the marker preference setting.

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks for your feedback Michael and bfrancav.

Believe it or not, I had actually deleted those three default submarkers for the exact same reason that Adobe chose to do away with them: I never used them. But when I re-installed Prelude and saw that they were no longer there, I got scared thinking I had somehow damaged my copy of Prelude. That's a relief to know that this was Adobe's decision! Phew! Thank you Michael for putting our minds at rest about this.

I have one minor request to Adobe though when it comes to Prelude Markers. It would be really nice if the colored markers we set in Prelude kept their color in Premiere. For example, I like my "Comment markers" to be white as opposed to green. But unfortunately when I open the same annotated clips in Premiere, the markers all default to the dark green color. I then have to manually change each marker to white and that can be very time consuming.

So we need for Premiere to respect the color of the markers we set in Prelude and not keep defaulting them all to green.

Thank for your response, Michael. Actually I never used those features, myself. But as you know, we love squeezing as much juice out of this stuff as possible, and by virtue of that always fear we might be missing out on something.

Automating SxS XAVC ingest on set

I shoot with a Sony F5 camera on SxS card in the XAVC format. Can I use Prelude on set to automatically backup and ingest my daily's when I connect the SxS card to my Macbook pro? I also need to make a lowres H.264 file on the end of the day containing al of the footage shot that day with timecode burned in. Can I setup Prelude or Encoder to automate this proces? Is it possible to set it up so that all individual clips on the SxS card are put together in one H.264 file with original timecode burned in?

Hi Guys -

Thanks for opening this thread. Looks like we didn't communicate this change very well with the 2014.1 release of Prelude CC. The marker types we removed were in response to the fact that they were not used - like maybe a couple people used them according to our tracking. We are always looking for ways to clear the "clutter" and make the app more useable.

If you have placed these marker types on clips previously, they will still appear associated with those clips. And when you load a clip with these marker types on it you will see in the Marker Type panel those marker buttons appear again for the duration of the project/clip you are viewing. So no metadata has been lost, but we did remove those marker types.

If there is popular demand for these marker types we'd love to hear it - as we can certainly add them again if needed.

I chatted with Adobe about this issue. They confirmed that the change had been made for Adobe in CC 2014.1 When "I asked why", he sent me a reference link to "this (our) conversation". So based on our assumption here, I guess that IS the answer. Weird.

once I solved the issue deleting the cache database I've been worked for few hours and then Prelude crashed again. I Update CC to lates version and now ... Premiere CC 2014.1 crashes too

Someone suggested me to rebuild the workstation. Is this the only way to fix the issue?

I tried also to update graphic card but nothing has been changed

I have the same issue, Updated to latest 2014.1, updated Graphic card as suggested in different forum and now not only Prelude but also Premiere Pro doesn't work!!!

Any Idea?

Oh wow! You are right. I suppose it is possible that they could of phased the out. However, when I saw them reappear for that one instance it would seem it's more so a conflict than a complete abandonment of web links and chapter markers.

Oh well. I too thought I was on a lonely planet!

I thought it was just me who was having that problem. So that means it's not something on just my end. Perhaps a bug?

Interestingly though I'm just wondering whether the latest version of Prelude (CC 2014.1) might not have done away with some of the default markers. Here's why:

Check out the official Prelude page from Adobe and look closely at the markers window in the product shot. Notice anything different?

It shows only three default markers: subclip, comment, and speech transcription. The other three appear to have been removed from the program.

I am having the same issue. Strangely, I uninstalled/reinstalled the app - where magically all markers in the FULL LIST appeared but. Unfortunately, I kept getting an prompt that my project (from yesterday) could not be read by this version. So sure enough, I returned to the download page where it asked, "if I wanted to update"? I did - and the markers disappeared and reverted back to these three you show here. I am wondering if it might be a conflict with OSX 10.10? Are you on a Mac or PC? Will be reaching out tomorrow to Adobe for support.

As we use to say in Italy "me la suono e me la canto" translated "I play myself and I sing myself" which means I raise the question, I eas hungry for that but then I was the cause of the problem.

Here how it has been solved.

Under menu Edit / Preferences / General / media

click on clean "Media Cache Database". It take a while to reply particularly if your foder is quiete full like was mine (30GB)!!

Once cleaned everythinhg goes fine.

I did probably something wrong, I've been using Prelude a lot but I didn't know I should have cleaned. I'll ask to my to my Adobe Tutor Paolo Baccolo.

Hi,

We have Export Markers feature which is available from the FILE->EXPORT main menu area.

You can export markers from any selected clip(s) or subclip(s) into either HTML format or CSV format. Once you open the output in a browser or spreadsheet you can print from there.

Premiere Pro also has a Marker Export feature that may include sequence marker export capabilities. I haven't yet played with that though.

Not sure why, but among my default markers I only have three types appearing in Prelude:

Does anyone know how to restore the default set of markers so that I can recover the others: Flash Cue Point, Web Link, Chapter are all missing from the defaults.

Let me add some informations. I formatted an other PC and installed the CC and I can see the latest release 2014.1. Unfortunately I cannot format my laptop but I copied the same installer ver 2.8.1.451.The tool installed the old release 2014 with the same issue.

I've been heard that the only way to instal the lates version is format the HDD?

Is it true?

It works the same way. Just drag the main tab to a new location. You'll see the familiar "purple shapes."

Not sure. Seems to work OK for me. Try ingestion different media from another folder.

I faced the same issue, I opend I did all steps you suggest with the only difference I renamed ADOBE in mi local directory C:\Users\vimere\Documents\Adobe even if I also see the same folder in Public folder C:\Users\Public\Documents but once I delete it it willl never appear again. Maybe is a refuse of my old Adobe installation (CS6, CC8).

My licence is a company one for VIacom

Actually the problem came back. In one clip, the marker keyboard shortcut is working. In another clip it's not I have no way to move forward or back and the shortcut is greyed out.

Not sure why but none of my keyboard shortcuts are working in Prelude CC 2014.1

For example, I can't use the Cmnd + right/left arrow to move forward or backward from one marker to the next. The keyboard shortcut even in the menu is actually greyed out:

Literally conformed until there was a MB left on the drive.

I am getting multiple multiple multiple duplicates of the .pek and .cfa files when Prelude conforms. And after changing hard drives, etc..

When I turn off the automatic conform I get no audio.

There has to be a better way! Why can't we just get rid of those conform files and have your programs just read the audio file?

How does everyone else handle this?

Hello, I am relatively new to Prelude and I have three questions.

-Secondly, The finder in the project panels isn't finding anything I enter (names of clips, subclass, comments. What am I doing wrong?

-Thirdly the Marker Type panel used to show five types of markers and now is only showing three (Subclip, Comment, and Speech Transcription.).

I have tried resetting the workspace, close and reopen the application and even reboot my computer.. Nothing helps.

I am currently using the latest version .. Prelude cc 2014.

I am on a mid 2010 iMac with OS X Yesomite..

turns out they do work, but only after modifying a conflicting keystroke from another program. Funny that CC could do it though. This leads to my next question - can that (option) keystroke be changed?

Michael, were these keyboard shortcuts removed for the 2014 release? They do not work for me now (holding down option and jkl or space), but they do still work in the CC version (pre 2014). Also, can the keystroke be changed by the keyboard shortcut window? I can't find them in there anywhere. Thanks.

Yes, I was ingesting through Prelude.

I also had the transcode checked. I was using H.264 and I double checked my preset.

The footage was playing fine in the camera. Prelude was viewing it stretched.

I decided to erase the footage off my camera.

I shot some new clips.

When I reconnected everything was back to the correct aspect ratio as transcoded fine.

I don't think I did anything to cause the problem. I also didn't do anything to fix it. But now it's working.

Are you suggesting a bin panel behavior like you have in Premiere Pro, where different bins can be opened in different panels?

Other users who want the same feature should also submit through the same link. The more users ask for a feature, the higher priority that feature gets.

Script Content Analysis not inserting back intro Prelude

So I have attached my script to my clip. Click on Analyse Content and click okay. Adobe Media Encoder opens and runs and completes but nothing else happens. I go back over to Prelude and there are no additional markers in my clip. Any thoughts?

Do you have Transcode checked on when you in ingest?

If so, what preset are you using for the Transcode?

Have you verified that the preset is set to act as you expect?

I'm using a mac pro 2010, osx 10.9.5 with firewire audio through mackie onyx 1220i. I'm logging footage off a usb3 external (at usb2 speed since I dont have usb3 on my mac pro 2010), The audio will consistently drop out when using JKL scrub (particularly back scrub with J) and when it comes back it cause a loud pop, the kind that makes you worried your speakers are going to blow, like when you turn off a synth at full volume before turning it down on the mixer. Super worried about this issue and Prelude possibly blowing my speakers. Seems like a bug?

OK I've managed to do some comparative tests.

Firstly you are right, Prelude is not copying the entire proxy to the computer - when you scrub through the thumbnail view it is reading it off the disk. This is good because it saves the time copying the proxy and the camera is able to keep up so its fine.

I'll send you an email with the exact findings of my tests because you may be interested but the basic takeaway from all this is that there appear to be some significant stability and speed improvements between version 3.0.1(3) and version 3.1.0(128). The same machines running the same equipment, but with the previous version, were constantly falling over.

So you've answered my question: Prelude does use the proxies, and rather than copying them it reads them straight off the disk to save time.

And also it appears that v3.0.1 had some sort of issue in our workflow. Initially I was worried that Prelude wasn't going to work for us at all but now it seems a simple upgrade will solve our problem. You might say why didn't I just update the machine before starting but that is easier said than done! I needed to be sure it was worth it because changes to our fleet of computers have to go through the company's processes and procedures to ensure other things don't get ruined.

Multiple bins simultaneously

When using prelude I often redistribute all clips in different bins according to their content. In order to do that it would be nice to have both the thumbnail view and the bins open simultaneously in order to drag and drop to different bin windows, a bit like moving files on different folders.

I wonder if there's a way to do this, I end up using list view to be able to watch all bins simultaneously.

Maybe there's a better workflow, I accept tips.
