Menu dropdown but working on specific pages?

HI,

I have a little issue that I can not find a solution to?

On my trial site; Home Page with Full Page Slider

There is one down menu for services. This menu works fine apart from on the about, services and news pages?

Can anyone suggest why this is not working? I think I have been looking at it for too long?

The only work around that I have for this is css+ js.

Asign a class to tag_blogtitle in overall blog layout and put a script to hide it in Post blog layout.

Currently tag_blogtitle} is in the Overall blog layout and appears on all blog posts, I only want this heading displayed on overall blog layout not on individual posts.

Liam -

I disabled the beta features and that seemed to fix the problem this morning without adding the <head></head> ---- that seemed to work until it didn't...

so I went and added <head></head> updated, check the source code - looked like it took the <head></head> tags but the FB Debugger scraper still came back with same error

went back into the editor and it had removed the <head></head> tags

I've tested a number of blog posts and commerce items - some work, some don't (could be old scrapes I suppose)

I also had to switch from using the editor in Safari to Chrome to get the editor to update anything

(To my knowledge I never actually enabled beta - noticed the editor change a month or so ago - I knew it was buggy after talking to support about that time, but this meta image tag was working till Friday so I hadn't disabled it)

Firs things first, you do know you enabled the beta features and as such there are bugs etc. So please be aware of that.

Especially with the blog, just the meta causes problems.

Put that meta in a <head></head> and you should see that render properly.

I had added a tag (like this) to each of my individual posts in the post details html editor

How do I add <meta property="go:image" to my individual blog entries?

The way I had it configured was working until yesterday - when the new BC update was released - and I am now getting this message from the FB Debugger

Meta Tags In Body Your page has meta tags in the body instead of the head. This may be because your HTML was malformed and they fell lower in the parse tree.
Please fix this in order for the tags to be usable.

Hi,

Could you give us a bit more details on the problem? Do you have a sample site and a more detail description of the problem?

The new editor does have a paragraph style selector, so I assume ti does not support all the styles or some of the styles set by Muse.

No problem. That's pretty much what I did including stripping out the funky grey background color but I really like what you did with the #title to control the text. I may revisit mine and steal that little bit of clean up to the title.

The new BC blog interface seems to have eliminated the option to bring in paragraph styles from Muse. Am I missing something?

Basic styles and javascript are not really what is being asked for here. I been doing that sort of thing for a very long time.

You can not use liquid to manipulate the results yet, but I passed on the request to the BC engineers.

No problem.

I'm actually not getting rid of the table on the results page as it isn't possible to edit the module they've used to write the results. You can however add a style tag above the body tag (or at the lowest point of the head tag to completely undo their tabledefault class and impose your own version of the tabledefault class to give you the look you're shooting for. You do this by adding it to the System Pages form results module/template.

it will look something like this:

<body>

The rest of your page here.

Since the style declaration is read after the BC stylesheet it is imposed on the table. What I did was make sure that their tabledefault class matched the normal table class I have for my site giving me consistency.

You lost me - I am no coding expert.

I did hand modify the form side to rid myself of the table format, but don't understand how you were able to rid yourself of the table format in the results.

I can see in the source file of the results page, the table: <table class="tabledefault" but how do you overwrite that so tables are not used?

I actually hand modify the form side so there is no table format for my forms pages and for the form confirmation I have an on page <style> section right above the body tag that overrides the class="tabledefault" (written by the BC module) to use the same styles I have for my Bootstrap based site.

It's a bit of creative style hacking but it works and it keeps my site clean, simple and no redirects.

I should have thought of that myself - nice!

I am assuming then, for the form, you left the html table in, because you can't remove that from the "results", and then you styled around the table. Using the holding class in the system message, instead of class="system-message"

Basically giving you the exact same format as the form.

It does mean every result is the same as the form, so you can't style individual results, and its a bit cumbersome for created fields. For example I have a form of 92 different inputs, and I did instyle CSS as they were nearly all different.

It is possible to change the look and feel of the web form results. I stripped the BC classes out and then created a "holding" class for the form and styled all the elements within that holding class to appear as I want them to.

The Forms, Results and Confirmation page all now seamlessly blend in to my site design. I then went in and did the same thing for all system emails stripping all of BC's real ugly style-less look out of it.

You'll find these in the System Messages and System Emails section (or you can do all your work in DreamWeaver as I do it's just a bit less obvious to drill down to those items in DW)

Although it would be nice to know how to get the data, if you know how to do it.?

This also depends on what functionality you are hoping for to. Typically the simple embed gives you only the basic map. I use the API as it gives me tons of control.

I hear what you are saying, its just I see so many areas where some very small to medium changes would enhance BC exponentially. I mean in workflow, why not have a proper email editor with a saved email that is attached to a workflow item, rather than that small text area.

That alone would open BC up to so many more businesses. Copywriters I am talking to say BC can't do what I want, yet -

At the moment I am fudging it with a campaign triggered after an anniversary date, but I have to add an INPUT Anniversary date field, hidden by CSS, with javascript to input a date (which has to be formatted the same as the BC Date picker) so when a user enters their data, I have an anniversary date, to trigger a follow up email. LOL seriously - I then I have to put up with poor webformresults showing the anniversary date and title, plus a case number I just don't want. And on that I have asked this Webform Redirect

I just cant use the webform results as they are, so am I able to redirect to a page I build?

It would be nice to be able to be able to drag out some of the information and display it, but I am thinking that is not possible.

I am having the same problem with some of my clients editor's not all. lmages will only appear after publishing or updating the post and sometimes only after doing that and refreshing the who page. I have clients placing the image 4 or 5 times trying to get to work, when it actually is, but just not showing.

HI Liam, Thanks for the help. I did untick the beta version activation and it is back to normal. (It auto activated because I never ticked it in the first place)

Now that I have the old wysiwig editor back I am having trouble formating the paragraph with the image in it. I am using the {tag_blogpostpreview,More Details...}

What I want is the image on the left and the copy on the right. I set the image to align to the left but the text won't seem to pull away on the right. Any thoughts?

Also how can I get the copy to only show the copy to line up with bottom of the image?

But BC has never stated it is toe to toe as good as the other systems, it will always get better in every area but no such system has ever done all in one as good as things dedicated to those tacks.

People assume incorrectly what all in one actually means, And I think BC themselves have in the passed as well.

You have email marketing tapping into your CRM without going elsewhere, directly into the system, you can make sales funnels based on eCommerce that then fire off marketing campaigns all in the same system - This is very powerful. This is what we at Pretty home BC starts expanding on, harnessing these triggers and abilities within the scope of one system to do a lot more then mailchimp could ever do.

Do your list but email me - liam AT prettydigital.com.au - I can let you know if they are already on the cards, if you can do them already or BC are already aware of them for you. I woudl bet most on your list would already be covered or known or requested (most of the time they are) But you would get a quicker response then you would to BC.

If you have an existing site, that new editor is part of BC.Next which is in beta and if you start new sites is only available in the beta section and something you enable. A number of elements of that editor do not function 100% at the moment, being a beta feature.

If you want it back to normal under settings - beta options there is a tick for that you should be able to disable. I would talk to your dev or whoever turned that on though in case they were using any of the new code stuff as part of the beta on the site.

In the BC Admin, the blog editor is exactly as it has been for some time. Support will not have said it has changed, it hasn't. If they did or you think they did there would have been some miss understanding there.

Trust me, it is no different then it has been for quite some time.

I have hinted at this problem, and only just realised it myself. BC is a great eCommerce platform, but it is not how it was originally marketed and still is - Business Catalyst (BC) is an all-in-one business website and online marketing solution.

I have continued to try and use BC for other types of businesses, not relevant to having eCommerce, and it just keeps failing to have that little extra that makes it work. You may remember me saying that it seems to have no business development behind it. I was wrong, however the development is a little more focused on eCommerce than I realised.

I have decided to write out a list when I get time that highlights the small changes needed, that would open BC up to other industries/businesses. Whether anybody wants to look at that type of thing is another matter.

On the email side - Yes it can, but with an expected 200 to 300K emails a month, I need more automation than that (and something a little cheaper), so your point about dedicated services is relevant.

I checked the beta activation and I have not....the editor is totally different from yesterday. I can't edit the photo by right clicking and placing image (up down right left) Where did is go?

But...

1. You can not have an attachment but you can put a download link in.

2. To send someone a further email is easy and something you can do in BC. You just need to send a campaign series for example with email campaigns Or you can set up the workflow system on a more basic for to fire off notifications to users and admin based on time and esculate them to different roles. It depends on what you want but you have two aspects of BC that can do this and be quite complicated. Since you can also add anniversary dates to forms and set those dates based on anything you want, email campaigns can be made to trigger on those dates as well. You also have the email campaign ability to automate and email every week for example.

So while I did make that comment about dedicated services, in your case, you can create something to offer what your after in BC.

The Blog WYSIWYG will not have changed any time soon unless you turned on a new beta feature for BC.Next.

You just need to insert the image at the start of the first paragraph

Hi Liam,

I have been trying to do something similar. I have tried to insert an image and then the paragraph I have been able to get 3 posts to show up. But I would like to include the image in the preview. I can get the image in but it seems the blog wysiwig interface has changed and I can't get the image to set to the left and then show the proper amount of text to show up so that the image and the text look uniform.

Any suggestions?

Also I'm not going crazy did they just change the wysiwig editor?

All this can be done in other mailing systems, getresponse, mailchimp for example, so it does raise the question is why BC is so expensive when it comes to sending larger amounts of email.

Search Segregation - do I have to use a sub-domain and pay for a separate IP address?

I've got a site that must keep the same domain but has two separate types of visitors (think customers and vendors) is creating a sub-domain and paying for a separate IP address the only way to completely segregate the search results (without going to private login features)?

I really need to segregate the web content as both customers and vendors have similar questions but the content on their pages aren't helpful to each other. Currently my search results are heavy on Vendor content even when a it is a customer search topic.

I think this is outside what BC can do, but ask if anyone else has done something similar.

User fills in webform and receives an automated email.

1) Can that automated email have an attachment? Does not seem possible, and I would prefer not to have a link.

2) I would like the workflow to then send a further email in say one weeks time.

And then a further email in say 2 weeks time

In wan to edit the sender and the subject and both may or may not have an attachment.

Now I can see that workflow does have the ability to actually send an email (that has been specifically scripted) to the user, but not change the sender or the subject.

I am I wrong, and it can be done?

I spent (wasted) a couple days trying to figure this out, though. If the documentation said When using multiple forms on a module page, such as an Events Detail page, set all other forms "Action" to OTYPE=1 for the forms to work on your module page.

Maybe this post will help someone else not waste time:) Unless I'm missing something, this is an easy fix. Are there other problems that can arise by using OTYPE=1 instead of the tag?

I want to add something here, for others

When formatting within the Customise Web Form" (other action) itself, be careful as the result is divorced from any changes made to the webform

For example Newsletter sign up - with the webform newsletter was chosen and within "Customise Web Form" I could see the newsletter, however the list number was wrong, after checking the html code within the tables, and it does not update.

Even adding a new list, did not actually add the new list to the "Customise Web Form" area, so it needs to be manually added. FYI anyone that did not know that.
