The built-in Quick Docs is only available for CSS properties. You can install extensions like QuickDocsJS to add Quick Docs support for other things, but I'm not sure if one is available yet for HTML tags.

Is it possible you're thinking of Quick Edit instead? Quick Edit on an HTML tag will show you an inline editor with all the matching CSS code in your project -- that is included in Brackets core. Use the shortcut Cmd-E to access this feature. (By comparison, Quick Docs is a readonly view that just shows documentation).

Hi. sorry I am not sure where to ask ... if you could point me to a better place ... thanks.

I installed the 1.0 of brackets and there is a quickdoc feature (CMD+K on a mac) for HTML as a build in extension - unfortunatly, I get the error message, "No Quick Docs available..." ... what can I do?

Yup, understandable. The only major downside is that Brackets isn't available via the Creative Cloud app. We understand this isn't ideal but hopefully it's not a blocker to adopting Brackets. I think you'll find the speed of development and additional features a big upgrade.

We want to keep the open source project separate but we're definitely looking at more Creative Cloud integrations. Whatever we do we'll be releasing as extensions so that they're separate from Brackets but easily accessible.

Thanks for making this clear. However, this comes as a big surprise to me. I was expecting Brackets to flow into Code, not the other way around. Code is seamlessly integrated into Creative Cloud thanks to the app name, to begin with, and the accessibility through the Creative Cloud status icon. I understand Brackets needs probably to maintain an opensource-ish reputation, but still...

That is great news, I was worried that with the 2 being separate there would be a lot of wasted effort. Can we expect to see more adobe features to be added to brackets with extensions going forward or will they be integrated into brackets via updates.

Just to follow up, we posted some information on the blog about our plans for Edge Code. We are not going to be doing another release of Edge Code, but it will still be available to Creative Cloud users. Instead we encourage you to start using Brackets which has more features and gets updated more often. In addition, both Edge Inspect and Edge Web Fonts are available as Brackets extensions.

Hi all,

In order to deliver the best possible code editor experience, Adobe has decided to focus its development efforts on the open source Brackets project. As part of this, Adobe will no longer actively develop Edge Code, and will instead direct users to Brackets. Brackets has seen tremendous success since it was first unveiled and by focusing all our efforts on Brackets, we can continue to drive innovation while providing access to Creative Cloud features like Extract for Brackets to the growing Brackets community.

With very few differences between the two products, we recommend that that customers needing a lightweight web development editor use Brackets instead. Edge Code will continue to remain available for Creative Cloud customers, and they will receive in app messaging about the change and encouraged to begin using Brackets for the latest features. Moving projects from current Edge Code projects to Brackets is seamless.

Because both Edge Code and Brackets work natively with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, no special actions need to be taken. You can find more information about Brackets on the Brackets site and see how to use some of the new features by visiting the How to Use Brackets page.

If Inspect is your main reason for sticking with Edge Code, you can download the same extension for Brackets. Just install/open Brackets, click on the lego-looking-icon, search for "Edge Inspect" and install the extension.

Should work the same way!

Does anyone have a situation where of of index.html that comes with Edge Code CC, when you hit the live preview link, Chrome opens, but the status stays on "Waiting..." indefinitely? the url value is file:///Applications/Adobe%20Edge%20Code%20CC.app/Contents/www/LiveDevelopment/launch.htm l ... im not sure its an issue to render this page... am I doing something wrong?

Hello, I can't embed the code for the Adobe Edge Web Fonts in Adobe Edge Code.

There should show up a icon to click where I can embed the code, but it doesn't show up or exist.

I also searched for this problem in the forum already and followed the instructions with the "string.js" (delete "de":true)

and opened my TypeKit-Account while starting Edge Code, but nothing works.

The icon for the code is still missing. Any help for this problem?

I just installed Brackets and the installed the extension (per Creative Cloud Extension Builder for Brackets), but I see the exact same results. It doesn't look like the videos and nothing happens when I use the option I do see. Any other thoughts?

Edge Code will at best be at the same version as Brackets, but will more likely be behind. I'd recommend switching to Brackets to always be at the latest version.

Edge Code is a re-branding of Brackets which is currently at release 0.37, but Brackets is currently at 0.44, so I suspect that you are trying to install versions of extensions that are too new (i.e. downloading zip file gives you latest by default). You can either switch to Brackets (http://brackets.io) or try figuring out the correct version of each extension for Brackets Sprint 37 (which was release March 17th, 2014).

I'm not sure how to solve that, but Edge Code is a re-branding of Brackets (http://brackets.io) so you could try using that instead. Note that Brackets is updated more often than Edge Code, so there are more features.

Cannot install extension in Edge Code CC (preview)

Hi there,

I am completely new to edge code. I downloaded it today to give it a try I do code a lot in html css and javascript using a lot Less and Jade.

Codekit is my precompiled

I wanted to install some extensions for Jade and Less but whatever I tried Edge code give me an error.

I go to the extention manager button

click install from URL in the panel

paste the URL that I copied from the bracket registry page

I click the install button

the error message " Installation failed Unknown internal error" appears.

Is it something I do wrong.

I've been trying to use Adobe Edge Code and the "CC Extension Builder" from David Daeraedt (http://davidderaedt.github.io/CC-Extension-Builder-for-Brackets/) to build an HTML5 panel for Photoshop CC 2014. Not sure what I'm doing, but I can't get started. My screens look very different from the ones I see demo'd on David's page (he's in Brackets), and nothing appears to occur when I run the extension (CC Extension Builder / New Creative Cloud Extension / Create Extension). Anyone else using this tool and having better luck than me? Looks promising, but I must be making some rookie mistake getting started.

Why won't Edge Code download?

I uninstalled Edge Code from the Control Panel after having difficulties. When I went to try an reinstall it from the Creative Cloud tool, it told me that it was still downloaded, even though it is not. I've tried downloading it from the website too but it just redirects me to the Creative Cloud tool which won't let me download Edge Code again.

Can someone plz tell me how to re-download Edge Code?

The latest version of Edge Code has file watchers also, so you shouldn't be seeing problem #1. A couple questions:

What version of Edge Code are you using? (See the About window).
What OS are you on?
Where is your project folder located? Is it on a network share by any chance? Or does your project contain any symlinks?
Do you have any extensions installed? If so, please try temporarily disabling them (choose Help > Show Extensions Folder, rename the 'user' folder to something else, then restart Edge Code).
Can you check whether Live Preview works properly on your computer? You can test this with the simple Getting Started project that comes with Edge Code, if your current project isn't set up for it. (I know this seems unrelated, but it will tell us whether there's a more general problem in the infrastructure that both these features share).

Hopefully that's enough to help us get to the bottom of it -- thanks!

Edge Code is a re-branding of Brackets (http://brackets.io), but it's several releases behind. I think the first problem will be fixed in Brackets which has File Watchers.

The behavior in the second problem is controlled by the `closeTags` preference, which currently can only be set manually. See this doc for more info:

Hi All,

I understand that this is trial software, but I am having trouble with this application. Couple of things:

1) I have a folder open in Adobe Edge Code. Whenever I am insert a new file, Edge Code does not automatically refresh. I have to close out and open back up just to see the new file. Anyway around this?

2) Sometimes I have to do a lot of copy and pasting especially when it comes to content. The auto complete option gets annoying. For example, say I am typing a list. Whenever I open an <li> bracket it automatically attaches the ending </li> bracket. I have to delete that one and retype it at the end of the pasted sentence. Is there a way to turn this auto completion feature off? I do have the Auto Close Brackets off, but that isn't doing anything.

There is not sentence "Ctrl-Alt-S" in main.js file. I used plugin for Brackets with allow me to reconfigure shortcuts. Now i have polish letters.

If you want to view and edit the contents of an existing folder on disk -- a different folder than the default Getting Started project -- just use File > Open Folder to choose a folder. This will close the Getting Started project folder and switch to the new folder you selected. You can switch back to a previously opened folder by clicking the folder name in the sidebar, which opens a dropdown of recently-used project folders.

Can you post a link to the video you're following? Otherwise it's hard to know what type of code hints you're referring to.

Edge Code should show code hints when typing in CSS, LESS, SCSS, HTML, or JS files. It won't show code hints in any other type of code unless you install an extension that happens to add new code hinting features.

Quick Edit and most of Edge Code features are project based. That is, you have to open your project first by selecting File > Open Folder... and select your project root. Once you've done that, then you should be able to add new rules to any of your css files in that project.

I am trying to figure out how to add new rules to my working stylesheet. When I right click on an element and select quick edit, it gives me the option to add a new rule, but it is for the Edge Code/main.css stylesheet only. How do i select which stylesheet I want to style?

Are you trying to install the latest version from a .zip file? Edge Code is behind Brackets, so you may need to get the .zip of a previous version.

Let me know if you need help figuring out which Brackets API version you have in Edge Code or how to download an older version of brackets git extension.
