I've been working with the team at PayPal to allow BC Partners to set up a cost effective way to setup a Seamless Transaction Shopping Cart Process on their BC eCommerce website without the need for a 3rd Party Merchant Provider like eWay or Secure Pay or their bank. This is designed for entry level businesses who want to control their setup costs and keep all funds in one place (PayPal).

Currently BC doesn't support Paypal's Payments Pro plan in Australia so you are limited with either a non-seamless payment process or using a 3rd Party Merchant provider with can be costly.

Without going into too much detail, the setup on PayPal's side is a mixture of a couple of plans, and is a little complicated however through our discussions we come to an arrangement of any additional fee's associated with the setup being waived since this is more so of a technical workaround than anything else.

Basically PayPal is the merchant provider, and the customer doesn't leave your website when making a purchase through the Shopping Cart. The setup is only $25/month plus transaction fees of between 1.1 to 2.4% + 30 cents depending on the number of payments (this is just an initial guide and confirmed on your discussion with the PayPal).

Because the setup involves quite a few steps and departments I've arranged a contact that will fast track this process and is familiar with this unique setup.

How to setup PayPal for a Seamless Transaction Process

Sign up for PayPal Business account Timeframe: <20 minutes
Email Peter psady@paypal.com or phone (02) 8288 0333. CC me gary@itbusiness.com.au or mention my name so he can correctly setup the process and apply the discounted pricing.
Prepare for the Verification process for the PayPal account (Proof of ID, Proof of Address, Business documents etc).
Wait for Account Verification. You will be informed to setup both PayFlow Pro* and Website Payments Pro (*the PayFlow payment will be waived as mentioned previously). Timeframe: up to 5 business days depending on swift supply of required documentation.
Wait for your Billing Agreement for Website Payments Pro once application has been approved. Sometimes they will receive a phone call to verify details of the application. Timeframe: Up to 72 hours
Login into your PayPal account to accept the Billing Agreement.
Notify Peter once the Billing Agreement has been accepted so your PayFlow Pro can be linked to your Website Payments Pro
Login into your Business Catalyst Website and navigate e-Commerce > Payment Gateways
Select PayPal PayFlow Payment Gateway (..,AU, ..)
Enter your Username, PayPal Password, and add VSA as the Partner

Setting up PayPal Payments

If you also want to make payments via PayPal (ie, with the customers Pay Pal account) you can continue with setting up the PayPal Website Standard secure with your PayPal Customer ID and your PDT Token which you'll need to setup in your PayPal Account.

If you have any questions give me or Peter an email. I'll continue to update this document as I go.

Please note this setup is current for Australian Pay Pal Customers only. This process does not support re-occurring billing.

Okay I have made it work but I think the solution is not desirable and I hope there is another way.

It was only after I created product variations did configuring tab_attributes work. What isn't desirable is the need to maintain a stock level of something that's an option that has no stock levels associated with it.

It would be much simpler for default selection to work without the need for inventory and creating product variations.

Therefore is there another way? Or some way of specifying infinite stock levels?

Also despite the first parameter being false the options are listed horizontally.

Basically {tag_attributes} seems to be a right mess in it's implementation to me. It's certainly not simple to use!

I have used exactly: {tag_attributes,false,false,true}

I do see the behavior change but only in that the options are now listed horizontally. According to the documentation this should only happen if the first parameter was set to true.

EDIT: If it helps I am simply using the default OXO3 template and the tag is being placed in Individual Product Large. I have also tried {tag_attributes,,,true}.

Hey Gavin.

1. You have these options: {tag_attributes, horizontal, hideDisabledVariations, autoSelectFirstVariation} So you can set it - {tag_attributes,false,false,true}

2. You will need to do this with javascript

3. You just need to inspect the markup of attributes and target them accordingly. This is just CSS so how to do CSS is a google away.

I've tried searching for information on how best to customize {tag_attributes} but not finding much help so hoping someone can help on here.

I would like to know if it is possible and if so how to do the following.

1/ For a mandatory product attribute with a drop down list (or radio button) how do I automatically select the first option. I assume I use javascript to achieve this but I don't know how you select the correct elements. Has anyone some example code?

2/ When an option is selected (not mandatory) which has am additional price how do I recalculate and show the product total?

3/ Can the tag_attributes style be configured (I assume with css) can anyone provide a simple example I could follow?

Would appreciate anyone's help on this.

I am building an e-commerce site based on the Boutique template. So far I have been able to adapt most elements but am struggling to get drop down menus to work we way we want. The problem we are experiencing is with child element of the main navigation. Things work fine with the first level of drop down, but following levels are not hidden, only becoming visible on rollover. Can anyone help me solve this problem please.

What country are you in?

Does your country have states? If not the latitude and longitude calculation on BC does not work because it can not form them. So if your in New Zealand for example it does not work properly.

Using Business Catalyst and have a number of email folders set up. One of the boxes forwards mail on to another, non-BC domain.

At that non-BC domain are many more emails than show up in the BC webmail In folder.

All BC spam control is set to 'default,' but I can't find any place that says what that default is. And I'd like to turn it off, since some of the email that BC is saying are spam are not.

I am also a domain administrator, and there is no place I can find to set systemwide email controls, parameters, or preferences. Each mailbox needs to be separately specced.

Hi Taylor3d,

In order to add a domain to your site, please refer to the following document for instructions: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/going-live-guide.html. To summarize, once the site is live, simply add your domain to your site via the admin console > Site Settings > Site Domains > New Domain. At your registrar where you purchased the domain, you will need to update the nameservers to the ones listed in the article I've just provided.

In regards to using Business Catalyst for hosting email, you will need to upgrade to the webBasics+ plan. To do this, within the admin console navigate to Site Settings > Site Management, and the ability to upgrade will be present. Once your site has been upgraded to this plan, you will be able to add email accounts via Site Settings > Email Accounts.

Hi,

I have a website that sells products to customers and wholesalers.

I have setup a separate secure area for both the customer and the distributor. (to view past orders/specials etc)

In top right of my site - they can click a "Login/Register" button that takes then to the login / registration page.

Here they login as a customer (or if a wholesaler they are asked to go to the wholesaler Login Page).

Once logged in the top right "Login/Register' button changes to a "Hello Name" and an "Account Overview" link.

The problem is I have to hard code the "Account Overview" link so it can only link to either the customer or wholesaler secure area overview page.

Is there anyway I can set it to recognize if a Wholesaler or a Customer logs in and display the appropriate link?

Any help would be appreciated.

Although it would be nice to handle shopping cart behavior as part of the BC framework, I was able to finally implement work arounds to do what I needed to get control over a number of validation\UI scenarios. This also helped me setup detailed Google Analytics Conversion eCommerce tracking Shopping and Checkout behavior funnels. For example, I am able to track each step in the checkout page, i.e. shipping selection activities and collect product information to later post to Google on a completed sale.

To do this, I wrapped the entire cart contents in a DIV and gave it an ID of "catCartDetails" so I can bind to it's onChange event. In the query onChange function I then bind the ajax monitoring to receive the ajax submission events made by BC when the shopping cart page is changed. This is important to handle multiple iterations based on user interactions. Inside the ajax monitor I have function calls to handle whoever is needed, in my case;

1) I have a function to handle multiple checkout validations with corresponding UI behavior and Google Analytics calls to implement the new eCommerce Checkout Funnel.

2) Correct implementation of "Continue Shopping" link that returns customer to the last page they were on.

3) Function that rebuilds mobile specific cart behavior.

SOME ADDITIONAL NOTES:

To run code specific to mobile and testing I setup a new domains, i.e. mobile.mywebsite.com and test.mywebsite.com; and created a utility controller that helps manage running code for mobile, testing, other, etc.

To not hose up your Google analytics with development\test traffic, setup filters to exclude hostname test.mywebsite.com.

To test your Google eCommerce functionality, setup a new view in Google Analytics for your domain, call it "Testing" or something like that and apply the reverse logic; by filter only include traffic from test.mywebsite.com

BC does not provide product information in the order confirmation page, which is the only place when we know the sale transaction is complete. To handle this, I configured my shopping cart layout in a way that allowed me to easily parse the BC generated product information and repackage it into a javascript class. I then created a simple utility to store this information in a jason structure as a cookie or local store if available. With this, I am able to retrieve it form the order confirmation page and assemble and send the final Google transaction post, with product information included.

I bought a domain name on godaddy,

then I put the 3 DNS ip BCatalyst at the rights places on godaddy,

then I put the name domain on the BCatalyst page of my website.

Actually when I clic on the website to see if it is correct (on my BCatalyst website page)

Safari says he can't find the page.

I am on creative cloud so I know I have the right to be hosted for 5 basic websites...

So what is this new problem ?

You get less features from the very bottom, things like no emails. What you see when you log in to the admin is what you get.

IF and when you take one of those creative sites live you need a domain, and then under site settings in the admin you can configure your domain. Lots of information on that, Lynda linked you a going live guide for example, if you read that you would see it talking about domain setup.

With a Creative Cloud BC site there is no monthly fee. Only if you upgrade or build a BC site on a different plan.

First, yes I know that I can use for 5 free sites but what means "BASIC website ?"...

Also, do these web sites be without "businesscatalyst.com at the end of the names domain of my customers ?

Is the price for a month is a price for 1 NO BASIC (?) website ???

I am also french and the prices I must give to my own customers are in euros. I can see just dollars!

it seems Adobe is always for american people and it is really difficult to find answers for french people.

Even if I love America, sometimes I feel alone in these all files we can find everywhere on the adobe platform.

I regret to lost so many times to look for an answer.

Let me see if I can answer a few questions for you:

First, you will never see a PDF guide to BC. There is too much to put into a PDF guide.

Start by reading a few resources:

The BC Documentation - BC Help & support

For additional tutorials check out Business Catalyst | BC Gurus - Note: this site has free and paid tutorials.

If you are using Creative Cloud you have five free basic sites with Business Catalyst. If you need more than a basic site you will have to upgrade your site. See this page here - US Monthly Pricing | Adobe Business Catalyst - for pricing. This applies to all sites regardless of if you are using Muse or another program.

I am unsure what you mean by "master plan". Maybe a proposal to the client? This doesn't have to do with BC and will need more detail to help you along.

Once you have your site built in BC you publish the site or take the site live with your domain name. Read the Going live guide for more information on how this works and how to do it.

Why it is so complicated to find answers about the all programs on ADOBE even if we are the real customer ???

Why don't you have a pdf guide of "how used BC" and so on for example ?

1/ where is the page with the prices for hosting websites created by MUSE ?

I must prepare a "master plan" to a customer but I have no idea about it because I can't find these details.

2/ we can be the host for few (?) of our customers websites without the businesscatalyst.com at the end of the domain name I read it....

so HOW to do that ? How it costs ? in euros please ? May I get the all details (month /years and so on)

Yes, Google Analytics will track referral traffic. If you want to tag the links, use the URL builder tool: URL builder - Analytics Help - but it should track referring sources without tagging the links.

You may want to check out the Google Analytics BC App by Thriste: BC App Store - The Business Catalyst App HQ. It seems pretty powerful and less complicated to implement than all my manual steps.

CSS is not being rendered

Hello All,

My problem is after adding CSS class to some tags and then added the elements selectors in my CSS files, they are not being rendered on my website. All the previous CSS I did is working but any new ones aren't being rendered at all. It is as if they're not even there.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so how did you solve it?

Is it possible to track and populate a report for referral sources?

I have a client that wants a report that can show traffic from their corporate site and also from the link I've created for them that they use in publications.

So I need to be able to give a monthly report to show what traffic and sales came from each funnel.

currently I just use the ( ?source= ) at the end of each link.

In Muse, create a new page based on your master page (or whatever master settings you want to use for the template). In Plan mode, right click on the new page you just created and select Menu Options > Exclude Page From Menus. Double click on the page to bring it up in Design mode.

Now you should have a page with your master header, menu items and footer. The content area between header and footer is where you will have new content. From the top menu, select Object > Insert HTML.... In the pop up window, enter the BC tag like this {tag_pagecontent}. This will place an HTML object on your page, drag/resize the object to fill the area where you will want your new content. Make sure to resize the HTML object so that it goes all the way to the bottom of your page.

Save your project and upload the new page to your BC site. In BC create a new template based on this new page. If it is to be used for the full site, select the option to make the page the default template.

That should do it.

Create external mx record with GoDaddy

I Just replaced my GoDaddy hosted website with Business Catalyst site created in Muse. I launched the site and transferred my domain to BC. Website looks and works great, except my GoDaddy hosted email no longer works. I read that I need to create an external xm record to be able to use the GoDaddy email account, but your instructions on your help section are not clear.

FOr example, instructions say to go to the site domain list and create new mx record using external email server. But it doesn'to say what to enter in the 'web server' block

ANd what's worse - my website URL does not work now. Www.videoaldeco.com. What's going on?

Not much information or detail there.

If the New meta option on pages is what you are refering to then the site in question is likely not been upgraded to that beta feature. Only partners who have access to beta options under settings can access that to upgrade.

Hi Guys,

I've been working for quite some time on a simple way to get this working and I'm now in the last stage of finishing a BC App for Google Analytics eCommerce Product Revenue Tracking with Business Catalyst.

I want to Beta test it before I release it on the App Store so if anyone's interested please let me know. There's a small setup fee, just to cover my time to manually install, so I can make any needed bug fixes. Or customise the App to handle more customised shopping carts.

I've tried my best to make it work with any BC site, especially existing sites, which has been the main hurdle.

Currently it's running on over a dozen sites with good results.

The App handles cross domain revenue tracking, tracks individual products, product attributes and product ids, order shipping locations, transation order & invoice ids, and now also handles orders from PayPal transactions.

Currently I'm only supporting Asynchronous Tracking (Not Universal) but if you have Universal installed, it will still work, but it's not loading the Universal Tracking script as Google haven't release it out of Beta.

If your Google Account is reliant on the additional features of Universal Tracking, we'll have a chat about it.

Where your main content area will be. That is up to you in terms of the build.

If you built a template in Muse that is slightly different, Probably already set up, I dont touch Muse so I am not to sure how it works fully.

If you have a template though and you want to apply it to pages you need to log into your BC website, go to a web page and set the template to use.

You can not just copy html to a template page. A template requires {tag_pagecontent} to run as a template, this renders layouts, page content etc.

Hi,

I've tried copying the HTML coding from my page to a template page, but this isn't working.

Why is this not working and how can i fix this?

Adobe does not manage domain hosting. you will need to keep your domain with your provider or move it to another if your not happy with them.

Adobe BC handles your website and the all in one sollution with hosting. You can setup and manage your domains in BC but you still need to have a domain registra with your domain.
