Hi there!

I just received my Adobe ink & Slide last week, and I was very excited.

Once received I was very frustrated because is not working at all as expected, and it draws straight lines out of the blue when touching sometimes.

Also for a couple of minutes sometimes doesn't respond.

Was hoping to get it replaced or even to be refounded but there's no way to have a direct contact with anybody on the phone, and the chat is always closed.

What's happening here? very very disappointed!

Anybody better luck with contacting customer support?

I bought a Jot instead, it's essentially the same hardware internally as Ink but in a different body. Slide is simply an alternative to using fingers, it's not connected via bluetooth. The disadvantage of the Jot is that the body is round, so it will spend some time on the floor. I would have preferred the Adobe unit, but the price and unavailability forced my decision.

The latest version of Adobe Illustrator Line can indeed send vectors over to Illustrator (also requires latex version of Illustrator CC on the desktop).

Here's how it works:

1. With the drawing open, tap the Share button and tap Send to Illustrator.

2. The drawing will open as a new document in Illustrator. At first, you will see a .png rendition of the drawing. This rendition will look just like the drawing on the iPad.

3. Select the image, then from the Object menu, choose Sketch and Line Art > Expand to Paths. Voila, you will now have the original paths you drew on the iPad. Some appearance may change since Illustrator doesn't know how to render the pencil and marker strokes that you can create in Line.

I just got a new iPad and loaded Adobe Draw and Adobe Line - beautiful, thoughtfully designed apps. Except that they are totally useless as they don't save Illustrator-editable vector artwork - as you would absolutely expect they would. I'm baffled why Adobe would fatally cripple such potentially useful apps.

Let me just ask you one more single question. If you were asked the main differences and purposes of Adobe Illustrator Draw and Adobe Illustrator Line, how would you answer?

Gustavo,

Both Illustrator Draw and Illustrator Line allow you to specify size/opacity.

In Illustrator Draw, the size and opacity controls are on the toolbar after you select a tool type.

In Illustrator Line, if you long-press on one of the tools in the bottom toolbar, the size and opacity controls will be available.

To access the color wheel, long-press on one of the colors in the color theme in the toolbar.

This issue is related to the new screen technology in the iPad Air 2. We're working with Adonit on a fix for this issue and it will be resolved in a future update to Line.

@BikerJared - I'm having the same issue with my Jot Touch. It stops marking and also makes sine like waves when drawing slowly. It seems to be an issue with the Air 2 and not the styli. According to their customer support they're working on a fix. See the link:

Just to make sure I did not miss anything.

Would it be possible to set opacity and size for brushes being used in Adobe Illustrator Line? Or this is available on in Adobe Illustrator Draw?

Also, chromatic circle for choosing colors is not a feature in Line, right?

I can't find a clear answer to this really simple question so I hope someone here can help me.

I haven't purchased my ink and slide yet, or used any of the creative cloud software. Before I do I want to make sure I understand what I can share with Line and the free level of CC. I want to use them for a particular client who is still old school. So... If I have a drawing created in Line on my ipad and a client with an older macbook pro, still running CS2 (so osx 10.6.8), and I have an ipad with Line and a free Creative Cloud membership (but no CC versions of Adobe software other than Line), is it possible to:

send her a pdf she can open and print?

send her a file she can open/edit/print in CS2?

send her anything she can open and/or edit and/or print?

Print something I can mail to her.

I guess I'm basically asking: what are my limitations for sharing/printing Line drawings with only the free CC membership?

update:

Uninstalling and re-installing the app didn't work.

most of images are still pixelated. Some of them DO load correctly....but not the ones I need!

When I load a drawing (ipad gen3), they don't clear up. They stay pixelated. I can draw over them, so they are not frozen. And the new lines appear correct.

In thumbnail view the image looks fine. But when I open the drawing it looks terrible.

If I back and open old images, they are all BAD.

I rebooted the ipad.

Im really trying to like this app.......but........

Can you move a drawing from one group to another?

The new version made all my my individual drawings into individual groups. How do you regroup? I can see how you can move around the order within a group, but cant see how to move an image from one group to another.

You would think you could hold down a drawing, then slide to the next group. But you cant....

Like the title says. I've tried penultimate, sketch, and line with the same results. I've got multi-touch gestures turned off as well as palm rejection disabled and have the same problem.

It could be an iOS 8.1 problem, as the iPad Air I tried was still running iOS 7.

EDIT: This would probably make more sense to have in the Ink & Slide forum instead of Line -- should I delete this note and add one in the other forum? Is there someone that can move it?

Yes you can return it there is a 30 day policy on that, although I think it is a really great tool, maybe you just need to give it some time and get used to it.

You should try contacting Adonit support.

Update: I emailed help@adonit.net and got a very fast response. Once I sent a video, they sent me shipping instructions to replace the Slide and I can use the Ink still in the mean time. Very good service.

Any near term hope for Ink and Slide compatibility for a samsung galaxy in the next 2-4 months? This will help me decide how to proceed I would hate to go out and buy an IOS device and soon the option comes out to use it on a android or Vaio touch screen. The product sure looks better than getting a Wacon

All apps not recognizing Slide

I just received my Ink and Slide!

However, none of the apps recognize the slide. It appears the sensor on the end away from the button is not working. I noticed this because my pinky slipped off of that end and hit the screen and suddenly the lines appeared. I've also ensured the slide is not dirty.

The stylus is fine and works perfectly and the tips in here about turning on the palm rejection were great. Should I contact Adonit?

Adobe Ink won't turn on. :-(

I've had my Adobe Ink for less than one week. I can't get it to turn on although the charger indicates that it is charged. I am frustrated. I enjoyed using it during the brief time it worked. Do you have any advice on how to get it to work again?

i just had a break through to this exact problem.

turns out the iPad time/date was wrong. it was one day behind. i fixed that and immediately "send to illustrator" works from adobe draw!

Hi Tmhenton,

I'm running iOS 8.0.2 and it is working okay for me. I'm able to view all the projects and their drawings and when not in an individual drawing and can use pinch or expand gestures to zoom in or out for the project/drawings thumbnail view.

I can rename projects doing the following (click to view larger)

You might try these if you're having difficulties

Completely power off and back on your iPad. long hold the power button
Backup any projects/drawing you want to save and reinstall the app

Hi Shibdon,

I think if you created a black and white drawing in Adobe Line you would need to send it to one of the Adobe desktop apps in order to change the white background to transparent. When viewing an individual drawing there is an option in the top right for sending to Photoshop or Illustrator

Absolutely. Having spent over 20 years using computers for film and animation, for me a useful piece of software is one that has as many import and export options as possible - that makes it versatile and means it gets used a lot. As soon as you limit the file formats it excludes itself from many workflows - and gets used less often.

It's incredible to experiment so many difficulties for so simple actions, I'd like to use more Ideas or Draw but there are so many vector app like Inkpad, Idraw, concepts or paintbook all exporting simply vector format through svg or pdf and email or dropbox. Adobe try to force us to use their cloud and don't want to know that we sometimes need other ways…

Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately as my copy of Illustrator isn't CC I don't get that option. So it's jpeg and png only unless I use Adobe Ideas.

From Illustrator draw when you're in a drawing, use the send icon and choose send to illustrator, it will directly come in Illustrator on your desktop.

How do you get them from Illustrator Draw into Illustrator? The only options I see are for jpg or png. Thanks for any help!

Update: I suspect it's not working for me because I have Illustrator CS5.1 and not CC. If that's the case I think it's quite a restrictive idea. As an artist unleashing your creativity you might want to use a whole range of tools and apps available to you - not just be locked into those Adobe offer. Looks like I'll have to stick with Ideas app for now.

I updated everything yesterday, but just to be safe I checked version numbers:

CC App: Version 1.8.0.447

AI: 18.1.0

PS: 20140926.r.236 x64

As I said, it did launch the files on my older laptop, so I'm sure the backend functionality is working from the iPad to the service, but for some reason on the new laptop it's not getting from the service to the desktop. I think the next thing I'll try is to uninstall everything and reinstall.

Yes this is the answer I got from the team, this way works well to get simple line works, otherwise, if using many brushes and colors you don't get a vector shape similar to your Line artwork.

You can although try the new app Illustrator draw and get a real vector drawing in Illustrator, this new app has layers, this is Ideas with the new rulers, but you get your strokes as vector forms and not strokes in Illustrator.

In AI go to OBJECT>SKETCH and LINE ART>EXPAND TO PATHS

Unfortunately it seems to revert all strokes to a simple brush. It does not keep any of the texture, opacity or hand drawn quality...

Yes, I am having the same issue! It clearly says in the app update that "illustrator cc 2014 now lets you expand to paths". Has anyone managed to get this working? Whats going on Adobe?

Hi,

In Adobe Line 2.0, you can still do "Save Image", "Send email", etc. This functionality is available in the editing window of your artwork, and no longer in the Gallery viewing section. While in the editing window of your artwork, tap in the Share icon and you should see the following options :

Get Feedback

Copy Image to Creative Cloud

Send to Photoshop ( for Creative Cloud paying subscribers)

Send to Illustrator ( for Creative Cloud paying subscribers)

Share...

- AirDrop

- Mail

- Save Image and Copy

Hi Peter,

The Send to Illustrator/Photoshop operation sends the file to all of the machines linked to the same account you sent the file from in the Mobile apps. The first time after you restart the Creative Cloud app, the Send to... operation can take longer to receive these notifications to launch the desktop app and open the file, specially with older releases of the Creative Cloud app. Can you confirm your version for the Creative Cloud app? The latest version is 1.8.0.447. You can find this information in:

Settings\Preferences\General Tab\Account

Also, updated versions for Adobe Illustrator is 18.1.0 and Adobe Photoshop is 20140926.r.236

Downloaded today the new Adobe draw which replace now adobe Ideas, rulers are are implemented, this is a good thing and you can export vector files to Illustrator. But strokes are exported as vector forms (like it was in Ideas) so you can't easily move your strokes in Illustrator or adjust their size. We have then tons of app by adobe I understand your marketing thinking to make us use your cloud, but it's now difficult for me to choose between those app, what is the interest of Line between Sketch and Illustrator draw ? And two others app to make shapes and brushes, and one other for colors and and and…………this is a cloudy cloud !
