I need help. My device license was working fine for some time. All of the sudden , it went back to trial mode. Can anyone help me fix this? any suggestions?

I simply took ownership of AAM Updates Notifier.exe in (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\UWA) and deleted it, lets see what happens...

Another extremely entertaining Adobe "Support" (not) thread. This is malware. It matches all the criteria:

* tricks people to spend more money by having them make wrong assumptions (trails should never have an "install" button whithout a warning that it is acutally only a trail, especially in a software listing installed components)

* installs itself without the user acknowleding the installation

* cannot be removed

and not listing this under a bullet point, because I do not have prove, might serve as backdoor to whatever.

As a security researcher put it: if Adobe didn't exist, NSA would have to invent it.

I can't believe people are paying money for this.

I know how you feel! Mine randomly went over to trial, and kept popping up saying I have seven days left. So I pissed the Adobe Application Manager off. All I did was this:

Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core

And then delete these files:

Now when that ****** Adobe App Manager tries to run, it just pops up an error that it's corrupted! Hoor-ah! Now you don't have to deal with any trial messages or **** like that.

If Adobe Application Manager is required for all CS products, why does it require me to purchase CC after the 30 day trial runs out? When I try to open Application Manager, it asks for my CC password, which no longer works because I don't wish to pay for it.

I have a business liscense for CS5 and Illustrator 6. I also have a personal CC account and am trying to add CC to my work computer because we don't have access to some of the programs I need. . I can't get around the Application Manager issues and the CC desktop continues to fail to install. I tried clearing out the app manager and the cc desktop attempts with Creative clean up but still to no avail. Any ideas on how to get my CC up an running on my hp with win?

Thanks for the information. Can you address the issues with application updates failing? I have been trying for more than a week and have had little success. Of 17 applications that need bug fix updates, only one has been successful. I am attempting to update them one at a time because in the past trying to update all at once has been a nightmare.

Perhaps you could answer it here, or on the discussions about the failures?

This is a follow up to my previous post (#116) on this thread.

Creating the "AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat" file that prevents Adobe Application Manager from automatically updating software (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/disable-auto-updates-application-manager.html) can interfere with the manual update process.

Today I tried to run an update that I manually downloaded but received the error message that updates were suppressed.

To allow updates, I simply renamed the .dat file I had created and ran the updater again. Once the update was successful, I returned the file its original name, "AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat".

PS. Installing (or updating, not sure which) Adobe Software can override the Security settings of PDapp.exe. If you had edited these settings (see post #116 on this thread), you may need to re-edit them after the installer is done.

No expierence with previous versions of Elements, Version 11 was my first. I wouldn't be concerned with AAM now that it's been changed. The only other Adobe product I have installed is "Reader XI". It also checks for updates from within its program.

My problem with the origional AAM was frequent crashes and the fact that every time I would check for updates on Elements or Reader, I would have to sign in to AAM and it would "pimp" me to try "trial versions" of all of the other Adobe products.

Go ahead and try Elements 11, but make sure you get the latest update. Also, you may also want to get a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Classroom In A Book. It's a very good tutorial - comes with a CD and walks you through different functions of editing.

When I first installed Elements 11 (about a year ago), AAM was installed as a separate program. I had several problems with it. After installing the most recent update, an update function is now built into Elements 11, no problems now. I just select "Updates ....." from within Elements 11, a window opens titled "Adobe Application Manager". This window has a preferences tab that shows any Adobe programs you have installed (check "Elements 11"). There are also a couple of other options on the preferences tab.

So after reading all this, two questions please ... as I've just bought photoshop elements 11 and have NOT installed it as yet.

1. Can I proceed with the installation and avoid loading AAM?

2. If I can't, what was the last elements release that did NOT include AAM?

P.S I only use an old version of acrobat insofar as adobe products are concerned.

Mid October 2013; it has now been 3 yrs since the problems with this software were first discussed here and today I ran into the same problem. Adobe Application Manager was installed without my prompting, with no way to remove it within Add/Remove Programs.

You can also just prevent the AAM from running by editing the security permissions of its executable file (PDapp.exe). On my system it is in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core', but you can find it on yours by right-clicking the Adobe Application Manager shortcut on your desktop, going to the 'Shortcut' tab and looking at the 'Target' field.

To prevent PDapp.exe from running (on Windows Vista or 7), right-click -> Properties -> security tab. In the "Group or user names" box, select SYSTEM; you will see in the "Permissions" box that "Full Control" is checked. Deny SYSTEM all permissions by clicking "Edit" button between the boxes, and check "Deny" on the Full Control line.

Try using your software after that. You can always come back and uncheck the "Deny" boxes if you run into trouble. From the comments above by Adobe staff, you will probably run into trouble if you are a Creative Cloud customer. Remember that you can manually check for updates and patches at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html.

Count me in as another who is extremely unhappy about not being able to easily remove the 100% unnecessary AAM.

I have used Adobe products on and off for years and am surprised nobody else has brought up the point that Adobe has historically had difficulties performing simple install and update tasks. It must be in their genetic code but at least in my experience the people who have been on their app install "teams" have been poorly managed.

I'm at the point where I'll put up with a lesser UI to be rid of bloatware.

I would like to echo most of the users in here. I have tried everything I have read and been advised to to. This inclused over 6 hours of the phone with Adobe Support. All they can tell me now is to uninstall all Adobe programs related to CS6 and reinstall. Fat chance! My luck, it would never reinstall and I would be left with nothing! Without APplication Manager update, NONE of my CS6 programs will update.Adobe keeps escalating this up the food chain. I am curious how many levels of support there are? They all keep telling me to do the same thing but nothing works. In my life, that is called insanity! I just want the Camera Raw update! It works fine on my other computer. Why would I want to uninstall ALL of the programs just to get this one to work? Sounds a little counter intuitive to me. Won't Application Manager still require an update after everything is install again? More wasted time. If I could jsut update the new camera raw, I would let it go...for now. Even the newest update released on June 7th doesn't work. I have followed the instructions and steps (except reinstalling everything) that everyone has posted here. There has to be a soloution! If anyone gets one, please share!

The great thing for me is that i downloaded this because i wanted to try photoshop before i bought it. It was recommended that i get AAM and Adobe has been trusted for a long while so i followed the reccomendations. Now i have a lot of Adobe applications i did not want, did not agree to install and will never use.

Since Adobe haven't really provided a solution, I encourage everyone who is angry about Adobe tricking people into installing Malware to email whoever provides their internet security and ask them to provide a way to kill or uninstall AAM.

Congratulations Adobe, i will treat all your products with suspicion now.

In case you haven't noticed most people HATE adobe application manager.

This is just another in a long line of bloated,resource hogging,stealthy and unnecessary software provided by Adobe.

Is it incompetence, stupidity, evil or some combination thereof that makes Adobe continue to defecate on their customers?

FYI cleanup tool didn't work. AAM still appears on my start menu and the files were not removed.

I've had a very quick play last night and found that GIMP does a lot of things PS does, and just as fast, and just as well, and even improves on some of the features that are standard in PS.

One thing it's just not as good at is the brush tool. It's a little jerky and doesn't fill in the gaps between strokes; I would have expected that the slower you went the darker the brush tones would be, and the faster, the lighter, just as with a real paint brush, though I didn't test many of the settings.

I've had a longer play and found that it's just a setting. All good!

The selection tools that are available seem to be a little clunky at first, but are possibly more sensitive than PS; I always found that selecting with a mouse in PS was quite a pain in the backside - it would seem to partially lock to a row of pixels or similar until you made a decided move away from the row then you'd get a chunk added in or missing from your selection. GIMP seems to be very smooth in that respect. In fact I would recommend zooming in so that you're sure you haven't accidentally under or over selected (with the sensitivity as it is).

GIMP's interface used to be aimed at the traditional Mac type interface wth a menu fixed at the top of the screen, free floating image windows and free floating tool boxes. The menu is now fixed to the top of each image window - far better. Its optimal usage would be a two or three monitor set-up.

One of the missing features of GIMP are the layer effects; these aren't imported using GIMP from a PS file and the effects would have to be manually created, though I'll wager this will change.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed. My only problem is that I rely quite heavily (unfortunately) on the layer effects availlable on PS. At the moment I can't change. I dare say, however, that it could probably give PS a run for its money on the photo editing side of things. It would be nice for a photographer to try it out and feed back.

My "Adobe Application Manager" died last night, wouldn't load or run. AAM would not run from within Photoshop Elements 11 or by opening the AAM program.

The Adobe service tec was great. On chat, he walked me through removing the old AAM system files and replacing with new files.

This whole fiasco with AAM reminds me of the "New Coca-Cola" back in 1985. Nobody wanted it, needed it or liked it.

Corel, FileMaker and many others have figured out how to incorporate an "update" function from their programs, so it must not be that difficult.

Adobe managements position appears to be "you will use AAM and you will like AAM".

I haven't tried it in a few years so maybe it's gotten better. I always hated the interface myself. I've always used either Corel PhotoPaint or Adobe Photoshop. I'm planning to switch over to Corel suite since I also need a replacement for my very old Illustrator 10. The only thing I will faithfully upgrade is Adobe Acrobat if it's still available as perpetual otherwise I'll keep what I have until it no longer works. Premiere Pro could be a problem finding an alternative for since I'm so used to it and have been using it since the first version.

Wow! I'm obviously wasted here...

I've reloaded Gimp to have a look and it looks better than it used to be. It certainly used to do quite a lot of things well that PS did for a very expensive price tag. I don't know if this used to be true, but the version I have here (2.8) will load PS stuff too!

Eventually I'm going to switch back over to Corel's products where I started from. I don't want to have to learn another program after all these years especially Gimp which I didn't like the last time I downloaded it. Besides, Gimp isn't the only solution. I have more Adobe products other than Photoshop.

It's not a marketing tool. It's just a horrible application. When you consider how much your software costs, it's an absurdity that the downloader is so feature-free. It doesn't even do a HDD check to make sure you have SPACE to install your applications. Nope. It just tries and fails. And sometimes it just returns an error like, "Sorry, something went wrong." Gee, thanks for the information! I just spent two hours installing AI on my second computer for five minutes of work. Because I had to download AI three times before it installed it successfully. Because even when it did, it took nearly an hour to install and patch.

You guys need to get your.. stuff.. together. It's absurd that paying customers have to struggle with this stuff this much.

Horrible program. Horrible, horrible program.

I too had accidentally installed this piece of junk by mistake, simply because I wanted to try PS CS6 before purchasing. It never even could initialize the download correctly... so I gave up.

Couldn't get rid of this awful piece of malware, so in case you have not tried it yet my solution to comletely rid my machine of all registry keys and files was a System Restore.

On Windows 7 simply open the start menu and type "System restore" and MANUALLY choose the latest restore point BEFORE you installed AAM. NOTICE AAM will not show up in the list of "affected programs" to be deleted, but proceed anyway.

That's how I got rid of it.

I consider myself an experienced (and careful) PC user. However, when I installed "PhotoShop Elements 11", I got the impression that there was no choice but to install the "Application Manager". After all of the confussion and time involved on this subject, I hope Adobe will be more careful in the future when attaching such items to their software.

I tried to update the Application Manager and received an error...not installed correctly.

What I'm actually trying to do is update Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader because with InDesign CS6, I cannot preview the pdf file in Acrobat after exporting. This is a new problem (March 9, 2013)

It is not required for LR stand-alone. I wound up with it when I downloaded a PS trial and now I have no need of it because it won't even apply updates for LR on OSX mountain lion.

Do you have screenshots for the Windows version? I think some of us may have problems with it.

When I see the command prompt, I type "e" for English version, then "y" for the agreement, then "3" for Creative Cloud, but after that I see only two options:

1. Adobe Photoshop CS6 Driver

2. Clean All.

Please enter the option number of the product you wish to remove; enter <q> to quit...

I don't want to remove Photoshop or anything else, I want to remove Adobe Application Manager, but there is no such entry in the list. Am I doing anything wrong?

I was a bit behind on reading recent posts. After looking at the entire thread again, I am truly offended by the recurring assertions that the Adobe Application Manager is not a mechanism to push trial software on unsuspecting patrons. Please just call it what it is (e.g., a poor marketing decision, a mistake, and lack of respect for your customers), and please stop insulting our intelligence with illogical, incomplete and/or dismissive explanations for this covert and misleading marketing debacle. Adobe needs to realize that user patronage should not be taken for granted, and consumer trust is easily lost and difficult to regain.

How much longer is it going to take for the ADOBE APPLICATIONS MANAGER to see what ADOBE APPLICATIONS are installed on my computer?
