Yes, I agree :

1 - the download option is changed automatically.

2 - this does not affect the APD, which still offers YYYYMMDD

Nr 1 is misleading and I did lose a lot of time trying to get around the lack of a proper choice without realizing that had no effect on the APD date scheme.

There was the additional PSE10 real bug which resulted in an Adobe patch (which I installed) to solve the problem : that did confuse things a little more...

Since the downloader ignores the preferences, that explains not many (European) users have noticed the lack of logic in the preferences.

Now, there are several ways to get around that problem:

- offer the complete date scheme set in the preferences for APD independently from the date display choice

- don't state a choice for APD at all in the preferences

- last but not least : I maintain that only YYYYMMDD has some meaning for a folder tree : why offer a choice in the preference or in the downloader itself ? Would not it be the simplest and wisest course to follow ?

Also, it sounds like you are not using APD, and letting the instant, automatic download of files when you plug-in your camera (at least, that is the only way I can see this bug actually playing out).

I don't think we've had this level of detail on this particular issue before. I think a lot of these settings have been taken for granted, and it also was getting mixed in and confussed with a number of other Date bugs in Organizer (which should be fixed in PSE11). I'll log the bug on this to get it fixed, assuming my understanding above is correct.

Exactly.

Since I want the date shown in DDMMYYYY in the thumbnail view (normal use here) the preference dialog was as shown in my screenshot. I suspect there was and still is a bug in the preference dialog for which the workaround has been to change the downloader to ignore the preference setting and offer a correct default in its menu... As I said, that works for me but that should be corrected.

EDIT:

I just checked that it was the same in older Elements versions ... (PSE6).

I just noticed that if in the general tab, date format is MM/DD/YYYY then Camera preferenes shows Shot date in the format i.e yyyy mm dd. If the format in the general tab is changed to DD/MM/YYYY then Camera preferences shows the format as yyyy dd mm.

Since you can see the difference in my screenshot, do you think it has something to do with my French Windows XP version ?

I am finding the same option in Preference dialog as it is in downloader dialog. It is shown corrrectly in preferences dialog (screenshot attached)

You are right, the option is present in the downloader dialog, but not in the preferences (see screenshot) = create Subfolders Using ...

I am satisfied if I can choose the right template for dates, but the message is clearly wrong in the preference dialog.

It seems that the good choice is offered as default in the downloader, that should prevent being obliged to set the choice for each import batch.

I was just trying to check the behaviour of PSE11 re date formats.

First of all I do not understand how long it takes for the preference dialog to appear (without any waiting message or hourglas...)

Then, I wanted to be sure that the downloader had been corrected with the last patch used for PSE10:

- I want YYYYMMDD (YYYYDDMM is stupid for a folder tree ). No way to do that, only YYYYDDMM...

- I change the date format in the general tab to MMDDYY (which is not the usual format in Europe), and then I can use the required YYYYMMDD scheme for the downloader

So, in my opinion, there is still a BUG in the date format. I should be able to choose the date format in the general tab for normal date display and independently the YYYYMMDD scheme for date folder tree in the downloader.

I am on Win XP, French edition.
