DPS has been crying out for the ability to disable swiping since day one in my opinion. The argument that the feature is 'for publishing apps' doesn't make sense because it is just digitally replicating a limitation (linear progress) that print has to live with. Also, publishing exists in guises other than print magazines. DPS shouldn't build in limitations like this just because print magazines have to deal with them.

Yes, being able to turn of page navigation completely would be very usefull. This makes it possible to build your own navigation inside the page and prevent users from accedently moving to the next article by swiping.

Totally with Tara on this - and a considerable portion of DPS designers it seems. I was very sceptical when I heard about the possibility of designing apps with InDesign, but I was actually surprised by it's posibilities. This has great potential, but the e-publish style viewer is a big disadvantage for those wanting to take things a little further - customization or additional viewers to choose from should really be an option for this to hold some weight as a platform for designing apps.

We'll agree to disagree. It is an absolutely fundamental feature of DPS apps, which means it automatically influences every single design that uses it. I'd say such fundamentals are very important.

I had to move my projects to the Aquafadas solution, then you'll have the control over what you want on the screen for the reader, or no.

It may or may not be on Adobe's roadmap but I can tell you that I think

there are a whole host of things way more important to the majority of

users. I'm not saying it's not legitimate, just trying to control

expectations.

That's true, but I have found some clients are confused by the built-in page swipe for magazine style apps, even with very simple and clean UI. I see it as essential that this functionality can be controlled by the designer/developer.

Just be aware that the InDesign based solutions out there are designed for publishers, not developers. If you want a real app, you're going to need to look elsewhere.

Yes, it is essential now. It is limiting the amount of non-magazine apps I can properly produce, which means I am looking elsewhere for different solutions.

Yes, DPS could be a great tool for creating interactive experiences apart from those we've come to associate with the digital magazine model. While there are workarounds for disabling the overlay and swiping, they are not foolproof. And the ability to define an InDesign layer (or layers) as non-scrolling would be very helpful, too. You could create your own custom navigation and UI overlays this way

Amen. DPS should be thinking way beyond magazines. Some of us don't need to transition from legacy workflows of print.

I also agree with tara330 about disabling h/v swiping. I believe that having the options of disabling or enabling on certain pages would help the design process a lot! I've also been trying to find work arounds, but not always having consistent results.

If this has already been requested, I apologize for the duplicate request. For those developers using DPS outsde of the magazine/publishing industry please make it possible to disable either horizontal or vertical swiping (or both) so that the user must utilize navigation created by the developer.
