That would be a feature request and not a fix.

There is no _nolink for that, only on images and the name(list view)

For a datasource tag you have {tag_item} {tag_item_id} for a data source.

Availible tags from your web app will all list in the toolbox in the admin.

@rocket.fuel - The main concept here is just allowing another way to connect two web app data together besides using the traditional "datasource tag". At the moment the linking is only by IDs or app item name.

@Interactive Bytes - I've confirmed that the "nolink" reference are not working in both list/details layout. We're currently investigating and I'll update this thread once I hear back with hopefully an ETA.

Thanks...when you said screencast I was thinking a whole presentation...aargh. Either way, link didn't work.

Do you have any examples of how one would use this?

Are you limited to just the ID field or can you pull data from other fields within the other webapp?

Hi Sidney,

Can you please tell me if the tag {tag_*datasource*_nolink} is working as per the March 2013 Update. This is the text from the blog post.

"For example, assuming “author” is a data source, you will now have access to {tag_author_nolink} and {tag_author_id} from all templates".

I would really appreciate an answer from this as it's been said it's available, but not actually working.

The screencast is showing in my previous post. The link is to my site that shows the output of these various tags.

Here's another snapshot of both backend and frontend view.

Based on my testing these tags are still outputting as expected.

The link you gave above to the screencast seems to go nowhere. Is it still available?

I don't mean to be mean but I wish Adobe would do a much better job with documentation and examples. Everyone on the forums has always been very helpful but things like this should be in documented and illustrated. I'm no rocket scientist web developer but I've waisted more time hunting down things I can't figure out about BC that aren't written anywhere except in a forum post someplace. Better documentation would eliminate half of everyone's questions on the forum.

Kiyuco dedicated an podcast about this new tag and linking webapps but it's not worth it to me to pay a monthly fee to someone just for basic instructions.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

So does that link still work?

Am I not reading this right? It's so hard to guess what has been included in an update and not. Stupid me for not confirming what BC said is correct before offering this as a solution to a lack in functionality that a client would like.

If I could get clarification that would be awesome, or at least a timeframe on when it might be released. Thanks.

There is no _nolink for datasource fields. Never has been. The new tag renders the ID.

We are announcing a new Business Catalyst release, scheduled to go live on Tuesday, March 26th, between 1AM - 6AM PST.

Minor enhancements and cosmetic improvements

When disabling the web app item detail page a web app, the system will now hide the web app item URL, web app item preview, web app detail templates
Fixed some Internet Explorer 10 issues, impacting the WYSIWYG editor and the lists from the admin interface
Email campaigns wizard will now display the time zone to offer a better indication on when the campaign is scheduled to be sent
Page redirect protection will be enabled for all sites; if you plan to redirect users to external sites using PageID parameter, than you should whitelist the URL through the Secure Domain Redirect interface

Hi Jack,

Let me help explain what tags we have presently that provides details about webapp A and B. It seems you might be slightly confused on the purpose of some of these tags and what they intend to output.

Here's a screen cast of an example located on my test site: http://test0101.testsuite.biz/test/test1

This is pretty much how it'll work based on the tags that we have available at this stage. If you are looking to set something up a bit differently let us know so we can possibly help you further.

In the meanwhile, many of these tags where just recently introduced in our March release. More details under "web app improvements".

Hi,

I get the concept of linking to another web app but Im not sure how you go about it.

I have 2 web apps A and B.
In A I set Field type to data source and set data source as B
I then go into the detailed layout
i find the module I want to add {tag_B_id}
I go webapp A and create a new item and choose the Item I want to use in B

Then when I preview the page all I get is a link to B webapp. Is there a tag I am missing or do I need to include the field from webapp B ?

Hey,

In the example above, "Author" is the name of the field that's set to be type datasource, pulling data from another webapp.

To take a live example, let's say that you have a webapp called Blog-Posts and one named Authors. The Blog-Posts webapp has a field called blog-post-author, which you set to be of type Datasource, and select Authors as the other webapp.

To display the id you'd use {tag_blog-post-author_id} - and this tag should show in the data panel when you're working on the layouts for the Blog-Posts webapp.

If this is not working, let me know the site URL and I'll take a closer look.

Anyone got this working after the system update? The tag is not available in the admin tool box and if manually entered, is not rendering any data either.

It seems that the validation on that field in the Secure Domain Redirect was broken. It wouldnt allow to add www. part of the domain so it would not redirect that domain(I tried this 30 mins ago). Now talked to support and they were able to add them.

Problem solved.

PS: Currently the field is also not accepting spaces into the field.

PPS: is there any chance this feature could be turned off in the future? This seems like another layer of management the Partners will have to manage instead of the system managing it.

I have a current site where the Ad Rotator points to an external link and when clicked the link goes to redirect page asks the use to go there or not.

This behavior is new and I assumed "Page redirect protection" is responsible for it. Am I wrong?

This is horrible, why would you guys enable page redirect protection for everybody? Is there a way to turn it off?
