True, but you'd think newer movies would be using and refining his process/equipment.

I don't remember the details, but I did read that James Cameron and his team invented (?... or vastly refined) new cameras to film Avatar... adding something like 2-3 years to the production time

So, it doesn't surprise me that Avatar looks the best in 3D

Hope you enjoy comparing The Guardian with Avatar

I did get that chance yesterday.

I've seen three full moves in 3D so far and lengthy clips from four others. By far the best looking 3D is Avatar. It is the most 'realistic', coming across not as an effect, but simply as genuine depth of field you'd see with your eyes if you were actually there. It even beat out The Hobbit and Iron Man 3 which I saw in theaters.

Will be there in October, and WILL spend some time looking for (or maybe AT) her. IIRC, our hotel has about 8 BBC channels, then several SKY and one Bloomberg. There are dozens of others, but they are mostly "foreign language" channels, and run the gamut from a dozen Asian, a dozen African and every Middle Eastern language imaginable. Recently, they added several Eastern European language channels, but I cannot tell Russian from Romanian.

Thanks for the H/U. Should enhance my viewing pleasure. I can just imagine my wife's comments, "Since when did you become interested in cricket?" "Hush dear, he just pitched a googley... "

The only 3D we get in the UK is Sky sattelite, so it will probably be shown in 3D with it being our own F1 race

Alas that means there would be no Suzi.....................................but I could watch her during the build up and switch to 3D for the race.

Silverstone...................acres of mud...............the queues to get in.....................the overinflated prices (Adobe must have learned pricing from Bernie Ecclestone) .......the queues to get out.................the smell of burning rubber.....................the burgers that have been on the grill since last years race..............................the £100/$150 Ferrari Tee Shirt..................the fact that if you stand in a certain location you can only see 100 yards of the track and have no large screen.....................the Red Arrows (best in the world)...............the cars going through Becketts...............Hamiliton or Button or Di Resta or Chilton winning (well we can dream).............................. but most of all seeing Suzi Perry the lead presenter on the BBC

Ooooh, you mean soccer.

I found the 3D in Guardian pretty well done, but a relative says Avatar beats it by far. I'll have to give that a viewing tomorrow, see for myself.

Haven't seen that movie, and won't as I don't have a 3D player OR television... but I can imagine it gave a whole new meaning to "busting out all over"

As far as 3D for the home... makes me wonder if Adobe will "ever" put the effort into 3D editing as a "native" codec support

My experiences with 3D go way, way back, and after one has experienced the visual "hooks" one time, they sort of become boring. I cannot recall a theater film that I have recently seen in 3D, so the whole process has probably gotten much better. I have watched some 3D TV, and it was OK, but not good enough to convince me to invest in the technology. I probably need to get into the theater more often.

We have 1 3D channel in the UK, very limited content, some like football (the proper football not the American one with the odd shaped ball) is pretty dire to watch.

So far the animation The Legend of the Guardian (or something like it) is the best, far far better effects than Avatar

In the consumer electronics market, 3D TV is being seen as a bust.

Whether it sticks around, or even advances for commercial film releases, will remain to be seen.

We'll see.
