Hi I'm new to PC building/components. I have a question -- I see a lot of people on here interested in the 4770k 3.5ghz - why wouldn't you go for the newer 4790k 4.0ghz? It's only slightly more expensive.

My current working spreadsheet has a $375 difference... which is about what I would pay for a new "combo" still-video camera (Canon SX510) so still thinking

I looked at a similar scenario myself recently. I settled on the 4770. For my needs, the very small performance improvement I'd see didn't justify the extra money for the 4930.

Now...just waiting for the checks to arrive so I can click Submit at Newegg...

I am "pondering" the price/performance difference between an i7-4770k computer and an i7-4930k computer

Price is "about" $1,850 versus $2,250 so now I need to decide if my next "home video" computer needs to be the i7-4770k or an i7-4930k

I am NOT worried about the number of PCI lanes, since I will NOT have a RAID controller or anything else that would "steal" PCI lanes from an nVidia card

I have read someone say that the i7-4770k gives "90%" of the performance of the i7-4930k at "60%" of the price... which may be enough for my home video editing... unless I just decide to go ahead and build based on the 2011 platform versus the 1150 platform

No I was thinking wrong since the socket 2011 dont come with a fan but the 1150's do. Sorry about that.

Yep... 3 different videos all show a fan/heatsink in the retail box... I wonder if Eric is not seeing a fan/heatsink because ADK buys a "bulk" builder version?

Anyway... I do not overclock, and the full tower case I will someday buy for a new build has a 200mm side fan to blow cool air onto the CPU cooler, so I think the stock Intel cooler will be all I need http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119225

Actually they DO come with fan, heatsink and thermal paste. You can search for "i7 4770k unboxing" on Youtube for yourself.

I am GUESSING this means that Intel does not have a CPU cooler in the retail box... is that correct?
