I also have this problem with Edge Animate. It runs at 1 (one) Frames per second.

When I undock one of the panels, the panel itself runs quite smoothly in it's own window. So I think the problem has to do with drawing/refreshing the stage.

And Edge Animate is always at 100% CPU usage when even just scrolling an empty stage window.

I am not behind a proxy, I also tried the "offline-trick", I even uninstalled the first Edge Animate Preview (which ran quite smoothly, like expected).

My specs:

win 7 64 bits,

i7 2760QM (Quadcore @ 2.4 GHZ),

32GB Ram,

2 x 1TB SSD,

nVidia Quadro 2000M (2GB)

...in a DELL M4600 notebook.

Right now the application is not usable at all. I have also filed a bug report for this issue.

I don't use any kind of proxy at all, but when working with relatively large files (more than 25 PNG images, more than 25 symbols, etc.) Animate becomes the slowest tool I've been working so far, almost to the point I cannot keep working.

Still nothing? This program is almost not usable because of everything working so slowly. I have to wait 1 second after doing something to get any response from program. Moving items is so slow, that i had to make many corrections.

It seems Adobe still has no clue how to help us.

I bought a new laptop recently and installed CC on it. It works fine on the laptop but is still lagging on my main computer.

Hopefully Adobe will figure something out. They should realize that for each individual taking the time to find this forum and writing a post in here, there is probably a few thousand more who are just frustrated and SILENT but with the same problem...

Let's hope it gets fixed...

Same here, anyone has anything??

Nothing of the above works and i am not behind a proxy nor a firewall besides windows. The "lag" for those who don't have it and don't understand what we mean, is that almost any movement and specially when animating takes seconds to respond. You move the mouse and wait for the object to 'follow'it. THis makes production EXTREMELY slow and we have ongoing projects that we can't start on an other application all over! Please fix!

To continue on my previous posts, I just installed Edge Animate CC 2014 and got a message that Windows Firewall had blocked features of Edge Animate CC 2014.0.

A message similar to what you can see on this page: Windows Firewall has blocked Adobe Muse

As suggested in the page, I clicked both options and then clicked on Allow access. I thought this would finally solve the lag issue. But no.

I opened Animate and it seemed to be lagging even more than before................

So the problem is still there and I (and we) have no clue when there will be a fix for this problem. My lag problem is also not network-related. Could someone please give us an indication of when we can expect the fix or if they are even working on a fix?

This works if the configuration is manual, what if my mac is behind an external proxy and this is configured automatically? as in "Automatic Proxy Configuration", where no port number is provided, what I get whenever I start Edge is a 504 message where the initial html document should be, same happens with the right side bar (Lessons side bar), thanx i.a.

Hey Hi,

Does lag in animate stop if you disconnect your computer from internet?

What color settings have you chosen in your computer,we have observed that having non default color settings sometimes causes lag in Win8.1.

Yes I am at a loss as to what could cause the lag. I have used every version of EA, even as far back as the preview versions and have not hit the 'lag' issues as described.

So hopefully a dev member can further assist or clarify/pinpoint a solution.

I hope something can be done but it is always hard to pinpoint what the problem is since there are hundreds of specs out there. I have Animate on a windows 7 and a windows 8.1 and have no problem. Why you do and I don't is a mystery to me.

Another observation: I've used the preview versions quite often. There has never been a lag. Stopped using it to wait for the sound option (as the work arounds were too much hassle for me).

Now EA has sound capabilities, but hangs... :-/

I placed my C drive on my SSD to have my OS and all programs load faster. Therefore yes EA is on my SSD but yes it is also where it should be: on the boot sector. This means EA loads real fast! Then moves to a crawl... It just makes it even weirder.

Your specs mentions a Solid State Drive (SSD), when you installed EA did you by chance customize the install location? In other words, the default install is boot sector (usually C:), I am wondering if you chose the SSD drive instead of the default. I have seen other reports of 'lags' in operation when folks decide to install (and I mean with other applications in general, not just EA) on a SSD.

Thanks "Redesign" but this is all happening on my home computer. Not a network. My internet connection is also not via wifi. The internet cable goes through my wifi router before going in my computer though. Not sure if connecting directly would change anything.

I do not know if you would like to try this but it may be worth your time. If I understand well you are part of a network. When I had trouble 2 years ago, I took my system off the network and put it on another wifi system. Then the problem stopped. This helped me determine there was something with the network and my IT guys corrected it after calling above and asking a few questions.

Might not be what you want to do and might not be related to network configuration either. Just a thought.

1. I do have Admin privileges on my PC

2. My machine has more than the specifications :
a. It runs an i7, 64 processor

     b. I have 12 Gb of DDR3 Ram
     c. I have loads of space of my 240GB SSD and 1Tb HDD
     d, Available screen resolutions are way above what is required
3. Upon installation I was never prompted to accept or reject anything. Here are the steps I went through:

I. I first installed the trial of Edge Animate and before trying it (why did I not wait a second...)
II. I bought a license for Creative Cloud...
III. Then I tried it and it was laggy.

IV. Then I swore extensively in French Canadian. A necessary step in recovering from screwing yourself.
V. Then I tried all possible means of enhancing the performance but to no avail...

Maybe there's something that could be done with this "granting access to a localhost port"... But you say that without it, the preview option will not work... But the preview option (you mean Ctrl+Enter?) DOES work... So I'm still confused...

Back to step IV, I guess.

I count myself lucky, the repair/replacement turnaround was reasonable. I have heard horror stories of folks waiting over a week for a replacement.

Edge Animate can run offline. Try it it for an hour - disable your wifi.

Last weekend, my cable modem burned out and I was without internet for 2 straight days (felt like forever), but during that period I was able to use any of my CC applications, including Edge Animate, without any lag or issues.

The only communication it needs to Adobe is the verification or a subscription (and or update) check once or twice within the month of the subscription or trial period.

I do not think you can run Animate if you have no access to Internet which seems to suggest that there is some communication with Adobe especially for credentials and version checking, at least when you start Animate which sometimes causes problems when these information are not provided to Adobe by your app on your computer. I am not saying that there is a total back and forth communication but there is at start for sure and this is part of the reason why many people have problems with Animate.

You're making a point. I am still wondering where the problem is since it works fine here. Just because the other adobe apps work does not mean it is necessarily an adobe problem though it might very well be. I hope things will be better for your with the next version.

If the cloud application needs to access Adobe than fine. This means it should lag witch all Cloud applications. But no, it works fine with all other applications only Edge Animate is laggy.
My main point was that there should never be the need to play with one's settings when one installs an Adobe product (or any software). Especially on a fresh, standard install of Windows, when ALL other applications installed work fine... The only thing "obvious" is that there is no real help available. Their new "Cloud" way of doing things was bound to have glitches. Thanks anyway "redesign".

Well I have the exact same configuration as you and I do not have any problem at all. So obviously it has to do with your computer or network settings. If Animate is trying to access Adobe which is necessary for the cloud applications and cannot, it will cause a lag.

A problem you say? Rather unlikely because of the following

1. Windows 8.1 is a fresh install in my machine. My settings are therefore the ones most people have with this operating system...

2. I also uninstalled ALL Adobe products, used their Cleaner software, reinstalled only CC and the same thing occurred.

But most importantly :

3. I know computers well trying to deal with similar problems for over 30 years : I easily followed the instructions for the fix proposed in the link provided here (Configure for use behind network firewall) : It did not work! I talked to a few tech guys about these settings and they said there's nothing more I can do about these "settings or network permissions".

The chances now that this be a problem on my end have been rather limited.

If Adobe proposes a solution and it does not work, this means there is more to this "situation" (to use another word than bug). But thanks for answering my post anyway.

Wow. I bought the CC license SPECIFICALLY for Edge Animate... And it lags horribly. and the proxy solution doesn't work and I need to use this software NOW. Why would I even have to fiddle in my computer settings to fix a bug that should not be there is beyond me. What I need is a fix. Now. Or a date when this will be fixed, please! Thanks.

I am not sure about proxy but 2 yers ago my it department has to change permissions so cloud applications could update properly. You might want to check if adobe is allowed on your network.

I have the same lag problems (only with Animate) and neither the "trick" of taking the network-cable out nor double checking my firewall settings helped.

In addition I'm not a network or IT-specialist. So I won't work with it until another solution comes up.

All other CC-applications run smooth.

Hi,

I installed the latest 3.0 trial version. Looks like the lagging problem is still remain as it is. Anyway, now my main problem, i talked to my internet service provider. And it turns out that the internet they are providing doesn't work on proxy. They said, if i put any proxy value there then the internet will stop working. So, what do i do now? Plugging out the network cable also doesn't work for me. All the other Adobe applications are working butterly smooth.

My computer specs are:

AMD Phenom II X6 - 2.8 GHZ (Hexacore)

8 GB RAM

Windows 8 Pro (64 Bit)

Please help!

By the way, the way to find the proxy settings is in the instructions I posted above in the "correct answer" underneath Windows. It should work for Windows 8 as well.

Well, I have no IT department here or Network Administrator, I have just regular internet connection, and I have no idea what to put as my proxy address. So if you could be so nice, and let me know what to do, it would be great. I can see that this topic is from October, now we have end of December, and Adobe still did not fix this?

Hey, guys-

Sorry for the slow response on this one. We've been looking into this over the past week or two and have come up with a potential workaround for you guys while we fix the problem. Can you please try this out?

Mac:

1. Find your proxy settings:

a) Open System Preferences > Network and select your network connector

b) Select the Advanced... button at the bottom of the screen

c) Select the Proxies tab

d) Select Web Proxy (HTTP) and get the server name/port

OR...

a) Contact your network administrator for your HTTP web proxy setting

2. Open a Terminal window

3. Using sudo and your favorite text editor, edit /etc/launchd.conf (this could be a new file)

4. Add the following line:

setenv http_proxy YOURPROXYSERVER:PROXYPORT

... where YOURPROXYSERVER is the name of your proxy server, and PROXYPORT is the proxy's port number (e.g. "setenv http_proxy foo.adobe.com:8888") (not a real Adobe server, btw, so you'll be disappointed if you set it)

5. Reboot your machine

Win:

1. Find your proxy settings:

a) Open Control Panel > Internet Options

b) Select the Connections tab

c) Select the LAN settings button at the bottom of the panel

d) Note the Address setting (proxy server) and the port (proxy port)

OR...

a) Contact your network administrator for your HTTP web proxy setting

2. Set your environment variable

a) Open the File Explorer

b) Right click on Computer and select "Properties"

c) Select the "Advanced" tab

d) Select the "Environment Variables..." button at the bottom of the pane

e) Set EITHER the user variable (just for your account) or system variable (all accounts on your local machine):

i) Click the "New..." button

ii) Variable name: http_proxy

Variable value: YOURPROXYSERVER:YOURPROXYPORT (e.g. foo.adobe.com:8888) (not a real Adobe server)

3. Log out and log back in (if this doesn't work, reboot)

This should fix your problem. Note that I haven't tested this on all systems yet (including Mavericks and Win8) - just on Mac OSX 10.8 and Win7. Give it a whirl and let me know if it works!

Our IT department has not been able to solve this yet. The response from Adobe was that it will be fixed in one of the upcoming updates.

For testing purposes our PCs were temporarily allowed to connect without going through our Proxy, which fixed the freezes but is not a long-term solution for us.

Seems like the only real solution is for Adobe to fix this issue of their software asap.

Your it department should be able to allow adobe in such a way that it does not slow things down. Mine did and I do not have any more problem anymore. My problem was more related to allowing updates. I think it has to do with Animate checking back with the Adobe server on a regular basis to keep track of versions and cloud membership.

I hope this makes sense. I think my IT department checked with Adobe support to know what process was involved in order to allow it and stop the problem for good.

Thanks a lot munich-online! Yes, I am finding exactly the same thing - take the network cable out and it works fine, cable back in and it slows down to an intermittent crawl again. Your first message was a great comfort - knowing I wasn't the only one out here, and now you have come up with a huge leap towards a complete solution. I'll ask our network people here if they can get to the bottom of it.

After more testing we found out that unplugging the network cable stops these hangs immediately.

Only adding windows firewall rules to block the application does not have the same effect though and the freezes continue.

Seems like the application is connecting to some Akamai and AmazonAWS addresses which might be blocked by our firewall.

Have you made any progress towards finding a solution yet?
