The 'bloatware' element of the latest ImgBurn downloads is now provided by something called 'OpenCandy' that varies the bloat it offers to install. However the ImgBurn author has posted three methods (from the OpenCandy FAQ) that disable the OpenCandy installer:

Beginner: disconnect your internet connection (beware some software needs the internet to complete its install)
Intermediate: run the OpenCandy powered installer from the command-line with /NOCANDY
Advanced: add a domain block in your firewall for *.opencandy.com

Note that ImgBurn does NOT need an Internet connection to complete its install so the beginner option is probably the simplest for everyone.

I wasn't clear. Sorry.

I just mean that even installing Java will do stupid things if you let it.

A side note: I have Java on my computer because I use it for everything. I don't have a separate PC for editing, as I am sure most people don't who are hobbyists or only make a little money using Premiere Pro now and then.

A full time shooter/editor should be able to afford a PC dedicated to editing. And while I suppose I could, I don't.

As far as I know (no program folder and no entry in control panel remove programs) I do not have java on this computer

This kind of activity is rampant. Have you upgraded your Java lately? You have to remember to uncheck the Ask.com toolbar installer.

Similar has been reported for the highly-regarded MediaInfo program, in the most recent release - lots of stuff getting installed with it too.

Luckily, I have the older versions of ImgBurn and MediaInfo, so will just stick with them for now - or be very, very careful if I need to install the latest versions.

I (will still) recommend Imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download for Windows DVD/BluRay writing

BUT... be careful and read the install screens when installing, or you will have add-ons installed by default

1st add-on screen includes AVG toolbar & search... select custom install and uncheck the default option

2nd add-on screen includes Sendori (whatever that is)... select custom install and uncheck the default option

I just updated my Imgburn 257 to 258 and after unchecking the add-ons at BOTH screens, Imgburn installed with no add-ons

I guess the author is not receiving enough PayPal donations, and had to "bundle" other software to pay for his development time

Added... also, with NO bloatware or add-ons, I use/recommend http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm for system backups

Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
