Does anyone know what "HierarchyRequestError" during an install may even point to?

As for what is specific to my machine... It's new Dell M4800, Windows 7 professional...

Install thus far: PTC Creo, Keyshot, Bunkspeed, Power Director, Office Professional

Adobe is all I have left and now I am going to start looking at other alternatives.

Whatever it is is specific to your machine. It's impossible to even guess

what that might be.

Something to try though would be to run the cleaner tool again. Create a new

user account on the computer and then try installing from there.

Nothing, I was able to download the version, run the install, only to get the same error.

"Critical errors were found in setup..." OK it exits. The log indicates the same FATAL error, HierarchyRequestError.

I loaded countless tools I own across major OS upgrades with nothing near the trouble I have had this weekend.

The directions were for the download. I'm thinking you had a bad installer

so this would be the way to test that theory.

Thanks I am downloading the files now.

As I mentioned I have tried the cleaner instructions (even though it is a new machine) and still the HierarchyRequestError in the log. Is there a specific "set of directions" you are referencing?

Could be a bad disk. Try downloading the installers from here:

http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html

You must read and follow the directions exactly or it won't work.

I have now spent about 7 hours trying to get CS4 installed with the same errors. I have tried everything except re-installing windows.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I have read many KB articles from adobe, MS and other blogs and nothing...

"Return value 3" = none
"ERROR" = 1424
"FATAL" = 8492 HierarchyRequestError

There appear to be about 400 KnlowledgeBase wright ups on HierarchyRequestError - Ouch.

Appears to be some sort of jquery issue in the code but I am sort of guessing.

Cannot Re-Install CS4

I updated my hw and cannot get CS4 to re-install.

New machine running Win7 (64bit). I have removed adobe reader and the flash player. I then ran "the cleaner".

It appears to want to load then "Critical errors were found in setup..." OK it exits.

I have been try to do this simple install, for nearly 3 hours.

Suggestions (besides spend another couple grand?)
