>not want you climbing around in the attic. But why not just hire someone

NOW she tells me that she is not super enthused about the in wall speakers we have in the downstairs "open" room (she says the enclosed theater room upstairs has a very different & better sound... which, since it uses the same brand/model amplifier and in wall speakers, is clearly due to the shape of the room) and that after listening to sound bars in two places, she doesn't want in wall speakers anyway since the new house design has an even MORE "open" room with our 60" TV (and no dedicated theater... we are downsizing)

So... a sound bar w/woofer it is... now just listening to different models and making a preliminary selection, which may change by the time we build

I did find out today that my TV has a digital audio (aka optical audio) output connection... so I will be able to do HDMI from the Onkyo to the TV and the digital audio from TV to sound bar... reducing the sound bar price by "about" $200 for equal specifications since the HDMI input/output circuits are not needed

Right now, leading candidate is Klipsch SB3... exact choice after we build and move http://www.klipsch.com/high-definition-theater-sb-3-soundbar

But why not just hire someone to drop in the new speakers for you?

We didn't need to do that in this house because they were already in place, but we did it in our houses in Florida. The company who did the alarm system installations also did speakers and sound systems.

Current house has in the wall 5.1 speakers... design of new house has the TV facing a BIG open room, with no good walls to mount the rear speakers, and wife did NOT want me going up a ladder to mount speakers in the ceiling

So, after a visit to the Architect yesterday when he mentioned a "high end" sound bar that he is going to use with his new flat screen TV, we went and looked at a Bose cinemate 1SR... which sounds good, but is WAY overpriced at $1500

After lots of reading at a specialty discussion group http://www.avsforum.com/f/195/soundbars and some specification searching and reading about inputs, I've made a "tentative" $800 decision of the Yamaha YSP 2200

The Bose uses an Optical Audio input, and I only have HDMI out from my signal switcher... so as well as being overpriced for what it is, I can't use the Bose anyway

The Yamaha has HDMI in/out so it will do the sound, and the HDMI signal is passed through to my flat screen TV for the best possible picture

When we actually build (after this house sells) I will Google again to see if the Yamaha is still the best choice for my setup

http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/digital-sound-projector/ysp-2200
