      <description>&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyStart:c3a41100-e972-445e-b464-d85cbe009fd3] --&gt;&lt;div class="jive-rendered-content"&gt;&lt;p&gt;I've got a couple situations where I help folks with computers that will not spend one moment to learn about how the programs run ... not talking "heavy" but just things like you need to LOOK at something that says "upgrade X now" before checking yes and therefore downloading/installing every browser sales bar/malware package ever created ... for the umpteenth time ... and yea, simple is good.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;However, when they're ... um ... allied professionals, who hopefully won't see this as I don't think they ever make it over 'here' from the P-shop or Lr forums ... who need decent machines running good with tons of programs ... it can be rather a challenge sorting their computers out every so often.&lt;span aria-label="Cry" class="emoticon-inline emoticon_cry" style="height:16px;width:16px;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyEnd:c3a41100-e972-445e-b464-d85cbe009fd3] --&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyStart:4255a5d2-c19a-4549-8302-4ea8a8392a70] --&gt;&lt;div class="jive-rendered-content"&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;This is not about video editing so posting in the Lounge&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0px 0px 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;Sister in law has an entry level Dell for email, web surfing AND photo editing from her digital camera&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0px 0px 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;When I helped her buy a year ago, I had her buy a PNY GeForce 210 1Gig for better Photoshop Elements speed&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;All worked well for a year, until about a week ago (seems to be right after her computer restarted with Win updates) her "screen went black" and she could not do anything at all&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0px 0px 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;Not knowing it was right after a Win update (she does NOT check status messages, so Win updates are installed "some" time after they are downloaded, when Win8 finally does a delayed restart) I thought she had a hardware problem&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;After 2+ hours on the phone and Internet remote control with a nice lady at Dell support, she concluded that there were NO hardware problems and the Win8 recovery DVD that is not automatically included in the box is now on the way to me to repair or reinstall Win8&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0px 0px 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;That made me think... and I went to my backup image which I restored over what was on her hard drive&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;Everything worked again... until I started doing Win updates and the same thing happened... black screen and SEEMING to be a corrupted Win8&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0px 0px 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;Her computer uses the default Win update setting of EVERYTHING is downloaded and installed... as I said above, she never checks ANYTHING, so the default is needed for her&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;EXCEPT... the nVidia driver contained in the image I made last fall is version 311.06 which worked perfectly with her PNY card... and when I restored from image again, and WATCHED what Win updates was doing... there was a newer device driver listed in the optional updates&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0px 0px 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;AH HA !!! I found the problem... the newer device driver was the problem&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;Since I can't change her Win update options (asking her to do something new is an exercise in futility) I uninstalled the PNY drivers and card and connected the monitor to the motherboard video out, which uses an Intel chip for video&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin: 0px 0px 10pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;That may not be as fast as the PNY card when she used Photoshop Elements, but since Intel RARELY updates their video chip drivers I don't think she will have the problem of her screen going black again&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyEnd:4255a5d2-c19a-4549-8302-4ea8a8392a70] --&gt;</description>
