Hello and thanks again. Still having problems. Today I removed the DNG converter file from File Formats and deleted it. Also removed the Camera raw 8bi file then started from scratch. I am running Windows Vista 64 bit. I downloaded from Revert to 32 bit Windows XP and Vista, put the file into Program files (86) in the order you say. Re-installed the 8.3 dng converter to install camera raw profiles. I download photos via a card reader and it just reports no supported images. When I right click on 8.3 DNG converter to Run as Administrator it brings up a panel asking me to select a folder to convert. As I cannot download from the reader I cannot select a file. Presumably that isn't applicable as I only need the new camera profiles.

To answer your questions I put the 8bi file into Program(86) - as I have 64bit system.

I previously moved the old Camera Raw 8bi file into a Documents folder called Miscellaneous.

Also, In Elements 12 Editor, and Help - About Plug-in There wasn't an option of Camera Raw, only CompuServe GIF, Filter Gallery, Photomerge, Poloar Co-ordinates, Read Watermark.

Also, since trying to sort this out, I am now getting a message coming up on the Desktop saying 'Elements Auto-Analyzer stopped working', and in Elements 12 Organizer a message 'ExtendScript.dll file missing'. I don't use Auto-Analayzer so not sure if it matters, but obviously it should be there.

Have you any other suggestions please (apart from giving up!)

It was just so easy to do it on the laptop running Windows 7.

After you download the dng converter, you right click on the dng converter and select Run as Administrator to install the dng converter plus the camera raw profiles.

(the dng is meant to convert camera raw files to adobe dng files for older versions of pse that don't support newer camera raw plugins, but you won't need it because the 8.3 camera raw plugin should open your files)

You don't actually need the converter itself, but just the camera raw profiles it installs, so the dng converter does not go into any of the photoshop 12 plugin folders.

If in the photoshop elements 12 Editor you go to Help>About Plug-In and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it say?

Did you put the Camera Raw.8bi into

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats

Did you replace or delete the old Camera Raw 8bi that was in that folder?

Many thanks for the reply. I have tried that today and still no joy. I may have not put the 8.3DNG converter file in the correct place. Do I put it in the File Format folder with the Camera Raw 8bi file please? Really, really, really frustrated at my lack of knowledge!

I did get my original 8.3 raw converter off the Adobe site. Elements 12 does have Raw converter 8 bi, but I tried removing it and following your instructions so have a new Raw 8bi in Program files (86) under File Formats, then I downloaded the 8.3 DNG converter but not sure where it was supposed to go.

Just don't know what to try next. Really want to download some raw images so I can see how good my new camera is

Where did you get the camera raw 8.3 plugin from?

You can get a 8.3 camera raw plugin that works from here

Adobe Camera Raw Help | Camera Raw/DNG Converter 8.4 on Mac OS 10.6, Windows XP, and Vista

under where it says Revert to 8.3 on Windows 32-bit Windows XP and Vista

(unzip the downloaded file to see the Camera Raw 8bi plugin)

Then the Camera Raw.8bi file goes into

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats (64 bit vista system)

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats (32 bit vista system)

Then you need to download and install the 8.3 dng converter to install the needed camera raw profiles:

I'm running Windows Vista and Elements 12. Have just bought Olympus OMDEM1 and raw files not recognised. I've downloaded the camera raw file 8.3 and moved it into the File Formats folder, but still won't recognise raw. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

Onlaptop with Elements 12 and Windows 7 the update works fine. Hoping for help. Ann
