Illustrator CS5 causing my macbook pro to crash/reboot

I am running OS X 10.9.5 on my MacBook Pro with Adobe CS5. When using Illustrator (and sometimes Photoshop) it will cause my entire computer to suddenly shutdown and restart. It often happens when hitting the save command but has happened while running other functions as well. Does anyone have knowledge as to what is causing this?
