ACR 8.3 was the last version to work on OSX 10.6.8. ACR 8.4 or newer requires OSX 10.7 or higher.

I've been looking into upgrading the os for my mini. The question is what version of the os do I need to get to to be able to use camera raw ver 8.5, which is needed to open my a7-s files? I believe I can upgrade to anything up to Yosemite.

Yes, it still won't open the Sony A7S (ILCE-7S) camera raw files directly, but will provide better compatibility with adobe dngs if you wish to use your other computer to convert/save the files to the dng format, copy them to your mac os x 10.6.8 system and photoshop cs6 should be able to open those.

Also, look at this software and maybe it will work on mac os x 10.6.8

Here is an installer for camera raw 8.3, so at least you'll have the newest version that mac os x 10.6.8 supports.

Unfortunately, photoshop cs6 on mac os x 10.6.8 cannot be updated past camera raw 8.3, though you should be at least getting the 8.3 camera raw plugin when you use Help>Updates from within bridge or photoshop.

(same applies for the adobe dng converter)

Camera raw 8.4 and newer only work on mac os x 10.7 and newer.

I have a cs6 license and recently had an update applied to the raw converted to handle my sony a7s. I also wanted to upgrade the raw converted for my cs6 version on an mac I use at a second home. It did do an upgrade but not high enough to deal with the new camera.

I'm on a mac mini running osx 10.6.8. When I try to open a sony arw file in camera raw if gives a dialog box indicating it can't open the file and gives a link to a spread sheet showing the minimum version of camera raw of 8.5 to open the a7s arw file. If I look at the version of camera raw I'm using I get 7.0.0.308. To do an update for the raw converter while I am in bridge I go to help and use the update item. I did an update to 7.0.0.308 when I originally ran the update option but hat is obviously not high enough to deal with the sony arw files. I basically did the same thing on my main computer and had no problem.

Any ideas?
