I came across these links in the course of a Google search, but have been reluctant to delete any fonts, since everything works. On my WINDOWS 7 system I have 648 fonts. The prompt shows up only in MS WORKS spreadsheet, not in EXCEL. I plan to use EXCEL for subsequent work.

I just checked on a vista system with ms works and 631 fonts installed

and was able to open a spreadsheet in ms works without the error message

so there must be a patch that was downloaded at one time to correct the

problem.

I haven't encountered this problem before with ms works, but here

From what iv'e read about the problem, it seems it's a ms works problem

and not a os problem. MS works is based on an older word version, something

like word 98 or 2000 so there might be a patch somewhere on the microsoft site.

PSE will use the Windows/Fonts folder.

If you install a new font it will show up automatically in PSE.

Otherwise your problem is a Microsoft problem

I installed greeting card software, and the automated process added several fonts to my fonts folder, it would seem. Now, when I access spread-sheets in MS WORKS, I get a prompt to reduce the number of fonts. The spread sheets still open and read correctly.

The font folder, in details view, shows several fonts under date modified, which corresponds to the date of installation of the program.

Under "embeddability" some of the fonts show " installable", others "restricted license", yet all with the same date modified.

What does this mean?
What is a safe way to remove an excess number of fonts?
