Bingo! I had the Color Efex Pro 3.0 Wacom Edition 6 installed. After moving the Nik directory out of the Plugins folder, the Layers Panel Options displays as it should.

I'll probably keep the Nik plugin installed, since the LP Options display ain't that important, but thanks a million for your help!

Do you have any aftermarket plugins installed in pse 10?

Years ago on cs3, a nik plugin i had installed on a trial basis caused the very same thing.

Anyone else have this problem with PSE10?

Select the Layers Panel Options:

The dialog box should be displaying some kind of images and descriptions for the thumbnail sizes, shouldn't it?

This is Win7 x64, and happens whether or not I've disabled the SWF files to get rid of those animated help tips in the lower right corner....
