Why doesn't Adobe have 3d modeling program?

It seems silly to me why I have to use other programs like Blender to design complex 3d models to import into Adobe Director? Adobe is the most well known and established software companies ever, and they can't make a simple program to design complex 3d models? Am I missing something?

Director's Future Meeting - Summary and Evaluation

Hi all,

I plan to give a summary of Wednesday's meeting but wanted to clarify a few things with Adobe before posting. For now, I'll give a brief summary.

The intention of the meeting was to make it clear that the community expects and deserves information about Adobe's roadmap. The first question I put to Adobe was does Director have a roadmap and what's preventing Adobe from discussing it. That question wasn't really answered. The roadmap was put simply that Director is being developed as primarily a Shockwave games development tool.

The meeting uncovered some of the features for Director Next - mainly in the area of 3D. That was actually the main substance of what was communicated. There was not much depth to other questions which covered Adobe's view on Xtra development, price, support for other platforms, new types of media...

Anyway, will post more once I speak to Adobe which I hope will be tomorrow.

Alternative to Director

So I'm getting the feeling the Director is on it's last legs, and realize I need to move on.

I'd like to move on to a development platform that can create desktop applications (and ability to create mobile apps is a big bonus!).
I'd love if the learning curb was easy (especially when it comes to the required language to learn, platform interface).

I'd also like to make sure there is some stability to the future of the platform.

I'm hesitant to go to Adobe Flash/Air, since it's Adobe, and well -- you can see what has happened to Director.

Any success stories on such a transition?

Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA error

Can anybody tell me what's up with the "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA" error all my old .dcr files? Nothing has changed about the files in 10+ years. Is it related to the newer versions of the Shockwave? Is there really a full version of Shockwave that has this XTRA in it, as I've read?

If so, is there a way to prompt the browser to download the full version instead of the default shockwave version?

Director Player Error

Hi... I am trying to open an existing Director file created elsewhere on an earlier version (not sure if it was Windows or not) my Mac and I get a Director Player Error - This application requires an Xtra (Windows Media) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s).

I am new to Director and any help would be greatly appreciated. I think I have all of the files used.

Help extracting artwork from .dcr using dirOpener - ANYONE?

I've been using the dirOpener program to extract the artwork from a .dcr, but I keep getting this message:

this application requires an xtra flash movie... that either does not exist

I've installed shockwave 8.5 and 11 full (not slim) with all the Extras shown here:

and it's not working. Maybe custom Extras were used, but I doubt. I think I just don't have the Extras that were used at the time of the creation of the .dcr.

I also made sure to get all the .cct files. I organized them all relatively to the .dcr file properly. DirOpener as a result seems to collect them correctly. But then I got hit with the above bold message. Is there an Xtra called "Flash Movie..." ?? There is none that I can find. There is "Flash Asset" but that's not the same.

Unable to load movie playlist?

I'm really starting to regret Upgrading to Director 11. I didn't have any of these issues going from MX to MX 2004. All I'm trying to do is make a simple projector work on a Mac and it's one issue after another. Not to mention all this after updating a whole boat load of Xtras 11 requires.
The new one is this;

Unable to load movie playlist. Does the INI file exsist? It must contain a section '(Movies)' with an entry 'Movies01=pathname.dir'.

I've already read a couple of other forum post with the same error message going on with others but can't find certain files required to make the fix like the 'Projec32.skl',
and I don't know how to read, let alone make an .INI file.

I'll mention I got this error after updating to Shockwave 11 EVEN though I was not publishing a Shockwave movie.
I know I just need to include a certain file on my CD when I burn one because all works great on the desk top, but I'm throwing darts trying to figure out what the CD burn is missing.

So to make a long story short does anyone know what I might be missing?
I'm new to making director movies for the Mac, and even using a Mac so I might need it spelled out a little more for being a novice.

Hotfix4 shows IOS status bar at the top

After updated to Director 12 with Hotfix4 a week ago, my ipad/iphone apps have a IOS status bar shows up at the top. Which didn't show in previous hotfix.

Any one know a way to make this "IOS status bar" (with battery, time, wifi, 3g status symbols) disappear or hidden?

I have adobe director 11.5 and Macromedia MX 2004 versions installed in my machine. The projector created from the MX 2004 version used to work properly even after the 11.5 upgrade. I recently got the error "Application cannot start because it cannot create needed files. Not enough disk space", whenever I run the projector. Has anyone come across this issue before?

What software is best to use to create an interactive CD?

I'm creating an interactive cd rom. I have made several interactive CDs already using a really basic bit of software called Autoplay Menu Builder (made by a company called Linasoft) but it has several limitations.

Basically it needs to be an easy to navigate menu with thumbnails of images that users can click on to open and print however many images they like (one at a time). The images will be pdfs as I will distribute a copy of Adobe Reader on the CD (yes I do have a license to do so!)

The main problem I am having with my current software is that each menu program I create can only handle opening 10 or so pdfs and so I need to have lots of menus linking to one another in order to be able to open all of the pdf files on the cd (usually several hundred files). Each menu program is an .exe file with autorun feature. Each .exe file is named 'autorun.exe' by default and I cant change the name without encountering problems. Therefore the CD ends up containing 100s of .exe files with exactly the same name and users are having problems with their virus checker software thinking that the CD contains a trojan virus.

So I need to come up with a new way of making these CDs.

Things I need my interactive CD project to do...

* Autorun from disc without prompt from the user

* Run from disc only - I don't want the user to have to install anything or need an Internet connection to use the CD

* Not to have issues with the most commonly used anti virus software (I know this might be an impossible task)

* Have a customisable interface and buttons etc.

* Enable the user to quickly and easily open and print 100s of pdfs one at a time

* It needs to work on older home computers - and if possible to work on both mac and pc platforms

I would rather not have it open in an Internet browser window - but would go for this option if I could remove/disable the navigation bar and give it some kind of skin (so that users don't think that they have to be online to use the CD - I know that sounds daft but it's quite important to the project I am trying to create).

After reading around the forums I think that Director seems the logical way to go but thought it was worth asking for any advice on the matter before diving in at the deep end - I'm not familiar with Director or Flash... but always willing to learn something new!

I made a projector with Director 11.5 in Windows XP, it plays very well in XP but get Projector encounter error in Windows Vista and 7. I embedded all the dir files in the projector because another error encounter when the dir files are protected. This gives an error that says "unable to save the movie because it has a second user with write perssion using the movie" this I know is false because I am the only one playing the movie.

Anyone with the idea of why a projector created in Windows XP will encounter error in Windows Vista and 7? Also anyone knows why protected dir files now dxr file will be assuming a second user is the dxr file when there is no second user on.

Can anyone tell me if there are xtras needed to be added to a projector made in XP in order for it play in Windows Vista and windows 7?

opening protected .dcr files

I've been supplied with source files from a new client that need alteration. However, when attempting to open the .dcr files, the following message appears:

"File is protected adn cannot be opened"

From what I can gather, the files in question (Director 8.5) were saved in such a way that there is no way to open them. I've tried dirOpener, but it fails to even see the files.

Are there any options for opening or importing them into Director 11.5 short of re-creating them? The projector files are available.

Creating Buttons in Dir. 11.5.9

I've been using the buttons tool menu in Director for 18 years with no problems. Now, in this new version of Director, I can't get buttons to work any more. Example: I click on the pushbutton icon in the tool menu. and put a button on the stage. I select the button and click on the background color icon, select a color, but the button background color does not change. I try to place a cursor in the button so I can type a label on it, but I cannot get a cursor to appear. So, I can't label the button, and I can't change its colors. Am I the only one with this problem, or is it a known problem with (hopefully) a solution?

Hello,

I have projector file that does not run in Lion OS, because of the unexistance of power PC/ Rosetta. I need to revise this DVD so it runs in Lion.

Therefor i installed dirctor 11.5 instead of the MX version i had originally created this project in. I had locked all my files prevoiusly, so they are all a .DXR format and do not have the raw files.

since i cannot open the projector in Lion to add any script, can someone let me know if there is any other way to unlock these files inorder to fix my problems?

Adding xtras in Dir 11.5.9

In previous versions of Director, all I had to do to "install" a new xtra was copy and paste it into the Director application's Xtras folder. I'm currently attempting to "add" an xtra that way to a project. Yet, when I click Add, the xtra doesn't show up in the list, even though it is in the Director application's Xtras folder. Am I missing something?

I have tried just copying and pasting the xtra into the Xtras folder in my project folder. But the projector can't find it. This also happens to be an xtra that needs to be included in the projector, and I published the projector with the "Include in Projector" box checked. Nevertheless, it can't find it.

I have just updated to the recent version of Director and am in the process of updating my previous files for teaching. Everthing seemed to work in the update process and I published a new Projector for my Mac running latest version of Snow Leopard. However, although the tutorial I created runs correctly when I run it direcly from Director's main program, when I run it from the projector I created I get this error:

Director Player error

This application requires an Extra (Quicktime 3) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure

the appropriate extras are in the Extras folder(s).

Before I updated I didn't have an Extras folder. Can someone please advise, simply.

I'm putting a game through QA and they found that the Director Projector throws the following error in Windows 7 when the user switches their windows user.

"This program is stopping because too many errors have occurred."

To test, I created an empty director projector that does nothing but repeat frame 1 and it throws the same error. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Hello Everyone,

I apologize if this is rudementary, however I'm stumped. I've done quite a bit of work back in the Director MX days using PCs and I have a job I'm working on for a client that requires the opening of PDF and Quicktime files from CD/DVDrom. It has to work on mac and pc. I've tried everything I can think of..including embedding PDFs into the director movies using Active X (which I never got it to work) to using the Open command with the moviePath(code which seems to not work in 11.5 Director).

Basically I need some help with code...what code would allow me to access and open PDFs on the same CD/DVD rom that my presentation will be playing from? Assuming the PDFs/Quicktime files would be in a sub folder off the root of the CD/DVD. I am working on a Macintosh running Mac OS X v 10.6.2

Is this even possible anymore with Director 11.5? Can I open external files? I will be checking for Adobe Acrobat and Quicktime installations and if not present prompting them to install on my movie load. So let's assume those two applications are installed and associated with their respective players/readers.

I downloaded Buddy API and got it to work from within Director on the Macintosh and in an older version of Director on a PC, however it is not working from the projector. I'm assuming this is because I didn't include the xtras. It's late, I'm tired..I'll double check in the morning.

windows projector crashing

I have 27 linked director movies with 7 QT videos in each dir movie. I developed the program in OSX. The projector works fine in OSX when distributed on a DVDrom.

On windows, after going through about 15 of the linked movies the projector will start to lag, then crash. It never crashes at the same point, just somewhere between 15 and 22 of the linked movies. Clicking the next button without navigating to video allows me to go through all the linked movies multiple times over.

I'm starting to think this is a cumulative effect of running so many video clips. When I go through the whole DVD only navigating to frames with text and no video, the projector doesn't crash. Then I tried only going to 2 videos per menu. Then 4 video per menu. It started to lag a little more at the end of doing 4 per menu. Then when I tried 5 videos per menu, it crashed about halfway through. I was able to test all these scenarios in one session till it crashed.

Video is encoded in h264, 2200kbs

Even though this is distributed on DVDrom, I have streaming selected. Should I turn this off?

Also, I am using code to select the QT member:

Could this be making the video clips not unload from memory? Perhaps an endSprite handler with member("pSelectVideoMember").unLoad() or some such would do the trick? That is what I am trying next but if anybody has more clues or a different troubleshooting route let me know.

In regard to memory, I tried adding a general unLoad () to the buttons that navigate to other dir movies but that didn't help.

How do I break apart .CCT files?

I have some files with a .CCT extension. They appear to be uncompressed, unencrypted archives containing graphic and sound files. I was able to discover that ".CCT" means they're "Macromedia Director Cast" files.

Is there some program I can use to open these archive files and extract their contents? Will the trial version of Director let me do this?

crossfade quicktime video

Hi There,

I have put together alot of quicktime movies in After Effects which I have brought into Director (with DTS on).

I need to be able to crossfade from one movie to another on a mouse click. I have tried to use BilleniumSoft xtra for this but it didnt work.

I am guessing I will have to use some lingo to maybe make a screen capture of the current stage and get the first frame of the quicktime video which it will crossfade into, but I have no idea how to do this.

Really desperate here as on a tight deadline, any help is really appreciated

Enhanced CD creation

Does anyone have any advice on creating an "Enhanced CD". A CD with both audio tracks that will playback on any CD player (so I presume that means it's not MP3s) and the option of playing it in a CD-Rom drive and watching pictures or something like a Director movie that is timed to music?

I don't know where to begin with this. I have seen Enhanced CDs. I just don't know how to link a director movie to CD audio files for the sound track. And if you put it in an audio CD player how will it know what files it cannot play (movie files)? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Xtra not working

I'm sorry, I know this has been asked and answered (I'm smart enough to look through the history with a search). But I still don't know how to fix my problem. I'm getting the "This application requires an extra (impressario..) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate xtras are in the xtras folder." error message.

I have an xtras folder located one level below the root folder (where my movies and casts are located).
Impressario is in the folder.
If I open the modify -> movie -> xtras I see the impressario.x32 in the list

I really have no idea of what to try, please help.

Unable to load movie playlist - error

Hello - I have built a kiosk which runs on several machines. On one of the machines I get the error "Unable to load movie playlist .... etc" I understand that this error is due to long filenames (over 125 characters). The path to my projector is LESS than 125 characters (123). However I still get the error on one machine, but not on another. I'm running MX2004 on Windows XP sp2 on all machines. Even when I copy the projector to the desktop and try to run from there I still gety the same error.

Any ideas??

I have many years of experience with Director, but no experience with C++ or Xcode. As I understand it, there is a long, steep learning curve on X without a good foundation in C++. Is there a way around using it? Does it require a lot of

Hello I have a List question

I am stuck writing this line of code

He is my project

I need to "rank" in descending order 50 game contestants

The names of the contestants are in fields "contestants1" to "contestants50"

The scores of the contestants are in fields "score1" to "score50"

A property list will have or be created ? Yes? No?

Then that list will have to be sorted with "best score" to "lowest score" and the "contestant" name with the score in the list. Example if Brandon ends up being in 32nd place with 344 points the list would have the player name and result.

**I am familiar with max() however, that is only going to give me one result .. I need them reordered descending

Lastly the really easy part the sorted list placed in a filed cast member "FinalResults"

Example member("FinalResults").text = string(aList)

Installing Project

I have fairly large set of movies and sound files that go with my program. The projector is accompnaied by these two huge folders.

Is there any way to hide these folders before installing the program on Mac. The reason why I am concerned only for Mac is that in Mac, the program gets installed in the Applications folder right next to the icon for the projector. This folder containing all the necessary files for the programis readily visible to the user. Is there some way when someone opens this folder, they wont see the sound and the movie files that are in it. In my mind, they are a bit of dirty laundry and I want to keep them away from the eyes of the user. The movie files are all protected and cannot be opened but the sound files are all plain files. I am less concerend about ripping than just having an elegant solution.

I have two editable text members in a shockwave document which I can copy and paste between however the text selection doesn't work, it's quite random what you're going to get. Anyone know why? Just a bug?

Hi,

I am currently trying to add controls (play/stop/etc) to a .swf file within Director 11.5. The movie imports fine and plays perfectly, however there does seems to be built in options to add the control in the same way you would for a .mov.

The .swf file has been created with controls and plays outside of director fine. When it is placed into director the controls disappear and leave a white space.

Is there a step by step guide somewhere or can someone give me a step by step guide? I'm fairly new to director and won't know some of the terms etc....

The movie is 30 mins long and requires the user to move to various points and pause the playback. I cannot change the format of the file either.

Please let me know if you need any more info...

PLEASE HELP, I have to complete this in 2 days.

I particularly need to make my animations have a control that allows the speaker of the presentation to loop the animation indefinitely until he wants to continue with his talk. pause, loop, start, stop. Those kind of controls.

i want to submit apps to the app store for apples... ios and macOsx platforms... but one of the rules to be able to do so states that..,,,

it must be a single all inclusive file

director when you publish make like 2 files i think... is adobe working on fixing this... im so ready to make apps but dont want to have to learn alot of Objective C and Cocoa.

mp4/flv video playback

I am building a program that plays back full screen video. So far I have tried flv and mp4 playing back at 720x576 (16:9) ratio encoded to 1500- 2000kbps but am getting consistent stuttering rather like playing at a low framerate. Couple of things I have notices so far is that tempo channel framerate directly seems to control playback (which is didn't before) but even running at 25 fps (same as video) doesn't help.

Has anyone experience or tips to help here.

Director 11 Publishing Errors Xtras?

I really hope someone can help me with this problem. I can't find a solution online, and I don't want to pay for an upgrade to Director 11.5 until I know this will be sorted out.

When Compiling my Projectors (Which I have been doing the same way for literally years) I have started receiving random errors which stop the publish and corrupt the final program.

These errors happen sometimes, and not other times so I can't see a logical explanation for any of it and it is driving me insane.

They Happen one after the other when Publishing

"This file is locked. C:\Program F...port\NetFile"

Click OK

"This file is locked C:\Program F..ent\AWADCmpr"

Click OK

"Problem writing file 'E:\....(FilePath)': Having trouble saving this movie"

Then it just stops....Doesnt publish anything

If I take out the Xtras so that when the file is saved, only the required Xtras are included and publish again...

"This file is locked. C:\Program F...t\Font Asset"

Click OK

Then I get hit with ...

"This application requires an Xtra (Font...) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras Folder(s)."

The Program preview runs and it works fine !!

Close the Program again..... Open it... Publish... and it Published the file no problem at all.. No errors... no problems. Works fine.

Just doesnt make any sense.....

I also have a random "C:\ Program F..t\GIF Asset" Error that appears every now and then... which mentions Animated GIF's.. (Which Im not even using !)

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7, but had no problems at first with this.

I have also completely reinstalled Director to make sure all Xtras that come with the package were installed...... and that had no effect either.

Anyone got any ideas? be hugely appreciated.

Carriage return in TextArea Flash component in Director 11

Hello.

I have a very big problem now

Neither embedded Flash movies with textareas or standard flashcomponent TextArea from Director tool pallete do not react on keyboard button "Enter" pressings. There is no carriage return after ENTER button is pressed. The same with End and Home buttons!!

Please help with any advise.

Is that a common bug?

See attached test.dir file. Try to type something in both textareas and then press ENTER button on keyboard. You should realize then what I'm crying about(((

Mac Projector problem on D11.5

I'm working on a cross platform CD-ROM and the Windows version works fine. But after trying several options I'm really confused. It goes like this:

I have the following files:

And if I run them from a USB Memory Stick they run perfectly. I tested the .app and it opens a FileMaker solutions, etc. But, after burning the hybrid CD-ROM (HSF/ISO) I get the following message:

Shockwave !? It's a plain projector with no fancy streaming or anything like that. I have some .mp4 videos and the Windows version has .dxr files as well and as I mentioned before, it works fine.

I intend to hide all the files that are not public vía SetFile (using Terminal) so to test it in a different mode I made a different hybrid version with this array:

Avoiding protected files and got the same result: it's calling for Shockwave... I did the hybrid with Toast 7 Titanium in the same way I've done previous projects with no problems (not on D11.5). Any ideas? I'm running out of options... Thanks in advance!
