Creating an imagemap using Photoshop layers

In the past, I used ImageReady to create an imagemap using Photoshop layers. Is this functionality available in Fireworks? Or is there something else?

My projects usually involve maps with unique boundaries. I used to create the layers in Photoshop and then pull up ImageReady. I could select the roughness and ImageReady would generate all the XY coordinates for each layer. Then I cut-and-pasted those coordinates into a webpage that included the original image.

This was all lost with the "newer" versions of Photoshop.

Cannot select or deselect objects in Fireworks CS5

I cannot seem to select or deselect objects in fireworks by clicking on them. I have to click and drag in order to select an object and click and drag to deselect. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or how I can fix this? Thanks.

Eyedropper pick up the wrong color

As you can see, when I pick up the color of the first square and assign it to the second square, the eyedropper clearly picks up the wrong color.

Any suggestion?

Can not open .ai illustrator files in CS6

Hi. I am having problems opening several illustrator files, and pasting a vector from illustrator CS6 to fireworks CS6.

If I try to open an .ai file that I normally would open just fine in fireworks CS5.x I get an error that says:

Could not open the file.

An internal error occured

If i try to copy in Illustrator CS6, then paste to fireworks nothing happens.

This is occuring with multiple files, that are small in size, even selecting simple vectors and pasting is not working.

I tried creating a new file in Illustrator, pasting the shape from the other file, saving it, then working with that file in Fireworks, still does not work.

I tried rebooting.

12.0.0.236 , windows 7 ultimate x64, i7, ssd, etc..

Can't select or deselect in Fireworks CS6 (Mac version)

Hey guys,

So for most of the day everything was working fine, then suddenly I can't select or deselect items. Well, technically I can by DRAGGING as I select (which is very inconvenient) but there's no work around for editing text (which requires a double-click on the object).

It sounds exactly the same as this bug posted for Fireworks CS5;

Now, I have Spotify installed but I've restarted without it running and yesterday there were no problems with Fireworks at all... so I doubt it's Spotify related. Everything else sounds the same though.

I've restarted, un-installed and reinstalled the program and closed all media programs I can see. Still broken. Quite possibly something else is interfering with it but I have no idea what (since I haven't installed anything new)

This is preventing me from finishing a pretty important piece of work, so I'd REALLY appreciate a response.

Batch processing images of various sizes

I'm trying to create 125 pixel square thumbnail images using a batch process and I'm having trouble getting it to work consistently with images that have different aspect ratios. I think I know why it's working the way it is, but I don't know how to work around the function. Here is what I'm doing that doesn't work when the image proportions change:

1. Resize image to 125 pixels high using the "constrain proportions" option.

2. Resize canvas to 125 pixels wide, thus cropping the sides to create the square image.

Then I have another process that does the same thing with images in portrait orientation. The problem is, I have some images that are 640x480, for example, and some that are 640x360. If I create the command using a 640x480 image, the 640x360 images are skewed when run through the batch because the "resize image" step is actually setting the dimensions of the image, rather than maintaining the proportions of that particular image. I thought about setting the canvas to a square first, but since not all my images are the same dimensions, I'm not sure how to account for that.

Anyone have any thoughts? I also have Photoshop, but as a novice, I've found Fireworks to be a little more intuitive for some of these basic commands, particularly batch processes.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Fireworks was the best software i dealt with for webgraphics, and as of 2013 it won't be updated anymore, what is the alternative software that might replace it and gets updated?

Small rotating of images in Fireworks

I want to rotate an image in fireworks less than 90 degrees.

The way the tutorials tell me to do this is by using the free transform menu/tool. ie get hold of the picture, go to one of the corners and just above the corner is a rotate icon. Grab hold of that and rotate the image.

All well and good but when I do this the rotation increments seem to be quite large (I'm guessing about 15 degrees) so in otherwords rather than being able to rotate an image ever so slightly so it lines up, I am either rotating an image too far or too little and there doesn't seem to be a way of getting it dead right. I don't think this is just because I do not have a light enough touch on the mouse- it feels like the tool only allows certain increments for the rotation.

Is this a problem with the program or am I doing something wrong?

copying vector shapes from illustrator to fireworks

I've been having an issue with Adobe CC Fireworks. Every time I try to copy a vector shape or an image from illustrator and paste it to fireworks, I get this error: " Alert can't open the illustration". I am running OS 10.8.4. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering if the ability to copy/ paste from Illustrator CC to Fireworks CS6 has been intentionally disabled? Its hard to imagine that this is intentional since Adobe currently doesnt have another UX /UI app other than Fireworks yet.

Or is this a bug (or client side settings) waiting to be fixed.

I tried to download and install Firework CS6 through my Creative Cloud, but there is no way letting me download it. I went to adobe download center to download it, but it keep leading me to my Creative Cloud app and in there only shows Firework CS6 "up to date". What should I do to download it?

In both Photoshop and Illustrator, I am able to delete the selected part of a gradient simply by hitting the delete key. This seems to not work here, can someone tell me how to remove the aqua section from my gradient?

Everytime I try to open Fireworks CS6 (latest version of Master Collection and all updated), it refuses to run and a small pop up dialogue opens to say: An internal error occured. The pop up message cannot be removed. Each time I click it, it simply returns and I have to CTRL ALT DEL to shut down Fireworks.

Any ideas folks?

Inconsistent OS X color picker's sliders make colors darker

I'm using Fireworks CS5, and I have this infuriating problem with the color picker.

It happens like this (I also recorded a video of the problem: http://cl.ly/Gtha )

I have a shape in a certain fill color.
I try to change the fill color. In the HSB sliders, I simply click the Brightness slider so it remains in the same position. I then click OK.
The color gets darker.
If I open the color picker agan, I see that the Brightness value changed to less than what I had selected.

Why is this happening? It makes it terribly difficult to work properly with subtle changes in color.

Fireworks RGB to CMYK?

I’ve recently completed the design of a postcard and poster for print with Fireworks MX 2004. After speaking with the printer I’ve now discovered that they only accept CMYK files. Fireworks, as far as I can tell, only outputs to RGB. Is this true? I’m not sure. If this is the case is there a way to convert to CMYK within Fireworks? And how would I do this.

Let me start off by saying i am REALLY NEW to fireworks and fairly new to using HTML. I understand it and can pretty much follow along, but i am defiantely a beginner...

I want to have an HTML signature for use in outlook using an image file that i created.

I have an AI file that i created to use an the email signature with outlook. I put all text in using illustrator and exported a PNG. I opened the PNG with fireworks and tried the following:

1. Tried using hotspots over the pieces of information (like a clickable email address) i want to be links

2. Tried slicing the image and exporting that.

Both times, if I view the HTML file in a browser, it works perfectly. When i move the one with hotspots into the appropriate signature folder for use with outlook, the hotspots are just not working. All it shows is the image and no links.

When i put the one using slices into the appropraite folder, everything is clickable, but the slices are visible, and "cut" through the image (lines all over the place)

Let me know what other information you need, but i think there has to be a way... i just dont have it.

Is there a way to purchase Fireworks CS6 for Mac outright?

I'm not even remotely interested in a subscription---I don't use the software often enough to make a monthly expenditure worth my while. I would be happy to pay a full-price one-time payment for the software, however.

I've used Fireworks since Macromedia did it, and I love the program, but I'm a personal user. I can't justify the monthly sub.

Problem loading the content XML error

I tried running Web Photo Album 2.2 from Dreamweaver 8 and it kept crashing at the end and not creating an index page for my images. Now when I start Fireworks 8, I get the error message "Problem loading the content XML" and "You've requested a language ('en') which does not have any available content."

Now when I try and create an album from Dreamweaver it tells me I first need to have Fireworks installed even though it is installed and running. I've searched everywhere for people who have already had this problem and have not been able to find any answers.

I'm on Mac OS X 10.3.9 using Studio 8.

Dear all

Creative Cloud enabled me to download a trial version of Fireworks. I am happy with the program and want to purchase it. However, when I follow the link in the popup, the website asks me where I'm from. When I enter The Netherlands, the site shows: "Sorry, this product is not available in your country"

Seems rather strange since I was given a completely Dutch trial version.

Anyone ideas?

Fireworks CS6 from CC doens't respond properly anymore…

Hi there,

I'm working in Fireworks CS6 at my office and the problem I have since last Friday is,

that the whole application doesn't respond properly anymore.

The tool-shortcuts doesn't work anymore. While clicking the V and A button on my keyboard

the tools eventually change thru but they're not working. So when I want do select an element

I usually have to just click it when the right arrow-tool is selected but since friday I have to

go through my layer-window to select any element.

The next problem is (just as another example) the type tool. I can't just click it and type the hell

out of that text box, NO (!!!), I have to select a word or a whole paragraph and than shift through it

with my arrow-keys on the keyboard. That's just not working well. Sometimes I can't even do it

like that and I have to restart the whole application.

Another problem appears while the zoom-tool is selected. I just can zoom in and out by clicking the

left mouse button and drag the selection open. Just clicking doesn't work anymore.

Any suggestions on how to solve that problem? I've already reinstalled Fireworks twice (also with deleting

all supporting files and preferences while uninstall the application.)

marquee tool not working

I think I accidently activated a keyboard shortcut which effected the behavior of the marquee tool. Here's the issue and steps to explain.

1. Have been using the fireworks marquee tool for years and never had this issue.

2. Working on jpg file.

3. Select image.

4. Switch to marquee tool (M)

5. Drag out a selection

6. Relese (this is where I would normally see the selected area)

7. The rectangle selection area is not visiable.

8. I have edges checked (not sure if this is required but it is selected)

9. I also have the rulers turned on. When I release the selection, I can't see the dashed line, rectangle area that I have selected but in the ruller area (top of my screen) I now see a highlighted portion of the ruler that matches the width of my selected area.

Please help. I need to see the selection rectangle area in order to know if I have selected the percise area that I want to cut from the image.

Update: Never mind. I restarted Fireworks several times and now it's working again. When all else fails, as my buddy Randy Sullivan MPT of the ARMory Pitching Academy (former nuclear tech) always says, cycle power!

After installing Mountain Lion, Adobe Fireworks CS6 (12.0.0.236) now returns an error message when exporting via Image Preview.

However, FW CS6 save the file... how do I get the error message to go away?

Fireworks CS6 Stuck at 45% Install

Using the Adobe Creative Cloud to download and install Fireworks CS6, it gets stuck at 45% each time. Fireworks was originally installed then I uninstalled it and failing to reinstall (4 times).

Is there a way to manually uninstall Fireworks CS6 completely or determine why it will not get past 45%?

CS5 export to transparent png - not working

I have tried every think I know to get a png optimized transparently though fireworks cs5. I have read prior forum post, and watched several tutorials indicating ways to do this and when i try they do not work.

I created the image in photoshop and exported it to a png file. Then i opened it in fireworks in an attempt to make the png much smaller. The image will be overlaying a patterned background on the web so needs to be totallly transparent. I've tried every combination of export option and still, when I put the image in my site there is a white background.

Ive tried png-8 with alpha transparency and changed the matte to nothing. The main window in fireworks never gets rid of the white background and when i export it's still white on my site.

I've tried png-32 with both alpha and index.

When i use the png exported from photoshop on my site it looks exactly how I want it, but the file size it too large so that's why Im putting it in fireworks but when i export it from there it's not transparent.

Creating callout box symbols

Hello -

I'm trying to create callout box symbols in multiple shapes.

Was able to easily create a circle callout from the Shapes menu, but have been unable to find anything else (i.e. square, rhombus).

Does anyone know where I can import more shapes (exchange didn't have anything) - or how to modify existing shapes to include a callout arrow?

I've attached a couple of symbol examples to this thread.

Hello All! Hello Fireworks Community.

I work on a Sony VIAO computer and for a full year I've always been using my licensed Fireworks CS6....

But since this morning , Fireworks CS6 is not opening. A popup shows (an internal error occured ) and says in French "une erreur interne est survenue".

I called the service where I bought it (FNAC.COM), the guy said to desinstall, reinstall through Creative cloud Adobe software, and I put back the licence number...

But it's still the same problem... I know that VAIO does continuous major updates, ie yesterday... would it be related?

Fireworks PNG to PSD - How do I do this?

I have several Fireworks PNG files (since Adobe could never give it a real extension) that I need to get out of that format, before Adobe completely kills Fireworks. (Do you actually think they will move it from Carbon to Cocoa. Apple will soon enough get rid of Carbon all together) Fireworks did not even get Retina Display support.

I guess my options are to conver to layered PSD's? Anyone know how to do that?

Text lean to the left

Hello dear fireworkers,

Im pretty new with this programm someone asked me to make a website for his company so i started workin on its logo, he gave me a scan of the logo but now im redoing and redesigning the logo its working sofar But i cant get the letters in the good direction, This is the redone logo sofar:

As you see in the redone logo i still need to let the text lean to the left. But I have still not found an option within fireworks that can do this for me. Does anyone has an idea how i can lean the text to the left? Thanks for u help!

Add Border to Images - Help Please

I have searched all over and I CAN'T BELIEVE there isn't an easy way to add a simple border to pictures. Not a pattern, but a simple border like a 1 pixel all around color that goes on the inside, so it is a simple one step process. It seems that you have to make the canvas bigger or draw lines.

WHY WON'T ADOBE ADD THIS FEATURE?? It seems so basic.

I tried to install the Fireworkszone extension called Picture Frame, but that didn't work for CS3.

Can anyone tell me where to get an extension or a simple way to add a border that doesn't involve several steps.

How to Create a Stamp Effect?

How do I apply a stamp looking effect to an existing image? For example, if I have some red text in a red box, and I want to make the text and the box look like it's a stamp (rather than just normal text), what settings should I apply? I've tried "adding noise," but all it does it add a bunch of black dots (the noise) to the text & box. In my mind, it would be better if the noise would make those dots transparent for a true stamp effect. Is there any way to do this?

So in photoshop to change the ruler to inches you just go into the preferences and rulers and measurements tab. In fireworks though there is no such tab, so how do I change my ruler in fireworks to measure inches?

I'm trying to install a grid extension for Fw. I tried to download it from two different sources and install it using Extension Manager.

Every time I try to do it I get the same error mesage:

You do not have the appropriate permissions required to perform this operation. Contact your system administrator to obtain permission.

I'm using Windows Vista and I am the only user on this machine.

Orientation of text

I have a text block that I need to set the orientation to vertical. However, when I have the text block selected, and go to the text menu > orientation, the four options that are there are greyed out, so that I can't select them. Any reason why this is happening? Fireworks vs Dreamweaver

Just trying to get my head round the point at which you should leave Fireworks to develop in Dreamweaver (sorry, I'm a newbie).

I'm working on a flowchart type diagram, where the various boxes will trigger swap images or hyperlinks to other pages. I am drawing the chart in Fireworks, because it is clearly a lot easier to position things exactly where you want them. As far as I am concerned, I can achieve all the functionality I need via Fireworks using hotspots and slices, but I keep reading that FW is more of a web prototyping tool, and the code it exports to DW isn't the most robust.

I want to use a page layout with a top title, and a left hand nav bar, with changing page content in the remaining space. I planned to set up the actual site with its page layout in DW, but to export the flowchart, which will be the content of the index page, from FW. Could someone please explain to me the best practice for moving from prototyping in FW to developing in DW? What I mean is, what bits do you do in FW, and what bits should you do in DW? Is it better to create the hotspots and slices in DW after export? Sorry if this is too vague a question. Any hints, or pointers to where it has already been answered appreciated.

Fireworks Pages Save As / Export to PSD

I've got a big FW file with multiple PAGES I need to export to PSD.

I've tried exporting and it seems as though I can only convert EACH individual FW PAGE as an individual PSD.

Is there no way to export / save as ALL PAGES to a single PSD?

It does a good job of exporting to PSD, it's just a massive pain to have to save 16 different PSDs for each FW PAGE.

Reverse Image or Invert Image?

I am missing how to do this in Fireworks. I have some images from my camera which, when viewed in FW CS3, are reversed in that the words on the picture and image are viewed properly from the behind the computer screen, if that were possible.

This seems to be a rare problem as my searches for the key topics involved comes up relatively empty. I am hoping someone has a suggestion for a workflow.

Here's the problem:
My boss is a print designer. As such he still uses InDesign to design and mock up the websites we are creating. I tried but I cannot break him of this habit. He then gives me the InDesign file and leaves it to me to produce a website from it. For over a year I have been redrawing the vector art in Fireworks before slicing it and creating the website. Copying a vector from InDesign and pasting into Fireworks brings the file in as a bitmap. I read quite a few workflow suggestions for getting vectors from Illustrator by exporting as an EPS and bringing that into Fireworks. Now all I need to do is get the vectors from InDesign into Illustrator. Even though going from InDesign to Illustrator and then to Fireworks would be a pain in the *** it still isn't as frustrating as having to recreate every piece of vector art from scratch to get the job done. Any suggestions?
