Missing images in Word Document

I am having a problem with some missing images when I generate a Word document from RoboHelp HTML. I have seen similar problems in these forums and have tried the solutions without success. I have Word 2002 SP3. I have images in my document that have conditional tags applied to them. Up until now, I have not had any trouble with them generating in Word. I added some more images (using RH to import them into my doc) and I set up the conditional tags to print those and not the others. In some cases, the images are generated and in others they are not. There is no X in its place just a blank line. I have tried erasing the .CPD file and re-generating. I have tried removing and re-inserting the image. Also, if I generate the html web help, the images are all there. No problem. I have tried embedding the images and using links and get the same result. I have not tried to just generate the PDF because I need to tweak the document in Word first before generating the PDF to make everything look good.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Robohelp. That didn't help either. The image properties all have none (not left or right). I am running out of ideas to solve this problem. Everything worked great before so I can't figure out what could possibly be wrong especially since the webhelp is fine. I also tried moving the project to my C drive. No change either. The project usually resides on a network drive.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it since I have a document to print for a customer ASAP! Thank you in advance.

RH11 - Cuts off tables when I generate review PDFs. How do I get it to include the entire table?

We just upgraded from RH9 to Rh11. I'm using the Create PDF for Review... option on the Review menu. I have several two column tables in the topic I'm sending for review. The PDF cuts off half of the second column in the tables. We didn't have this issue with RH9. Has anyone else had this problem with the PDF review feature in RH11? Can you tell me why it's doing this & how to fix it?

Robohelp 9 does not generate table headers

Hi all,

the new table style mapping works, but is of no worth for me if Robohelp is not able to generate table headers in the Word output. Having headers in Word is also a prerequisite for the first line to repeat on each new page.

Is there a way to output the first line as a header?

Error messages when attempting to generate PDF or print documentation:

(1)The version of Microsoft® Word you are using has some known limitations with documents that contain a large number of list items (~1500). To avoid this problem, please download the latest Office 2000 service release (SR-2 or later). For more details, please see the online Help.

(2) A supported version of Microsoft does not exist. Please install Microsoft 200 or newer.

Comments from Adobe Support:

"You are getting this error because this is a feature of Robohelp that first it launches Microsoft word and then it generates .pdf, so because of that you are getting this error."

[This implies that in order for a PDF to be generated by an Adobe product, Microsoft Word is a REQUIREMENT.]

"I would like to inform you that Microsoft office 2013 is not compatible with Robohelp 10 that is why you are getting this message."

Image path appearing as tooltip in the PDF documentation

Hi all,

I posted this issue a while ago, and I also offered the solution of populating the Screen tip of the image in the image's properties, however this is working for RH7, whereas for RH8 it does not matter what I enter in the Screen tip, it will still show the complete path of the image at the moment of creation of the PDF giving away some sensitive information. Not displaying the Screen tip specified in the image's properties is definitely a bug. Is there any remedy to that. Basically I do not need any Screen tip for my pictures. Best would be to not display anything, however it seems impossible for the time being.

It does not matter if I generate the PDF directly as a layer in RH8 or I generate it from Word, the result is the same, and it is annoying.

I hope there is a remedy to that.

I use a Windows XP Pro 32 bit, and I installe all service packs from Adobe.

Problem while generating word document

I get an error " The graphics filter was unable to convert this file ....xx. htm" while generating word document.

I repaired microsoft office suite 2010, but again I get the same error.

RH PDF generation problems: wrong (A4) page size and Word 2013

I am trying to generate a review PDF of a handful or topics. It generates, but first I get an error:

(I have Word 2013 installed.)

Then the PDF generates, but it is A4. I never use metric for anything, so where it is picking up A4 I can't imagine. I have all my PDF settings to letter. I checked Edit > Properties > PDF settings > Advanced settings, everything. It's all set correctly. Even all of my Word templates (which I am not using for this project anyway) are letter. Like I said: No metric pages or units of measure used ever. Not in Word, not in FrameMaker, not in Acrobat. Why does RoboHelp default to A4?

And why does it not consider Word 2013 "newer" than Word 2000?

Table Problems after Word Export from RH8

I am running RoboHelp HTML 8 as part of Technical Communications Suite 2 on Windows XP Professional and exporting to Word 2007. This is a recent upgrade. Previously, I was just running RoboHelp 8 without TCS. All of the Adobe software is completely patched and up-to-date.

The help system I am converting to Word is large and results in over 600 pages of Word content with a lot of tables (generally just for data presentation and not layout purposes). I'm also using build tags and single-sourcing this document to another, shorter document that is over 400 pages long.

I have exported various documents from RoboHelp to Word many, many times before, and although I don't like the amount of reformatting I have to do, I'm used to the effort involved. However, the behavior seems to have changed recently.

These days (possibly after the conversion to TCS?), after I export the help system to Word, all tables are set to have the text wrap around them (Table Properties | Table | Text wrapping | Around). Before, this setting always defaulted to no wrapping. I wouldn't mind this, because I could simply set the tables to have no wrapping, but even after I do so, the full functionality of tables is still not available to me. For example, I can't set to header row to repeat across pages (Layout ribbon | Repeat Header Rows). I also can't set rows to not break across pages (Table Properties | Row | Allow to break across pages). In fact, I can't select a single row of the table generally without selecting the entire table. My coworker found out that you can copy each table into Word Pad and then copy it back into Word as a workaround, but that is extremely tedious. We already waste a lot of time reformatting these documents for various other reasons.

As a (probably irrelevant) footnote, I convert to .doc rather than .docx, because RoboHelp crashes when I export to .doc. I then save the .doc as a .docx file to conserve file size. The same problem exists in both file formats.

Numbers missing from second half of printed document

Here is a mystery for you. I have converted my rather large help project to a very large Word document and then PDF. The interesting behavior I am seeing is that about halfway through the document the numbers and bullets have disappeared. We have put the numbers and bullets in the same throughout the project but in the second half of the document they are missing. They are in place in the first half of the document.

The project has been around since RoboHelp X.5 and is now in RoboHelp 8. The projects are intermixed with what release they were created in. The document is 2334 pages long and I lose numbering and bullets after page 1133.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Extra spaces in printed document

We're using the "Print each topic on a new page" option to generate a printed document from a RoboHelp HTML Help project. When we do this, extra space is being inserted at the end of one topic and the beginning of a new topic. Odd styles (one not defined in the style sheet or Word Template) is being applied to the space. When we don't use the "Print each topic on a new page, " the extra space does not get inserted. This happening for some topics and not others--some topics are printing just fine, but I can't see a difference between the "wrong" ones and the "right" ones. Has anyone seen this before?

RoboHelp 11 - is RoboHelp 11 still incompatible with Word 2010 64 bit

I have experienced several intermittent problems when generating Word docs from RoboHelp 11 over the last few months. Word crashes when generating a printed document from RoboHelp displaying a dialog that says "Word is trying to recover your documents". The document is generated, but all images in the document are missing. After much investigation I think this is related to the incompatibility with RoboHelp and 64 bit Word. I experience the same sort of errors related to the number of topics in the single source layout as in the following thread:

Is RoboHelp 11 still incompatible with Word 2010 64 bit? Is there any other solution besides installing the 32 bit version of Word?

When I generate the TOC in RH7, the first page number is "v" instead of 'i' - how can I fix it?

When generating a word doc from RH7 everything works fine except for the roman numbering in the TOC footer. It begin with a "v" (5) instead of "i":

The roman numerals count up on the following 4 TOC pages - so, the TOC is numbered from v to viii. The body of the document starts on page 1 just as it should. I've tried every setting I can think of to no avail.

As an aside, I have an un-numbered cover and next a copyright page before the TOC but if RH is counting those then I should be starting with page iii on the TOC (which would aggravate me only slightly less - two roman numerals worth, to be exact).

Is there a way to fix this or should I just shave my head and resign in disgrace as the company technical writer?

How do I change the Author name in a generated pdf?

I've successfully used the Printed Document SSL to generate pdfs, and they all have my own name as the Author (well, duh.)

However, the client team at my company wants the author name to be the company name, but the field in Acrobat 9 will not allow me to edit the author name. Note that when I generate simple review pdfs, there is no name entered into the Author field. How can I generate the Printed Help with no Author, or edit the Author once generated?

Why does the images disappear on the printed output?

Hi,

I am using RH 10 for the past few months.

I had imported few html files (with images) into RH and they seem to appear fine on preview (view selected item)

But while publishing into pdf, I find the images are missing the printed output. But the content remains the same.

Why is this so?

Hi There,

The company I work for have a specific word document format that I must use when producing documentation, this consists of several heading styles that require fill colours behind white text.

The problem I have is when I generate my printed output to Word, the coloured heading on page two for example leaks over to the end of the paragraph on page one.

I have ‘start new topic on each page’ selected but I can’t find anything else to clear the problem. Is there something obvious that I am missing? Any help is much appreciated.

Anyone having troubles creating PDFs?

Hello...having trouble with both methods of outputting PDFs, both Single Source Layouts - Printed Documentation and Review - Create PDF for Review. Both outputs have their good and bad points, however I have settled on the Printed Doc as the least work to make respectable.

I'm working with RH v10 and Acrobat XI Pro.

I do have problems like blank pages, easy to delete but the page numbering is then wrong. Does anyone know how to get rid of page numbering? It happens even when I use a custom master page with no numbering.

But by far my biggest issue is with two long tables refusing to print beyond one page resulting in many of the rows being lost. I've gotten round it by using the Review PDF and pasting that in but it's time consuming and has different formatting, and of course that puts the page numbering out as well.

I think this is very poor of Adobe, I'm really sorry I started using the RH editing instead of leaving the source in FrameMaker or Word. (My main output is WebHelp). But you live and learn.

How do I create a PDF for review in landscape orientation using RoboHelp 10?

I want to create a PDF of a Help project with 110 topics, to send for review. First time, the PDF was in portrait and almost all of the images (screen shots from the application) run off the right side of the PDF page. I received comments from all of the reviewers about the images ... reviewers were concerned that the Help topics, when opened from the app, would look like the PDF.

How do I create a PDF for review in lanscape orientation?

Or, is there a way to shrink the images so each one fits on the page when the page is in portrait-orientation?

Cannot generate PDF with RH10

I have searched the forum and Peter Grainge's site and not found a solution to this problem that worked.

I have a new installation of RH10 on Windows 7 sp1. It was installed as a trial and then licensed. I do not have the complete Adobe Acrobat -- only the add-on that was installed with RH.

I used RoboHelp HTML to create a simple webhelp project and attempted to generate a PDF from it with the single source layout for Printed Documentation. The following error occurred:

Internal error encountered, Failed to generate Printed Documentation.

RoboHelp can successfully create a PDF of a single topic. It can create a PDF with Review > Create PDF for Review. It can successfully create a doc from this project, and Word is able to save that doc as a pdf.

RH can open the projects that it created but cannot open the sample projects. The sample directories are read-only and I cannot reset them. I do not know why.

I uninstalled RH and reinstalled it. The problem is still occurring.

I am baffled. I am an inexperienced RH user so the problem might be a simple one. I would be grateful for any advice.

Distorted Images in Word Output

Hi,

I am trying to generate a Word 2010 document from my RH9 project, and everything works smoothly except for the screen captures, where most are very distorted (they are the correct width, but much longer than they should be).

In order to avoid numbering issues with conditional text, images are always inserted after a Shift+Enter in procedures, so they have the same formatting as the step/bullet.

I cannot see any pattern in the distortion. Similar size dialog boxes may be okay after one step, but then distorted after the next step.

Any ideas?

Links not working in PDF

Hi,

I'm using the latest version of RH8 and usually generate in Webhelp format. However, I also output the source to printed documentation.

As the source contains so many files, I generate 3 files in .doc format, which I then paste into my own template and PDF it using RoboPDF.

The hyperlinks are active in the Word files and using Ctrl + mouse click takes you to the desired location (from the TOC and the document text).

However, when I PDF the files either by using:

File > Print and choosing 1-Step RoboPDF or

RoboPDF > Convert to PDF

The links in the output don't work. I can't find any settings that will remedy this.

Anyone know a workaround/solution.

Image filepath displays in PDF

Hi,

I have converted a WebHelp document -> Word 2007 , applied some formatting/styles, then converted it to PDF. I converted the Word doc by using the "Create PDF -> From File" option in Acrobat Professional 8.2.3

When the mouse hovers over ALL images in the PDF file, the filepath displays. I don't want this. Actually, I don't want anythinig to display! It's interesting to note the the filepath points to the temp directory created (!doc_tmp_folder_0) on my local machine (so it also displays, C:\Documents and Settings\<myname>\My Documents\...\!SSL!\etc). And this temp directory does not exist anywhere on my machine.

I looked around for some kind of Image setting, both in Word and Acrobat, but I couldn't find anything that I thought resolved this issue.

Blank lines with different font inserted between topics

I'm using RoboHelp HTML 7.00.145, Word 2003, Windows XP and the standard CSS styles.

I'm trying to generate printed documentation for a command language reference with about 400 topics. In the Word document, roughly 1 out of every 3 topics has a blank line at the top of the topic (just before the topic heading). The line is in Verdana 8.5 pt. I do not use Verdana in this manual, and it is not in the styles.css file.

My RH source does not have any blank lines or characters before the topic heading. The preceding topic also does not have any extra lines or characters at the end of the topic.

Any ideas what this could be?

How to fix duplicate titles when using book with link?

Hi, I'm using RH7, generating webhelp.

I'm using books with links. I've got Peter's instructions for printed output, but I am confused about how to get rid of the duplicate titles.

I tried deleting the topic under the book on page 2 of the wizard (Print Document Content.) When I did that, only the chapter title printed and the topic did not print. (I realize that I deleted the topic, and that's why it didn't print.) However, I don't understand how to get rid of the duplicate titles. If I remove the book, then all topics under it are removed.
