Hyperlink to a bookmark in PDF file

I have a PDF file included in my project help source.

I have added a hyperlink in a topic to open that PDF file.

That is working fine and no problems.

Is it possible to define a hyperlink wthin a topic to open the PDF and go to a bookmark within the PDF?

Basically what I want to do is this:

Have an FAQ topic that provides a list of frequently asked questions with corresponding answers.

The answer must be short and concise but allow the user to click a hyperlink to get "more information".

Some of the content that is the "more information" for the answer is not in a topic, but in the PDF.

I would like to define a hyperlink within a topic that opens the PDF to a specific place WITHIN the PDF file.

I assumed the place in the PDF must have a bookmark (is there any other way?).

I have:

Created the bookmark in a Word document.

Added that bookmark as a bookmark when creating the PDF using Adobe Acrobat.

(This is not ideal as it appears in my PDF as extra bookmarks - I will deal with that after I see if this approach will really work)

I tried doing a standard bookmark hyperlink (e.g., DataDefinitions.PDF#HPI Metrics) but the PDF just opens without going to the specific place within the PDF that has the relevant content.

Is this even possible?

It just seems like it can be, but maybe I am just experiencing wishful thinking.

So another in my long line of questions in trying to change the implementation of the help systems at my new employer.

So, the pressure is to convince the existing guard to toss out the old method and go with a new method... One of the issues has come up for CSH Webhelp (via RH10)...

Apparently, in the old method (where every help topic was it's own CHM - no, I'm not kidding). They kept it that way so that any time a help file was updated, they could just send out that one chm to update that one topic.

Now they are worried that if we switch to webhelp using topics in one single big project that we can't just send out a single updated file any more...

So I'm trying to get ammunition as to how updates to the help can be distributed without it being a big hassle...

We do have small updates that go out about every week, and they are afraid that going to the webhelp (1 project with lots of topics) method will require more time and effort for the techs because they will have to complete the update of a huge help system every time.

One solution we have suggested is that we only update help files on major releases and add any changes to help procedures in the Release Notes or in a separate PDF and also include a note that the help files "will be updated to reflect this change in the XX/2015 XYZ Release).

Does ANYONE have any other ideas of how distribution could be done efficiently so that we don't have to continue this "project per topic" fiasco?

RH8 IE7 Blank Page

My company just moved to Robohelp 8 and I've run into an issue. During some testing for a new project, I created a demo webpage with links to several different context sensitive help ids. See code example below.

In Firefox, clicking each link displays the appropriate help topic in a single window. In IE7, the first link clicked opens the appropriate help topic in a new window, but clicking any subsequent links on the demo page causes IE7 to display only a blank webpage. If I close the help window and click a link in the demo page, the appropriate help topic is displayed in a new window, but, again, clicking any other link on the demo page displays a blank webpage.

I even tried upgrading an existing project from RH7 into RH8, and the webhelp exhibits the same issues that the new project does.

Thoughts?

Need a sample RH11 Webhelp output with categories and browse sequences...

I'm looking to test a plugin (of sorts) with any RH 11 Webhelp output that uses categories and browse sequences. A generated Webhelp output of the Salesbuilder 2 sample project would suffice. I just don't want to buy another version of RH for one test.

If someone could post a zipped file of the output somewhere, or send it to the email address on my profile, that would be extraordinarily helpful.

Map ID call in RH11

I have been using RH7 and Map IDs. I have upgraded to RH11, but I cannot figure out how to get my Map IDs to work. In RH7 it was a simple URL call, .../roboapi.asp?Context=Map ID What would the call be in RH11?

Why are breadcrumbs in my child project showing the (excluded) parent project path?

I have a merged project in RoboHelp 9. When I am running just the child project from that child project's index.htm, I still show the breadcrumbs from the parent project, and users can click on that breadcrumb and access the parent pages, which they are not supposed to do.

Unfortunately, I had already set up the merged project in the structure Parent>mergedProjects>child 1 before I read Peter Grainge's piece about using the fake parent with the redirect to the childs. Is the only way to remove my parent project breadcrumbs for me to start all over again and set them up as he described? it doesn't make sense to me that the parent would be showing in the child's breadcrumbs.

WebHelp doesn't run on the iPad

I write help files for web-based applications using RoboHelp 9 and generate the help as WebHelp which is accessible from within our applications. Some of our customers run our applications using a browser on their iPads, but they can't access the WebHelp because iPads don't support modal dialogs. Is there a way to place screenshots or text in popup windows in WebHelp in a way that doesn't use modal dialogs?

I know I can generate the help as ePub, but then the customer has to download an ebook reader and the ePub help files. We would rather that our customers be able to access the help from directly in the application.

Help topics are not displaying when using Windows 8/IE 10

I have a WebHelp system created in RoboHelp 7. When opening that Help from our application using Windows 8 with Internet Explorer 10 and allowing blocked content, the Help topics do not display in the right pane when clicking a topic from the Contents in the left pane. Below are the steps:

1. Open the Help system from the Help menu within the application.

2. The Allow Blocked Content displays and I allow it.

3. The Help opens and if I click a topic from the TOC in the left pane, the topic doesn't display in the right pane.

A workaround we found was to widen the left pane and the topic then displays. Also, if you don't allow blocked content, this issue doesn't happen. However, I need to allow blocked content in order for PDFs within the Help to open properly and also because the Search doesn't display without allowing blocked content.

We also tested this with a Help system that was created using Robohelp 9 and have the same issue. I'm wondering if RoboHelp 10 would solve this problem.

Does anyone know if IE 10 requires Help systems to be created in RoboHelp 10 to work properly, at least when allowing blocked content?

RH10, WebHelp Pro, Robohelp Server 9

First, please do not move this question to the Server forum because plainly part of the problem is happening before the output is published.

After generating output and choosing FIle > View> Primay Layout, every thing looks OK except that if I click the Search button, I get the Search input box and below it, the message:

Error: Failed to initialize database.

If I enter any valid search term, the only response is:

null

We publish our output to two identically configured WebPro servers. After publishing the above output, the result is that on one server, the published output works fine, including searches. On the other server, clicking the Search button produces a completely blank navigation pane.

These results are infinitely repeatable despite numerous server restarts, deletions of SSL folders, CPD files, all the usual suspects.

SO the questions I have are:

What database is failing to initialize?
What would account for two different published output results on two identically configured servers in the same environment (Windows 7, IE 9) ?
What do I need to do to get a response from Adobe technical support to my requests for assistance??

Why does RoboHelp 8.0.2 randomly insert javascript into all WebHelp topics?

RH can randomly insert javascript into your project (can be in the <head> tag or <body> tag in all topics in the project) which evidences itself with red boxes in the editing pane, and duplicate breadcrumb links in the WebHelp output. Even if you clear the Add Breadcrumbs Links checkbox while setting your project's properties, you will still have some breadcrumbs in various topics (RH randomly assigns breadcrumbs to topics with no logic that I can see). After deleting all instances of the red boxes, RH inserted javascript again in the next compile.

When you click the HTML tab you will see something similar to the following (the javascript has been highlighted):

I was able to recover to a previous version (without RH's random destruction) b/c I used SVN, but I now have zero confidence in RH's stability. I definitely did not insert the above javascript into my project. I kept the default setting for the compiled help to go to the subfolder of the help system (i.e., !SSL!, WebHelp). Does anyone know why this happened?

Inconsistent Webhelp Search Results

Hello,

I have a webhelp generated from Robohelp 10, where I've been running into issues with the search results.

I ran a search for "predicate" (without the quotation marks) via the search pane on the left, and got only 1 result. I noticed that "predicat" instead of "predicate" was highlighted in the search result pages. I ran another search for "predicates" (without the quotation marks) and got 6 results. This time "predicate" was highlighted instead in the search result pages.

I assume that Robohelp dropped the "s" to encompass both singular and plural version of a search term, but I don't know why:

Robohelp drops the "e" in a search term"
Robohelp did not return the additional 5 results for "predicate"

I checked the search options in the Webhelp Single Source Layout but didn't see any options that would affect the issue above. How do I get it so that my search results are consistent at the very least e..g, "predicates" and "predicate" will return the same number of results?

Is there a "dummies" guide to setting up content categories?

Using: RoboHelp 11 on a Windows 7 system.

I've looked through the Help and I've looked at the sample project EmployeeCare2 (which has only one content category, US (default), and so doesn't show the benefit of having multiple categories). I still don't understand the best approach for setting this up. For example, do you need to create a unique TOC for each content category and then include only the relevant topics in that TOC?

We have several types of users for our Touchstone application

Underwriters
Reinsurance agents
Insurance agents
Business unit administrators
System administrators

Would I have to create a TOC for each type of user, including in it only those topics of interest to each user?

Would I then create browse sequences applicable to each user's typical workflow?

Has anyone seen any good documentation about this feature?

Note: In our current Help system, which uses WebHelp Pro, I had to, for various licensing reasons, create a TOC for each type of product analysis (e.g. Loss, Hazard, Geospatial, Data Quality). Each TOC included common topics and topics related only to the analysis type. In addition, each TOC contained conditional build expressions. When a user launches the Help menu, the user sees only the Help modules for their licensed products. While this works fine for our purposes, we ran into some odd behavior with browse sequences. It appears that the approach I took is similar to the way authors need to develop Content Categories.

Favicon not working in IE

When viewing my WebHelp locally, generated with RH10, my favicon displays in FireFox and Chrome, but not in IE.

I have tried:

Using the default line: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="whstart.ico">
Using a different name for the favicon (e.g., "favicon.ico", "myicon.ico").
Using caps for "SHORT ICON".
Clearing my cache and retesting.
Using these alternate lines that specify type and put the image in a different folder location:
<link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="image/myicon.ico" />
<link rel="icon" type="image/x-icon" href="image/myicon.ico" />
Using the old RH script to provide the http reference to the file location:
<script language="javascript">

</script>
Verifying that my .ico file is indeed an .ico file, and using alternate .ico files.

In all cases, the favicon works correctly in FireFox and Chrome, but does not work in IE. I am using IE 11. I tried switching the IE Document Mode to an earlier version. No change.

Since the .png file format is supposed to work with IE, I tried using a .png file instead of an .ico file. Still did not work in IE.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Left pane -> Index/Search section.

This is in reference to the left pane -> Index/Search section.

By default, these sections show a black colour horizontal line after some pre-defined content.

I would like to change the colour of this horizontal line. Please advice whether it is possible to do the same.

Clearing Browser Cache for RoboHelp Updates

Using Adobe RoboHelp 10 - RoboHelp HTML , our team works on a merged project with several child projects. When updates are made, we generate as WebHelp and then copy the contents of the "!SSL!" > "WebHelp" folder and paste it into our test web server. Upon successful testing, we then copy the contents from the test web server and paste it into our production web server. The issue that we're encountering is that our team of developers, our internal customers, and our external customers are experiencing issues with not seeing the current version (and/or encounter issues with the search functionality) until they manually clear their browser's cache. This does not seem to be an issue for ALL users or ALL the time (people and time is sporadic).

Is there a RoboHelp setting or coding that should be entered in the project to force the browser to clear the cache in order to ensure that the users are seeing the most current information?

Thank you in advance for your assistance, this is a critical issue for our users and we need to find a solution as soon as possible.

Scrolling index or glossary to end generates error on Mac

When I view my published WebHelp on a Mac (Safari or Firefox), and scroll to the bottom of the index or glossary, I get a "Slow Script" or "Unresponsive Script" error and it locks up. I have no issues on the PC. Any idea what may be causing this? Without a solution, I'm forced to generate my Help files without an index or glossary. (To generate WebHelp, I am using RoboHelp linked to a source FrameMaker book - I have Technical Communication Suite 3).

RH8: 404 - Page Not Found when linking to PDF file from search results (Firefox)

I'm using RoboHelp 8 to generate WebHelp output from a Windows 7 system.

My help project includes a handful of user guides in PDF format. The PDF files have been added to baggage files and I link to them from help topics without any issue. The PDF files appear in the webhelp search results and when clicked from the search results, a 404-Page Not Found error appears in the right pane. It seems that the path to the file includes a backslash (\) just before the filename instead of a forward slash (/). If I open the link in a new window and manually change the path to use a forward slash then the PDF file opens.

When I link to the PDF file from search results, the path looks like this (resulting in 404 Page Not Found):

https://platform/help/pdf\user_guide.pdf

When I link to the PDF file from a topic, the path looks like this (works as expected):

https://platform/help/pdf/user_guide.pdf

How do I fix the path in the search results?

RoboHelp 8 freezes when compiling WebHelp

I'm working with a project in RoboHelp 8. The project was created in RH5, but has been updated and run successfully on RH8. The project is about 35 MB.

I am able to open the project and edit topics. But when I try to compile the help RoboHelp freezes, and I have to use Windows Task Manager to close RoboHelp.

I have tried to rename the CPD and use the existing XPJ to open the project, but that didn't work. I also tried to use the HHP file to open it, but I keep getting a message that the CPD is corrupt and that the project can't be opened.

WebHelp generated in RH11 causes errors in Google Translate.

I have a WebHelp system that I originally generated in RH9. Pages from that generated output seem to do fine when I use translate.google.com to translate them, regardless of browser. However, I've subsequently upgraded to RH11, and now the new generated output causes problems in some browsers. Specifically, the error message in Firefox (v. 33.0.3) is "Error: Permission denied to access property 'whname'," pointing to line 10 in whproxy.js. Chrome (38.0.2125.111m) gives the following error message, pointing to the same line in the same file: "Uncaught SecurityError: Blocked a frame with origin "http://translate.googleusercontent.com" from accessing a frame with origin "http://translate.google.com". Protocols, domains, and ports must match."

For what it's worth, here's the function it's talking about, from RH11's generated whproxy.js:

I'm so unfamiliar with JavaScript that I can't make heads or tails of this, and I haven't had any successful suggestions from within my company. One developer suggested that I should take the whproxy.js that was generated by RH9 and stick that into my generated output, since doing so solves the problem. I'm a bit hesitant to do that, as I figure that there might actually be reasons for the (MANY) differences between the two versions and I'm uncertain what I'll break or lose by using an old version of the file. I'm hoping that somebody here might be able to enlighten me as to possible consequences of such an action, or possible workarounds, or anything else of interest. (And please, no commentary on the relative value of using Google Translate. It wasn't my decision, I just build the help! :-) )

Why is the merge parent creating folders for and publishing all the contents of the child projects?

Hello again,

I'm using RH10 under TFS. Previously when I published my merged project, parent and two child projects, once I published the parent, the published file structure was Parent/mergedProjects/Child 1 and Parent/mergedProjects/Child 2 (note the spaces: my xpj files are called Child 1.xpj and Child 2.xpj). I have been berated for having fragile links (my only excuse is I'm completely self taught with anything web and RH based) and am trying to get rid of the spaces, so I changed the publish path in the two child projects to not have any spaces, thought that would do it. I do what I've learned here (thanks, Peter!) and publish my parent, then each of the child projects. The problem is that the parent is publishing both child projects at the same time and publishing an old version of the project without my latest changes, with the wrong folder names. I'm very frustrated. I think it has to do with the fact that my .xpj files have spaces in them and that's where it's taking the folder names from when I define the two child projects in the parent TOC. If, during that process, I pick the Child 1.xpj file and then where it says Project Name, I enter Child1, it then creates three folders under mergedProject: Child 1, Child 2 and Child1.

Why is the parent publishing all this old stuff? As far as I know, it should only be publishing itself and setting up the mergedProject folder so that I can publish the child projects which then create their own folders during the publish, if they don't exist before.

If it is the .xpj that is used as the name of the mergedProject child folder, can I rename that file so there are no spaces in it? Project is under TFS version control and the documentation here says I can't if it is under version control. Again, if that's the issue, can I just remove it from version control and then rename the project in order to change the .xpj file name?

buttons in webhelp output

I am unable to get a custom button to display in my webhelp output. I tried adding a custom button. In the Custom Toolbar Item window I added the required info (name, text, image) including a link to our product website (on the action tab), but the button does not show up in the toolbar. I tried editing the About option but it does not display either. I basically can't get any button to show up other than the defaults in the Toolbar -> Main panel. I am using the skin editor. The custom button shows up when I click Preview in the skin editor, but when I generate the help, the button is not there. Any tips?

Is there a way to show the current URL for a WebHelp topic in the browser?

RoboHelp 11, WebHelp.

When I open the WebHelp project, the URL displays the start page for the Touchstone Help project: ..../Documentation/Touchstone/Content/Content.htm.

As I go to different pages in the Help, the URL never changes.

Our client consulting personnel often like to copy a URL to send to a client who has a question about a particular topic.

Is there a WebHelp setting that supports display of the current URL?

A. What is the coding to call the WebHelp default topic using a window called "Main" using the .htm file name (not a Map ID), and show the TOC pane and the topic pane?

B. What is the coding to call a WebHelp context sensitive topic using the .htm file name (not a Map ID) and display the topic pane only? We use the Show link inside the topic to show the TOC.

I use RoboHelp HTML 9 and have been having issues with generated WebHelp in IE 11. The TOC was totally blank and the Search tab looked fine but did not function. Everything worked fine in Firefox. After much experimenting and online research in these forums and elsewhere, I have been able to get the TOC to display properly in IE 11 (and Firefox) but the fix has caused the Search tab to stop functioning as per this other forum post RH9 Webhelp Search function is not working properly.

I need to have BOTH TOC and Search displayed and functioning properly but in order to get the TOC displayed properly I had to change the Preferred Format setting to "Pure HTML" and, according to the post mentioned above, that is what messes up the Search function. Is there a solution that will allow both TOC and Search to function properly?

Here is a summary of the steps I have taken to get to this point:

Tested WebHelp output from two different projects of my own as well as the Salesbuilder starter project - all would display/function properly in Firefox but not in IE 11 (blank TOC and non-functioning Search).
Found a "patch" for RH10 for the exact problem I was having with RH9 but was not able to find a version for RH9. Since the patch included 2 files (whutils.js and whver.js) only, I backed up these files in the RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock directory and replaced them with the new ones.
Regenerated one of my RoboHelp projects - still didn't work in IE 11 and now didn't work in Firefox either!
Tried turning on Mark of the Web but this did not help and would not allow opening PDF's which is necessary to one of the projects so I turned it off again.
Changed Preferred Format setting to "Pure HTML" instead of "DHTML" and the TOC displayed and functioned properly in IE 11 and Firefox! Hurray!!
Celebrated for 10 seconds until I clicked on Search tab and saw the input box filled with letters of the alphabet with other random letters, words, numbers below. It looks almost like an index but neither of my projects uses an index and I have not generated one in either project.
Found the post mentioned above which states that the solution is to change the Preferred Format setting back to DHTML but when I do that I am back to blank TOC and proper-looking but non-functioning Search!!!
I have now removed the Search tab from the output of one of the projects since it is not really necessary but I need to find a fix for this for my other project.

Both of my projects are run locally - one is release documentation that is distributed on a CD and the other is CSH which is loaded on the local server with the software for which it was created.

Contents of the ToC pane not displayed in IE 11

Hi, I experienced this problem before but did not ever find a solution.

My laptop recently upgraded from IE 10 to IE 11 and ever since, the contents of the ToC pane in my webhelp projects will not display although they are shown in Firefox.

This happened a couple of years ago (with IE 8 I think) and a solution was not found. It was only resolved when my department upgraded to RoboHelp 10. It is not feasible to upgrade our RoboHelp with every IE upgrade however.

Does anybody have a solution for this please?

Drop-down text not working in Chrome 30.0.1599.69

I have a help file that was working correctly in Chrome previous to the current release. With the new release, besides the refresh loop problem I've seen reported in this forum, we're having the following issues with the compiled webhelp:

Drop-down text that we have not modified since the last release doesn't open with the new version of Chrome
Drop-down text that we have modified since the last release doesn't appear as drop-down text. It appears as normal text without the drop-down style and action

Regarding the refresh loop issue:

When we compile the file and try to view it locally, we see the refresh loop problem already reported, however, when we view the help file when it is called by our app, we don't see the refresh loop problem.

Of course, we have a deadline this week so any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like after upgrading to Robohelp 10, the Webhelp compile no longer produces a "whcshdata.htm" file in the output, but instead produces "whcshdata.js." I can't find anything in RN about htis change, but wondering if anyone knows if this is true?

Mouse Hover Shows the Image Name

RoboHelp HTML Version 9

Hi,

In the WebHelp display in IE, the file name shows when I hover over an image.

I could put in a screen tip, but I would have to do that for every image and that will be time consuming after-the-fact.

Can anyone tell me how to change the output so the file name does not display for ALL the images. I looked in the WebHelp Settings dialog, but can't find anything in there.

Company Logo in WebHelp Skin?

Our design guy has been putting together a custom skin for our implementation, but he can't figure out how to get the skin designer to let him insert the company logo. I haven't figured it out, either. It doesn't necessarily have to be in the top panel. We just need it to appear somewhere.

Any suggestions?

WebHelp - indexed by Google?

Does anyone have a WebHelp that is indexed by Google?

If yes, did you do something special when generating the WebHelp it to make Google index it?

I am working with RoboHelp 8.

I know that there are many books/sites out there about SEO, but I wanted to see if there's a setting that I need to select that would get Google to index my WebHelps.

One of our WebHelps sits on the FTP, and I know that is a problem. However, someone else looked at the HTML generated by RoboHelp and said that because of the JavaScripts, Google will not index it.

Auto-sizing popup in RoboHelp 8 not the same as 7

Version 7

I just upgraded from version 7 to 8. I used the Display in auto-sizing popup feature to link to topics in version 7. When you click on a link in Version 7 the pop up window has a scroll bar for the user to scroll down to see all the information. See attached image. In Version 8 you cannot see the scroll bar. It's push off the right-hand side of the screen. What is causing this? Can it be fized?

Will RH keep a meta tag for "keywords" in webhelp?

We are looking at implementing Ultraseek as an add-on search engine for our webhelp library. I know that there are better search engines!...but we're stuck with it...so to make it work best we need to add 'keywords' to our topics. Equivalent of Index terms, but stored in the meta tag code for each topic.

Ultraseek can search "keywords" and the code they give for it is:

So I added <meta name="keywords" content=teri> at the end of the meta tag block for a topic. RH moved it to near the top and changed it to:

ok, stripped out the quotes, not sure what that does...but when I complied this line was not in the output .htm file, it had been remomved.

Is there a way to get a meta tag to survive the compiling process? This is a very important issue for us. THANK YOU to whomever can help us!

TOC will not auto synchronize

I posted this question in another forum but I was a bit confused and I don't think I explained myself very well. So I apologize for posting this twice but I really need to find a way to fix this.

I am using RoboHelp 7 and my output is WebHelp. My table of contents will no longer authomatically open up to the topic in the topic pane. I did not have a problem with this until a few days ago, I am the only one working on this project, and I have not changed any of my settings. When I go into my primary layout (Webhelp) the 'Synchronize Table of Contents' button is checked and the drop down box is set to 'Automatically'. When I generate and view everything works fine but when it is pushed over to our server it does not work. I have another project that is not having this problem. I'm at a loss.

I'm a novice at using RoboHelp and if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Drop-down Hotspot Not Working

Hello. I'm using RoboHELP HTML v. 6, and I'm working on Windows XL. Within my help system, I have several drop-down hotspots. These work fine while I'm testing on my C: drive. But when I issue them to our test environment, the hotspot test is not hidden. It's already expanded. I think I've read where this could happen on older operating systems, but I can't figure out why it's happening here. Anyone know?

Web Help vs. HTML Help

I just started using RH7 (upgraded form 2002). I have always used HTML Help to generate a .chm. The users of my help work at places where the IT departments often lock down Internet access; i.e., many users are not allowed access to the Internet. And our software only runs on Windows.

It seems help generated with Web Help can be more user friendly (I just like the idea of using skins, I guess) but I'm not sure it is worth doing in my case.

Anyone have any input on why I would switch to Web Help from HTML Help? Or is generating the .chm the best choice for my end users?

Also, if I do end up switching to WebHelp, how are context-sensitive IDs affected? Would the developers need to change anything on their end?

Fix for WebHelp frame display in Mozilla?

I've checked a number of resources on this topic, including Peter Grainge's helpful Website, but I have yet to find a solution. When running our WebHelp Help project in Mozilla, the top portion of the project frame that separates the navigation and topic viewing area from the contents, index, and search tabs is hidden. Is there some type of tweak that can be made to one of the javascript files to make this portion of the frame display? P.S. The JavaScript console in Mozilla reported a number of scripting and htm page errors. The errors point to the following files: whstart.js, whskin_tbars.htm, whskin_mbrs.htm. Thank you for your input.

Highlighting Search Strings vs Individual Words

I am using the method on Peter Grainges site for Highlighting Search Strings. I have completed all necessary changes and the function works~~~~ One thing I have found that I wonder if I can change.... As it stands now If I enter more than 1 word to search ROBO actually separates both words and searches them as individual words ~ I want to search as a string not individually -- is there a fix for this?? WebHelp not displaying content in left nav pane

Any suggestions for why WebHelp is not displaying contents in the left navigation pane? When Help is called, it displays the frame (including buttons such as glossary, search, contents, etc) and the work area, but does not show the TOC in the left navigation pane.

I have also tried generating FlashHelp, with the same results. This time, only the work area displays. Any suggestions to fix this?

This is a new project, where RoboHelp is being deployed for the first time. Any suggestions for making this a simpler transition would be much appreciated. I have used RoboHelp for many years with a different company and do not recall ever running into this many problems.

Indexing of Web Help

Is it possible for search engines such as Google to index on a generated WebHelp?
One of my developers feel strongly about our Help being able to load in search engines such as Google. That is if you have an issue with our server based app you should be able ot paste text into the search field in a browser and launch a number of hits (of which hopefully part of our Help will appear). Do any of you have this "need"?
I suppose that because you can add a topic to a Favorite list in RH then you should also be able to bookmark topics in browsers?

Bookmarks in Dropdown Text Not Working in RH10

I have seen several posts about bookmarks in dropdown text, but can't find anything specific to what's happening in RH10 - other than someone got it to work... but yet it isn't working for me. If there's a post that speaks directly to the issue, can you please point me to that discussion. I'm so sorry for posting if there is already an answer floating around out there.

In the meantime: I know I have done this with a competitor's HAT, but wondering how to set it up to work or if it's possible. I have information in dd text that contains a bookmark that is referenced in other places (outside the dd and perhaps outside the actual topic). But it's not opening the drop down text... in fact, it's not even being recognized. I see the bookmark in the Project Manager pod, but if I view my build Webhelp project and click on the link that should take me to the dd information, nothing happens. Not only does it NOT open the dropdown text, it doesn't even take me to the dropdown hotspot.

Is there a way to get the dd text to automatically open when the reference link is clicked? AGAIN, my apologies if this is already posted - and yep, I even looked on Peter's site and couldn't find this specific info.

Is there a way to make tab groups be remembered between RH sessions?

All-

I've found that the tab groups (in my case "vertical" tab groups) that I set in a RH project/session aren't being remembered. When I close and reopen a project, I have to reset my tab groups. Is there a way to make tab groups re-appear according to how they were last configured?

(I could be wrong, but it seems to me I've only had this problem recently. Perhaps I unchecked a "remember' setting?!)

RoboHelp 9: Latest WebHelp not working from our product

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but my help files aren't working properly. I've made edits to them since last year, but when I open the help files from our product, I see last year's help files... not the current ones. Is there anything you can think of that would cause this issue?

Basically, I'm having trouble with the deployment of the help files. They don't appear to be available in the deployment package. What can I do to confirm that they are present (and correct) in the deployment package?

How do I use the NOT boolean operator in WebHelp output

I am using RH 11 and am trying to figure out how to use the NOT boolean operator in my WebHelp out.

For example, when I type "Body NOT text" (no quotes), I get the following message:

"The words you typed is not a valid expression."

Am I doing something wrong here or does this not work?

Hi all. I'd be grateful for experts' comments on these questions:

Is there a way an end-user (a reader of the WebHelp) can specify keywords in the search query (something perhaps like "kwd:installation"), such that only topics with the keyword "installation" are returned?
Is there a way to search across all topics that have NO keyword (eg, "kwd:"")?
Is there a way to configure RH such that when an author creates a new topic, a default keyword, or set of keywords, is added automatically to the search Keyword field for the topic?

Not able to insert images in RH V. 9

I am using RH 9 and JPEG images. When I open a WebHelp file to make edits, it will not allow me to insert images. When I select the image and try to insert it, I get the following message:

Then whether I hit Yes or No, the following message appears:

I have not changed the naming convention of any of my images, and they are all JPEGS. Any help appreciated.

I used RoboHelp 9 to generate WebHelp. I applied Adobe's IE10 Patch for "Existing WebHelp created with RoboHelp 9" and the "IE10 patch for RoboHelp 9 installation" provided by William van Weelden. My Search results appear as gibberish (see below example). However, when I click on a number, a help topic appears. Weird huh? Any suggestions for a fix oh wise sages? Thanks in advance.

WebHelp Blank Page in IE11

I have upgraded a WebHelp project supporting a browser application from RoboHelp 9 to Robohelp 11.02.240.

The WebHelp context sensitive help displays and refreshes correctly when the browser application is opened in Firefox and Chrome.

The following error occurs when the browser application is opened in IE11:
1/ The first time a help button is selected on the application the help window displays correctly.
2/ But leave the help window open and select a help button on the application and the help window does not refresh correctly. A Blank Page is displayed.

The browser application uses the RoboHelp_CSH.js file and the RH_ShowHelp function with the HH_HELP_CONTEXT command.

I have provided my software developers with the lastest RoboHelp_CSH.js file shipped with RoboHelp 11.02.240.

This is an old application and the help did display correctly in IE when it was developed. I dont know which IE release introduced the problem.

Is there a fix? Thanks.
