How to add a horizontal line in RoboHelp HTML 7

HI - I am working with RoboHelp 7 HTML. I want to add a horizontal line to my topic. I am using RoboHelp as my editor. Work mostly in WYSWYG / Design mode and don't do much hand coding as a rule, but sometimes I tweak the code. Since I couldn't find a WYSIWYG way to add a horizontal line, so thought I would try the <hr/> tag.

Sadly - that just shows up on the Design view page as a big, red highlight of the <hr/> tag.

Suggestions?

Determine epub version in RoboHelp 11 HTML

I cannot figure out how to make sure Robohelp 11 uses Epub 3 as the default standard for generating epubs. In the Single Source Layouts dock Ebook (Primary Layout) has been set to Epub 3. But when opening a sample job and using Generate, the Epub standard is set to Epub 2.0.1. Why is that and can I change it and make sure it uses epub 3?

Importing MS word 8 file into RH HTML10

Is it an upgrade of RH that's needed, or ?!?!?!?!

rhsnippet.apj Error with RoboHTML 10 Project on Network

I have a RoboHTML 10 project on a local drive that was working just fine.

I tried to move the project to a network location. Things seemed to be going well, until I tried adding a new snippet file - when I tried saving the new snippet, I received the following error message:

The snipped was created OK and I could use it in my topics just fine. But when I checked out the rhsnippet.apj file, it was truncated at the end:

I copied my project back to my local drive, renamed the rhsnippet.apj file, and opened RoboHTML - the rhsnippet.apj file was recreated, and it was no longer truncated.

The local rhsnippet.aps file is about 88 KB while the network version of the file is 76.0 KB. I have 770 snippets and ~4k topics in my project.

I would like to have my RoboHTML project reside on a network folder, but I'm not willing to trust it while this error message appears.

Please let me know if there's something I can do to get this to work... thanks.

Need help with merged projects RH10

I have a project that needs to display the same merged projects from different single source layouts.

The project is Retail Sales. The single source layouts are Call Center and Field. Both single source layouts display the same two merged projects. Some of the topics I publish from each single source layout need to be different, both within the merged projects, and in the main parent project. I control them with conditional build tags.

The Call Center single source layout works. Both the merged projects display correctly. Blocked topics are blocked appropriately. Everything is wonderful, birds are chirping, and honeybees are gathering nectar. There is a rainbow.

However, the Field single source layout does NOT work. NONE of the merged projects display. I haven't even gotten to test the conditional build tags because I can't get the merged projects to work.

I have created new single source layouts to replace the Field multiple times, to no avail. I have checked and double-checked output paths (one goes to Call_Center and one goes to Field), both to my PC and to the publishing server. They both go to a different folder on the same server, so it apparently isn't server-related.

I went through the single source layout dialogs for both parent and child projects screen by screen, taking screen shots and printing them out. I compared them side-by-side, and identified a very few very superficial differences (like "apply the same style sheet to all topics"). I changed these minor things in the "DOESN'T WORK" single source layout, and published, then checked the output before addressing the next minor difference. Nothing changed.

I also have other projects that don't permit me to create merged projects AT ALL. And the programmers can't troubleshoot with me until Friday.

Does anyone have any thoughts what might be the problem? Getting merged projects to work almost seems totally random, and I can't identify why that is.

I have RH11 installed on a new PC, but haven't taken delivery yet. Is this something RH11 might address?

Upgraded from RH9 to RH11 Search No Longer Working

Situation:

Upgraded several projects from RH9 to RH11

WebHelp Pro Output

RoboHelp Server 9

Search no longer works for upgraded RH11 projects. No matter the topic or keyword entered, results are zero.

Search works on RH9 projects.

I looked through forums for similar situations, I didn't find any for RH11. Some solutions for RH10 said to verify the whfts file included all the xml packages and the RH11 output does. Others had to do with settings in WebHelp but couldn't find anything specific to WebHelp Pro.

Any ideas?

Symbol "is proportional to"

Hallo all,

I need to include some mathematical formulae in my RoboHelp 8 CHM file, and have problems with the symbol "is proportional to".

I can get it to display using Symbol font and Alt-0181 (usually the "micro" symbol) but if I open the HTML using Firefox this does not work.

The Unicode abbreviation is &prop; but RoboHelp refuses to accept this, when I insert it in HTML view it converts it to &prop; when I switch back to Design view.

RoboHelp will accept ∝ but IE7 and the CHM viewer fail to display it (Firefox is just fine). The image below summarises the situation.

Note that my SME seems to have incorrectly used "infinity" where he means "proportional"; when he gets back from holiday I'll square that with him. My readers are mathematically literate and will probably see through the mistake and read the formula correctly.

So my options are:
* use Symbol Alt-0181 knowing it will go wrong if we ever go over to WebHelp and Firefox;
* use "infinity" and hope that my readers will forgive me;
* use GIFs and accept the loss of quality

Or does anybody know a way of showing this symbol reliably?

The help says the General tab includes an option to clear project cache before opening a project. I don't see it on the General tab under Project Settings. Please help me find the option.

Combining Robohelp Projects

I have Robohelp 10. I would like to combine two separate robohelp projects into one. Is there any way of doing this? Note I do not want to merge the projects using the merged TOC but rather have one robohelp project instead of two separate ones. How could I go about doing this without importing each html file?

javascript exception error

Hi,

I'm using RH11, Webhelp 11.01.235...

I receive a very vague "javascript alert" error when switching between content categories while viewing in Chrome v37.0. Selecting OK to this message clears it and then I can view my docs okay.

I'm also using Zoom search, and frankly, can't remove it from my project due to the number of files to test. But, this error does not occur when clicking through the toolbar (content, index, print)

Anyone else have this issue? I really need to fix it..........

Multiple Breadcrumb lines in Master Project

Hi,

I am using RoboHelp HTML version 10. I have created a master project containing about 40 individual projects. Of these I have 8 which are showing the breadcrumb line twice and one which is showing it 3 times on each page. Why are these showing multiple times and how do I fix it?

I have also noticed that in each project which is showing multiple lines, it is also showing the name of the project multiple times -

e.g. Home > Doc1 > Doc1 > Introduction

Importing Excel tables into RoboHelp

This procedure worked with RoboHelp 8.0.2, Microsoft Office 2003 and Windows XP. It should be OK for other versions and for OpenOffice but I can't test that here.

My developer proudly gave me a list of 200 error codes as an Excel table with four columns: Number, Description, Source, Possible Solution. Top-class stuff for a service manual, but it meant 800 rounds of Tab Ctrl-C Alt-Tab Tab Ctrl-V Alt-Tab. Being naturally lazy I decided to try an easier way.

In RoboHelp I created a simple table of 2 rows and 4 columns. I formatted the cells as Normal and looked at the HTML.

The Table Row <tr> and Cell <td> structure is easy to see; Each row begins with
<tr><td><p>
Between each cell is
</p></td><td><p>
Each row ends with
</p></td></tr>

First I `cleaned' my Excel sheet; I used Replace All to replace all commas with a string "COMMA". I also replaced ampersands "&" with the html "&" and then replaced greater-than ">" with ">" and less-than "<" with "<"

Then I inserted columns in the spreadsheet and filled them with the HTML table structure described above. I saved the Excel sheet as a comma-delimited file CSV.

I closed Excel and opened the CSV file with a text editor (Notepad).

I used Replace All to remove all commas (inserted by Excel); then restored the real commas by replacing the string COMMA.

Then I copied the entire contents of the file onto the clipboard, and pasted it into the HTML to replace my dummy rows.

That was it! RoboHelp accepted the transplant and I could format the header rows and set column widths in the normal way.

Dear RH and HTML gurus reading this: is my procedure safe? or will something come back to bite me later?

Show Book Title in Search Results

I have a large documentation set and I want to use a merged project in order to seemlessly allow cross-book searching. I would like the book title to appear with topic title, or directly below it when the search results are displayed; so people know which book the results are from. My output format is WebHelp. My input is HTMLHelp. My RoboHelp version is 10.

Any suggestions?

Issue displaying frames in Chrome

Hi all -

We are currently using RoboHelp HTML 7.0

When I publish, frames cannot be viewed when using Chrome, although they are just fine when using IE or Firefox. This is the publically shared URL for accessing this file - http://responsibility.motorola.com/web_help/index.htm

I've been told by co-workers this is not a version issue, it does not work for higher versions of RoboHelp either. Does anyone know the accuracy of this statement? As Motorola is now owned by Google, it's obviously of concern.

Note that I have installed IE extensions for Chrome, it did not make a difference

RoboHelp 10: Where did my images and styles go?

I recently upgraded from RoboHelp HTML 7 to RoboHelp 10. I converted my .xpj project without any problem, and was able to generate my WebHelp files seamlessly....almost!

When I viewed the generated files, I noticed 3 outstanding issues:

1. The images in the topics do not appear in the generated files (although they appear on the RoboHelp Designer page.)

2. The bulleted items are now square, instead of round. (Again, they appear correctly on the RoboHelp Designer page.)

3. The paragraphs that are supposed to be in colored boxes (notes, tips, examples, etc.) no longer show any color, although the note icon assigned to these styles appear. (Here too, the colored boxes appear correctly on the RoboHelp Designer page.)

How do I get these items back?

Duplicate topics in search

Hello,

I am getting double topics appearing in my Search window.

I have read all the posts on this issue and have discovered that if I compile to a folder higher than the project folder, the problem disappears.

From what I have read, it appears that this is due to me having topics that link out to topics in a location higher than my project folder.

But I have no knowledge of having created such links. I have very few external links in my project and they all go to webpages.

Is there a way of searching for the culprit link? Or could the problem be caused by something else?

Hello. I'm using RoboHelp HTML 8.0.2.208. I'm creating an online user manual (exporting as FlashHelp), for which I am capturing many screen shots of my application, and cropping to various sizes (using RoboScreenCapture). I'm editing the size of the new images, and generally "maintaining aspect ratio" and setting the preferred width to 80%. When I initially preview the topic and new image, the image is often (not always) stretched horizontally down the screen. If I close preview, and re-open (without saving or anything), the image is then displayed fine. The same thing is happening with my generated output file, both while viewing in a web browser, and within a JFrame: When you click on a topic in the TOC, the screen-captured images are distorted and stretched horizontally. If you simply re-click the topic and reload the page, the displayed image appears fine. Images in the same topic, further down the page, however, display the same behavior until you re-load with them in the viewing pane.

If there is a fix to this, can it be applied to all of my images? Thank you!!!

Hi, all!

Newbie here again! I am brand new to RH HTML, and have not started a test project yet. I hope to do that this week. My planned outputs are WebHelp, PDF/printed doc, and possibly HTML Help.

I have looked throughout support and have seen some information but not everything I need about multiple language-versions of help.

I am looking for the process to manage development of translated help. I know RH 7 can handle unicode, and the way to create combined TOC entries in several languages--although that doesn't seem practical to me! I saw a topic (started by Kathy McIntyre) about importing translated topics...

My assumed process is that the English version of help content will be developed/updated first, and then Word/rtf files will be sent to translators who *do not use* RH. Do I use a single project file for each help "chapter" and tag languages as output targets? Do I create a chapter project for English and the same chapter project for every other language in a separate directory? How do I split the translated content into topics when I don't speak the language? How do I do "version control" to ensure that each language is updated each release?

I have never been involved in a multi-language development effort and so I have no experience to relate this to. Any guidance will be greatly (and gratefully ) appreciated!

Unable to view Content in Design View

Hello Everyone,

This is my 1st time creating a manual using Robohelp version 7. For some odd reason, in both of the "Topic List" and "Project Manager" pod. I'm unable to view content in a topic that has "DHTML" feature in the Design View. I'm able to see perfectly fine (all content) when in the preview mode. I noticed this issue after I closed out and open the project. Are you experiencing this problem at all? Please let me know what's the best way to fix this issue.

Image Maps with Hover States / Mouseover Effects in Robohelp 7

Image Maps are images with hot spot areas that work like hyperlinks. They are easy to use in Robohelp. Editors like Fast Image-Map 2 do the trick in minutes. The code is like this:

However, the <area> tag cannot be formatted using CSS.

I've tested several solutions using unordered lists and/or javascript. Sometimes they worked in the preview window but not in the compiled CHM or HTM file. Sometimes they didn't work at all.

The following technique ist old-fashioned but works nicely in Robohelp 7. Note: Robohelp 6 does not fully support background images.

1. Put IDs to your links and place them inside a parent element. Here it is a DIV:

You can put the coordinates and dimensions into a CSS stylesheet or the topic file.

How do you get the precise coordinates?

Open the background image in Photoshop or in an editor of your choice. Make a selection where you want to place the hot spot. Click "Transform". Now you can see the coordinates in the info palette.

Copy the selection and open a new document. For the height use 2x the height of the selection. Copy the selection 2x in your new document and place both layers exactly. Now add the desired hover effects to the bottom image. Save the file as a gif. The "height" dimension of the link is the height of the image /2.

#menu = Dimensions and background image of the image map.
#menu = The hyperlinks (hot spots). The position ist set to "relative" because the links are placed into a parent element.

a#device-name = Set the background image for the hot spots. The links have to be placed precisely!
a#device-name:hover = The hover state.

Works nicely, is stable and easily customizable. However, it takes some time to prepare the images.

Not able to import images of Doc File in to Robohelp

some topics don't display on Search tab when they should

Hi,
I'm using Robohelp 6, generating RoboHTML help. Certain topics--it seems to be topics i've created recently--don't show when i search for them on the Search tab of the .chm file. Yet, these same topics show up in the Index and TOC. For example, I have several topics with the term "Paylocity" in the topic title and in the topic text. But on the search tab, if I type Paylocity, i get "no topics found." But I can find all the Paylocity topics in the TOC, and if I type Paylocity in the index, the topics display, as expected, since I set up an index entry for Paylocity.
Just for kicks, i generated a Webhelp file for the same project, and Io and behold, all the topics containing the term "Paylocity" display (and other topics I've created recently that also aren't displaying on the search tab of the .chm file show up in the Webhelp file). Thus, the problem is only occuring in the .chm file.

Embedded PDF not working

Have something weird in my help project and hoping someone has seen this before...

I have a PDF version of the help system (API Documentation) and want to add a hyperlink in a Document Library topic. I do this in all my help systems to allow the user to print up documentation (negates me having to send it).

I create a hyperlink to the PDF file using the Insert=>Hyperlink option and specify the File option and browse to and select my PDF file. I get the message to copy it to the project folder and click OK to copy the file into the project folder. I specify the option to open in a New Window and upate the hyperlink. I then compile my .CHM file.

I then open the help file and access the Document Library topic. When I click the hyperlink from the help topic, I get a web browser instead of Acrobat Reader opening (I do have Acrobat on my PC) and I get a message taht the Server Cannot be Found and the PDF will not display.

I test this same PDF file setup (with the same PDF file) on a test project and it works fine - it opens in a new window in Acrobat. I also compare the reference in the TrueCode window for the hyperlink and it looks identical in the test and live project.

When trying to view the PDF file from the live help system, the new browser window has the following URL:

RoboHelp 10 - Table Preferred Column Width Issue

I converted a RoboHelp 9 project to RoboHelp 10 and noticed that Column 1 in all tables has a preferred width setting of 93% and it is not allowing me to remove this setting. When I uncheck the Preferred width checkbox and click OK, then go back to the Table Properties>Column tab, the Preferred width checkbox is checked again with a width setting of 93%. The column width is not specified in the HTML, it is set to fit to the contents (<col />). The odd thing is that Column 1 only displays this way in Design view. When previewing and publishing the topic, it displays correctly (fits to contents). This however makes editing content in tables extremely difficult in Design view. Any assistance is appreciated.

RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10

Search does not function well when 'Show results that include all search words' is selected

Hi,

I am using RoboHelp 10 and have generated output in HTML5 format. Everything works fine as expected including Search.

However, in some cases when i select the check box 'Show results that include all search words'. Search does not provide me the results.

We are typing the exact string present in TOC and still displays that there are no search results.

Please find screenshot attached. Is there any limitation that the string should contain only limited No. of characters?

RoboHelp 10: Problems generating Printed Documentation

Environment

Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1, 64-bit operating system

Office Professional Plus 2010 Versions 14.0.7106.5001 (64-bit)

RoboHelp 10: 10.0.0.287

Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I open RoboHelp from within Source Control (have been doing it for two years).

Problem

Sometime after moving to RoboHelp 10, and even after successfully generating Printed Documentation output, I encountered a major problem generating Printed Documentation from RoboHelp: “Internal error encountered. Failed to generated Printed Documentation”. The error occurred when I tried to generate Printed Doc using my default TOC, which looks something like this:

Book 1

Book 2

Book 3

Topic C

Topic D

Based on an old Peter Grainge reply to someone about a similar problem, I removed all but the first topic from the Chapter Layout pane and generated the Help. Everything was fine until I got to the topics after Book 3. At that point everything started to fail again. When I removed Topics C, D, etc. from the Chapter Layout pane, the output was built successfully.

I tried moving Topics C, D, etc. to the top of the Chapter Layout pane, and got the same error. I tried creating a new folder and put Topics C, D, etc. into that folder. Failure after failure.

As an experiment, I removed all the Topics C, D, etc from the Chapter Layout pane, but then added them to the Print Document Section Layout pane (not where I want them). The Printed Documentation built successfully.

During attempts to build with Topics C, D, etc. in the Chapter Layout pane, I kept getting a Word error: Word is trying to recover your information. After that there was always a failure.

Selecting PDF as the output did not work when the Topic C, D, etc. files were at the bottom of the Chapter Layout pane.

I create a new TOC and a new Printed Documentation SSL. Failed to generate.

As a matter of reference, I've been generating Printed Documentation from the same TOC for more than a year and so cannot figure out what has changed in RoboHelp or Word to cause this grief .

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Problem opening PDF in Windows 8/2012

Hello,

we have a problem with our CHM files in Windows 8 / 2012 environment.
If we try to open a PDF file with a link inside CHM, it don't open nothing, just shows a little black "X" in the CHM window.
The link are made like this: <a href="file://PATH-TO-THE-FILE">Link name</a>

Please note that we install Adobe Reader, and normally the PDF are showed succesfully inside the browser.
In other operating systems the problem doesn't happens.
Have you an idea of the issue's cause?

How do I migrate Webhelp 5.5 to latest version of RH

Something is wrong with my style sheet, and it only started happening after I created Master Page for the first time. This happens whether or not the new Master Page is applied to a topic: Every time I type any text in a topic, then click the Numbered List icon in the toolbar, the style goes from Normal to (none), and the font changes from my style sheet's Normal 10pt to 8pt, for the number as well as the text.

I don't see how the new Master Page has anything to do with it because it's not applied to this particular topic. I had created a Master Page in RoboHelp HTML and applied my style sheet, then my topics to it. I have a footer in the Master Page and applied 8pt font using inline formatting (not the style sheet).

I created a new project to see what would happen.

When I apply my style sheet, then apply the numbered list to text, the text font is correct (10pt), but the number font is wrong (8pt).

But when I apply the default style sheet to the topic, the number font and text font match.

How can I get the number and text fonts to match in my style sheet?

I found a workaround by applying inline formatting to the next (10pt) after selecting the text and clicking the numbered list icon. Below is the html code. The numbered steps in red are the ones that are not correct (8 pt). The code with the correct formatting (after I applied inline formatting) is in blue.

Master Style page changing/deleting images

Hi all -

This has been a reoccurring problem for quite some time. I have several master style pages in my project; each one is laid out the same with my company's logo and a module name in a header, then a copyright in the footer. While working, I'll get a prompt that says the master style has changed and needs to be reapplied to all the connected pages. This would be self-explanatory if I were editing the headers/footers while working -- But I'm not. Only the page content.

It's always my company's logo that disappears from the header when this happens. This is the prompt I get:

This happens no matter what master style the page I'm working on might have.

(It just happened now and I didn't change anything in the headers or footers.)

Please help.

Robohelp 10 Upgrade loses Resource Links

As a test, I downloaded RoboHelp 10 today and upgraded one of our larger RoboHelp 9 projects. I was surprised, and discouraged, to find that all of the images and snippets that had been previously linked in RoboHelp 9 were no longer linked when I upgraded the project to RoboHelp 10.

I realized that I hadn't included the resource manager locations in RoboHelp 10's resource manager pod, so I added them. Then I made another copy of my RH9 project and upgraded. Again, I had the same outcome: The links were missing.

I checked the rhsharedresources.apj and I found that it was blank (there was the usual XML in the file for a blank shared resource, but all of my other resources were gone).

I also found that I could not simply drag the snippet from the resource manager into the newly upgraded project. It opened and displayed the snippet, but it did not link it. When I tried dragging other snippets (snippets not currently in the project) into RoboHelp 10, the dialog that displays states that the file was skipped because it's not html.

Any suggestions on what to do? I would have assumed Adobe would have planned the upgrade with resource manager and the linked resources in mind.

Robohelp is crashing/v. slow, does it have a memory/topic limit?

I have previously been using Robohelp 8 and have just upgraded to version 9. I found that my version 8 would often crash and most of the time I would have to force the program to close as I couldn't do anything.

I also kept on receiving an error saying out of memory when I was trying to edit topics within the project.

I just upgraded to version 9 as I also upgraded my pc to windows 7 64bit so wanted a version of robohelp that was compatible with this. I was also hoping this would help with the regular crashes. However, as I was upgrading my project, it hovered on not responding for around 15mins and I wasn't able to do anything.

My project has over 6000 topics most with multiple images in them.

I think that it is crashing as it is a 32bit software and is therefore reaching its memory limit as I have such a large number of topics. Is this correct? Does it come as a 64bit version seeing as it is compatible with 64bit (this is what I was hoping for when I upgraded)?

Robohelp 7 HTML problems with whtbar.js and previous topics in WebHelp

Hello,

I have posted before with much success concerning the whtbar.js file. For example, in one of our products, the WebHelp opens within the program, so I had to make sure I always checked in the old whtbar.js file in version control, replacing the latest whtbar.js file creating upon RoboHelp compilation. Otherwise, the previous and next topic browsing wouldn't work. So, that has not been an issue since. Now we have two new products that I have created WebHelp projects for, but the back and forward previous/next topic buttons do not work.

When I compile the projects in Robohelp, the browse sequence left and right arrows appear but do not work. I simply use the browser's back and forward buttons. So, I can only confirm their appearance and thus that a browse sequence is set up in my help project. Well, just over the last couple days I have noticed that those previous and next topic arrows are not working in the two new finished products accessed by a link from a web page.

Should I use the latest whtbar.js file updated upon the last compile and keep that checked into our source control SVN software? Unlike my first WebHelp project, these are accessed from a URL and not from within an .exe. So, I'm thinking that the restriction of using the original whtbar.js file may not apply to the two new WebHelp projects, whose help is accessed from a link on a web page. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I am using RoboHelp HTML 7. Would upgrading eliminate any of these problems? With 7, I have to alter the whver.js file to get the help to work correctly in Google Chrome, so I usually just check all the new files into SVN and then delete that one file and replace it with the file that already had the additional Chrome tag. Are there any features anyone finds particularly helpful in newer versions?

Finally, on an unrelated note, when importing topics into a new project (after importing templates), is there anyway for the copied topics to retain their templates and indexing? Seems like there has to be, but I haven't figured that out yet.

RoboHelp HTML (RH9)

I am using RoboHelp 9.0 to create online Help for our company's flagship software application. The project files are composed in English, and then the components, including topics, toc, glossary, etc. are translated into 21 languages. These languages compile without error, creating the appropirate Contents, Search and Favorites tabs.

The problem I'm having is that the Search function does not work tor the Asian Pacific languages; e.g., Chinese (both traditional and simplified), Korean, Japanese, and Thai. The "No topics found" error message displays, instead of the Search results list. See example below.

Can anyone help? I'm guessing there's a simple solution to this problem, but I'm not finding it in any of the forums or elsewhere online.

RoboHelp 9 Master Pages

My project is upgraded from RoboHelp 7 to RoboHelp 9

I found that when i preview topic, my header / footer images cannot be display, it is empty space, text is fine, whichever text inside a master pages can be display, only the header / footer images cannot be display

I am using master pages (previously template in RoboHelp 7)

I generate the chm file, it does not display the images for header / footer as well

This RoboHelp 9 is so much troublesome, anyone can give some help here

When i create new Master Pages, the body text in as below:-

This is Body Placeholder text for your Master Page. Topics created using this Master

Page will get this text by default. Replace text of this Body Placeholder with your

default content for topics.

"Area outside this Body Placeholder represents the layout of the Master Page which

will not be shown in the associated topics but will be present in the output."

TheBody Placeholder content will be replaced by actual topic content in the output.

Use Master Page to define the layout of your topic in the output.

For the text in double quote, my header / footer is outside the Body Placeholder, what it mean by will be present in the output? after generate the chm file?

I do not see my header / footer images eventhough i generate the chm file and open it

RoboHelp HTML 9.0.1 - My images are not showing when published

Hi all,

We have just upgraded from RH5 to RH9. We are using IE9. All of our projects transferred over just fine - except for one. We are able to publish this topic; however, the images within the topics are not being displayed when we publish - we get the dreaded red 'x'. We can see the images when viewing the topics in RH. However, they are not listed in the images folder in the Project Manager. The images can be seen using Quick view and Internet view. However, they cannot be seen when we generate a Word document.

Every other project is functioning properly. We can publish everything else just fine. This one project is our oldest project, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Any guidance or direction will be greatly appreciated.

RH9 - Import Word 2010 - Bookmarks not working

We use Technical Communications Suite 3 with Robohelp 9 HTML.

I import a Word 2010 doc (about 400 pages) and generate Microsoft HTML help.

In the Word document we have cross-references to headings and bookmarks. The bookmarks work in Word, they work when I convert the Word Doc to a PDF using Adobe Acrobat X, however when I import the document into Robohelp 9 HTML they do not work.

The cross-references to headings work but the ones to bookmarks end up with href="".

I can edit the html and manually put in the href ="filename#bookmark" and it works but I want it to convert automatically upon import. The booksmarks in the word document read "(see page xyz)", where the xzy is the cross-reference to the bookmark, using a pagenumber field, so that in a printed document the user sees the page number and in the PDF, Word Doc, etc. and hopefully in the chm they can just click on the link.

Any help would be appreciated.

How can I change the chm encoding?

Hello everybody!

I'm using RoboHelp9 (Version 9.0.1.232) to create chms for a context-sensitive help.

The htm-topics are UTF-8 encoded, that's fine, but the chm ist Windows 12.52 encoded, an encoding that doesn't work for our purposes because special characters in other languages cannot be displayed correctly.

Can anybody tell me what to do, so that chms are also created with an UTF-8 encoding?

Topics opening in new window

I've run across several posts on how to make a topic open in a new window, but I have the opposite problem. I don't want my topics to open in a new window, but they are.

I have a master project with several child projects merged into it. The Contents tab has a folder called Module Help with subfolders for each of the merged projects. When I expand the TOC for one of the merged projects and click a topic, it displays in the pane to the right as expected. The problem is when I click on a different topic - it opens in a new help viewer window. When I click more topics, they open in this same new window.

I'm using RH X5 to generate .chm files. I'm on Win XP SP3. I didn't set this up, so I'm not familiar with exactly how it all works. The following are sections of code from the master .hhc file that may be useful. If there is something else I can provide, please let me know. Thanks.

We recently installed Robohelp 9 and were planning to publish to SharePoint. When we get to the part where you Edit Destination select SharePoint as the Connection Protocol and put in the UNC path to the document folder on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, then click on OK; we get this error: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect". The users have Full access rights to the SharePoint Document Library. We are running Robohelp 9 on a Windows 7 64bit dual core i3 machine, with 4gb of RAM. Unlike the sharepoint path used in the SharePoint video at this link:

I give up - how are parent/child .chm links maintained?

I've been following the letter of the law (help) for three versions now - RH6, RH7, and now RH8 - and I give up.

What is the magical mystery proper way of maintaining parent/child .chm links in RH8???

Current issue: Since converting projects to RH8, when searching in Help the "Location" display for results reverted to older project names - e.g. "Product08" instead of just "Product", or "Installing Product" instead of "Product Install". I finally tracked this down to the Project Settings, which apparently retains the original name of the project file even after the actual project files and .chms were renamed.

The issue is that after updating these settings, recompiling the child projects and then the parent project, the changes are not showing up, and it seems like 4-5 times a year I have to fight RoboHelp to properly show children projects - I'm constantly encountering missing links, failure to display updated content, doubled search results, empty Index files, etc etc etc. Always seemingly triggered by one simple change here or there, without rhyme or reason. I have followed the RH help file instructions for four years now, and I give up pretending that the current system is working on our end.

So, please, someone, in a dumbed down spelled out Idiots Guide for Dummy Tech Writers for RH8, step by excruciating step, how in the (world) do I maintain such links whenever I make a change in a child .chm? Based on earlier advice, our parent child is pretty much barebones and serves mostly as a shell with links to the children, where all the actual content is held. IE our parent rarely needs updating to its own content, usually once a year for the copyright notice we put on the main title page.

Importing a WinHelp project into RH 8 HTML changes the fonts in all my styles

I am trying to import a WinHelp project created with RH 8 for Word into RH 8 HTML. I have noticed two major things:

1. The first topic is preceded by the names of many fonts. At the end of these set of fonts, my topic appears. I am attaching a partial view of these fonts below:

2. All Topics are imported as far as I could tell at a glance, but all the fonts have changed. I used styles based on the Normal_RWH.dot template that has been modified.

Anyone can tell me how to recover my fonts besides doing so manually?

RH 9 - Connect to Word

I'm trying to generate Printed Documentation. When I do so, .docx is not listed in the "Generate Word DOC" drop list. When I do select .Doc, I get this message "The version of Microsoft® Word you are using has some known limitations with documents that contain a large number of list items (~1500). To avoid this problem, please download the latest Office 2000 service release (SR-2 or later). For more details, please see the online Help.".

I'm using Word 2010 (64-bit) on a Windows 7 (64-bit).

How can I fix this?

HHC3004 Warning

I've read through several of the discussion, and I cannot find a solution for the problem:

HHC3004: Warning: THe HTML tag (string of random symbols) is not a valid HTML tag (it does not begin with an alphanumeric character).

I read in one of the discussions to compile from RH instead of the MS compiler -- I am compiling in RH, but it says Microsoft HTML Compiler, so I may be missing something there.

Any suggestions?

Links to external files don't work

Hello

Using RH 8.02 and converting linked Word docs (Word 2002) to WebHelp. These are policies and procedures that reference external documents.

In my Word doc I have a hyperlink to an external document. This doc is on a network server. In Word I added the hyperlink and it appeared as a relative path, such as ../RelatedDocs/RelDoc1.doc.

The referenced file is an external file, and I don't want to add it to RH because it may be updated; I just want to link to it so that a user gets the latest version.

When I update the HTML files in RH I see this in my HTML file:

<a href="file:////terminus/avbase_techsupport/av-base documents/supportmaster/documentationshare/relateddocs/reldoc1.doc">Related Doc 1</a>

This is the correct absolute path for the referenced file. Note the file://// prefix, with four forward slashes.

When I generate WebHelp, the link doesn't work. Nothing happens.

I tried the following:

1. Copied the whole path into my Windows Start > Run box and hit Enter. Nothing happens.

2. Removed two of the forward slashes and copied it again into the Run box. Now the file opens in Word.

I also tried removing the hyperlinks from the Word docs and adding them through RH instead. Same result.

Why does RH add four forward slashes to the prefix? What can I do to get these external links working?
