Stuck on Loading... screen -- Forever

We have a number of SCORM 1.2 courses published from Captivate 5 that are getting stuck on the grey Loading.. screen.

What is odd about this is that the course launches fine on initial launch.

If you then close after a couple of pages and relaunch, bookmarking works fine; it opens to the correct page.

If you complete the course and close, The content is marked as completed in the LMS.

IF you then relaunch, it takes you to the final page, which has a button to allow you to retake. That button works correctly and navigates to page 1.

If you then navigate a few pages in, close the course and attempt to relaunch, it always hangs at the Loading... page.

Any ideas?

Captivate 8 Retake Quiz

Hello,

I have a quiz set consisting of 11 graded questions with 0 points for each question (these are questions 1-11) and 10 graded questions with a point for each question(these are questions 12-22). If a user does not pass I want them to be able to retake the test by clicking a button that will reset the test and take them to the first question that they get a point which is question 12 (I want to skip the first 11 non-points questions).

Multiple Quizzes with multiple results (in Captivate 6)

Hey guys, Thanks for reading!

Does anyone know if it is possible to do multiple tests with multiple results in captivate 6? or if it is possible to have a pre-test with a quiz, and have separate results for each?

I've been having a play with captivate 6 and when I put a quiz in, it overrides the results slide for my pre-test.

Looking at the results slide master properties I can choose to have results for one of my quizzes but not both (even on separate slides):

It wont even let me insert another slide based on the other result.

I would like to know if multiple quizzes with multiple results is possible in Captivate 6?, or if I am simply doing something wrong?

LMS compatibility issues with Captivate 5

Hi,

As we know, Captivate is based on Flash, and Flash includes what is called ActionScript (AS) programming language which helps developers create course interactivity easily. Adobe recently updated Captivate 5 to include a new version of AS (AS3)- which supposedly makes programming even simpler. But, Adobe also removed the option for developers to select AS2 or AS3 when creating a course and now developers MUST go with AS3 alone.

Our development group has started using Captivate 5 and the courses don’t work in the Cornerstone LMS- they never load- see screenshots below.

We have already escalate to Cornerstone OnDemand and they have their engineering group looking at the issue. But we are not able to post our courses until a workaround to this problem becomes available. Captivate is very popular development software and I'm sure other customers too might have similar compatibility issues.

Request help!

LMS issue (Plateau 5.8) and Captivate 5

We need help to solve the problem and get this Captivate 5 module to run on the Learning Management System.

The module was set to publish in SCORM 1.2.

Quiz = enable reporting for this project

LMS Standard = SCORM 1.2

Report Status = Complete / Incomplete

Report to LMS = Percent

Choose Report Data = Quiz Results Only

Reporting Level = Report Score.

The Plateau 5.8 LMS team is receiving the following error while trying to post and run a Captivate 5 module.

The tech person discovered that what’s happening in the attached code is that the module will try to communicate with the LMS for 1 second.

By that time if the LMS does not communicate back, an error is generated and the script times out.

Since this threshold is really low, and the page may take more than this time to load, he tried updating the script to wait for a full minute before timing out. (See below). However, that did not solve the problem.

This chunk of javascript code was created by Captivate, (on line 236 of the html file) when the module was published:

1000 = 1 sec. 10,000 would be 10 seconds. He set the threshold to 1 min. (added two zeros, i.e. (*100000).

Passed/Completed option selection missing for SCORM2004

I am having problem with my course being marked by my LMS as completed even after the student completes the course and gets a passing grade on the test. My LMS is SuccessFactors (formerly Plateau) and their tech support says that the completion status must be "Passed" and not "Completed".

I am using Captivate 7 and have found that if I publish to SCORM 1.2, I have the option to select a status of either Completed or Passed.

But if I select SCORM 2004, the option to select the Lesson_Status is not there.

After looking through the JavaScript which is produced by publishing to SCORM 2004, it appears to be setting the Lesson_status value to "completed" instead of "passed".

I am trying to use SCORM 2004 ver 2 because my students will be using devices which run Adobe Flash, but also IOS devices (like the iPad).

This is our first online course and it needs to be in Production by next week.

I even tried following the very nice SuccessFactors setup instructions given by Eric Nolian over at:

Can anyone give me any idea about how to make this Captivate 7 course work on SuccessFactors? Are there ways to "fat-finger" the Javascript to make it say "Passed" instead of "Completed"?

It not, can anyone tell me if using SCORM 1.2 and HTML5 will work on both Flash-based devices and IOS devices?

Captivate Quiz locks when using Back button then going forward...

I have built a short Captivate 5.5 project with only 30 slides. It contains content, 7 practice quiz questions sprinkled in (score = 0), and a 5 question quiz at the end (score = 20 each).

Some of the practice questions have content slides between them. (This is where the locking occurs; usually)

The client wanted the practice questions to be answered before moving on so I have a global quiz setting of "Answer All" and set up each practice quiz with Advanced Answer Options that give specific feedback; forcing you to get it correct before moving on.

I first built this with no back button. It is so short I put a button just before the graded quiz that would take the person back to slide 1 (outside of quiz scope), allowing them to view the content again before the graded quiz.

The feedback I received is that it is irritating to have to A. go back to the beginning, and B. re-answer the questions. I fixed the "re-answering" problem by adding a non graded quiz element to slide 1, fooling captivate into including the entire project within quiz scope.

I fixed the "go back to the beginning" problem by allowing backward movement and adding a skip button to the practice questions. This works beautifully by disabling the skip button until the question is answered corrrectly. Also, if I use the BACK button to return to this question the SKIP button is now active - this is good!.

The problem is: most of the time, if I do a lot of clicking back and forth the project locks up. I am unable to move forward (NEXT button does not work). I can still keep going back, but if I go forward again, I can never get past the slide I originally locked on. USUALLY this is a content slide between two of the practice quiz slides. However, I have also made it lock on some of the practice quiz slides if I revisit them (SKIP button does not work).

If I click through from start to finish and don't do "too much" backward movement, I have no issues. Grading works great and reporting functions to the LMS.

I have attached a picture of the process that might help describe what I am trying to accomplish.

Any help would be appreciated...

SumTotal is ending course with passing score on quiz

I am using Captivate 3 and SumTotal 8.2. I have a quiz with 10 questions and a passing score of 90%. Once you reach the passing score, SumTotal displays the "you have completed the course" pop-up and will not let you get a 100% score. I have even published with the score and screen completion option. Is there a fix for this that let's the user get to the results screen and possibly get a 100% score?

Captivate 8 problem exporting SCORM package into Moodle

SCORM 1.2 Complete/Pass/Fail Status Reporting

I am have a great deal of trouble getting proper reporting. Here are the details:

We are using EX LCMS and SCORM 1.2

Captivate 5

The goal is to have the courses report incomplete (with no score but I'll settle for Zero) until the user has attempted the Quiz at which time the Course should report Pass or Fail and the appropriate Score.

I WAS getting these results a couple of months ago using the following settings:

That is no longer working. The LMS people said they haven't changed anything...

They have set up an account for me that has a debugger that spits out everything that Captivate hurls their way. Eye opening.

They (LMS) can override and it is in their programming to do so - to set a Pass/Fail when the course sends a "Complete" status. But what I have observed is that Captivate only sends a complete status when the student PASSES the Quiz so we will never actually see the failed status because Captivate persists in sending "incomplete" until the quiz is passed.

I am finding other problems with the data that captivate is sending (or in some cases not sending) but this is the most serious problem and I need to find a solution/combination of settings to get the proper output. There doesn't appear to be any detailed documentation on settings and the resulting SCORM output.

Retake Button Disappearing Before Completion

I selected the quiz review option in the course and added a skip button to each quiz page for the user to navigate through the Quiz Review. While testing the course, the Try Again shows up after the first attempt. When I click on Review Quiz, the course functions properly. It shows the incorrect answers. When I review the course and navigate back to the Review page, the Try Again button does not appear. The Try Again button is an auto-generated button that has no option besides on and off and it should only disappear if the user gets a passing grade. When I navigate back to the test to try to take it again using the TOC, the test shows the incorrect answers in the test. This will allow the user to just select the correct answer. After I have navigated through the test for another try, the Try Again button appears again.

I want the user to have infinite attempts and still have the ability see which questions they got wrong in the review, but to disappear on the next attempt at the test. I also want the Try Again button to remain on the reivew page, every time.

From what I can gather, the Try Again and Quiz Review cannot work together in a course properly. The Try Again and Quiz Review work when used separately, but tend to cause confusion in the course when used together.

Send Drag and Drop Source to original position - Not working

I'm getting great answers here, so....

I've created a drag and drop in which student drags three different types of fractions into the correct drop targets.

I've checked 'send drag source to original position but the drag object stays wherever it is put. I would like it to pop right back immediately if dragged to the incorrect drop target.

Is there something else to be done to make the drag source pop right back to its original position immediately if not dropped into the correct drop target?

Is there a simple way of making multiple words that need to be filled in within the one slide?

Even better would be able to have marks awarded to each word

Background Music During Quiz Slides

I am using Captivate 4 and would like to add some backgound music when the learners start taking the quiz slides that are at the end of a project.

What I am unclear of is how to correctly set this up, so the background music only starts when the learner moves to the first quiz slide and continues to the end of the last quiz slide, regadless of how long that takes as the time required per quiz slide and for the overall period of the quiz will vary depending on how long each learner takes to answer the questions.

Any help (in simple terms please) would be much appreciated.

Captivate Quiz weighting of questions

Hi,

i'll try to explain what my question is. I would like to make an assessment/quiz in Captivate 5. The point is, we need to be able to adapt the difficulty level of the questions to the participant's answers.

E.g. a participant answer correctly to three questions. Question 4 will then be a question that we weighted to be more difficult. He also answers correctly to this question. The following 2 questions have the same difficulty level as question 4. Participant answers correctly. Difficulty level increases again for question 7. This time, his answer is wrong, as is with question 8, but question 9 is correct (which means he answered 2 out of 3 wrong of the most difficult questions until now.). For question 10, the difficulty of the questions will again be less than for questions 7 through 9. And so on...

Could anyone tell me if this is possible?

Using Captivate with SharePoint

I apologize in advance, the "search within this forum" function is not working, so I can't search the Captivate forum to see if this question has already been answered.

When you develop training and quizzes in Captivate, I've heard you can post the files on SharePoint, and then SharePoint will capture the student information and quiz results. Has anyone successfully done this just using a standard SharePoint site, and not the SharePoint LMS that is offered?

I have been trying to retrieve learner's name from LMS to create training certificate; I added a function to get 'cmi.learner_name' in scorm_support.js; called this function from a slide onload settings Java Script. but it returned 0.

When I investigated through SandBox registration in Scorm Cloud for the training; it shows the variable cmi.learner_name and its value is set there as registrant name. in debug log report; it says

Quiz check boxes/option buttons missing from HTML5; OK in SWF

Here's a fun one. I'm using Cap 7.0.1.237: current for today's date. I'm using standard quizzing, including multiple choice with both single and multiple answers. When I publish to SWF, the option buttons and check boxes are visible; however, they are missing in the HTML5 version. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Analyser not showing results after update

Can someone please view the below and help me to determine why the results are no longer being downloaded. Or point me in the right direction of support or a support online chat.

We just did an upgrade of the Adobe Captivate Quiz Results Analyzer 1.5, before the update i could successfully download to disk all of the quiz results and access all of the .xml files. After the upgrade I cannot download the results to disk or generate report. I have deleted the internal server locations and tried readding these and haven't had any success. I get a message when trying to download report which says "Data is not present on local file system. Downloading Course Data...." and then "Download could not be completed" When i try to save to disk I get an error message which says "Downloading Course Data...." and then "Download could not be completed"

The client is also having the same issue accessing the results on their end.

Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated

Trouble downloading quiz results from internal server on one computer

Hello,

We have tested 525 students with Captivate 5.5 and used alternate reporting to an internal server. I am able to "get results" on my computer with the Captivate Quiz Results Analyzer. My colleague and head of testing cannot. When she goes to "Get Results" she gets the following error message:

Data is not present on local file system: downloading data, and then Error: Cannot be completed.

The data is present as I am able to view it, why can she not access the results?

We have held an earlier testing session last month (February 2013) with the same amount of students and both she and I can access these test results perfectly. Can someone advise us how to resolve this issue?

API Error

I have published a Captivate 6 project to our Plateau LMS. When I try to launch the project I get the following error:

An error has occured: Error - unable to acquire LMS API, content may not play properly and results may not be recorded. Please contact technical support.

When I click OK in the dialogue box, the project opens and plays successfully.

I imagine I am not setting something in the SCORM settings correctly, yet I'm not sure what. I am using SCORM 1.2. Any ideas?

I'm trying to make Captivate 5 specify which questions the user got wrong when pulling a report from the LMS.

I've done this in the past with Captivate 3 by doing the following:

Create multiple question slides.
Modify the Interaction ID of each question individually.
- I re-key the question in the "Interaction ID" field of each question slide.
The Interaction ID of each question matches the question itself, all within the same course.

When the user is done, I'm able to see not only how many questions they got wrong, but also identify which questions they got wrong (by name). Unfortunately, I'm not able to do this in Captivate 5, as it only lets me add ONE Interaction ID for all the questions.

So the real question I'm trying to ask is:

Can I assign a different "Interaction ID" to each question within one project in Captivate 5?

5.5 Quiz Results Text Styling Problem

I've created new caption and button styles for my quizzes. All works well except for the quiz results page, where all text captions disregard the new styles. The Scoring Result, Scoring Result Label, and Review Area all won't accept my new styles when published. Any ideas?

How to report custom SCORM variables with Javascript

Hi all

After the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into the project I've been working on for the past week, I decided to share this with you in case anyone else wants to do something similar.

What this does

Basically, this will allow you to use text boxes on slides as a full-blown SCORM-compliant quiz that has multiple possible inputs and partial scoring. I'll explain more about that in a bit.

Let's say we want a question that asks someone to introduce themselves on the phone. Ordinarily, with a short answer question you would put something like "Hi, my name is [name]". But what if your user actually types something like "Hello, you're speaking to [name]."? It's a valid thing to say, they should certainly get a point for it. But by the standard rules of short answer marking, they wouldn't get it. And that's why I decided to try this.

1. The first thing we need is a slide, on which we'll put the question as a caption, along with a text input box into which the user can enter their answer. The project I did actually has about 10 questions per slide, each of which has its own input box. (there are 44 questions in total).

Make sure you name the variable for the input box something you can easily remember later, and if you have multiple boxes it's a good idea to give them sequentially numbered names, for reasons that will soon become apparent.

2. Make a new slide, and in its "On Enter" action, choose "Execute Javascript". In the script window, enter the following: (I called the variables for my input boxes s[slide number]_txt_Q[number of question], so I used a for loop to put all my answers in an array. I had to split the processing over 10 slides because of Captivate's Javascript window character limit, but it only takes a couple of seconds to process it all.

That's a pretty simple regular expression for the purposes of the demonstration, but they can be as simple or as complex as you need them to be as long as you know what you're doing with them. If anyone wants I can do a regex tutorial at some point, but I don't foresee there being enough interest in this topic to warrant going into it in detail just now.

Essentially, what this does is store the answer to the question in an array, then check that answer against a pattern for what you're looking for. Then it adds the score that part of the question is worth, and assigns the variable's value to cpQuizInfoPointsscored. Finally, it forces a jump to the next slide.

If you're carrying on the score processing in a new slide (because of the character limit you can only have about 4-5 questions per slide or the Javascript won't run) you need to change the setting of the score variable slightly:

This does a number of things:

1. Calculate the session time based on Captivate's elapsed time in milliseconds and send it to the LMS in proper SCORM format

2. Send the max and raw scores to the LMS. The reason we need to send max score like this is that for all intents and purposes the Captivate project has no scoreable objects and as far as Captivate is concerned the max score is 0.

3. Send the lesson status depending on pass criteria (in this case a score of 85% or higher. I used score because in this case the max score is 100 so the actual score will also be the percentage, but if you have more or less available points it would be better to reuse the percentage variable).

4. Commit the scores and finish processing

5. Force the project to close.

This essentially sends our own variables to the LMS and then cuts it out before Captivate can send its own to overwrite ours. This has only been tested on my Moodle site but I don't see why it wouldn't work with other systems. It correctly reports score, pass status, and the time taken.

CP5 using Quiz Results Analyzer having internal server reporting problem

Hi,

I have been searching through the internet for the past few days and I am unable to find a solution to a current issue that I am having with the Quiz Results Analyzer when trying to read quiz results from an internal server

I have a Windows 2003 server with IIS 6 and PHP installed and the internalServerReporting,php script is working just fine and creates the quiz results into the appropriate XML files as expected; However, when I load into Quiz Results Analyzer and press the "Get Results" button, the correct "Organization", "Department" and " Course" information is loading. This is where the problem occurs; After pressing the "Generate Report" button, I get a message saying "Data is not present on local filesystem. Downloading course data" but then nothing appears in the window

Just for a trial, I tried loading the course results using "Generate Report" after installing the Quiz Results Analyzer on the same server as where my XML files are being hosted and choosing "From this computer" as my source, all of my course data shows up as expected.

Any ideas why I am having trouble generating the report when using the Quiz Results Analyzer using the internal server option?

Any troubleshooting tips would also be appreciated if no solutions are in mind

I have a 13 page 'reader' where a learner only needs to view the slides and when they get to the end, close the course.

I am on Saba 5.4.3. I am publishing to SCORM 1.2 but can not seem to get the 'course' to go to "Transcript".

I have tested almost every combination of 'settings' (albeit - the right one - which is eluding me).

Here is the settings that get me to show the course 'completed' in the 'TOC' yet when closed stays in enrollments.

Adding user variable to test result message - Captivate v4

Captivate v4, Windows XP.

I have a test which starts with user variable to capture the learners name etc.

I have created a "pass" certificate that only those who pass will see. (FYI...Enabling the learner to print their certificate in landscape from Cap 4 is another challenge, not covered on this thread, but if anyone has the free answer, please let me know).

What I would like the learner to see on the test results slide is their name taken from the user variable at start of project. eg.g Well done <Noel>, you have passed, where <Noel> is the user variable.

I see you can "edit" the pass/fail messages via the Review Area on the test results screen...but how can I insert the user variable, so the message says something like....Well done <Noel>, you have passed ....

We've recently updated to Captivate 7. We use custom interaction ids to identify the question number (Question01, Question02, ...). Since the upgrade, the interaction ids are coming across with Question01 and the text from the actual question (Question01Whats1plus1?). How can we make it just show the custom interaction id?

Creating Knowledge Check Questions Out of Quiz Scope

I'm pretty certain this has not changed in Cap 6, so it remains a glaring omission from the product but maybe I'm missing something. I've reviewed a number of articles and hoped that pretest might be helpful but I do not think such is the case.

I simply want to create knowledge check questions along the way through the course that are not scored and are not part of the final test. Right now, I believe the only way to do that is to create custom questions from scratch. Is that correct?

So what I think Adobe needs is an additional property for a quiz slide: "out of scope" or "review only" or whatever that makes it easy to create this very basic type of question. I've got to think about why an unscored questions is still part of the quiz scope. I'm sure there's a reason but initially makes sense to me that an unscored question might not be included in the quiz scope.

I know I can use variables to count final trest questions and "fake out" the retry/review process but they come with their own set of issues if the learner has gone through the course once and answered questions. I don't think we should have to code all that.

Assuming this a is the case, I guess it's time to submit another enhancement request. I encourage anyone else looking for the same feature to do so as well.

Navigating Table of Contents with Module Reviews and Knowledge Checks

I have been using 5.5 for at least 3 months without issue.

My current course is being published SCORM 1.2 to SumTotal LMS, but that is not relevant at this time.

I have 3 modules in the course (3 module reviews and sets of knowledge check questions).

Each set of knowledge check questions are 3 random questions from respective quiz pools.

The final quiz is the only one with weighted values that report to the LMS.

Problem...

When you click past the Module Review (use Module Review 2) and take the knowledge check questions, and then click that Module Review 2 page via the Table of Contents, the Next and Back buttons do not work and everything freezes.

This even happens when in preview mode in Captivate, and I don't even have to post to LMS.

Help, please!

Implementing Knowledge Check Quizzes before Final Exam

Hello Captivate World,

I have pretty much finished a training module for a client. In this module we were asked to implement a few ungraded knowledge check quizzes before the graded final exam. Since Captivate 5 only allows 1 quiz per module, I created the ungraded knowledge check question slides using multiple choice answers linked to their specified hotspots as a solution. The user selects an answer and a timed response will let the user know whether they got the answer right or wrong and why. The problem is users can select multiple answers on these slides because there is nothing forcing the user to only select one answer. I saw a thread a while ago about making unique quizzes from scratch and if someone could forward me the link to find that would be great but I was hoping there was a way to force the user to only be able to select one answer with the slides I've already created. Thanks in advance...

Hello, I am just starting out with captivate 5 so please be kind if this is a silly question.

I am trying to setup a quiz I set "fill in the blanks" and set 4 questions.

(This will just be a stand alone test and I dont need support for LMS)

when the user finishes the test and click on review quiz, all the "review feedback messages" I am trying to set the correct answer for each slide but when I do that it seems to update all of the questions putting the same answer.

Any hints or can some one tell me what i am doing wrong ?

Launch Full Screen in Moodle (Scorm Compliant)

Now that I have resolved my original issue with Captivate + Moodle & Scorm, on to the next question

I have created a test CP4 module at 800 X 600
When setting up the Scorm module in Moodle, I have had dramas getting the Stage Size set correctly.
Entering either 100% & 100% (as suggested in another forum) or 800 X 600 does NOT result in a stage of that size. Resulting in the user having to scroll to view the window even though there is sufficient space on the window.
Also, content is shoved across due to a side navigation panel:

I am hoping to either be able to hide the navigation panel (Moodle issue, have posted in Moodle forum) or launch the CP4 file in a full screen window
So . . . to my Captivate question . . . how can I edit the launch file generated by CP4 to force the content to open in a full screen window (without breaking the SCORM connection?)

Captivate API type in Proprietary System example help

Hi all, thanks in advance, I really need some help/advice here...

Several days ago I ran into a problem while using a very nice example from here (http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/03/track_proprietary/index.php) and last night I figured out what the problem is. For those wondering which example I was using, it was the Captivate Sample4_DatabaseTracking one. I am on a mac using the latest Firefox and Safari (just to get it to work, then will test with IE of course).

Originally I was getting a "g_ObjAPI.LMSInitialize is not a function" error and blank js alerts which, being a little new to php/js, stumped me for a couple days. This is because g_intAPIType was being set to 1 after not detecting Internet Explorer and then using Captivate_DoFSCommand functions which threw the error.

I discovered that in the htm template the tracking would only work in Safari/Firefox if g_intAPIType=0 (see excerpt below)...

Keyboard shortcut not working

I am using Captivate to create a system simulation where the documentation is in a separate window. For example, when the learner goes to the documentation window and is instructed to "Press Enter to validate," the Enter key does not work. It does however work if the learner does not leave the window. Even if you click on the screen and press Enter, it does not recognize the action however the click does work.

I currently have the shortcut on a click box but the have same result on a button.

Anyone else? Any ideas?

can captivate write to a csv file?

My team develops a questions file currently in RoboDemo that is nothing more than a test of about 10 - 15 question slides. We still have to use RoboDemo because we need the file to be able to send the results to a .csv file. We were able to find code to do this in RoboDemo, but have not found the equivalent in Captivate. I saw ways to email the results, and the output that we need is similar, but we need ti to go directly to a .csv file instead of being written to an email. Any thoughts?? Captivate works great with all our other files, but for the questions, we have to revert back to RoboDemo. Please help.

Internal server reporting, why the generation of the result xmls stops after a while?

Hello,

I installed a wamp server on my computer and did all the steps for the internal server reporting to take place.

And it worked brilliantly.

But then it stopped working after 4 or 5 attempts. Meaning, the xml files in the course folder wouldn't get created.

I built another test learning object and it worked again.. and then it stopped working again.

I'm really confused about what prevents the xml files from being generated by the LO. Looked up inside the CPM.JS but it's a bit too messy for me.

Has anyone got this problem, and solved it?

2 things I do which might have an impact on the result:

- I fill in the value of cpQuizInfoStudentID and cpQuizInfoStudentName before the final form, either from inside the LO itself or via the url (http://localhost/myLOfolder/index.html?cpQuizInfoStudentID=tatata&cpQuizInfoStudentName=ta tata)

But as I said before it did work for some time in both cases.

- I open the LOs with several different browsers and OS (my comp is windows but I connect mobile devices to the server, running on android, and I use chrome)

The xml file did get generate when the LO was open on the tablet once, but stopped working soon after.

Would be great to hear from people who have got some experience with this internal server reporting or from the adobe staff!
