Can Reader users Save Form and Preserve data?

I designed a form with Livecycle Designer and sent it to a few people who have Reader only. They are able to fill in the form but when they try to save it they get a message stating: "Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a blank copy of this form."

This product seems absolutely useless if users cannot save their forms. I have to believe I've made a mistake or placed some restrictions on the form that is forcing this error. I've read in other posts that people are indeed sending forms to customers to fill out and email back. So saving from Reader must be possible right?

Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong? Thanks.

PDF form - email subject line = field

I am creating a PDF form on our intranet to be filled out and submitted via email with a submit button. All works well, but the recipients would like the subject line of the email to be info from the first field on the form so that it is easily searchable. I am using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 (also have Acrobat 8 Professional) but haven't found anywhere to edit this info. I have read thread referencing possible solutions by utilizing javascript, but I'm not sure where to begin where javascript is concerned (not my forte).

Right now the form is Submitted by Email via a "Button" set to Control Type: Submit. Under the Submit tab I have set the Submit to URL field to - mailto:"emailaddress".

Also, the recipients mentioned that they can't see the PDF in the body of their email, instead its only an attachment. We are all using Outlook and Outlook Webmail and would like to see the PDF in the body. Is there an easy way to accomplish this as well?

Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I've created a form in LiveCycle which will be seen and filled by users who only have Reader.

Once the form is completed, the user has to click three buttons: one prints the page (for a specific paper-based usage required by the filler of the form). The same button sends the entire form to one e-mail address.

The second button prepares the form for submission to a second e-mail recipient. This recipient must not be able to see some of the filled fields on the form. As well as setting these fields to invisible, the second button also hides key fields behind a text message, telling the second recipient where to find the information that is most useful to them on the form. Again, this recipient will be using only Acrobat Reader.

Everything works fine, apart from when it comes to e-mailing the form to the second recipient. I've used various scripts I've found on this forum and elsewhere to lock fields before sending and I've extended Reader rights in Acrobat. But, whatever I do, the form received by the recipients is STILL editable, the "invisible" fields are visible again and also editable, and the test box that obscured key fields has become invisible again.

I've already tried using a range of scripts that I've found both on this forum and elsewhere (including Paul Guerrett's 'Lock All Fields' and 'Lock All Fields Not Buttons' scripts. I've also tried using the scripts in different 'events' - mouse up, mouse down, click etc.

What am I doing wrong? I've spent days trying to figure this out and I'm getting nowhere.

I am a JavaScript novice, by the way. So please keep it simple and (better still) provide working script! Thanks to anyone who can help

Unable to Preview forms

I have a problem with Livecycle Designer where whenever I try to preview any of my forms I get the message "There is a problem with Adobe Actobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (507:507)", and instead of the prview I get an internet explorer style "This program cannot display the webpage" page.

It also seems to often make the Adobe Reader open up.

I am running 64 bit Windows 7 and have Adobe Reader X and Livecycle Designer 9.0.0.0.20091029.1.612548.

Any suggestions?

Add row / delete row in PDF Form

Alright so I am really struggling here and no one has been able to provide me a solid answer to date.

1. I am creating a PDF form I want users to be able to fill and remit via email

2. I have created the form in Acrobat 9 Pro via the form Wizard and in some combination with MS Word 2007 for text and table fields to get the forms wizard to auto-populate Adobe form fields.

3. Some of the tables, i.e. In the first table for "Full Time" and "Part Time" should have check boxes - works fine to date. While others should have drop downs, i.e. platform build, etc - works fine to date.

4. This is the pressing issue. As they exist today there is a large table as you can clearly see. I want users to be able to simply click an "Add Row" or "Delete Row" button to add another row to the table (or delete) without having to have a massive table.

I've watched demos on Lynda.com (all of which are irrelevant and provided 0 value), tried to work with what people have responded with previously but all are mainly sample documents and I don't know where to start. In short, I open my form and other forms in LifeCycle Designer ES, take a look at the buttons people have created, the scripts, the XML source, etc. but no idea where to go. If the button needs to be in the table. How it should be scripted. etc. I cannot find a video tutorial anywhere on the web and all the responses simply provide a sample but no idea how to make it a reality in terms of translating their sample into a working dynamic form in PDF. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Content is not shown with acrobat reader

Hi,

I created a simple form with Livescycle and even if when i look at the PDF with adobe reader, i can see enought privilege, i cannot really save the content.

Basically, i can open the PDF, fill the fields, save the document but when i reopen the document afterward, the content has disapeared. If i look at the same PDF with notepad, i can see the values next to the field but the values are not visible anymore in the reader.

Import XML data at load of PDF form

Not sure that this is the correct forum, but it looks like a good place to start.....

This is my question:

At this moment we use an MS Excel file that runs a macro at startup that imports fielddata from an external xml-file. So, a user that opens the Excelfile will not have to fill in customer-data that is supplied by the xml-file. It is automaticly filled. For example Customer name, address, postcode etc.

Now, we have created a simular form in Adobe Livecycle, but we cannot get the xml-data to be imported just like the Excelfile does.

Is it possible, and how is it done, to open a pdf-form, import data from an external xml-file, all without user interaction?

Hope that my question is clear. Please advise

Adding attachments to PDF form

I tried everything and looked everywhere and can't find the best solution to this problem. I just need a way for the user to attach documents to a PDF form in Adobe Reader. I have access to LiveCycle and Acrobat so is there way once the extended features are enabled for a user to add attachments to the form in Reader. I have LiveCycle ES 8.2.1. I guess the only possible way is when the user emails the form they can add the attachments then but I just want to see if it can be done by attaching to the actual form.

Actually Adobe acrobat having built-in option as "Export XML". But in reader there is no option like that. But I can able to get the exported XML using submit button. But without using button/Adobe work bench what are all the possibilities to get it?

Flowing text onto a second page

I have a form where I am pasting text in a subform (occupies an entire page) a lot of text. Everything works fine when the pasted text is more then one page and I get scrolling bar at the right and a black and white + at the bottom right. The problem is I want the text to be flowed on to the next page. This is needed because the form may need to be printed and faxed sometimes.

I have tried several tricks but so far I have not stumbled upon a good solution!

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I have a form that check for data validation using script. If the "Enable Acrobat JavaScript" is not check at the Adobe Reader, the form data validation will not be executed. How can I solve this problem? Any script to enable the javascript? There is this AddRequirement method for the document object, I tried but don't seem to work. Thank you.

calculating times in 15 minute increments

Good Afternoon,

I am making a form where we report how much leave is being used. The leave will be reported in 15 minute increments. (Ex: fifteen minutes = .15; one-half hour = .30; 45 minutes = .45) I need to be able to add these up and have them keep this format of 15 minute increments. Also, I need the display to be a decimal instead of a colon, if possible. (Ex. 3.45 instead of 3:45).

any advice is appreciated!!!

LiveCycle Designer "Menu Bar" missing

How can one get the menu bar back (File, Edit, View ... Window, Help) in LiveCycle Designer ES (8.2)?

It's installed as part of Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows Vista.

In the process doing screen prints and dragging images between documents (e.g., paint and word) I mistakenly dragged the menu bar off the LiveCycle Designer work area. On another monitor I realized it wasn't acting like what I was going to paste and (not realizing what it was) took it to the lower left of the monitor (out of the LCD screen) and dropped it. Going back to LCD I discovered that it must have been the menu bar and ... not to be found.

I've uninstalled Acrobat 9 Pro, rebooted, removed the Users/<username>/App Data/Roaming/Adobe/Designer folder, and then did a complete install (not 'Typical', not 'Custom') of Acrobat 9 Pro and STILL NO MENU BAR.

The menu bar acts almost like a toolbar or palette but is apparently treated differently ... position, etc stored in the registry?

I also saw that F9 supposedly restores the menubar in Acrobat 8 on Windows (but no effect in LCD); also tried the Acrobat 8/Mac solution (Ctrl-Shift-M) with no effect.

Also, doing a restore is not an option (thanks to our system folks).

Any help appreciated.

XML database not loading

I have a xml database that has some information which is loaded into a drop down menu on my form. While I am in Live Cycle Designer and use the pdf preview, the dropdowns populate correctly and show what is in the database but when I open up the form in Adobe Reader, the dropdown show null. How can I remedy this problem?

Text Field Align Bottom

I'm wishing to change the alignment of text fields from top alignment to bottom alignment. When right click the field and choose styles > create a new style > Value Text Formatting, I can change the vertical alignment. But I can't do this for many fields at once. How I can change or apply a style to many fields? The Style Editor is greyed out when I select several fields but yet when I'm in the style editor with one field selected I see a button on the bottom that says "apply to selection."

Auto-populate form fields based on end user input?

I'm currently attempting to create a new form that has a combo box "Locations" with various options. What I'm looking to do is have another text field auto populate other fields related to that location (such as address, contact information) to save on time and reduce opportunity for end user errors in input.

What are my options for accomplishing such a task? Some form of binding fields with a MS database possibly?

How do I access LiveCycle Designer from my Adobe Acrobat X Pro?

I am unable to access LifeCycle ES2 from my Adobe Acrobat X pro, even though I am supposed to have it as part of the software. I have tried Forms/Edit forms, and I have looked for it through all the menus. Several of the helps I have found for other things has me launch LifeCycle and operate from screens that LifeCycle designer provides.

I am using Windows XP professional.

I would appreciate all the help I can get on this.

Setting Image URL dynamically

OK, I have a dynamic form that I am using an Image control on. I am using an Image, NOT an Image Field because I don't want the user to be able to click on the image and change it. I can set the URL property of the Image on Designer's object tab and the image shows up fine when I view the form. Here's the complication: the image URL needs to change a bit each time the form is rendered. So one time it may be http://www.domain.com/generate_image.php?image_id=1 and the next time it may be http://www.domain.com/generate_image.php?image_id=2. I tried setting the URL via JavaScript like this:

Page1.logo.value.image.href = "http://www.domain.com/generate_image.php?image_id=1";

The image_id will be pulled from the XML data that gets passed to the form. This successfully sets the URL property, but the image at the URL doesn't show up in the image control. I tried putting the JavaScript in several different events, like form:ready, docReady, etc, but none of them work.

I really need to show an image via a URL that can change, but I don't want to use an Image Field since the user can click on it and change the image.

Ideas?

Populate Text Field Based On Drop-Down List Selection

New here, can someone help with the following;

Dropdown list > address info is based on list selection (address info is multiple lines "address, city, st, zip, phone"

So user is filling out a form, selects recipient, and the address info + phone populates on it's own (into a text box) based on the item selected in the drop down.

How to count Records in a Table and/or Form

I have a Table which is being passed to my context in the ADOBE Form. I need to be able to count the # of records in this table. I don’t have to display the actual table in this case on the form, I just need the record count. And, I need to do this using JavaScript and I don’t know anything about Java (although if FormCalc works I can use this as well). My Tablename is Customer and on my form it is in the Hierarcy data.main.customerbody.customerline. If I have to have this table data on the form then I can just put it on the form and make it invisiible. I really only need to count the # of records though and return this # to a Text Field on the form.

Does someone know how to do this and can you give me an example in either Java for FormCalc? The more specfic you can be with the scripting example the better for this newbie. thx!

Multi-line entries in drop-down

Hi - I have a drop-down with a very long list, displaying in a fixed field area. Some of the entries are very long, and since the drop-down only allows one line, the rest of the entry is obscured. Is there any way to get the drop-down to display multi-line? Or at least to commit the selection to the fixed filed area as multi-line?

I'm working with SAP.

On my current project I would like to implement a customer form via Adobe Lifecycle Designer.

I'm going to ask a developer to implement the following logic:

There is a fixed rectangular area in the form. This area should represent a text.

In case of long text I would like to reduce the font size to fit the text into the area. It should look like that

Text alignment within the area is Horizontal Centered, Vertical Centered
Text wrap is on
Font is Arial, initial size is 10

Is it possible to implement?

Database connection is not working in Free Acrobat Reader

Hi,

I am working on a pdf that imports data from an sql server. I got it working flawlessly in livecycle and in Acrobat Reader Pro. But in Free acrobat reader it makes an index error on the click event on the button that runs the javascript for getting a record.

I applied reader extension from Acrobat Reader Pro, but never the less it won't work.

My question: Does Free Acrobat Reader support this kind of database lookup with RE enabled.

I have tried both with formcalc and javascript. Both works in livecycle and the pro version of acrobat reader.

I am only working on the client side and do not utilize livecycle server.

How do I write a specific IF statement in Adobe LiveCycle's FormCalc?

I am trying to use an IF / ELSEIF formula in FormCalc to autopopulate a text field in a table, but I keep getting a syntax error. Could someone please help?

My table has 2 rows and 2 columns. I named each cell (using Binding) in Column 1 as Data1 and Data2 respectively. Both cells in Column 1 contain a dropdown menu of numbers 1, 2, and 3. I want to create a FormCalc IF expression in Column 2 so that when the user selects a "1" in the Data1 cell, the cell adjacent to it in Column 2 autopopulates to "Yes". Then if they select a "2", the adjacent cell becomes "No", and if they select a "3", the adjacent cell is "Unknown". Then, I want to do the same thing for the Data2 cell and its adjacent cell in Column 2.

Here is the expression that I've tried using for the first row (it doesn't work). (The second row in Column 2 [next to Data2] has the same formula, except Data1 is replaced with Data2.)

"No"
elseif (Data1 = 3) then

Actually, we are a small firm, we gave development project of a small app to a software vendor, the app supposed to work for desktops and tablets/mobile devices. We assumed our app will be build based on JavaScript

But, the vendor said they will build our app based on HTML5

Is there a way to contain an expanding table so that it does NOT overflow?

I have a table within a positioned subform and if there are more rows in the table than space in the subform, the data overflows past the boundaries of the subform. I want the data to be cut off at the boundary, such as how you can select for a field to "Limit Length to Visible Area" so that the text in the field doesn't go past the field size. I don't even want it to flow to another page, just cut it off so that it doesn't print over other fields that are below the subform on the page. Anyone know how to do this?

Convert dynamic pdf form to static pdf form

Is there a way to programatically convert dynamic pdf form to static pdf form?

My scenarios is our forms are dynamic pdf forms which have growing fields and dynamically added subforms. Once the user filled in the forms, the pdfs need to be converted to static pdf forms to be further processed by a 3rd party.

Scripting for specific cell border (top, bottom, left, right)?

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to script for specific borders of a cell (and/or field in a cell) in a table.

So for example, for a given cell, is it possible to set the top and bottom borders to be invisible depending on a value, expression etc?

In the example form above, I am trying to get it so that the the cells under the department names do not have top or bottom borders.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

1 - I have form created in LiveCycle 8.1.2 and created a button to e-mail the customer returns filled with information, I did some testing on reads acrobat 8, 9, X, X1 for shipping but does not work. Only sends the Acrobat Pro.

2 - When sending Acrobat Pro in the body of the e-mail attached with default name. Someone has javaScript to name a field of the form.

Can someone help

Hide and Show Subforms not hidden

Good Morning,

It's been months since I've worked in LiveCycle, so I know that I'm missing something simple on this form.

In LiveCycle Designer ES4 I have a form with check boxes that trigger subforms to appear when checked.

I used Action Builder to to create these simple rules

Condition: "When check box CopyMachine is clicked" (Check box name)

Result: "Set Visibility of CopyMachineChoice to visible" (Subform name)

However on the PDF all the subforms are appearing.

What am I forgetting?

And do I need to create a separate event for the possibility of the User clicking, then unclicking a check box?

Hello all,

I am new at designing forms in PDF style so please bare with me if this is an ignorant question. I am very fluent in creating documents and workbooks in excel and have basically used that in the past. I am now trying to teach myself how to create PDF documents. I have done some research and can not find how to enter formulas into either the text boxes or numeric boxes that i add to a document when i create one. For instance i would like for one box to add the amount entered into other boxes so that the document will do the math for me...is this possible?

Changing Global Variables using Javascript

Hi,

I have a project where I need to have lots of signature fields on a single form. I don't want to use a signatureField because this will increase the file size every time a signatureField is signed. Also client does not want digital signatures.

I set up three user variables (for both usernames and passwords), using Form/Properties/Variables.

I then set up a dialogue box on the click event of a button, which requests the username and password. If these match the global variables, then the associated textField is populated with the user's credentials. I got this to work OK.

The problems stated when I gave the user the ability to change their password. This would be an important, as the form would not need to come back to me to hardwire in the new password.

One of the global variables is "Pass1".The following script changed the value of the variable, but would not hold the change when the form was reopened:

Pass1.value = AHSC02.strnewP;

".value" shouldn't work, but it did???

So I tried different versions of ".rawValue", but with no sucess:

Pass1.rawValue = AHSC02.strnewP;

form1.Pass1.rawValue = AHSC02.strnewP;

form1.variables.Pass1.rawValue = AHSC02.strnewP;

Using ".rawValue" wouldn't change the password variable at all, even in the same session.

I would be very grateful if anyone had an idea as to how to change the global variable using Javascript, which will hold when the file is saved and reopened.

".value" works within the session, but doesn't hold the value on reopenning.

I am attaching a sample form, with three signing buttons/fields.

Username1 = Niall O'Donovan Password = nod

Username2 = Marianne Barry Password = mb

I have initially set up the "Niall O'Donovan" account with .rawValue and the "Marianne Barry" account with .value scripting.

I am wondering if this is considered a security issue by Adobe and therefore we are restricted from changing global variables using Javascript???

browser compatibility issue

I'm trying to integrate a very simple live form made with DESIGNER ES3,in my joomla 3.2 site.

The problem is the form is well showed only by internet explorer.

With Firefox and chrome i get the following error message:

* Please wait...

viewer may not be able to display this type of document.

You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows®, Mac, or Linux® by

Of course i've tried to update the reader plugin in every browser,sent to other people to check whit 'em.

But nothing...same result

I got the whole cs6 installed,adobe acrobat XI,adobe reader XI,and livecycle designer ES3 and all the browsers i used for the test are up to date

I haven't found on the net other user that have the same compatibility issue,it seems weird.

I just save the form as a dinamyc pdf and then link it whit a classic anchor in a joomla's article.

There's something i can do,to improve the compatibility of this kind of document?

Problems downloading free trial of LiveCycle Designer

I'm an educator and I want to download the free trial version to try. I filled out the online form, clicked "agree" where designated, and it keeps sending me back to the online form. How do I get to the download?

Calculating times past midnight

Hello All,

I am working on a timesheet for employees. It has 4 time fields (amIN, amOUT, pmIN, pmOUT) to allow for a lunch break. I have a script that calculates well for normal business hours. BUT, if the work shift goes past midnight, then it does not calculate correctly.

Here is what I have in FormCalc in a calculate event:

Ich habe im LifeCycleDesigner ein Formular zum Ausfüllen erstellt und einen E-Mail-Senden-Button rein getan.

Dies funktioniert für die Nutzer aber nicht ?

Weiss jemand warum - die Einstellungen sind alle korrekt und auf meinem PC funktioniert der Button auch.

In LIVECYCLE DESIGNER how do I code a submit button to only submit one page of a multipage PDF

I have a multipage PDF I've designed in Livecycle and have print and submit
buttons on each unique form in the document. I am able to create code (which
I've copied from someplace) that allows only one page to print but when I click
the submit button it wants to submit the entire document. PS - I created
the Submit from the blank button and have it set to submit PDF not XML.

I have the following predicate:

which searches an XML structure similar to the following:

This works fine in retrieving all of the records under the TopMerchants node, however what I really want is to be able to bring back records that have a specific country but I am not sure how this is done in the predicate, can anyone shed any light as to how you would achieve this??

I am trying to create a calculation PDF form. This form is doing several calculation. I need to plot/draw/create pie chart based on the data entered on form.

Is this is possibile using Adobe LiveCycle Designer?

Form Automatic Numbering

Is it possible with a LiveCycle form that is not connected to a database, to automatically have a unique sequential form number populate a textfield when the form is opened? This would be the number that identifies that version of the form.

Hello!

I have this form on which I need to place a sequence number for control reasons.
How can I create this field?

As PDFs can't write or read txt files, let alone over networks, I suppose I must call a webservice to read the sequence number somewhere, increment it and retrieve this number to be filled in a field in the form, correct?

Possible?

Converting forms from PureEdge to Adobe XFA/PDF.

We are trying to convert a series of eforms from PureEdge (xfdl) to Adobe XFA/PDF eforms.

Does anyone know if there are any tools, utilities and/or plugins that could be useful to me?

My searches have come up empty so I think that I may have to design each form from scratch. Has anyone else worked on a similar conversion?

Present final report at the end of the form.

We are working on a performance evaluation form.

There´s a part of it where we specify performance factors, the qualification is from 1 to 5. If the qualification is between 1 & 2.9, it needs a developement plan.

I would need two things, first if the value entered is between 1 % 2.9, the background color to turn red. But at the end of the form get "a report" with all the performance factors that are between that qualification rate, so the evaluator makes a plan for it.

I´m using LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2
