Saving Fillable Form as non-fillable PDF

I need some help with LiveCycle.

I've created a form that will be sent to several people to fill out. Once they fill it out, they will need to save the form as a non-fillable file (normal PDF?) and send on to others to be read-only. The form will not come back to me.

I cannot figure out how to enable the form to be saved as a normal, non-changeable PDF.

Also, the only option seems to be that the form is returned to me. I don't want that, either.

Are There Expandable Text Fields?

Okay, am new to Acrobat and LiveCycle. I have gone through about 9 hours of videos and still can not find an answer to what I know I should be able to do. Is there a way on a form to create a text field which has the ability to expand its size versus creating a scroll bar so when you print the form it is not chopped off and missing? This is a 2 page form so a text box has the possibiltiy it could split between 2 pages.

Some users are reporting seeing this error message when they try to open specific PDF forms I've created in alternative PDF viewers.

The forms do work on PCs using Firefox and Internet Explorer.

They do not work on Mac using Safari, Chrome or Fireforx.

What might help rectify this problem? If I were to change the compatibility settings to accepting Legacy (Acrobat 6) as the rendering engine (Form Properties > Compatibility) and Acrobat and Adobe Reader 8.0 as the Target Version (Form Properties > Defaults) would that work?

Please advise as to how best to fix this and make our forms accessible to all.

Using a MAC to fill out PC Created PDF forms creating problems

We have created a number of forms using LiveCycle to be filled out by clients. They include submit buttons that send the form back as a PDF (rather than a data file). The forms were then opened in Acrobat 8 Professional and usage rights enabled to allow the clients to save a copy of the completed form.

They work great...unless the client is using a MAC. We have encountered the following problems with MAC filled forms:

1) client entered data is present but only visible when the field is clicked on

2) the Print and Submit by E-mail buttons do not work for MAC users

3) the tabbing order is inconsistent

Any ideas of ways we can make our forms more compatible for MAC users??

LiveCycle Newbie: Validate Before Printing Form

I have a form created in Adobe Acrobat Pro that I have brought into LiveCycle to add print and emails buttons to. However, I need a specific functionality added to the standard "Print" button. It is a legal form that has required fields and the client needs to fill in all the required fields on the form BEFORE printing and signing it. We have had problems in the past with clients not filling in all the required fields before sending it back to them. So, I need to somehow make the print button check to make sure all the required fields are filled in and send a warning message and/or prevent printing if all the required fields are not filled in. Is there a way to do this?

I am using LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 and I am VERY new to this program so the simpler the solution the better.

Combining XML and PDF Files

Hi, I have a form created in Adobe LiveCycle, and I need to be able to take this form and merge it with some PDF forms. When I go try to "Combine Files into PDF" It says the XML form cannot be combine. Is there a way around this? Using the "Create a Portfolio" is not an option.

customizing email body on email submit button

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to modify what the body of the email will look like once the user has pressed an email submit button. In Livecycle designer, I clicked on the button and viewed the xml source. I scrolled down to the following line:

Then changed it to:

When I tested the button, the text "?body=new body" was appended to the subject line instead of being included in the body itself.

I wondered if anyone could tell lme where I'm going wrong?

How to Autosum in Adobe LiveCycle

I have a form that I made up in Adobe Pro 9. However, I needed to do some stuff to it that only livecycle would allow me to do. Long story short it is now in livecycle. Here is my problem, in adobe acrobat I could easily set auto sum for fields that I wanted to calculate. However I cannot figure out how to do this in livecycle. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I want to create a form that an adobe reader user can open and save a copy as a pdf with the data in the form. I know that requires reader extensions - what i can't seem to figure out is if I already have this included and how to do it. I have LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 - which is the download I end up at when searching LC with reader extensions.

Does anyone have instructions on how to do this or know whether that functionality is available in the version I'm running?

new instance problem

hello,

I have a ES4 form that I am working. I have added a row above a hidden table. This row has a button to open "show" a hidden table.

When clicked the table expands. the table has many cells. One cell has buttons to add new instance or hide the table itself. The add new instance upon click is not functioning. This is what breaks.

The hide table works fine.

If I try the same thing but with a table that is not originally hidden then it works fine. New instances occur. I need to reduce clutter on my form so it would benefit me to have it initially be hidden but then the add new instance has to work.

I use the action builder to add the javascript.

any advice?

Hola, he creado un pdf que contiene un formulario.

Este documento de pdf tiene todos los permisos habilitados.

El problema es el siguiente:

- Al abrirlo con el reader me deja escribir pero no me deja guardar este documento con los datos introducidos.

- He descargado la aplicación trial del liveCycle design y aun guardandolo con esta herramienta sigo sin poder guardar la información de dicho documento.

Mi pregunta:

- ¿Que es lo que hago mal?

- ¿Ya que si yo genero un documento con todos los permisos porque no puedo guardarlo?

- ¿Y lo que es mejor, teniendo un documento con formularios que se puede guardar, si lo abro con esta herramienta le quita los permisos y poisteriormente ya no puedo guardar ese documento con los datos del formulario ?

PDF forms populating Access DB and vice/versa

I have a PDF from that I published to Acrobat.com There are fields to be filled out. Problems:

1. How can I set the fields to populate into an existing MS Access DB once submitted results back to me?

2. How can the form populate upon a certain chouice criteria?

Scenerio: Form is a log file for patients seen, including name, date, room#, diagnosis codes, testing, medications, f/u. The same fields exist in MS Access but distributed among 3 tables (linked). In the PDF form I have created a New Data Connection (OLEDB), Connection string (Provider for ODBC drivers), In the Data View I see my fields from access - so for each input Binding it points to the field (i.e.: for patient name - $record.Patient.Last_Name).

But here is the rub:

1. When the first patient filed is filled, all subsequent patient names are filled with same name (and they keep just replaceing the other inputs).

2. I cannot seem to create a date calender, or have the current date default (taken from the computer time stamp).

3. I can not seem to calculate the follow/up (it's 4 weeks) from the input of the date.

4. When selecting a facility, how do I populate the fields with current patient names and previous Diagnosis (if at all possible).

5. When I created the data connection, the fill in spaces become obscured and my drop down box for facility choice stops working.

I know this is big, but any advice and help is greatly appreciated in advance. I have also attached the PDF form for analysis. Please not that there are two, one is the original prior to Life Cycle modification and the other is with the DB linking attempt.

Import data from Excel into PDF Forms created in LiveCycle

Hi there

I have a PDF form that I have created in Adobe LiveCycle Designer.

I would like to now import data from Microsoft Excel so that it generates multiple PDF files.

For example, my PDF Form has 3 fields, First Name, Last Name and UserID. But we have 1000 users and we have them all stored in an excel file with the same fields as above. How can import all that data so that it generates 1000 PDF files, each with the unique pieces of data (line by line)

Hi All,

I have a designed a Adobe form (Elements Read only - Print Form) having different content areas(on Master page) with each having a Items table (DATA) that could flow to several pages. The items table(DATA) i am using is same in both the content areas apart form the fact that in First content area ( I named it "Main" in form) there are 4 fields in table and in second content area("Perforated area") there are 6 fields from same table, so the number of entries in the tables are same with same content.

So there are two areas and two tables : 1st : Main area ( Main area : items table ) : For Office use only

2nd : Perforated area ( Perforated area : items table ) : Customer copy

I am using Paper type : Letter format and the Main area is up to the 190 MM from the Top of the pageand the Perforated area starts from 200 mm from the top of page to the end of page.

My requirement is such that i want to show the data of both these tables in both the content areas on each page even if the content flow to next page.

For ex : If there are 15 records in Items table and according to length of content area it can accommodate only 12 entries so the 3 entries would flow to the next page in the same content area, so on page 1, Main area (Main area : items table) : should have 12 entries and on same page Perforated area (Perforated area : items table) should also have 12 entries; also on page 2 Main area (Main area : items table) : should have remaining 3 entries and on same page Perforated area (Perforated area : items table) should also have remaining 3 entries.

So here if the Table content are less and the page1 is able to accommodate all the entries both the tables and areas are having entries which is fine.

The problem arise when there are entries that flows across multiple pages. As whenever the Main area ( Main area : items table ) which is a flowable content has large entries it moves to next page (because of automatic page break) and the Perforated area : Perforated table has no entry because of break(page break) on page 1 due to Main area : items table, So Unless the first table stops executing the automatic page break the second table(perforated table in perforated area ) doesn't start printing. Here I want the page break to be executed simultaneously for both tables or something like after processing perforated table on each page. So that i get the records in both the tables on each page.

Can somebody offers some help on this? I am stuck with this and not able to move forward.

In one machine with Adobe Reader 9.4.0, I can view it in Chrome.

In other machines with Adobe Reader 9.4.1 and Adobe Reader X I cannot view it in Chrome.

I have a form that I would like to have the employees use a drop down box that already exists on the form with names and email addresses and use those names in the to field of an email submit button. Also, I do have a static cc: address in teh cc field and for the subject of the email to use an existing field such as the name field as the subject of the email and attach the form to it.

Move table rows up and down

Hi,

I am creating a dynamic table that will, depending on how many options are chosen, have Row1[0], Row1[1], Row1[2], etc. When a row is created I would like to put a button on the row to allow users to move the row up or down in the table order. I have been trying to adapt a bit of JavaScript from the help files which moved a subform but I have had no luck. The JavaScript was based on the index but my index kept turning out to be 0 no matter how many rows I put in. I feel that I am missing something simple about how to capture the index number of a particular row.

Does anyone have any ideas or do I have to explain myself better? Or, should I just give up on the idea?!?!?!!!

We have created a number of forms in LiveCycle. The submit button returns the form as a PDF and usage rights are enabled. They have been working well for a couple of years. We did encounter the issue of forms being returned blank when completed using a MAC in the past, but that problem was solved with a provided script.

Just recently another form was received blank, however in this case, the recipient was not using a MAC to complete the form. The form looks fine at their end and they have tried twice to submit the form with the same result. Any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

How do you make a text field read only after it is saved and distibuted?

LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2

This JavaScript code on the exit event:

textField1.access = "readOnly";

This works after the user loses focus on the field, however after it is saved and distributed, that field is no longer "read-only".

I need to have staff insert information into a text field and then distribute it out to customers, and those fields have to be protected.

How do you do this?

Trying to divide two numeric fields and have answer in third num field

Ok I am doing something wrong and can't figure it out. I am using the below code inside the psf field of my form to divide two different numeric fields and for the life of me I can't figure out why it isn't working. I'm assuming it is something simple. I have uploaded the form. Please take a look at the form and le me know where I am off. It almost has to be something simple and something I'm just not seeing

If radio button is selected then X field is required code

I am trying to figure out how to code a field to become required when a user selects a radio button or something from a drop down list. what I am trying to do really is figure out how I can setup a variable inside the required syntax and figure out where the required syntax actually is inside say a radio button as currently I can't find it. I could setup the function to be called when the radio button is selected and from there the function can change it to required or not required depending on selection. I hope this makes sense and thank you in advance for the help.

xfa.resolveNode question

I have a function that takes 2 arguments, the first is a XFAObject and it doesn't really matter what the second one is. I use the first parameter to set a variable inside a call to xfa.resolveNode(): xfa.resolveNode(x). My variable is a concatination of the parameter and the instanceIndex all in between single quotes of that parameter: x = String.concat("'", param1, "[", param1.instanceIndex, "]'");

When put together it looks like this:

function MyFunction(param1, param2) {

var j = param1.instanceIndex;

var x = String.concat("'", param1, "[", j, "]'");

xfa.resolveNode(x).presence = "visible";

}

Could someone tell me why this isn't working? I checked the values of all my variables and they were all correct, but when it doens't seem to work in the xfa.resolveNode();

User Created Dynamic Table

I have a form and for example there are 4 goal tables on this form. Each table has questions that the user, using the fillable form, answers. Is there a way to creat this livecycle form with 3 goals on it and a way for the user to ADD a 4th goal if they need it? I know how to make the form flowable and dynamic, but how would i allow the user of the form, in Adobe Reader to click on a button to add a new TABLE (not just a new row). Is this possible?

Submitting PDF Form to SharePoint 2010 Library

I've inherited a simple PDF form created with LiveCycle ES2. We'd like to be able to let users Submit the result of the form in a PDF format, to a SharePoint 2010 Library using a Submit button. I've added a button and configured the Control Type to Submit. I've added a SharePoint library to the Submit to URL: field and changed to Submit to PDF. Now when I click the button, it opens the SharePoint library but nothing is there. I'm sure there's more I need to do to get this working. Do I need to install the server-side stuff for LiveCycle on the SharePoint server?

Firstly, I'm very new to using LiveCycle & only slightly more experienced with Acrobat, so I'm unsure about the terminology. Feel fre to correct me on that, even if you don’t have a solution to my main question.

I have an existing interactive (it has fillable text fields, check boxes, etc) pdf form which I want to change so that the text fields expand when full, going across page breaks.

I know it’s possible - I've seen this example from Assuredynamics & when I open it in LiveCycle I can see the settings used, but when I open my form, some of the settings are greyed out.

Object palette>field tab: ‘keep with next’ & ‘allow page breaks within content’ are both greyed out - the second of those is checked in the Assuredynamics & seems like it would be very relevant to what I want to do.

Layout palette>size & position>Y> ‘expand to fit’ isn’t checked in mine but is in the Assuredynamics file. I’ve tried checking it in mine but it didn’t seem to un-grey-out the other settings.

I'm not even sure exactly what questions I need to ask here, so any comments or suggestions on how to resolve this, without having to totally create the form anew, would be much appreciated!

Auto fill same fields in multiple different pdf forms?

I wish to enter information such as project name, company name, date, etc. into a single data sheet. Then I need to autofill the same two or three fields across multiple separate pdf form files. In this case I have approximately separate files to autofill. The forms are all different however, they have the same two or three fields. Any ideas?

I have been searching the internet for ideas or methods and haven't found a single solution yet.

XDP convert to PDF

I setup a process that takes a document variable (XDP) and then runs it through renderPDFForm and produces an output document variable (PDF). When I invoke this from within WorkBench it works fine. However, when I try and hit via JAVA I get the following error on the same input XDP.

Reducing the file size of an XML Form

We have created and launched a number of PDF Forms (created in LiveCycle) for our contacts to download, complete electronically, and email or fax back to us. The problem we are running into is that our email client allows us to only receive files that are 10 MB and smaller. We are finding that many of our PDF Forms that end-users are completing online cannot be emailed back to us because the file size is too large....which creates a problem.

How do we troubleshoot this? We cannot seem to optimize in Acrobat because we receive an error message that says, "This PDF contains an Adobe XML form. Such PDFs cannot be optimized."

How to design a multi language form?

I try to find the best solution on this forum and on web with no success.

What is the best way to design a multi-language form with LiveCycle? I would like to refresh the complete form according to a dropdown list with language inside and change all captions of the form, and maybe little more.

I can do it with a ddl and script on event "change" that replace all captions inside the form.

is there a better way to do it? Can i separe the form itself and the language strings (i.e. XML file) ? is there any working example?

I'm sure the answer to this question is simple, but being new to formcalc (and scripting in general) I am having problems with it.

The details:

I have a dynamic form in livecycle. The two fields I am having problems with currently are a drop down list, and a text box (not field) associated with it. What is listed in the text box is dependant upon the choice from the dropdown list. So far everything is, functionally, working. I have the formcalc scripting event set to change on the dropdown list with the following script

"Office 1" being the dropdown selection

OfficeAddress1 being the name of the text field

The fake address being the address, seperated by carriage return symbols (#xD) to indicate where I want it to jump to the next line.

The script is working fine except that the #xD symbols are showing up on the final form. How do I prevent this?

Deleting borders around text field

I am creating a form in LiveCycle by importing an image and adding text fields to it. The text fields drop in with borders around them. How do I delete the borders? In the border window it says that borders are not allowed when working with an imported image.

Anyone have a clue? I've seen this before; it's completely random. We can render a form on our dev system fine, and then try the same .xdp on our prod server with the same data and have this error pop up. The same form will work fine 99% of the time; this happens only occasionally.

Displaying and choosing records in form

I have my livecycle form, and my access database.

I can get the livecycle form to display records, and have buttons to navigate through them. How do I 'pick' a record to display permanently so I can then send the form. Currently, when I send the form to myself, the very first record is the only one that displays unless I change the record again. When I send the form, I want the record that I choose to display and NOT have the option to change.

Any ideas?

I have created a dynamic PDF form with expandable fields etc. As this is to be accessible for customers to completed, how can they save a completed copy on their own PC?

I tried it myself and I receive an error msg stating that I can only save a Blank Copy of this Form: Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a blank copy of this form.

How can I create a dynamic form (with expandable fields/flowable layout etc) that allows the applicant to not only complete the form but also, to save a completed copy?

Calling SAP WebServices always requires login

I have build several web services in SAP ECC, I have tested these web services from a test tool soapUI

I have build the forms in SAP using xfa javascript to make web service calls. I have created a data connection and I execute the action

from the connectionset. When testing the form, the call from Adobe to the SAP Web Services is executed,

but before receiving feedback from the sap wabservice, Adobe always comes up

with a pop up titled "Windows Security" requiring SAP login username and password. Even when cancel/close (without capturing any details)

the login pop-up, I still get the correct response from the SAP web service. So the web services call is successfull, but the pop-up keeps

coming up. How does one permanently suppress the login pop-up from adobe for webservices/data connection that require no authentication.

Hi,

I know this may not be a proper question in this forum, but it is a PDF form related issue. I need some help in solving my problem in the following scenario:

I have a web app processing PDF files. I have PDF fillable forms generated by Lifecycle. User downloads it from my web app, fills out it and sends it back via my web app (upload). I need to parse the form to XML file, then my existing web service will process XML files and save it to database. Previous we used an Email Submit Button and user sent us the XML by email so there was no issue, but now the user just sends us PDF file.

So I am looking for a way to get an XML file from PDF file in .NET (C#), just like Email Submit does. First I need know what is the best way to achieve it. Then I need some sample code for it.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Error OCCURRED: ALC-PDG-080-023-Acrobat_PATH environment variable either not set or is invalid. Please set this variable to point to Acrobat.exe in Acrobat version 10. Acrobat_PATH should be set to

<Acrobat_Home>\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe. Here <Acrobat_Home> is the parent folder where the Acrobat is installed.

I have configured the Path variable as

Enabling Usage Rights In A Form Created In Older LC, But Updated In Newer Version of LC

Has anyone run into the situation where updates have been made in a form that was originally created in an older version of LC with a newer version not enabling the usage rights for Reader? I have a form that I created that was done in an older version, and I recently needed to make updates to it, and I now have Adobe Pro X. Anyone who has Adobe Standard or higher can access the form and fill it out, but if someone only has Reader, they really cannot do anything with it. It has created a problem in my office. Once we figured out what was going on, I had to find someone with Adobe Pro 8 to pull up the form and enable the usage rights in Reader. I'm really hoping it is that I am missing something, but I don't know.

Cancel saving from Presave event in case validation fails

I am checking some custom validation on my pdf form. If they fails then I don't want user to allow saving of form.

I tried following code on

ArrayOfDeclarationData::preSave - (JavaScript, client)

but I have noticed that event is not getting cancelled and user is still able to save form. Even xfa.event.cancelAction is always false even after setting it to true.

Please help me on this issue as I have to only allow user to save user from menu / (ctrl + s) if validation passes.

Date/Time driving me nuts. How to set Time automatically?

I tried this in Acrobat Pro first, but I dont know Javascript and so couldn't modify the "Call Date" script to get the Time instead.

Fortunately, I also have Livecycle and everything looked so simple BUT it's not working.

Let me explain what I'm trying to do. My boss asked me to develop a log entry form in where after the user types in an entry and leaves the field then the time of the entry is automatically logged. This field should be unalterable.

I set up a Text Field (to act as the log entry form field). I then set up a Date/Time field. I went to Binding and changed it to Time. I changed the Value to Read Only, and then the Pattern to h:MM A.

Set up the action- when user exits the text field, the Date/Time field value is inserted automatically.

This works beautifully EXCEPT I only get the DATE! I've tried Protected, Read Only (calculated) etc. This requires a script to be called.... the very thing I hoped to avoid since I can't code. RunTime worked somewhat-- but in the PDF itself, when the user exits the text field, the date AND time shows up, but if that field is clicked, the time is updated. I don't want it updated. My boss wants to see the time that the log entry was completed so it can't be changed by the user or updated.

I hope I'm clear as to what I need. Anybody can help? Hope so!

Simple email validation in forms

Hello All,

I would like to do a simple email validation, the built in email validation pattern(text{OOOOOOOO'@example.com'} ) is not really useful.

What is the best to validate an email in the form which was built using livecycle designer.

Is there any other pattern I can use?

My requirement is simple, the email should contain ‘@’ and a dot, something like ( xxx@xxx.xxx)
