Blog Comments have been disabled but spam comments are still being made?

With the increased number of spam comments on my blogs i was forced to disable the comments but every day i still have a comments list full of spam links to spam websites and comments from SEO companied looking for business.

I have captcha installed also but this has not stopped it.

Form Module embedded does not update when web-form is updated

I have issues where I create a form with the web-form tool, go to a page and embed the form as a module, everything works as described. Then, after several days, I need to add/change/delete a field. I go to the web-form tool, make my changes and update. The embedded module doesn't reflect the changes to the form. So far the only way I can get this to work is to copy the form, make changes on the new form, and then delete the previous embed module code and embed the new (copied) form. This isn't the way that BC says the embed form module is suppose to work. What is the issue?

Tooltip widget bug? Shows up correctly in Muse preview, distorted content on business catalyst.

This is a cross question from Adobe Muse Bugs, as it also affects business catalyst.

I have 3 panels on my tooltip.

3 different descriptions for each one.

Preview mode shows up accurately on what I have designed, but when uploaded to business catalyst, only the distorted description from the first tooltip panel shows up.

The descriptions are really just rasterised text, with a translucent rectangle behind it.

This issue is not observed when viewing exported html file. Browser used to test is Google Chrome

What is the problem here? The widget? Muse? Business Catalyst? Chrome? And how do I fix it?

We are getting a 503 error when trying to access our website.

We haven't received a maintenance notification and I can't find anything in the status reports indicating their are access issues.

Does anybody have a status update?

I have used {tag_producttaxtotal} in an Invoice template at the end of a product line. It returns the total tax for multiple quantities of a product but remains blank for single quantities. If I use {tag_producttaxamount} it only returns the tax assigned to the individual product, it doesn't multiply it if multiple quantities are purchased. Please help.

Shipping Error

I have a customer who just contacted me to say she has someone trying to purchase from their Business Catalyst powered E-Commerce site but cannot complete purchase because of an error when she arrives at the shipping options. She does not know what the error code was or what exactly it said so that is actually all of the information I have! I can find no record of the purchase in the dashboard (I assume because of the error the sale is not completed) and can't find anyone else who has had an error at this point.

Has anyone had experience with errors during purchases and can point me towards a list of known issues that I can use as a guide here? I'm definitely at a loss with this small amount of info so any help would be appreciated!

I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that Business Catalyst is written by the programmers, for the programmers, to be primarily used by the BC programmers to set up the initial web sites for end users and once everything is customized, the end user /site owner can then update product pages and other content, without knowing any code. IMHO, it was not written for Web designers who know how to build static web sites, but who also need added functionality.

Moreover, I thought the propose of BC was to build a professional looking and properly performing interactive web sites without knowing any coding. Even with knowing HTML, CSS, and some Javascript, it is one confusing mess, that does not perform as advertised, IN MY OPINION. You not only have to thoroughly understand how BC does things, and I seriously doubt that a custom site could be effectively built without knowing programming, or at least a working knowledge of Javascript, which most web designers have not mastered. Javascript is NOT easy, but neither is Business Catalyst.

Even the sample starter sites do not function smoothly, and the BC Manage site interface is NOT intuitive, so unless you want a web site that basically looks and functions just like one of the templates, you're out of luck. Maybe someone on this forum can explain how, and why, my header logo got 'replaced' with the words, "No items found"? All I did was attempt to set up a module form and then tested it. Next I was unable to log into the site with any accounts that I had set up as a User and/or member for testing purposes, which worked just fine before then.

I have just spent the better part of the last two-three week trying to figure out how to use Business Catalyst and slightly modify one of the provided BC sites to meet my needs. No such luck. I am a long time Adobe customer and have spent thousands of dollars on Adobe Software over the last ten plus years, but BC is a LOOSER. I'm NOT a stupid person, and have designed some nice responsive HTML5 web sites, but Business Catalyst has thrown me for a loop, even though I have tried diligently to figure out how all the pieces fit and work together, to little avail.

Why doesn't Adobe provide some programming help (for a reasonable programming fee) instead of forcing us to go with the independent BC programmers/site designers who do know how to make it work, but they charge the big bucks to do so? I had one BC site designer tell me that web sites cost $10,000 - $15,000. (and that was for a BC site) which I thought was quite unreasonable until you consider how few people truly know how to use BC well enough to customize a web site, and then you have to need a site very similar to the one already created. There in an inherent lack of simple functionality, and customization, for sites that are not retail product sites.

Frankly, I am very disappointed, frustrated, and now looking for a programmer to build a straightforward interactive site for my modest needs. Who cares about all those reports if you can't get the site to function properly, and are unable to troubleshoot the problems when everything is hidden in content holders with no access, and no list of all the modules that are even being used on the site I was last trying to modify. The Announcement module was not to be found anywhere, except in the code that somehow managed to switch out the site logo in the header with search results. Doubt if I could duplicate the problem if I tried.

BC is too complex on the backend, and doesn't make much common sense on the front management end. It tries to be all things to all retail selling sites, but all those functions, bells & whistles aren't much good if a user can't get the site off the ground.

At the very least, give us access to the all the modules uses on the sample sites (not al are available within the site management), the module names, and a brief description of what they do and how to access them when they are nowhere found in the module templates directory. And would someone PLEASE write some decent directions for using the management interface, instead of glibly showing how easy it is to do this or that, without any coding, but also without any real walk-throughs of exactly how to do something specific.

My apology to EVERYONE on this forum for my venting and rant out of sheer frustration ( and deadlines that are not being met) and I do NOT fault the forum moderator for NOT POSTING my thoughts, but I do hope this message, written in utter frustration, is FORWARDED to someone at Adobe who needs to know the truth of the matter regarding Business Catalyst, from at least my own VERY BAD USER EXPERIENCE, thus far, spent trying to get results creating a simple interactive web site using Business Catalyst.

I'm guessing some of you are frustrated and struggling as well. I wish you the best and every success in using Business Catalyst. Typically I am patient, and will keep on trying... but only to a point, at which it's time for me to move on to plan C, because the real 'help' I need is with all the little stuff that doesn't work and tutorials are definitely lacking unless you have that same problem or are trying to duplicate what is being explained - I've tried BG Gurus videos, Lynda.com training, and other Youtube BC resources.

Flash causing computer to freeze every couple of minutes?

Hi, I hope someone can help me figure out why all of a sudden my computer is freezing up like this.

The problem started yesterday night while watching some YOUTUBE videos and I got frustrated so I went off to bed. Today I tried it and sure enough, the videos freeze. Went through a couple of forums that suggested the following:

Uncheck accelerate hardware on youtube settings. Did this and nothing changed. Re-checked it, same.

Uninstalled Flash and re-installed Flash. Same problem.

Looked at my event viewer, and an error came up from Adobe Air, so I went to update that since it was outdated. This seemed to exacerbate the problem.

I went to check if all of my drivers are up to date, they are.

I tried what this forum suggested - starting Firefox in safe mode, that didn't help, I even tried creating a new user on Windows and it still freezes, but for a shorter period of time. On the YouTube main page on top it tells me my Flash Version is outdated, but it IS up to date, I downloaded it twice in fact.....? Strange...

I have been switching between Firefox and Internet Explorer to see if it was a browser issue, and it is not.

Campaigns - Importing Subscribers - Are the BC UX team mad?

You have 1000 names in a CSV file.
You import it into a new, empty Mailing List.

The resulting list has 900 members.

You have no way of finding out which 100 names didn't import, for what reason, and addressing the issue - other than manually spending 3 hours cross-referencing both lists on the screen.
How is this in ANY way acceptable in the year 2014?

Increase in SPAM web form submissions

Hi,

I'm noticing a trend of increased SPAM web form submissions across most of our BC sites. This has got particularly bad in the past week or so. All SPAM submissions follow a very similar theme. The text is complete 'gobbledygook' basically! The forms being used don't have any description fields where long descriptions or links can be entered so I struggle to see why this is happening.

What I want to know is:

- is this something other BC partners are noticing, particularly recently

- are your SPAM submissions similar to what I have shown below

- what can we do to reduce these other than using CAPTCHA on all forms?

- we exclusively use BC but I would be interested to know if the BC platform is particularly bad for SPAM submissions or is this something all sites are suffering from nowadays?

- any other light you could shed on this issue or advice you could impart would be much appreciated

Chrome warns that there´s insecure content in my online store

Hello,

When I access my own registration/buy page on Chrome it shows me the warning that there is insecure content in the page. Upon checking the page with the javascript console it shows me this:

EU Cookie Law compliance

Hi.

I've searched the forums and had a chat with live support; it doesn't appear as if Business Catalyst has done anything about the EU Cookie Law which will become enforcable from 26th May 2012.

The law came into existence on 26th May 2011, but because of its potentially severe consequences and horrified reaction from the internet community, the ICO added 1 years grace period for businesses to become compliant.

Well, its not gone away as we hoped and soon the powers that be will start to make their move.

I see on my Business Catalyst website 5 cookies are created, but there isn't a way to allow my visitors to consent to them being created. If I guide a visitor on how to delete these cookies, they are just going to be created again on their next visit.

A chat with live support concludes BC aren't offering any kind of solution which puts Business Calatyst site owners in a tricky legal position.

That said, most businesses and even major brands appear to be playing the waiting game. I haven't found a website yet, bar the ICO website, that doesn't create any cookies until you consent, as the law requires.

This includes major brands such as Adobe, The BBC and BT.

The BBC have updated their Privacy Policy quite extensively and I hope to god this approach becomes an acceptable measure.

BT have gone a step further and implemented a rather impressive solution where you get a modal pop-up regards cookie consent and a rather cool slider to indicate the type of cookies you are happy to receive.

Strictly speaking though it is still not fully compliant as they create cookies first and then ask you after the event if you are ok with it.

It's a topic I'm watching closely and would be interested in other BC users opinion or what you are doing with your business catalyst website to make it compliant with this (absurd) law.
